For two years Terri and Alex recorded the activities and events of Florida BMX racing. They visited 15 tracks taking 15,000 pictures to supplement 500 race reports. They met countless riders and parents, assisted in promoting the races and personally competed in over 100 races. They truly enjoyed being a part of this great community.

In January of 2013 the Race Report fell into financial difficulties which was followed by vehicle problems. They have made several attempts to reconnect with the BMX community, none of which has worked out. They continued to post informational updates for as long as they could but they are unable to keep up with the season. As of May 2013, the Race Report will stop posting BMX stories. Corsa Factory Team takes on the Dixieland Nationals

Chase Chevalier took 6th out of 28 riders

Three members of the Corsa Factory team made their way to Cobb County BMX in Powder Springs, Georgia for the 2013 Dixieland Nationals. While Kendra Stoddard and Chase Chevalier were hoping to pad their National records with a few more points, it was the third rider who had a story a tell.

Nick Cuppy (A-Pro) - It was Nick's first Pro race back after suffering a long term back injury that had kept him out of competition. "I decided pretty last minute to go and I'm glad I did. There were 26 fast pros consisting of A, AA, and Vet Pros. There were some big names Matt Pohlcamp, Jeff Upshaw, Mike Caldwell, Justin Riddell, Olijuwan Davis and several more. I got my first chance to see where I was against the other guys."

Nick has never held back on the track. He always gives 100% so testing the waters at such a big race required a lot of introspection. "All weekend I felt really strong down the First straight. On Saturday I got a 5, 3, 3 in my motos and unfortunately took a spill in the semi going over the triple into the first corner."

The crash would have dissuaded a less determined rider but Nick brushed himself off and dived right back into action. "I will keep progressing with my back and my training and I will definitely be up there in the mix towards the end of this 2013 national series."

Chase Chevalier (15X) - Another equally ambitious rider on this weekend was Chase Chevalier. In the past Chase has proven himself to be a pretty tough kid and in Georgia on Saturday he proved it again. "In the Junior Devo semi I was making a move from 5th to 4th and slid out in the last turn." Despite this crash Chase went on battle it out in the 15X class against 28 riders where he took 6th in the main. Chase put together a solid weekend and did so against the likes of riders like Cameron Moore and Justin Richmond.

Kendra Stoddard (17G) - Awesomeness is often measured not merely by where you place so much as who you place against. Kendra Stoddard faced many of the best female riders in the nation and got to see an accurate picture of her current performance ability. "In class I got 7th both days, I had at least the top 20 girls in the nation there. I now know what I need to work on and hit it hard for the next three months before my next national." However, all was not lost as Kendra got to have fun in the Mixed Open class, "In the Opens I got 1st place both days beating up on the boys."

Philips Family Benefit Race at Charlotte BMX

BMX rider Joel Philips (12 Cruiser/Intermediate) loves to race. He is a regular at the Charlotte BMX track who has been competing in the Florida Cup series but a recent house fire could jeopardize the rest of his season. Luckily the great people at the track have stepped up to organize a benefit to raise money for Joel's family in their time of need.

Your help is needed. Come by the track early this Sunday where Nationally Ranked rider & Peddler's team coach Matt Moberly will be giving a skills clinic (12-2pm) for $20. Half the proceeds will go to the Philips family. Then stay for the race to contribute even more to this worthy cause.

J&R Superstore says Farewell to Geof Ssengoba

Doug Stuart - March 29, 2013 - Following a great ten year run as one of J&R’s most loved staffers, Geoff Ssengoba punched the time clock one last time and rode off into the sunset to pursue the development of his own business as well as to focus more attention towards developing The Burg Cycling Complex here in St. Petersburg.

Having started racing BMX when he was sixteen years old, Geof is one of the better known veterans within the BMX Industry. During his racing career Geof won multiple state titles in both Michigan and Florida as well as earning the NBL #8 in AA Pro one year. In addition to racing in the afore-mentioned states, he has also spent extended periods racing the regional scenes in Colorado and California.

He is one of the lucky ones who has been able to transform their passion, in Geof’s case BMX racing, into a business and career. Prior to J&R Geof started his own BMX brand called 24se7en BMX which has endured the test of time as a BMX frame and parts brand. He is also quietly proud to have played a small part in helping the old Answer BMX become the new Answer BMX. And Geof has always been deeply involved with training and developing riders having been an instrumental part of the re-launch of Camp Woodward’s BMX racing program back in the early 2000’s. Finally, Geof takes great pride in his involvement with the 2008 US Olympic Team where 3 of our 4 riders used his Quick-snap starting gates for training.

During his time at J&R BMX Superstore, Geof wore many hats including wheel builder, event vending, showroom sales and expert wrench. He is quick to remind people of the earlier days of traveling from race to race in a small truck and the various perils and adventures that went along with being involved with a young company. And while things have changed a lot over the years, Geof is thankful to the Morrisons for giving him the opportunity to deal with the public and to learn and refine much of what he knows about BMX.

As for the future, Geof has two significant projects queued up for himself. One is The Burg Cycling Complex in St. Petersburg. Working with local groups, the vision for this multi-use bicycle facility is to further develop the current BMX race track to assist in the growth and development of the local racing scene. Additionally, a ‘flow-park’ consisting of jumps, berms and other trails is being developed to serve the BMX freestyle community as well as mountain bike dirt-jump and four-cross riders. Finally for road riders, a cyclo-cross course is envisioned to be used to hold ‘cross’ races and training sessions.

