Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros have just premiered their new song “Better Days” on Soundcloud! The track will appear on the band’s forthcoming self-titled third studio album out July 23rd via our friends at Community Music. “These songs mean everything to me,” said frontman Alex Ebert who produced the album. “It’s the rawest, most liberated, most rambunctious stuff we’ve done.” Stream the new song below.

The upcoming 10-track effort captures a newly reignited energy from frontman Zach Rogue and primary creative collaborator Pat Spurgeon. The songs recall the band’s indie-rock and folk-like tendencies from its first three albums-2003’s Out Of The Shadow (re-released in 2004), 2005’s Descended Like Vultures, and 2007’s Asleep At Heaven’s Gate-but also included an experimental edge that the members have always been interested in but never really explored on record. Rogue Wave’s Nightingale Floors is secure in its sound and brimming with confidence.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros today announced the release of their forthcoming third studio album. The self-titled offering will be released in the U.S. and Canada on July 23rd via Community Music and everywhere else on July 29th. We are very excited to welcome Yorkshire, UK’s Fossil Collective to the Vagrant roster! The band’s debut album Tell Where I Lie is now available in the US through a partnership between Vagrant and Dirty Hit Records. The album was released on April 8, 2013 and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s New Artist chart as well as at #2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Tell Where I Lie has received international critical acclaim for the group’s layers of rich harmonies and delicately melodic contemporary sounds. Fossil Collective formed in 2011 and consists of multi-instrumentalists David Fendick and Jonny Hooker. “We were listening to the kind of music we grew up with (Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor),” Jonny reminisces. “We decided there and then to try and capture the essence of that traditional song craft, to strip everything back to the song, lyrics and melody.” Added Dave, “it was actually very liberating to be able to do that.”

Fossil Collective will be touring throughout North America beginning in late May supporting The Boxer Rebellion. Dates begin in Montreal on May 23 and currently wrap in Cambridge, Mass. on June 22. The band is currently wrapping up a 21-date UK tour with festival appearances scheduled for later this summer.

Rogue Wave to Release Nightingale Floors on June 4th, Premiere New Song "College"

We are thrilled to announce that Rogue Wave will release their fifth studio album, Nightingale Floors, on June 4 via Vagrant. This release follows the band’s 2010 album Permalight and the debut track from the album, titled “College,” can be heard on Soundcloud or below.

The brainchild of Zach Schwartz (aka Zach Rogue) Rogue Wave formed in 2002 in Oakland, CA. While the line-up has changed from album to album the two constants have always been Zach and drummer Pat Spurgeon. Nightingale Floors finds the group secure in its sound and brimming with confidence. The result can only be described as a triumphant return to form.

Meditations on life and death dominate Nightingale Floors, in large part because Rogue’s father passed away during the writing of the record. But far from being a downer, Rogue has used the experience to find peace and, ultimately, happiness in facing up to the short time we have on Earth and appreciate everything around him. Much has been written about Rogue Wave’s misfortune over the years, and it’s true that for such a nice bunch of guys, they certainly have had their fair share of bad luck. Rogue points out, “Everyone has drama in their life. Everyone’s experienced life and death and injury. Maybe us a little bit more, I don’t know. I’ve always joked with Pat: ‘Everything is trying to kill us, but we’re still here.’”

Rogue Wave tapped Release The Sunbird’s mixer John Congleton (whose impressive résumé includes Modest Mouse, The Walkmen, David Byrne & St. Vincent, and Explosions In The Sky) to produce the record just north of Oakland at Cotati’s Prairie Sun Recording Studios. With the assistance of touring bassist Masanori Mark Christianson, Peter Wolf Crier’s Peter Pisano (guitar), Sea Of Bees’ Jules Baenziger (vocals), and Mwahaha’s Ross Peacock (synth manipulation), Rogue, Spurgeon, and Christianson channeled their energies into 10 smart, dynamic songs that range from opener “No Magnatone” and its dreamy washes of sound to the big, catchy rock of “College” to the gentle “The Closer I Get” to the moody yet epic closer “Everyone Wants To Be You.” The music is as thoughtfully conceived as you’d expect from Rogue Wave, and there’s an emotional energy behind the tracks that lingers on long after the album’s last note.

“The thing I like about the new album is I can envision playing all of the songs live,” says Rogue. “For Permalight, it was like, ‘How will we do this?’ That’s not a good sign. For this, it’s like, ‘How are we going to play all of them?’ And that’s exciting.”
