Userbooster Light v.4.5 Released!

Userbooster Light v.4.5 has just been released and available for immediate download.

Unlike similar tools for managing directory servers, Userbooster allows you to create, modify and delete objects locally and then commit the changes to a directory server in a mouse click. With the new version, you can alternatively save changes instantly on-the-fly.

An updated Object Properties grid displays all or filtered attributes for one or many objects. You can filter out the attributes by read-only values and by empty values. The content representation of an attribute is defined by the schema associated with the current profile.

A set of new built-in editors in the property grid should make your work more comfortable with attributes of the following types: DateAndTime, Flags, GUID, SID, Image and Binary.

The new version provides means for creating new objects through templates: you create a template for a particular type (specified by object classes) and then you have a dialog for creating objects of that type. This provides a universal way of creating any objects supported by the schema.

Another feature that an administrator may find helpful is called Task Scheduler: LDAP reports can now be created on schedule and optionally sent out by email.

Other new features include previewing the changes made before saving them, a quick object filter, new scenarios for placeholders and much more. You can read the full list of changes with screenshots here.

Userbooster Light v.4.1 Released!

We are happy to announce the release of Userbooster Light v.4.1. The new version features multiple improvements and advancements in managing users and other objects in directory services like Active Directory, OpenLDAP and Novel. The software is now fully Unicode aware and allows you to cache different activities offline and synchronize all changes at once at a predefined time point.

Unlike similar tools for managing directory servers, Userbooster allows you to create, modify and delete an arbitrary number of objects offline and then commit the changes to a directory server in a mouse click. Support for placeholders, unattended mode and automation of admin related tasks (e.g. creating mailboxes, manipulating NTFS rights, sending statistics through SMTP, etc.) makes Userbooster an invaluable tool for system administrators and saves time and effort when managing enterprise IT infrastructure.

The new features include:

Complete Unicode support.
Support for SSO through Kerberos and IWA.
Better editing of attributes of one or multiple objects.
Sending statistics in all common formats (XML, CSV, XLS) through SMTP.
Better support for placeholders when you can dynamically replace the value of an attribute with the value of another attribute or with the value of a placeholder set in the settings.

OpenLDAP for Windows v.2.4.23 With Full Unicode Support Released!

maxrc GmbH is happy to announce the first release of OpenLDAP for Windows with full Unicode support. The build is based on the latest release 2.4.23 from OpenLDAP Software.

The original package from OpenLDAP Software is ported to Windows and includes a number of changes that make OpenLDAP software Unicode-aware. These changes deal with command-line parameters, input and output streams and console input and output. Read more about this in Unicode Support in OpenLDAP for Windows.

OpenLDAP for Windows comes with an installer, which allows you to install the software with a few mouse clicks. When using OpenLDAP client tools you may also find helpful Kerberos authentication, which is available out of the box.

We are very pleased to announce the release of Userbooster Light 4.0. It presents many exciting new features and improvements including greater performance and scalability, refreshed user interface, a brand new report wizard and more.

All the new changes aim to make it easier and more effective to manage heterogeneous LDAP directory services including Active Directory, LDAP and Novel.

The new version introduces a flexible and consistent way of handling objects. The objects retrieved from a server are presented either in a hierarchical tree view or a plain list view. When you access and modify the properties of a particular object, it will always be a synchronized copy of the very same object regardless of the current view. So managing objects with the two views should give you an additional amount of flexibility and productivity.

Version 4.0 brings a new level of scalability when handling tens of thousands of objects and thousands of attributes in extreme cases. This is indispensible when you need to modify one or more attributes of a great number of objects at once.

Although Userbooster Light can easily retrieve and manage high volume of objects, with the new version you can limit the volume of data by applying an object filter, an attribute filter or both. In addition to a rich set of out of the box object filters, you can create your own object and attribute filters.

The new report wizard enables you to create printable reports. You can now easily customize the two out of the box report templates or create new ones that meet your demands. Userbooster retrieves data in XML format so you can modify or create your own XSL transformations to control the layout and appearance of objects and attributes in reports.

From now on you can use Userbooster Light for managing a limited number of objects for free. You can get a special license key from this page. The use of Userbooster Light with this key is absolutely free for any commercial and non-commercial purposes for unlimited time.

A growing number of companies in the Middle East are about to introduce lean IT concepts. A new market research of CA “Preparing for the Upturn with Lean IT“ confirms that in this recessionary climate, the greatest challenges facing EMEA organizations are all to do with driving efficiency: they want to do more with less, improve service levels, ensure close alignment between IT and business processes, and cut costs. Security is a priority, together with the need to identify critical business processes and their support by IT and efficient IT management. The results show that the respondents put their investment priorities on Service Management (88%), IT security (79%) and infrastructure and operations management (76%).

The current release of OpenLDAP for Windows v.2.4.18 now supports the Kerberos authentication using the Kerberos for Windows solution. The Kerberos configuration will be automatically performed during installation by determining the runtime environment. The package has been tested on Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Windows Server 2003/2008. A tabularised and graphical visualization of statistic counters of the OpenLDAP monitor database will be added soon to the Userbooster Web-Monitor.

We are proud to release OpenLDAP for Windows v.2.4.16, a convenient binary distribution of the OpenLDAP Software for Windows operating systems. The default backend is Berkeley DB with SSL support. The package has been tested on Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Windows Server 2003/2008. A tabularised and graphical visualization of statistic counters of the OpenLDAP monitor database will be added soon to the Userbooster Web-Monitor.

The current update features a new installer which takes into account the replacement of C++ libraries announced by Microsoft in bulletins MS09-034 and MS09-035. The new installer also offers the right TCP/IP ports for the slapd service depending on the underlying OS. Now you can also activate the statistics database during the installation procedure. Userbooster Light v.3.5 Released!

We are proud to announce the release of Userbooster Light v.3.5. The version introduces a number of features and improvements that makes it easier and more effective for you to perform some routine operations. With a single mouse click you can now install and uninstall a service that manages Microsoft Exchange Post Offices on remote machines. Another new feature allows you to grab a file with LDAP data (csv, ldif and xls) in the Windows Explorer, drag it into the Import view and get the relevant data appeared in the grid view of the application. This simplifies the export and import activities to the directory service.

There is also a feature that should save your time when you need to regularly import data from directory services. You configure a profile using the Profile Assistant wizard and save the profile data in a script file. That's it. Now you can close Userbooster and simply run this script in Windows Explorer or from Windows Scheduler. Userbooster will start in unattended mode and retrieve the requested data to the file you specified.
