I've wanted an acoustic bass guitar for years but don't play it enough to justify the prices I've seen. I couldn't resist the Dean at under [...] and I wasn't disappointed. This instrument feels quite light for its size yet the neck feels very solid with a large round shape to it. I never expect an instrument to be playable out of the box and, sure enough, I had to loosen up the truss rod (with the included Allen wrench).

I'm not sure if the strings it came with were Rotosound or ordinary phosphor-bronze, but that's not the sound I'm after. I agree with another reviewer who opted for flatwound strings (which are hard to find for acoustics, but a set of Fender electrics, 9050M's, gave it a kind of smooth, "upright-like" tone once you find the right touch. I mentioned the truss rod and, to be honest, the neck has a bit of a hump on the high string side, resulting in some buzzing on the G and D strings around the 9th-10th frets. I'm still in the setup stage and I like to tinker so I hope to tweak the saddle and nut and possible shave the frets/fingerboard if I can't get rid of that buzz.

Cosmetically, the satin finish and detail are very impressive. For this price I expect imperfections and there is a dark blemish on the soundboard where a tiny bit of what I suspect is painted-on purfling bled, possibly while the finish was being sprayed (it is a Chinese-made instrument and I've seen it on cheap violins). There's also a tiny half-grain-of-rice-sized chip in the neck finish that I hope a furniture pen and a little lacquer will take care of.

Other than that, it looks great, plays well and has a nice woody tone. If I saw this instrument "on the rack" I would have guessed it was at least twice the price if not more. I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. It was just a old Fender Pbass with stock pickups. The bass imediatly had a deeper sound and nicer feel. The strings rang longer and stayed in tune for outstanding periods of time. I had the medium-lights. Now for the pure comedy. The strings outlasted my bass. Yes that is right... the strings were still in good condition and still holding their tone for an entire gig in Jan 2006. 1 set of these lasted me 16years. My Pbass broke just beneath the neck in the body and I am finally going to give up the ghost and buy another set of strings for a bass... There is imediatly no doubt in my mind as to which set to buy. I went through 5 sets of strings in 3 years due to them shredding near joints and then these lasted me 16 YEARS... Value.. Sound... Tone... Tunning... I had bandmates tell me to replace my strings since they knew how old they were and then I would hand my bass over and say play.. then they would say.. um nevermind.. by God.. how long do those last?... ehhe Watching the guitarist changing strings every few weeks and me beating these strings into the ground and still getting perfect tone out of them for that long.. Great lightweight case that provides alot of protection. This thing is built really solid and for the price you really can't go wrong.

Also just a side note. I couldn't get this thing opened for the life of me and I thought it was locked. Spent 20 minutes searching for the key in the box. I just recently fell for the Bass. I was looking for a package, since I'm a noob and still have so much to learn. Based on the looks and reviews, this seemed to be the best bass kit for the price.
Like many I was kind of worried after ordering, the contents of the negative reviews began to sink deeper into my mind, but it arrived yesterday and I have no complaints concerning the BASS.
The accessories however, are pretty shoddy. The bag has NO padding and the strap is thin and actually hurts my shoulder. It would be suitable for a ukulele, not a heavy bass. These are two things I will need to replace very soon...ahhhhh more money....
I also have trouble understanding people's complaints about the amp. I may not know much, but this thing is LOUD and I never put the volume all the way up. I can see it being covered by drums, but i play with my obnoxious nephew on his electric guitar, amp and all, and have no trouble hearing what I'm playing.
The instructional DVD is a bit....weird. I wasted about 20 mins on it...but I think that aside from maybe a scale or two you can get much better lessons and tutorials on youtube.
All in all this is a great Bass for my situation. I am a beginner with my only prior musical experience being with the Violin, along with an ongoing lesson on guitar. I'm picking this up for a new hobby and so this sufficient. Very nice sound, look and weight. I just purchased this bass (for exactly 320 bucks) and it was worth every penny. I was a little worried but after it arrived, it far exceeded my expectations. I'm a guitarist by nature but I do play bass especially when I record in my home studio. I needed a new one since my Fender Precision's neck was warping and would sound out of tune even after I had tuned it. This bass was shipped to me from a music store in South Jersey (near Cherry Hill) to Asbury Park, NJ where I reside.. so it arrived in about 2 days. The box was packed nicely with bubble wrap and lots of padding so I knew it didn't go through any rough handling on the way over. I immediately changed the stock steel strings to D'Addario flatwounds (I prefer the warmer Beatle-esque bass tones) and also made a minor adjustment on the truss rod to make the neck a little straighter and less bowed (it wasn't bad at all and is a common issue with most bass necks) and I was ready to go. Plays very well, adjusted the action a little closer. No buzzing. Neck is smooth and narrow near the head stock. I also love how the headstock is black like the body. Looks sleek and sexy hanging up on my wall and I will definitely use this bass to record with as well as take it out live in the years to come. Thanks Amazon, I am very pleased with this purchase. 5 stars for the value/price break. At this price it's a disposable/beater if nothing else. But, it sounds pretty good. It sounds VERY good for something that costs less than dinner for four.

