			<title>Learning in Large Classes: Designing Outcomes, Supporting Engagement, and Assigning and Responding to Student Work</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Thursday, May, 21, 09:00 am - 12:15 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> In this workshop designed for faculty who are (re)designing courses in response to increased class size, we will explore how core learning outcomes can be tied to a variety of strategies to encourage student engagement with course material.  We’ll begin with activities that will identify the central assumptions and activities for our courses, and will move into interactive pedagogies that can direct students’ energy to where it matters most.  We’ll end the workshop by exploring options for assigning writing and options for grading and responding to writing.<br /><p>

			<title>Learning in Large Classes: Student Interaction</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Thursday, May, 21, 1:00 - 3:15 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> In this workshop designed for faculty who are (re)designing courses in response to increased class size, we will focus on in-class strategies that direct students’ attention to the most important course materials and themes. Beginning with reflection on the fundamental course aims, we’ll explore pedagogical strategies that keep communication flowing in large classes.  We’ll look at strategies for keeping students engaged during class, and consider how these strategies will promote relationships between students and faculty and among students.<br /><p>

			<title>“Do-It-Yourself“: Course Media Workshop</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Thursday, May, 14, 1:00 - 2:30 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> Do copyright woes have you down? Worry not! Create your own media materials for class and never worry about copyright concerns again. Join us for a talk on user generated content, along with hands-on exploration of ”DIY“ media resources. Participants will explore different resources (both hardware and software) that they can use to record and produce their own materials for use in class or in an online course. During the workshop participants will get an overview of some popular applications for screencasting and user-friendly video production, as well as tools like the Flip MiniHD Camcorder and portable audio recorders.<br />

			<title>Blackboard Wikis and Blogs</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Wednesday, May, 13, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> Blackboard allows you to create multiple wikis and blogs within your course. Wikis are a collaborative writing environment, and blogs are a journaling tool. These features can be used for student writing, collaborative projects, individual journals, organizing research, or a number of other creative assignments.<br>

In this workshop we will examine several wikis to gain a sense of their potential use. We will write in both a wiki and a blog to learn the mechanics of using these tools, and will see how they are created in Blackboard. More importantly, we will explore and discuss how these tools can be used for a variety of assignments and projects<br />

			<title>Telling Stories the Digital Way</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Monday, April, 20, 2:00 - 4:00 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> Digital storytelling is a relatively new art form that combines personal narrative and memoir with images and music to create short (3-5 minute) video reflections.  Digital stories are used in a multitude of  ways, such as creating autobiographical sketches, improving writing, visual and technological literacy, articulating personal philosophies, and documenting historical events.

This session will introduce you to the world of digital storytelling.  You’ll learn the elements of a digital story and view a variety of examples that illustrate where and how digital storytelling is being used in education and social service agencies.   We’ll also explore ideas how to use digital storytelling in your teaching.<br>

			<title>Student Response Systems: Clickers in the Classroom</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Wednesday, April, 1, 3:15 - 4:15 pm</b><br /><b><i>Colleague Tea:</i></b> Personal Response Units (i.e., "Clickers") are small hand-held devices, similar to a TV remote control, that can enhance student interaction in the classroom. Faculty have used clickers to poll student on controversial issues, get instant feedback on student understanding of concepts presented during lecture, give quizzes, and take attendance. This session demonstrates the iClicker brand, a radio frequency model that is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. <br />Co-facilitated by Larry Rudiger, Psychology Department<br />

with a documented disability.  Universal Design For Learning (UDL)
outlines course development and teaching strategies that will not only
meet the needs of those students, but will also enhance learning for
all students. Join us for a discussion on applying UDL principles and
strategies to meet our diverse student needs related to physical and
cognitive ability, social class, primary language, ethnicity and
culture.

			<title>Multicultural Education at UVM: Dialogue on Dimensions</title>
			<description><![CDATA[<b>Monday, March, 30, 12:00 - 1:30 pm</b><br /><b><i>Workshop:</i></b> UVM’s Diversity Requirement seeks to advance multicultural education at the curricular level. During this colloquium, faculty who are teaching approved Diversity 1 and 2 courses will examine their courses through the lens of Dr. James Banks’ “dimensions of multicultural education,” discussing content integration, knowledge construction, prejudice reduction and equity pedagogy. <p>Panelists include: Paul Kindstedt, Nutrition & Food Sciences; Josie Herrera, CEM Dean's Office; Paul Besaw, Music; Alec Ewald, Political Science; Susan Ryan, Integrated Prof. Studies. The panel will be moderated by Cynthia Forehand, Anatomy & Neurobiology and Ex-officio of the Diversity Curriculum Review Committee.

The workshop will include information on preparing a conference-level PowerPoint presentation, information about how to present yourself professionally, and how to speak well. You will learn what is required to prepare a conference poster and will have the chance to ask questions about how to proceed with your poster or presentation.<br />
