Sigilon Therapeutics, a biotech firm that specialises in non-viral engineered cell-based therapies for diseases such as diabetes, saw its stock price soar more than eightfold to US$27 (A$40) on Thursday after pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly agreed to buy it.

Funds of Afeyan’s venture capital firm, Flagship Pioneering, own 31.9 per cent of Sigilon, according to the company’s latest proxy filing.

Historical trades indicate Sigilon is yet another of Afeyan’s remarkably well-placed bets.

Just last month, the company was at risk of being delisted because its shares were priced so low. It underwent a one-for-13 reverse stock split — meaning the number of existing shares were consolidated into fewer, proportionally more valuable shares — which boosted its value just enough to satisfy the minimum price requirement for continued listing on Nasdaq.

Eli Lilly, a major provider of diabetes drugs and insulin, owned a nearly 8.44 per cent stake in Sigilon as of March 27 and has now offered to buy the lot, giving it access to Sigilon’s signature diabetes-management products.

Biden, 53, is seen flashing what looks like a crack pipe and smoking it while driving through a residential neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, on June 12, 2018, according to the photos uploaded by Marco Polo, a nonprofit firm headed by former Donald Trump aide Garrett Ziegler.

Less than two months later, he was seen racing to Las Vegas on August 1, when he took a snap of the car’s dashboard, revealing that he was going at least 172mph.

The pictures were found on Biden’s infamous laptop, which also contained messages to multiple women waiting for him to arrive in Sin City for a hot tub party, The Daily Mail reported Sunday.

“I don’t have a bathing suit and I really really wanted to wear a cute bathing suit,’ one woman named “Cheryl,” wrote to President Biden’s troubled son. “But I don’t have any money to buy one so then I’m just going to have to be naked right?”

The Vegas party, however, appeared to be more than some of the women expected, with another writing: “Honestly babe the problem is you have too many girls there.”

She added: “I understand you like a lot of girls. That’s fine do one at a time.”

The Vegas trip appears to have taken place during the weeks-long bender Hunter Biden admitted to partaking in during a January 2019 conversation with a hooker, which was caught on film when he forgot to turn off his laptop camera after having sex with her.

The speeding incident was only one of several where Biden appeared to disregard traffic and safety laws while snapping photos of himself.

The aforementioned Virginia incident shows Biden driving down Old Dominion Drive, near the Washington Golf and Country Club, showing off a crack pipe in hand.

Biden was driving himself to the Washington Dulles Airport after missing his flight to Los Angeles the day before, according to the records uploaded by Marco Polo.

Millions of Your Taxpayer Dollars Are Going to Fund Foreign Pride Parades and Drag Shows

A new report is shedding light on the Biden administration’s efforts to propagate the notion of LGBT “pride” worldwide. The Washington Free Beacon reports that millions of dollars have been spent by the US State Department organizing and funding pride parades and drag shows around the world.

Not only that, but your taxpayer dollars have also gone to promoting puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for “transgender” children.

The Biden administration has given nearly $4.6 million to help foreign groups promote LGBT projects like drag shows and pride parades.

Advocacy groups from at least 55 foreign nations have received millions from the Biden State Department to fund a range of initiatives aimed at bolstering the LGBT community and spreading its ideology into the mainstream, according to a Washington Free Beacon review of federal spending databases. The United States has helped organize pride parades in at least seven different countries, paid for drag queen shows in Ecuador, funded a Polish advocacy group that encourages puberty blockers for children with gender confusion, and sent cash to a Mexican group that markets cross-sex hormones to gender-confused individuals.

The United States is a country in over $30 trillion of debt, yet it apparently has enough extra cash laying around to play the social engineering game in Poland, Ecuador, and elsewhere. That’s just one of several absurdities that jump out at me about using American taxpayer money to do this stuff.

The next is obviously why the State Department is dabbling in this in the first place. What foreign policy goal in pursuit of actual American interests is being fulfilled by paying for men dressed as women to dance around for kids? What geopolitical priority is furthered by helping to push puberty blockers onto vulnerable children?

From a practical standpoint, the answer is obviously none. None of us are made safer or more prosperous by promoting transgender ideology in Mexico. Joe Biden and his ideological warriors don’t care about that, though. The government doesn’t exist to defend American interests abroad. It exists to formulate cultural change at the demand of the left, even in countries that obviously have no desire for such (though, those that do no more need American taxpayer money than the rest).

George Soros’ foundation lays off 40% of workforce after billionaire investor’s son takes over

George Soros-controlled Open Society Foundations is all set to lay off at least 40 per cent of its workforce a month after the 92-year-old US investor handed the reins to his son, Alexander Soros.

