In recent years Vato Gonzalez he has built a label, event and music genre called ‘Dirty House’. Foreign Beggars are a critically acclaimed rap group from London, the group won ‘Best New Act’ at the 2004 UK Hip Hop awards.

Badman Riddim has knocked up an awesome 1.5million views on YouTube and gained support from Radio 1 heavyweights Annie Mac and Zane Lowe and now we're happy to bring you a free download of the massive remix headed up by underground duo Tru_Fix & Thunderskank.

Producer and DJ, Tru_Fix has spent the past two years honing his production skills at MI7 Records - from his first love Drum & Bass. With Milton Keynes based dubstep producer Tunderskank they have produced an unmistakably heavy, fast paced, bass driven mix that will leave you utterly speechless!
We've got the likes of Wilkinson, Culture Shock, Delta Heavy, DC Breaks, Hamilton, Basha, theres a lot of people and theyre all making great music, it's looking strong and we've got a release coming out every two weeks for pretty much rest of the year.<u7:p></u7:p>

How much do you worry about getting them releases out quickly before they get leaked to the file-sharing public?
 <u7:p></u7:p>
We always like to get em out quick! But its more down to the artist and the process they go through when they're finishing tracks off. Theres no point in holding back the music for no reason so we put it out if its ready to go. We had Nightlife 5 out at the end of last year, which was a great opportunity to showcase some of our new artists' work.
 <u7:p></u7:p>
People are very excited about the fundamentals of dnb at the moment. It's a unique energy thing... we did a night at Fabric a couple of weeks ago that was bigger than anything we could have envisaged, 4000 people all having it!<u7:p></u7:p>

And how has the move to Fabric worked out for RAM?
 <u7:p></u7:p>
When I get given the figures on a Monday after the gig I can't even believe that you can fit that many people inside fabric. I'm very conscious of the fact that people need some space to dance so I've asked them to put a limit on it!<u7:p></u7:p>

What is it about your mixing style that has got you this serious nickname?
 <u7:p></u7:p>
Well I just like the rotation of having three decks involved, it took me about four or five years to get to the point where I could bring in the double drop technique on the regular. Anyone who knows me knows I like my longer sets where I can really let loose, but events like this one are multi-genre so I can't really ask for the 3 hour set that I like, so here I'm just in, out and onto the next one.<u7:p></u7:p>

WORDS BY ANNA HERBER
 <u7:p></u7:p><u7:p></u7:p>

<u7:p> </u7:p>

Skream presents... Apologies for the first four coming at you all at once, but still four FREE downloads, what more could you ask for on the weekend! Our first four downloads come from the true Kings of Dubstep... Skream and Benga.

Yesterday we hit you up with a massive new tune from Benga, titled Acid Lie. A new direction for one of the pioneers of the scene that in the last couple of years has truly taken the world by storm with its aggressive beats and brash structure. Transforming the dance music world forever.

One aspect of production I've always wanted to see in Dubstep is artists incorportating sounds of the past into their music. Earlier this year we heard Doctor P shoot to stardom with Sweet Shop, with its 4x4/piano stab build up and classic dubstep drop.

Here's another MONSTER tune from Benga which was the first tune he played at his recent set @ UTR's Halloween bash. As yet on an unknown label and without a release date.

Today, Benga aims to change the stereotype of what Dubstep is to most people; a half time beat, and an LFO. He's embarking on a journey of production which is fresh, exciting and most importantly forward thinking. Dark sounds and dark beats, just how we like it here at UTR.

We're able to bring you two new downloads from Benga and two downloads from Skream, please as always, enjoy them, and play them LOUD!

Mumdance - Kerplunk Pt. I

This week, he's back with a top new release on Grime label No Hats No Hoods, his first for the rising London based label and collective. With the vocal talents of fellow NHNH's artists Trim and Jammer on the mic this was sure to be something special.

Back in the summer Mumdance put out his Different Circles mixtape, which you can also grab from a past artist feature on the man. Showcasing cultured and worldly sounds from around the spectrum of bass music, this mixtape was a real eye opener for me on what to expect from Mumdance in the future.

I've had my eye on him since his early days, when he mainly used to release only remixes, most notably of The Whip's Divebomb, Gucci Mane's I Be Everywhere, and Santigold's Creator.

He also went on to collaborate with Belgium's techno prince Brodinski with Eurostarr getting released on Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records, and New York based producer AC Slater, whose Transatlantic Riddim featuring 77 Klash and Badness was released earlier this year on Drop The Lime's Trouble & Bass Recordings.

