On Australia Day, we cooked up sausages, onions, sweet pumpkin, potato.

Lamb chops and a kilo of prawns.

We had Joel’s grandma and a family friend over, and chatted outside around the barbeque. It was a really nice Australia Day.

It’s so simple. We didn’t follow a set recipe from a book, we just made it up as we went along.

Basic Recipe:

3 cups plain flour

Enough water to get the right consistency

2 level teaspoons of dry yeast (added to warm water, and let to grow)

1 teaspoon of salt to taste.

Mixed in our Cuisinart DLC-2011BCN Prep 11 Plus Food Processor (totally worth the investment, it’s a wonderful machine).

Then, roll the dough around with your hands, on a flat surface covered with flour. Make into a log shape and put into a loaf tin.
Cover with cling-wrap and let it sit in a warm place to prove (this lets the yeast work on the flour and make it rise).

Bake at 150c for 40 minutes

Tip: Add some ice cubes or some water to a tray or baking tin, and put it in with the bread. This will increase the humidity of your oven and improve your bread baking success.