The Open Society Foundations announced the layoffs in a statement, which was signed by Alexander Soros and the foundation’s president, Mark Malloch-Brown. It said the foundation would undergo “significant changes” to its operating model.

“Through this new model, the Board aims to transform operations across the global network, with the goal of generating a nimbler organization better able to build on past achievements and confront urgent and emerging challenges,” the statement said.

Open Society Foundations currently has about 800 staff across the globe. A spokesperson for the Open Society Foundations told CNN that implementing the organisation’s new vision required “difficult decisions,” and that it planned to reduce its headcount by no less than 40 per cent globally.

With a net worth of about $8.5 billion, Soros is the founder of the Open Society Foundation. The organisation supports civil society groups around the world to advance “freedom and democracy.”

In February this year, Soros targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the turmoil over the Adani Group crisis could open the “door to a democratic revival” in the country. Earlier this year, Hindenburg Research submitted a report accusing the Gautam Adani-controlled companies of using offshore companies to manipulate their share prices. The short-seller also flagged concerns about high debt, eroding $11 billion in investor wealth.

Soros has been critical of Modi and in return, was slammed by the BJP over attempting to intervene in “India’s democratic processes.”

“Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in parliament,” said Soros.

One of the world’s most common artificial sweeteners is set to be declared a possible carcinogen next month by a leading global health body, according to two sources with knowledge of the process, pitting it against the food industry and regulators.

Aspartame, used in products from Coca-Cola diet sodas to Mars’ Extra chewing gum and some Snapple drinks, will be listed in July as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” for the first time by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the World Health Organization’s (WHO) cancer research arm, the sources told Reuters.

The IARC ruling, finalised earlier this month after a meeting of the group’s external experts, is intended to assess whether something is a potential hazard or not, based on all the published evidence.

It does not take into account how much of a product a person can safely consume. This advice for individuals comes from a separate WHO expert committee on food additives, known as JECFA (the Joint WHO and Food and Agriculture Organization’s Expert Committee on Food Additives), alongside determinations from national regulators.

However, similar IARC rulings in the past for different substances have raised concerns among consumers about their use, led to lawsuits, and pressured manufacturers to recreate recipes and swap to alternatives. That has led to criticism that the IARC’s assessments can be confusing to the public.

JECFA, the WHO committee on additives, is also reviewing aspartame use this year. Its meeting began at the end of June and it is due to announce its findings on the same day that the IARC makes public its decision – on July 14.

Since 1981, JECFA has said aspartame is safe to consume within accepted daily limits. For example, an adult weighing 60 kg (132 pounds) would have to drink between 12 and 36 cans of diet soda – depending on the amount of aspartame in the beverage – every day to be at risk. Its view has been widely shared by national regulators, including in the United States and Europe.

An IARC spokesperson said both the IARC and JECFA committees’ findings were confidential until July, but added they were “complementary”, with IARC’s conclusion representing “the first fundamental step to understand carcinogenicity”. The additives committee “conducts risk assessment, which determines the probability of a specific type of harm (e.g. cancer) to occur under certain conditions and levels of exposure.”

Supreme Court rejects affirmative action at colleges as unconstitutional

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the affirmative action admission policies of Harvard and the University of North Carolina are unconstitutional.

The ruling is a massive blow to decades-old efforts to boost enrollment of minorities at American universities through policies that took into account applicants’ race.

“Eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it,” wrote Chief Justice John Roberts in the majority opinion, which all five of his fellow conservative justices joined in.

Roberts wrote said that both Harvard’s and UNC’s affirmative action programs “unavoidably employ race in a negative manner, involve racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful end points.”

“We have never permitted admissions programs to work in that way, and we will not do so today,” Roberts wrote, finding that the universities’ policies violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. The clause bars states from denying people equal protection under the law.

The chief justice added, however, that “nothing prohibits universities from considering an applicant’s discussion of how race affected the applicant’s life, so long as that discussion is concretely tied to a quality of character or unique ability that the particular applicant can contribute to the university.”

Justice Clarence Thomas, a Black conservative who wrote a concurring opinion, said that the schools’ affirmative action admissions policies “fly In the face of our colorblind Constitution.”

Chinese spy balloon used US tech to spy on Americans – WSJ

The Chinese spy balloon that passed over the U.S. early this year used American technology that helped it collect audio-visual information, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing preliminary findings from a closely held investigation.

Analysis from several US defense and intelligence agencies, found that the balloon carried commercially available U.S. gear, along with more specialized Chinese sensors and other equipment to collect photographs, video and other information to transmit to China, the WSJ said, citing US officials.

The findings support a conclusion that the craft was intended for spying, and not for weather monitoring as China had claimed, the report said.