We'll be exploring the time honoured traditions of the past and more modern styles of dance music that have helped shape the musical landscape of British contemporary culture in London and throughout the UK.
Each mix will serve as a small glimpse at into where each DJ and/or artist sees their direction heading right now.

First up we have Vesper whose had a steady to prominence over the past 18 months, being deeply involved in UTR's evolution as an dance institution for the youth of today.
As well as helping to recommend the newest cutting edge artists for UTR, he's also helped to push current and forward thinking underground sounds in his DJ sets at UTR and Mashed Up nights.

Here he presents the first edition of our new series, a short 15 minute journey through a new (or rather older) sound sweeping through the UK underground right now. A sound that at the same time has already crossed over to the mainstream and entered the UK charts.

In the mid to late 1990s a new, hybrid sound was born out of the Acid-House and Techno scenes of the late 80s in the UK, comprising primarily of 4x4 rhythms, but layered with lairy and prominent breakbeats. This was at the time coined as Breakbeat Hardcore, a sound which eventually went on to spawn the sounds of UK Garage and ultimately the modern Grime and Dubstep scenes we know of today.

This mix showcases a modern twist on the sound, a more bassline driven take on the typically breakbeat rhythm, featuring some of the most forward thinking producers of the past few years.
What is surprising about the resurgence in this sound is the how producers from a variety of scenes have looked to put their own twist on the sound. Artists from the Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Breakbeat, UK Funky, House and Techno scenes are all going a little bit old skool on us.

A refreshing take on a classic British sound, with Vesper showcasing the best of the best. Enjoy and cherish this one, it's a corker!

MUMDANCE

Earlier this year we introduced you to the fantastic up and coming London producer, Mumdance... Otherwise known to the world as Jack Adams.

Any budding MCs out there should take advantage of jumping on this while it's still hot!

He recently released his debut EP on Diplo's Mad Decent, titled the Mum Decent EP, with full support and praise across the board from DJs in the Dubstep, Grime and Funky scenes.

He's taken one of the most recognisable samples from the UKG world (none other than So Solid Crew's 21 Seconds) and transformed it into a cheeky little Grime/Funky number, which we're able to bring you as a FREE download today.

Definitely keep an eye on this man, he has a forthcoming release with No Hats, No Hoods on the way with collaborations from Trim, Boy Better Know and Jammer... Not one to miss!

DIZZ & DRAZ

Today we've a special bootleg treat for you from down under. A production duo by the name of Dizz & Draz who've reworked the legendary Barbara Streisand into a Drum and Bass monster.

Dizz and Draz hail from Surry Hills in Australia and have been making beats together for just over a year. In that short space of time they've received praise and support from the likes of B. Rich, Jayou, Dem Slackers, Tittsworth, as well as Radio 1 airplay from bass king Kissy Sell Out.

They've also been fortunate enough to play alongside Scottie B, Shadow Dancer, Djedotronic, Mikix The Cat, Kill The Noise and The Bang Gang.

They're currently in the studio working on their original production but have been able to supply the world with a taste of the musical spectrum in the form of several tasty remixes, this being one of the best, with a reworking of the original and Sigma's heavy remix. Perfect house party flavour.

REDLIGHT

Many of you regular UTR heads should be familiar with the sounds of Redlight by now, formally as DJ Clipz a veteran of the Drum and Bass scene, Redlight turned his attention to 130-140bpm tempo music and quickly found himself a niche within todays UK Bass scene.

Effortless fusing the modern sounds of Dubstep, UK Funky, Electro, Grime and some Breakbeat on the side, he's earned the respect of many clubbers throughout the country.

His Lobster Boy EP dropped at the fall of last year, and since then he's gone on to produce music with the likes of Roses Gabor, Ms Dynamite and Mz Bratt. He's formed a collaborative partnership with Steel City's Toddla T as The Roller Express and he's also churned out top remixes for the likes of Donae'o, Kano, Kelly Rowland, Magnetic Man and Zarif with devastating results.
KID CUDI

Another free download for you from Kid Cudi who you all know of course from the enigmatic Day n Nite, a release remixed to startling effect by Crookers back in 2008 on A-Trak's Fools Gold label, and which reached #2 in the UK Charts in 2009 as a 'vs.' single release on Data Records.

