In what appears to be a reality show first, that contestant you really didn’t care one way or the other about who just got eliminated from that reality show you kind-of like, ended her brief and unspectacular stint on the show by saying,

“Hey America, this is definitely the last you will see of me!”

“Yep, I’m done.”

She continued speaking to the camera with absolutely no emotion.

“This wasn’t a great learning experience for me, I did not listen to one word the judges said and I most definitely did not become great friends with any of the other contestants.”

After wiping away no tears, she added, “I am taking nothing away from this and I will no doubt go back home to no loved ones and absolutely not continue in this profession. I hope you didn’t get too attached because I really have nothing left to offer. That was it, America. So don’t look for updates on my Facebook or MySpace pages because they don’t exist.”

As the camera rolls and she packed her bags and tools of the trade, she added, “I almost forgot, I wanted to thank no one.”

She finished her post-show interview saying how she looks forward to not cashing in on her brief fame by never appearing at local bars and hosting body shot and wet t-shirt competitions.

That said, I thought I’d give a little shout to the band that made my early years so joyful and so rockin’. I wrote a paper in sixth grade about “My Hero” and chose Roger Daltrey. I got a small bio paragraph from the “Story of The Who” record and made up the rest of his life story, four pages worth. Yep, got an “A.”

Back to the shout, I could have gone all geeky and picked a super deep track from “Who by Numbers” or “Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy” or chose a classic symphonic treasure from “Quadrophenia,” but I opted instead for some later-era Who. Here’s a beaut from the 1981 Face Dances record, a sometimes overlooked but nonetheless outstanding album.

Gotta love Roger’s ascot-scarf thingie and the sweet do. Did you catch the part when Pete went up to the mic to sing some backups at the wrong time and just made a stupid puckerfish face (2:54)? Lovely.

“Jeff, you last post was about Rush, now The Who?! Enough reminiscing, you nostalgic ass!” I know, sorry.

Every single time I enter Starbucks:

“Hi, what can I get started for you today?”

“Hi, could I please have a large coffee?”

“Venti coffee…?”

“Um, yeah, whatever dude.”

Grievance #1: I know many of your drinks require special machines, beakers, mortar and pestles, etc. to prepare, but stop with the word “started.”  How about what can you get me “completed” today? Or something crazy simple like, “Hi stupid, what can I get you?”

Throwing in “started” says to me:

“Strap in kid, we’ll start the process of simply pouring a cup of coffee in a paper cup in a few seconds, but as you know, this is Starbucks and we’re trained barristas and it is a very special procedure. You may want to take some time to consider a $7 sprout sandwich even though you said you did not want anything to eat. Just a thought as we begin preparing your Venti coffee and making sure we do not leave room for milk as you requested twice. Happy spills!”

Grievance #2: I know its extremely hacky to comment on Starbucks’ overly-precious naming convention, but no matter how many times I frequent the place and get corrected, I will never ever use their asinine terminology. From a user experience perspective, it’s like adding an extra page and click to a website, an annoying additional hurdle when attempting to achieve a simple goal.

Return: On this site we call them “Venti” breasts. Would you like to search for Venti breasts?

BTW, the only fast food branding term I will use is “Biggie.” “Biggie” rules when a word referring to french fries, when referring to a dead obese rapper, not so much.
