Hi everyone, am having a bit of an unplanned creative hiatus, possibly due to things like the world cup and home renos, possibly due to weather, possibly due to having run out of things to shoot, or cake.

I shall return, don't fret.

Alfred Place: as wide as the sun

Alfred Place is typical of the locations that make Melbourne. It's an interesting blend of old and new today. Recent changes to the skyline along Bourke Street which could have plunged it into eternal darkness have turned out rather well. The demolition of the Eastern Arcade Building at 131 Bourke was sad, but I don't think it had ever been open during my time wandering the city. Its redevelopment into an apartment block was inevitable, and although I am no fan of the building, the design does allow for an elevated alley, perfectly aligned with Alfred Place, a small gap between the 131 Bourke towers allow the sun to make it's way to Alfred place, and the combination of light reflected off the sides of these new towers, adding to the light reflecting back down Alfred Place via 101 Collins Street means it is possibly brighter than ever for that hour or so a day when the north-south lanes get their daily does of sunshine.So, Thanks, to all involved, whether it was a progressive designer, or a design decision prompted by legislation, things seem to have gone well.