But the balloon did not seem to send data from its eight-day passage over Alaska, Canada and some other contiguous US states back to China, WSJ said.

The White House and the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Astronomers reveal evidence of universe’s ‘background hum’

Astronomers across the world announced on Thursday that they have found the first evidence of a long-theorised form of gravitational waves that create a “background hum” rumbling throughout the universe.

The breakthrough — made by hundreds of scientists using radio telescopes in North America, Europe, China, India and Australia after years of work — was hailed as a major milestone that opens a new window into the universe.

First predicted by Albert Einstein more than a century ago, gravitational waves are ripples in the fabric of the universe that travel through everything at the speed of light almost entirely unimpeded.

Their existence was not confirmed until 2015, when the US and Italian observatories detected the first gravitational waves created by two black holes colliding.

These “high-frequency” waves were the result of a single violent event that sends a strong, short burst rippling towards Earth.

But for decades scientists have been searching for low-frequency gravitational waves, thought to be constantly rolling through space like background noise.

Joining forces under the banner of the International Pulsar Timing Array consortium, scientists working at gravitational wave detectors on several continents revealed on Thursday they have finally found strong evidence of these background waves.

“We now know that the universe is awash with gravitational waves,” Michael Keith of the European Pulsar Timing Array told AFP.

Ukraine could become world’s first cashless economy

Ukraine is considering imposing a complete ban on the circulation of cash in the country in a bid to stamp out corruption, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Rostyslav Shurma, revealed on Wednesday.

Speaking at the London Ukraine Recovery Conference, he said his government will present a roadmap on “whether we will do it or not.” The politician expressed hope that “the decision will be ‘yes’,” adding that such a measure would help prevent bribery.

“We are discussing it. These are very deep and serious discussions within our team, the prime minister and the president. We want to become the first totally cashless economy,” Komsomolskaya Pravda in Ukraine quoted Shurma as saying.

The initiative could become a “very effective instrument for liquidation of 95-99% of all corruption cases” in Ukraine, according to the official.

Economists, however, have expressed doubts over the scheme. Ukrainian financial analyst Aleksey Kushch noted that a ban on legal tender would prompt a flow of the hryvna into dollars, triggering a collapse of the national currency. Moreover, he pointed out that hard cash becomes the only means of payment during power outages.

In Ukraine “people have been paying bribes through offshore companies for a long time, so cash has no effect on corruption,” the head of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, argued. He claimed that Shurma was engaging in “meaningless publicity and just said something stupid.”

According to the analyst, around 40% of settlements in Ukraine are currently conducted in cash.

Malaria spreading in Florida – Two years after release of Genetically Modified Mosquitoes

The Florida Department of Health is issuing a statewide mosquito-borne illness advisory following four confirmed cases of malaria in Sarasota County.

Malaria is transmitted through infected mosquitoes. The advisory issued on Wednesday warns residents to take precautions by applying bug spray and avoiding areas with high mosquito populations.

They also advise wearing long-sleeved clothing when possible, especially during sunrise and sunset when mosquitoes are most active.

The Health Department continues to work closely with local partners and county mosquito control. Aerial and ground mosquito spraying continues to mitigate the risk of further transmission.

The cause of malaria has been identified as the Plasmodium vivax species. Effective treatment is readily available through hospitals and other healthcare providers.

Genetically Modified Mosquitoes Stunt Malaria Parasite Growth, Prevent Transmission

Scientists led by researchers from the Transmission:Zero team at Imperial College London have engineered mosquitoes that slow the growth of malaria-causing parasites in their guts, and prevent transmission of the disease to humans. The mosquitoes carry a genetic modification that causes them to produce compounds in the gut that stunt the growth of the malaria parasites, meaning that the parasites are unlikely to reach the mosquitoes’ salivary glands and be passed on to a human in a bite before the insects die.

The research team showed that the strategy can dramatically reduce the possibility of malaria spreading, in a lab setting. If proven safe and effective in real-world settings it could offer a powerful new tool to help eliminate malaria. Collaborators from the Institute for Disease Modeling at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also developed a model that, for the first time, can assess the impact of such modifications if used in a variety of African settings. They found that the modification developed by the Transmission:Zero team could be a powerful tool for bringing down cases of malaria even where transmission is high.

The innovation is designed so it can be coupled with existing “gene drive” technology to promote the spread of the modification and drastically cut malaria transmission. The researchers aim to test whether their approach can block the transmission of parasites that have infected humans, as well as those that have been lab-reared. The safety of the new modification will be tested thoroughly before combining it with a gene drive for real-world tests.

If all goes well, field trials are anticipated within 2–3 years. George Christophides, PhD, a professor in the department of life sciences at Imperial, said, “History has taught us that there is no silver bullet when it comes to malaria control, thus we will have to use all the weapons we have at our disposal and generate even more. Gene drive is one such very powerful weapon that in combination with drugs, vaccines, and mosquito control can help stop the spread of malaria and save human lives.”