He then went on to work with Kanye West, Emile, MGMT and Ratatat for his debut album Man On The Moon: The End of Day last year. Since blowing up over here and in America, he's kept his profile sky high, with sell out shows all over the place, and the release of his latest single with Kanye, Erase Me going into the Top 30 over in the US.

Next week will see the release of his second studio album Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager... A title which is as baffling as the last. He's got collaborations on board with Mary J. Blige, Nicole Ray and Cee-Lo Green... As well as another track with his partner in musical crime, Kanye.

With 17 tracks on the LP, fans are in for a real treat, with Cudi suggesting he's taken on a new direction this time around with some rockier influences as well as some straight up club numbers.

You can grab a sneak preview below of his new material with a free download of Marijuana from the album, which was produced by Kanye.
A great little chilled number.
SMUTLEE

Today I've got a cute little blend for you, couresy of one of London's best kept bass secrets in Smutlee, a DJ who for years has been crafting his own special niche of bass music, which takes in the sounds and influences of Funky, Bashment, RnB, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Dubstep and everything in between.

Having been in the DJing game for over a decade, Smutlee has managed to earn the respect from DJs and promoters across the musical spectrum. In the past he's been invited to guest mix for the likes of London superclub Fabric and the pioneering print trendsetter Vice Magazine.

He's also worked for a number of major brands in the past with performances in an Addias TV Commercial, a Puma Catwalk Show, the Maharishi Store Opening and an American Apparel.
It is this credibility that has earned Smutlee shows across the globe, with a recent tour of Australia being a career highlight.

This week we're featuring US dubstep producer 12th Planet's recent showcase mix for Mishka, London Dancehall king Smutlee's latest bass offering , and a live set from Afrojack's recent performance @ the Top 100 DJs awards @ Ministry of Sound last week.

Let's kick things off with dubstep's 12th Planet.

A Producer most well known as the head honcho of Smog Records out in LA, California. A well respected DJ in his own right and a firm favourite with the likes of Breakage, Skream, Jack Beats and Rusko.

After touring the world as Drum & Bass maestro Infiltrata, and winning over icons such as Goldie, Photek, and DJ Craze, John Dadzie gave himself a new name, sound, and mission. He's been spinning on a dubstep hype since 2005, when the scene was still a distant underground memory in the UK. He helped to mould a following for the sound over on America's West Coast and has been responsible for some of the most iconic dubstep releases from the other side of the Atlantic.

Featuring on remixes for Rusko's Hold On, Little Jinder's Youth Blood and Rye Rye's Sunshine. Unmistakably though, you'll know him best for his collaboration with Juakali, titled Reasons, which was remixed by Doctor P to devastation effect earlier this year. Scion AV recently comissioned a music video for the remix, check it out below.

He was recently asked to compile a mix for New York City's bass fashion guru's Mishka, a clothing brand synonymous with everything current in the bass music world. I hope you enjoy his mix.

A1 Bassline

A little bit of a break from us here at UTR. Sales have been manic in the past week for all UTR nights nationwide. Bigup if you've bought a ticket to any of our nights across the UK, next week is going to be massive!

We thought we'd take some time out from all the hard work to give you some little special treats, the FREE downloads will be coming thick and fast this week as we get ready to batter soundsystems nationwide. First up we have London producer, A1 Bassline.

A1 Bassline, also known as Christian began his music career back in his teens as one half of the Nu-Rave duo Partyshank along with his partner in crime who you now know as one half of dubstep producers, Tek-One.
Their music was a psychedelic mis-match of 8-bit party beats, similar in vein to the likes of Hadouken!, Tapedeck, Simian Mobile Disco, Zombie Disco Squad and other post-electro, pre-dubstep acts, which made up the majority of my nights out during my teens.

As Partyshank, they never actually released any music, under any kind of record label, but still managed commanded a huge fan base across the UK, thanks in part to the blogosphere during 2007-2008, which broke many of today's big acts like Crookers, Jack Beats and Fake Blood. Their myspace page standing at almost 2 million views.

They gained support from the biggest names in the game at the time, with Penis vs. Vagina, (the best name for a track ever) becoming a huge favourite for Justice in their DJ sets all over the world. Other popular originals included Gary and Virgin, as well as their remixes of Glamour for Better and Late of the Pier.

A1 Bassline was born out of the death of that scene during 2008, when a lot of people had moved onto the Fidget-House scene, and A1 did not disappoint with his talents under this guise, quickly making a name for himself with his remixes, quickly signing to Southern Fried Records... Fatboy Slim's label.