But the most important project for Geof is to refocus his efforts on the 24se7en BMX business in order to grow it to a more sustainable volume. With a dedication to high quality and unique design, there seems to be a place for products like these in the market. Having been a resident of Swaziland in Africa as well as residing in the UK for a brief period, Geof is a world traveler and he has plans to ‘hit the road’ both in the US and abroad in order to spread the word and as he puts it ‘build the family’. Morphine Industries Stops at the Gator Nationals

The Morphine Crew headed to Oldsmar BMX for the Gator Nationals, one of the first big stops of the race year. Morphine came sporting the new threads and its usual swagger.

A Pro - Olijuwon Davis, started off the weekend racing on Friday night, he made a statement that he came a long way to win. He backed that statement up with a top podium spot to start the weekend. Saturday and Sunday were hard fought with 20+ riders in the field. O.D. took a 4th on Saturday and narrowly missing the main on Sunday.

Vet Pro - Tim Dinger, came to practice and hang with the family. However with less than a month back on the track after a frustrating year of two broken collar bones and a severe leg injury requiring surgery to repair ligaments that articulate his ankle, Tim could not resist the urge to race.

Saturday started off with an impressive show of his raw talent and desire and he started off in the top three for the first few motos. Round three saw Dinger get the jhole shot on a stacked motto and lead the line-up into the second turn. Tim jumped the triple into the turn and washed out taking a breathtaking face plant into the asphalt knocking himself out cold. However in true dinger fashion, he got up and brushed himself off only losing some skin and a few points off his I.Q. It was great to see Dinger back and with a new desire and we look forward to him coming back full strength!

19-27X - Brandon Elmore, unfortunately showed up to Oldsmar under the weather. He was able to pull it together on Saturday and in one of the toughest classes took a deuce and a spot on the podium. However, Sunday was rough and Brandon was unable to get himself up and running and pulled out.

Jr. Men / 16X - Noah Reeves, took the first opportunity available to step it up at Oldsmar and jump into the Jr. men class. Noah hit the track on Saturday in class with a great start and a podium stop with a 3rd. Jr. Men came up short with a one point deficient to make the main. Sunday proved to be a flip flop, taking a lane 8 first turn pinch in semi to miss class and taking a lane 8 start in Jr. men to get tangled but come back to a 7th place in Main.

11X - Dylan Shipley, hitting the track for the first time as an 11x was no different and just another day to take care of business. Dylan rode strong all weekend even with a hard digger on Saturday. Taking a solid 5th on Saturday and coming back for more on Sunday with a podium finish of 3rd.

Next stop on the tour – Hometown of a large portion of Morphine Crew – Hotlanta and Powder Springs.

The Redline Cup Series for 2013 begins in Florida with a stop at Sarasota BMX on March 24th. In this new year riders will need two Redline Cup scores plus their Championship weekend scores for the best chance to win the overall.

Rest in Peace Jason Wetherhold

The Florida BMX Community lost one of our own recently. Jason Wetherhold was a regular part of the Okeeheelee BMX family. This tribute was written by Rodney Archer.

"Jason Alan Wetherhold, for 15 plus years Uncle Moldy, Uncle Fester, or The Mold. He had many names and even more positive qualities and a rather disturbing sense of humor and talent for animal noises. To some he was a supportive team owner, an encouraging sponsor, a great bike mechanic, and to most lucky others Moldy was all that combined with an amazing friend, a trusted advisor, a comic relief, riding partner, encouraging trainer and super sponsor and boss. The intense pain we all feel is overshadowed only by the warm funny memories and the love he shared with us. Jay ALWAYS & WITHOUT QUESTIONS gave so much of his time, energy, help, advice, ANYTHING & EVERYTHING withoout EVER asking for anything in return. H was ALWAYS more concerned with the happiness, success & betterment of his friends and loved ones than material or monetary things. The ENTIRE ROADKILL FAMILY nationwide will miss JAY(Moldy). I Love you uncle Mold. We at ROADKILL would like to thank Justin Joy, Tommy Cross, Chris Marin and all those who supported us during this painful time."

Remembering Jason Wetherhold

The Red Rocket Podiums at the Gator Nationals

The Gator Nationals returned to Oldsmar BMX on the weekend of March 7-9th with great acclaim. The best riders from around the world put in some action packed motos in this early season battle for National points. Among those fighting for recognition was the Corsa Racewear Factory rider Kendra "The Red Rocket" Stoddard.

Kendra is a regular on the National circuit but this year her motivation and skills are shining brighter than ever. She tackled the Gator National in two classes on both days walking away with 3 podium finishes. Kendra battled the likes of Felicia Stancil and Jamie Windholz, proving that she deserves a spot among the best. Over the weekend she took 1st and 2nd in Girls Cruiser. Then in her 20" age group she landed 3rd and 4th.

Corsa Racewear is supremely proud of Kendra's accomplishments and look forward to watching her grow as a rider during the 2013 season.

It was truly winter in Florida this past weekend as the 2013 Florida Cup Series rolled into St. Petersburg. The temperature dipped below 50 degrees with gusts over 20mph at the newly named and fully rebuilt Burg Cycling Complex. Riders donned their warmest racing gear and shivered on the high rise starting hill for two solid days of racing.

Corsa Racewear Factory rider Amanda Carr blasted through the competition and made a firm statement of her intentions. Not only did she take decisive wins on both days against the likes of Tiffany Bontorno, Tatiana Zurita and Carley Young, but she also made it known that her return is just the first step on the long pathway to the 2016 Olympics.

Chase Chevalier 15X was also in action this weekend. Always elbow deep in a talented class, Chase took on a full field which included Ryan Nenno and Mario Lopez. His 3rd place podium finish on Saturday moves him up to the top of the points ranking for the 16X class where he will finish the Cup season in May.

Kendra Stoddard 17G also made an appearance at the Saturday race. The red rocket blasted away her rivals Rebecca McKenzie and Jayme Lamb securing an outright victory.