FTX begins talks to relaunch international cryptocurrency exchange

Bankrupt FTX is moving ahead with efforts to revive its flagship international cryptocurrency exchange, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday citing CEO John Ray.

The company “has begun the process of soliciting interested parties to the reboot of the FTX.com exchange,” Ray said, according to the Journal’s report.

The failed crypto company has been holding talks with investors about backing a potential restart of the FTX.com exchange through structures such as a joint venture, the report added citing people familiar with the discussions.

In November, FTX filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States following its spectacular collapse that sent shivers through the digital assets industry.

In September 2022, DeSantis garnered worldwide attention when he sent two flights of 49 illegal aliens to the ultra-liberal elite island of Martha’s Vineyard where the likes of former President Obama has a $12 million estate.

Quickly after the illegal aliens arrived, officials on Martha’s Vineyard declared a “humanitarian crisis” and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R) intervened to bus nearly all of illegal aliens off the island to Joint Base Cape Cod. Many have ended up in other locations since.

“At some point in time, they have to move from here to somewhere else,” a local official said at the time. In the 2020 presidential election, the island voted 84 percent for President Joe Biden, further securing its status as a deep blue fixture of New England’s elite.

The New York Times now reveals that despite Martha’s Vineyard’s liberal bona fides, just four of the 49 illegal aliens initially flown to the island have stayed.

Wuhan researcher claims China engineered COVID-19 as a ‘bioweapon’

According to an ANI report, a researcher from the Wuhan Institute of Virology claims that China allegedly engineered the coronavirus as a “bioweapon.”

In an interview shared by ANI, Chao Shao told Jennifer Zeng, a member of the International Press Association, that he and his colleagues were given four strains of the virus to determine which strain could spread most effectively. Zeng, a Chinese-born human rights activist and author, took the interview between March and April 2020.

Chao Shao recounted an incident where another researcher from the institute, Shan Chao, admitted that their superior had given them four strains of the coronavirus to test their infectivity across various species, including humans. Chao Shao also referred to the coronavirus as a “bioweapon.”

He further mentioned that several of his colleagues had gone missing during the 2019 Military World Games held in Wuhan. One of the missing researchers later disclosed that they were sent to hotels accommodating athletes from different countries to “inspect health and hygiene conditions.” Chao Shao suspected that their real purpose was to spread the virus, as checking hygiene conditions did not require virologists.

Additionally, Chao Shan claimed that in April 2020, he was sent to Xinjiang to assess the health of Uyghur individuals held in re-education camps, insinuating that he was either instructed to spread the virus or observe its effects on humans, as a virologist’s expertise was unnecessary for conducting health checks.

The Justice Department’s watchdog said Tuesday that a “combination of negligence, misconduct and outright job performance failures” by the federal Bureau of Prisons and workers at the New York City jail enabled the wealthy financier to take his own life in August 2019, finding no evidence of foul play.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz blamed numerous factors for Epstein’s death, including the jail’s failure to assign him a cellmate and overworked guards who lied on logs after failing to make regular checks. Had the guards done so, Horowitz said, they would’ve found Epstein had excess linens, which he used in his suicide.

The failures are deeply troubling not only because they allowed Epstein’s suicide but also because they “led to questions about the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death and effectively deprived Epstein’s numerous victims of the opportunity to seek justice,” Horowitz said in a video statement.

Horowitz’s investigation, the last of several official inquiries into Epstein’s death, echoed previous findings that some members of the jail staff involved in guarding Epstein were overworked. He identified 13 employees with performance failures and recommended possible criminal charges against four workers. Only the two workers assigned to guard Epstein the night he died were charged, avoiding jail time in a plea deal after admitting to falsifying logs.

Horowitz’s report also revealed new details about Epstein’s behavior in the days before his death, including that he signed a new last will and testament while meeting with his lawyers two days before he was found unresponsive in his cell the morning of Aug. 10, 2019. Jail officials did not know about the new will until after Epstein’s death, Horowitz said.

Few of the cameras in the area where Epstein was housed were making recordings of the images they captured due to a mechanical failure July 29. The prison had contracted for a camera system upgrade three years before his death, but it had not been completed, in part due to serious staffing shortages.

Meanwhile, Epstein was alone the night of his death, even though the prison’s psychology department had informed 70 employees that he needed to be with a cellmate after his previous suicide attempt in July. His cellmate was nevertheless transferred Aug. 9, with no action taken to replace him. He was also allowed an unmonitored personal phone call the night before he was found dead, a violation of BOP policy.
