Country engagement session | Lindsay & Jordan

Lindsay and Jordan are getting married this summer. For their photo session, we visited a quiet property in the country just outside of Vancouver. It was a serene setting for some wonderful photos of just the two of them. Jordan did us a big favour by bringing his hat, which we though was not just stylish, but also timeless. My favourite photographs were the ones by the river – the subtle colour tones and river-side tranquillity brought out something special about them. Cherry Blossom Engagement Session | Tanya + Joseph

Joe and Tanya are getting married later this year in the Rivera Maya, Mexico, but for their engagement session, Tanya really wanted to make sure she took advantage of the beautiful sakura blossoms we get here in Vancouver, so we found a great place for cherry blossoms this Spring and spent a couple of hours hanging around a couple of trees and other beautiful local features creating some wonderful photos with this beautiful couple.

Rocky Point Engagement Session | Jane + Jason

Here’s a fun engagement session with Jane and Jason at Rocky Point Park. We started early on a cloudy Vancouver day and missed the crowds of families that almost always take over the park in spring and summer. With early Spring usually comes Japanese sakura blossoms (cherry blossoms) all over Metro Vancouver and Port Moody was no exception. The train station looked gorgeous as usual, and so different from the hoards of kiddies that were there just a week before for their annual Easter celebrations. We chose Rocky Point because it’s a local and familiar place for Jason and Jane, and Jason showed me a pretty awesome fish and chips place at the park, which for some reason, I have never tried despite visiting the park on many occasions in the past. Like all good engagement session, we just had to capture a little of their personality, so we had a several fun moments, including one in which Jane and Jason shared a little Pajo’s gourmet on a park picnic table. I tried some myself and now know why Jason revealed that it sometimes times, it takes 45 minutes or more to get your order during the summer. Them were some good fish n chips! I wonder if there will be any at the wedding?

English Bay Engagement Session | Desiree + Brian Vol 1

It was another beautiful Spring weekend in Vancouver. We started a little earlier than usual and found a relatively quiet sea wall and beach in downtown Vancouver. We walked along False Creek and found a small urban grove of Cherry Blossom trees in early bloom. Naturally, we had to take some photos around those gorgeous Vancouver Cherry Blossoms before heading off to English Bay, where Desiree and Brian enjoyed a little snack by the water.

Beach side Engagement session | Jessica + Brian

Here is a tranquil and timeless beach-side engagement session from this past Easter weekend. It was a beautiful Spring afternoon at the beach with Jessica and Brian. Finally, sunny mild weather – the kind of weather we’ve been craving for some time in Vancouver. Coffee, Jiu-jitsu, and The Real Housewives of Vancouver are just a few topics that arose as we enjoyed a pleasant walk with beautiful views of the water, mountains, and quiet beach around us. Brock House Restaurant Wedding | Jen + Daniel

We had the privilege of spending a day at Jen and Daniel’s wedding this past March. It was a rainy late Winter day in Vancouver, but the damp weather didn’t spoil the wonderful wedding celebration that they planned together. Their wedding ceremony began at Unity Church Vancouver. Jen and her bridesmaids were given a rather roomy, but comfortable bridal room just downstairs from the main place of worship. One of my favourite moments of the day was when Jen’s dad handed over her hand to Daniel. There was something about how he gave her away that was touching and special. We later took photos by the sea wall, and fortunately, the rain stopped just enough for us to take a few photos on the beach before driving to the Brock House Restaurant at Point Grey for their wedding reception.

Country Farm House Engagement Session | Laura + Sean Vol 1

We had a great weekend photographing some cool couples on the first full week of Spring. Another session we did was at a country farm house with Laura and Sean. Sunday afternoon began with clear skies, but the slight overcasting of the sun later on that day did nothing to affect the beautiful portraits we created starring Laura and Sean. We just love it when our clients allow us to suggest locations for photo sessions. In this case, the location worked out perfectly because it offered a quiet and relaxed atmosphere with unique vintage features.

I can’t say enough how wonderful they were with the camera. They looked brilliant and relaxed, which made it so easy to capture these intimate moments with the two of them. Thanks to Melanie of Mink Make-up and Hair for the make-up work. Here are some photos from the day.

Gastown engagement session | Angela + Greg Vol 1

This past weekend was a great start to the Spring season here in Vancouver. Bright sunny days and cool weather filled the streets of Vancouver’s Gastown, but we managed to find a few quiet locations for Angela and Greg’s engagement session. Amoung the handful of places we visited was the Water St. Cafe, where Greg and Angela had their first date. It was cool to take photos in front of the restaurant knowing the significance of it. We also wandered around the back ally and found this shopping cart waiting for us to doing something fun with it! Jacqueline was there to help and we were impressed by Greg and Angela’s knowledge of good restaurants around town. I’m definitely going to have to try some of those locations they mentioned. The photo session was nothing but good times with a great couple! We’re looking forward to photographing their Vancouver wedding later this year.

Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and Brock House Wedding | Michelle + Roberto

Rob + Michelle were married last fall at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parish in East Vancouver and their reception was held at the charming and very popular Brock House Restaurant at Point Grey. As Vancouver wedding photographers, we’re obsessive about weather reports, especially those in the Autumn wedding season. So it was to our pleasant surprise that the day started off sunny and stayed dry almost all day long. The bad weather stayed away just long enough for Michelle and Rob to have a beautiful September wedding with a mix of clear skies and soft overcast light.

After the wedding ceremony in Vancouver, we got to know the wedding party fairly well during the photo sessions that afternoon. Daniel discovered that one of Michelle’s bridesmaids was a friend of a previous d’Soleil bride and that some of the groomsmen, who also grew up in Daniel’s old East Vancouver neighbourhood, even knew some of Daniel’s old high school friends. This made spending the afternoon with the wedding party just like kicking back with old friends at a wedding.

In the evening, they held a Portuguese and Italian-style wedding reception at the Brock House, which meant lots of really good food, a relaxed family atmosphere, lots of love, photos, and both fun and heartfelt speeches that painted a beautiful picture of Michelle and Rob’s life before they met and while they were dating. There were many emotional moments, especially during the speeches from the couple’s immediate family and closest friends. The evening unfolded beautifully and we have to express just how much we loved Michelle and Rob’s impressive wedding decor – they have excellent taste and a talent for decorating. The flower arrangements and table settings were exquisite and that beautiful wedding cake was divine. Michelle and Rob also made a contribution to the BC Cancer Foundation on behalf of their wedding guests, which was so kind of them. The wedding celebrations lasted late into the evening and it was another wedding we really enjoyed being a part of. Congratulations again Michelle + Rob!