His, Bad Man Horror Theme EP, quickly became a favourite among DJs in the UK scene, with 80h8 becoming a big favourite for me.
He has also gone on to remix the likes of Little Boots, Yo Majesty, Frank Musik, Example, Esser and The Qemists.

Earlier this year he released his Breathless EP on Southern Fried, and has been consistantly smashing up clubs and festivals all year with his trademark bass sound, which takes in influences from Electro, UK Funky, Dubstep, Garage and other bass lead UK sounds.

He recently hooked up with Tek-One and Kavsrave to form a new record label, titled Tighten Up Records with a huge selection of releases planned for 2011. Each producer gave away a free track to promote the release of the labels first pressing, you can grab A1 Bassline's contribution below, a UK Funky monster with possible the best sample of the year, and we'll be bringing you Tek-One's contribution later this week ;).

Keep an eye on A1 Bassline, he has future collaborations forthcoming with Foamo and Example.

Marger rose to prominence last year, featuring on Rude Kid's UFO Mode and he has also collaborated with some of Grime's best up and coming talent in Rival, Little Nasty and Knashers.

Mz Bratt + Greenmoney

Today we've got a top exclusive download for you with Greenmoney's new remix of Mz Bratt's new single out this week on Soul 2 Streets, which was produced earlier this year by man of the moment, Redlight.
The single effortlessly fuses elements of UK Funky, Jungle, Electro, Grime, Garage and Dubstep all into one sound and it really highlights the diversity of the UK scene in 2010.

If any of you were present @ our last UTR in London a couple of weeks ago you'll have been treated to a live performance of this tune from Mz Bratt on the night during her set with Mistajam.

Others may also have heard Redlight dropping the Greenmoney remix in his closing set on the night, too.

Greenmoney have really taken things to the next level with the UK Funky sound we've come accustomed to in the past couple of years, but with a harsh new drum pattern and a 90s rave hook on an insane new tip.
Expect this remix to be smashing up dancefloors up and down the country for months to come.

Here's a special offering from us @ UTR Events, cherish it well.

First up is the multi-talented DJ and Producer... Zinc, known to friends as Ben.

Having been at the top of the game now for 15 years, it's hard to comprehend and make sense of the splendid career that he has had so far. Having released EPs and 12"s under a variety of labels, aliases and covering a mixture of styles and sounds, its very hard to pin this East London bass pioneer down to one particular scene.

Back in 1994, Zinc helped form the collaborative trio The Ganja Kru along with DJ Hype and Pascal. After releasing a 12" on DJ Hype's now defunct Ganja Records, they set to some hard studio work and in 1995 , released the Super Sharp Shooter EP, which went on to be the biggest Jungle/Drum n Bass release of the year and it solidified DJ Zinc as a force to be reckoned with. To this day, many are still under the illusion that that the track Super Sharp Shooter, was a DJ Zinc production, such was the status of the man at the time.

A year later he also helped along with Hype and Pascal form the Drum and Bass label True Playaz, a label which has been synonymous with everything Drum and Bass since, and one which later this year will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary year of their residency @ Fabric.

During the next few years Zinc went on to release Drum and Bass 12"s on the likes of Global Thang and Frontline Records as well as his native Playaz. Anthems such as Reach Out and It's Like That, helped sustain his reputation beyond UK borders to mainland Europe and the far east of Japan in particular.

As the end of the 20th Century drew nearer Zinc retreated to the studio and began to experiment with other styles and tempos of music, including helping to form the building blocks for a new experimental sound which comes originally from the Breakbeat template, but with a slightly more 2-Step feel (a term that would not end up being referred to until the early 2000s as UK Garage.

The result of that period of time saw a huge shift for the UK music scene, with London taking prominence over Madchester (Manchester) as the capital of underground music. Along with artists such as MJ Cole, 187 Lockdown, Todd Edwards, Double 99, Zed Bias broke away from the traditional sounds of the time, creating their own (dubbier) House music sound.

In 1999, Zinc released his Beats By Design EP, a release which included a track titled, 138 Trek. A track which would go on to represent the sound we now know today as UK Garage.

138 Trek was re-released in 2000 on experimental new label Phaze:One, an exponent of True Playaz. To date, there have been no releases on Phaze:One, which you could comment meant the label had served it's 'purpose', but that conversation is for another day.