Here is the real bottom line: it's a cheap acoustic-electric bass with cheap components and cheap build quality which is why the price is, cheap! It's not a Fender or a Martin. They aren't under $100 even in "needs repair" and broken condition. It has a decent tone, it holds the pitch, it's light, and the short scale is great!

Of course, like all instruments, and especially stringed instruments, it's not perfectly setup out of the box. 1) new strings! 2) file the frets on the sides 3) check the neck and adjust the truss rod 4) knock down the saddle just a touch 5) did I mention, new strings It's normal - all new stringed instruments need to be setup to be decent players. I also had to oil the fretboard, it was really dry.

Buy a set of short-scale strings for it. TruBass Black Nylon are sweet. Thick long scale strings clipped down won't stay in tune. Good bass machines are cheap (comparatively) too so if you don't like your tuners it's a pretty simple tweak to put a nice set of Grover's on there. You could add a nice bone nut and saddle too. Then again, by the time you put all that into it, it's not a cheap bass anymore and you could have bought one with all of those features already there.

If you've been playing bass for 10 years or you record three days a week in Nashville then you should know better than to think you can buy a $1000+ bass for under $100. I have been playing bass for 28 years and decided I needed a small practice amp. I did not want a cheesy, no name amp...something smaller then my Peavey 300w combo stack (15" with 2x10" cab). I love my 300w stack...but, overkill in most situations except when I am on stage. Anyway, I had too much amp for the house and wanted something small, yet powerful. This Fender 75 has lots of guts and plays a lot louder then I expected. The bottem end is clean, but the mid range will knock your socks off...zero distortion or hiss. I actually have to turn the bass tone control down. The unit looks sexy, has a big "Fender" emblem, and performs exactly as designed. I have owned several practice amps...5w, 20w, and a 40w. They all played okay...but never enough volume. This Fender will surprise you with its volume and rattle-free performance. Lastly, the price is a steal. At $249 with a 5-yr Fender warranty...you can't go wrong. Only negative...it is a bit cumbersome and weights 50 lbs or so. Worth it though! Buy this amp. For the price, this is one heck of a bass. The pickups sound decent, it arrived with good intonation, and the action was pretty good right out of the box.

Please note, as a short-scale bass, this neck is shorter than a standard bass. I am primarily a six-string guitar player, but wanted a bass for recording demos and the occasional jam session. The shorter neck feels much more comfortable to me.

Pros:
-Comfortable, affordable, and fun to play.
-Cool aesthetics.
-Sounds good plugged in.
-Satin finish on the neck is very thin, smooth, and fast. This makes it easy to play. I have honestly played on $500+ instruments with necks that weren't this nice.

Cons:
-The finish on mine isn't perfect. This is a very minor gripe, especially considering the price.
-The hardware is poorly plated. The tuning machines seem like the chrome plating will peel off quickly. Again, not that big of a deal at this price range.
-I'm having trouble finding a gig-bag that this fits into nicely. Guitar gig-bags are too short, and standard bass gig-bags are too long.

I have 7 of these in my house and I trust them all with my guitars (two Fenders, a Gretsch, a Martin, a Gibson and some Epiphones).

They are solidly built and extremely easy to set up. All one needs to do is extended the tripod legs, plug in the top half of the neck and screw it in so that it stays locked in. This feature is great if you have a bass and need more length for the instrument.

Some people have complained about the foam not being safe for a nitrocellulose finish. I've no idea if that's the case. Nitrocellulose is typically found on more expensive guitars (I don't even think Gibson and Fender use it much nowadays, except perhaps in their custom shop models, but if you can pay $3,000 to $5,000 for a guitar, would you use an $8 stand for them?) If you're worried about this, I suppose you should skip the stand, or replace the foam with some terrycloth or felt.

Additionally, some people have complained about the welds failing on this stand. As far as I know, the only "weld" is at the bottom, on the "skirt" where the legs lock into place. Unless you abuse the stand, I simply don't see that piece failing.

This is really not a game. There is no career mode with tour buses and goals that typical games have. I think this is a good thing. The achievement that you earn is the ability to play guitar or bass. That's all I'm looking for. If you bought the first edition of Rocksmith and did not like it very much (I didn't like it), don't let that prevent you from getting this. This is like another planet.

Everyone is talking about Session Mode and I'm sure that will be a big selling point for people that already know how to play. For me, a beginning bassist, it's nice to have the band backing, but randomly hitting notes when you have no real idea of what you are doing is cool but I'm sure once I get the hang of playing, this part of the game will be much more enjoyable.

If you want to learn to play, get this. I am doing bass only but I am sure the guitar play works the same way. I am using the Lessons and here is how they are laid out:

You first choose your instrument and click Lessons if you are a noob like me. The first couple show you how to hold the instrument and things like that. Then you start getting videos of different techniques and each of those lessons comes with a practice track. Here is where Rocksmith shines! Using the Riff Repeater feature, you can adjust the difficulty level from 0-100 using a slider: the lower the difficulty, the fewer notes that will scroll on by. I purchased this bass after scrutinizing the photo posted in the add . I looked very much like my Fender Squire bass and naturally I hoped for it to be a fender squire maybe an older model or being sold at this price for whatever reason . I turned out to be a Huntington bass . A lot lighter and thinner than my Fender products but What the Hey it was only 80 bucks . Well surprize surprize it plays great and sounds fine .
