The girls will learn how waves and sounds impact day to day life through earthquakes, music, and vibrations. They will be doing hands-on activities including attempting to build a structure that can withstand a simulated earthquake.

Catalyst is a program focused on helping you develop your path, connect to groups and causes you care about, and commit to a plan to be a catalyst for yourself and the groups you’re a part of. Through professionally-facilitated small-group dialogue, large-group interaction, and personal reflection, you will learn alongside other students in the College of Engineering who are committed to making a difference. The program will help you gain valuable knowledge and skills that can be beneficial throughout college and your future career, and is a good addition to your resume. In the spring semester the selected scholars will visit a campus, meet with students and faculty, and present a 40-45 minute research seminar to undergraduate students and faculty.  This will be an opportunity for the scholar to practice interview skills and to learn about careers at primarily undergraduate institutions.  The host faculty and undergraduates will benefit by meeting young women scientists doing interesting research projects, and learning about how scientific research is done at major research institutions.