Moving on through 2001 and 2002 and Zinc took to producing under a variety of other names, most notabley his Jammin alias, under which he released the classics Go DJ , Kinda Funky and the track above Hello.
Classic tunes that will go on to be treasured for many years for the sheer originality and tightness of production style.

One aspect of Zinc's production that has always impressed me, is the Bass. It's not over thought in anyway and it's not constructed to stab you in the face. It's soul purpose is to create a dynamic rhythm within the sound-scape. A skill that few producers today have been able to master well.

Zinc setup his own label, Bingo Beats in 2001 to release his own material under the Jammin alias, and for a number of years has promoted up and coming Drum and Bass producers, including the likes of Chase & Status, Shy FX, Menta, Jenna G, Lomax, Sigma and DKay. Skream has also released remixes under the Bingo Beats imprint in the past.

Zinc continued to dominate the Drum and Bass market throughout the mid 2000s, with Bingo Beats at the forefront of the scene throughout this period.

After a short hiatus from the UK scene, Zinc returned to DJing at the start of 2009 and began promoting a new sound, which he coined as Crack House. The history of this sound is perhaps one of the shortest, most whimsical ever, but it serves as a statement about the fragile nature of the way genres and scenes are labelled.

Zinc was touring Japan along with Dynamite MC at the start of 2009, confused about how to advertise his new sound, unwilling to simplify his status to the just house music. Whilst sitting down for lunch with Dynamite MC, he brought up the conversation and Dynamite pointed to a store, which was called Crack House, and the rest as they say is history.

You will know the tune above as Blunt Edge, but it also formed the basis for Wile Out, Zinc's 2010 Top 40 hit with Ms Dynamite which cemented the come back of both artists from the depths of UK Garage and into the modern day underground of British music, which has been dominated by the likes of UK Funky an Dubstep in recent years.

Zinc once again showed, that you can make a great tune, without over thinking the bass. He instead opted for a more minimalistic vibe, with Ms Dynamite taking care of the rest.
A fifteen year career, brought full circle. It is 2010 and Zinc has once again produced a fantastic tune, which could be said to be the very definition of a rinse out.

To begin out close to this feature, we have a showcase here that represents Zinc's classic old skool sound from his recorded set for the closing nights of The End nightclub back in January last year, the last Drum and Bass night ever to take place at the iconic venue. A set full of old vibes and time honoured classics. The tracklisting was never published, and therefore slightly unfinished.

DJ Zinc @ The End's Closing Weekend

Before I leave you contemplating the career of this talented individual, I will leave you with one of my favourite tune of the year, Bounce Up, which was released as part of Zinc's Crack House Vol. 2 EP, earlier this summer. It is an utter banger, enjoy.

Zinc - Bounce Up

There is definitely one prime conclusion to make from Zinc's career so far, a summary that highlights Zinc as a founding father for what we call UK Music today.
Back in 2008 Zinc was selected that year along with The Beatles and The Sex Pistols to be curated for his achievements and contributions to British music by being included in a permanent exhibition in London's O2 Arena which outlines a chronology (diary of events) that has led to the evolution of contemporary music.
Not bad for someone who originally began fiddling with sequencers, and synthesis hardware in his youth in his bedroom.

In other words, UTR would not be the same without this man.

The hype surrounding the project has been simply overwhelming, even to me. I run a weekly dubstep/dnb night back in Dartford, which takes place upstairs in room 2 of my local club. It was my regular that I worshipped during the first two summers after I turned 18, the place where it was acceptable to play Mr. Brightside at 1:59am and walk home with a girl you had met 5 minutes previous to that moment.
I never thought I would see the day where I would hear a tune like I Need Air, being played in the main (commercial) room of a venue that until very recently would not be seen dead inside of.
Understanding what producers like Skream have done for British music and the clubbing scene as a whole in the past five years is sometimes hard to take in. Sure there will always be hate for such a rise to prominence for Dubstep, but so long as Skream carries on producing fine examples of the sound such as What Did He Say, then I will carry on trawling websites and hunting record shops for such sounds.

First up this week we have an awesome set from Dubstep producer Kulture who is widely known to be one of Skream's favourite producers. I've had the pleasure of playing with Kulture as he joined me on the mic at Surrey university last year along with the rest of his Presha crew. Many don't know he's a pretty good MC, as well as an equally talented DJ and producer. This is the 62nd edition of the Get Darker TV podcast, and a very welcome addition to a blossoming series... Get locked!
