Join us for a tasting and food pairing with Dassai Sake, makers of some of the finest premium sake from Yamaguchi in the southernmost tip of Honshu, Japan’s main island. Known as ‘Daigingo Junmai,’ these artisanal, labor intensive sakes really showcase the brewmaster’s skill and are made with the highest quality Yamada Nishiki rice. Dassai mills the rice for their 50, 37 and finally their 23 sake, which uses rice milled to just 23% of its original size to create one of the most refined sakes in the world.

These sakes are light, complex and aromatic, so there’s a lot to explore here in terms of food pairing possibilities! We will lead a tasting of four of Dassai’s most well known sakes, paired with Western foods ranging from The Meat Hook’s lamb bacon, to cheese, mushrooms, fruit and more. You’ll have the chance to play with our selected food pairings to decide for yourself which foods best complement the sakes.

We’ll also be lucky to have some of the Sake Lees (the byproduct of fermentation) on hand to taste in a variety of ways. This delicacy is rarely tasted outside of Japan.

This is a fantastic event for the sake lover (or the sake skeptic.) Either way you’ll have plenty to taste, and plenty to talk about.

To reserve your spot, please pre-register online. Attendees must provide proof of legal drinking age for admission to the event.

This year The Joy of Sake moves to Pier 2 Terminal Hall, a brand-new event venue at Honolulu Harbor opposite Restaurant Row. New Yorkers eagerly embraced the new arrivals and sake imports into the city have grown by leaps and bounds ever since. Today it can be easier to find a restaurant with a great sake menu in New York than it is in Tokyo.

The Joy of Sake debuted in New York in 2004 and will be held this year at The Altman Building in Chelsea. This premier venue features 14-ft. ceilings, wood floors, ambient lighting and nearly 15,000 sq. ft of event space. The No. 1 Subway’s 18th Street station is no more than fifty yards from the building’s entrance.

This once-a-year event features the world’s finest sakes in peak condition and the best in traditional and contemporary Asian cuisine. Over 300 premium sakes will be available for tasting, along with appetizers by 14 of New York’s finest restaurants.

Tickets can be purchased here:
