If music of love the food, the eternally headphoned set should be hypothetical stocked with sweethearts come Monday. Hypothetical.

Even if you are connected to the hip on the 14th, that doesn’t mean you can hear some romantic jams – and quiet cry in your half empty box of chocolates.

Here is seven playlists for your romantic mood – whether it be bitter or sweet – including a list by the swoony Mashable staff replete with jams handpicked.

The best era for romantic comedies were (semi-raunchy) – the 80s probably so some pink, get yourself looking pretty and these jams pump up to that wild dance party to throw during planning ‘ rent outside the city. (Just make sure to the curiosities stored away in the basement so that your mother for the Hummel collection of harm’s way.)

Country songs are all about love! And tractors. Advertises or agriculture (or both) is this V’day, this station to your achy breaky heart drumming.

Love ain’t nothing without a soul, free downloadable mix of New York’s best DJ, Mr Jonathan Toubin is why we are including. Download and dance – even when you scare away the honey with your not so-sick moves.

Once again Amazon comes through with the sans fees. It is a song by Ginuwine (not “pony”, unfortunately), so you know it’s good.

For candles, roses and champagne cadre – here is some elegant classic from Rhapsody. Listen without paying during your free trial, or prune roses and instead buy a subscription.

In our humble opinion, there is no better gift than a mixtape – it is painstakingly conceived personal, and much less embarrassing, carry around than a huge pink Teddy bear.

Vevo holds a contest saccharin season to a personalized V’ to find day playlist feature on their homepage on the 14th. If your object digs music affection (or intensive stem age), suggest we show him (and Vevo throughout) care you said by entering contest.

Edison’s inventions our world have shaped the bulb, the phonograph, the motion picture camera and its hundreds of other patents.

And today, February 11, the inventor and scientist is celebrated on Google homepage with a special Doodle what would be its 164th birthday.

The Doodle shows animated sketches of some of these inventions, including a glowing bulb and whirring type writing machine. The handful of the Edison-inspired sketches in the Doodle patents are only a small fraction of the inventor.

Earlier this week Google Jules Verne’s birthday with an interactive Doodle celebrated.

The demise of print media is commonly attributed to the success of free, easily accessible digital media. However, some editors have embraced it as a way to enhance their magazines’ content and increase revenue.

We’ve compiled seven ways in which magazines are successfully employing social media to create an editorial journey for readers, rather than just a linear reading experience.

The proliferation of online content has led many publications to embrace collaboration and external content curation. Editors are striving to provide the most value to their readers in part by recommending articles from other sources and niche publications to follow, as well as by sharing links posted by their community.

On Twitter, magazines have begun to recognize that being seen as the authority in their field is more important than just tweeting their own content. Editors are occasionally retweeting external links that they find relevant to their community and using Twitter lists to suggest additional accounts worth following.

Tumblr, the platform recently touted as the print magazine messiah based on its (apparent) rescue of Newsweek, is also being used to curate content in the form of reblogging and “Tumblr Tuesday” recommendations. Newsweek, The Atlantic and The Huffington Post (the ultimate content curator) all reblog content from around the web on their Tumblogs. The result is a network of dynamic, interactive and ultra-relevant magazine outlets.

Magazines have always sought to understand their audience and cater to their interests. Now, savvy publications are using social media to harvest ideas based on feedback from their social media communities to efficiently craft future issues. By asking questions across social profiles, monitoring comments and measuring response rates, editors can measure their readers’ pulse more accurately than ever.

Some editors are even using social media as a direct source of content. The Travel + Leisure Facebook Page, for instance, wisely entices its fans with the opportunity to be featured in one of their favorite print publications while collecting quotes and content to plug into upcoming pieces.

The possibility of being featured in one of their favorite print publications entices fans to contribute online. Playboy Magazine’s #FriskyFriday takes reader contribution a step further, allowing female followers to submit nude or provocative images of themselves. Many other magazines encourage photo submissions via contests or prompt fans to respond to Facebook polls.

Beyond adding depth to upcoming issues and digital content, these publications have opened a regular dialogue and established a lasting relationship with their readers.

Magazines are invaluable sources of niche content thanks to their qualified staff, influential connections and collective knowledge. Some editors are providing their readers with the ability to connect with experts in real time via social media platforms. Food & Wine Magazine, for example, hosts periodical Twitter and Facebook chats in which fans and followers can speak to selected editors or chefs about recipes and dining tips. Conde Nast’s Traveler Magazine similarly encourages its followers to ask editors travel questions using Tumblr’s Ask feature.

Meanwhile, Lucky Magazine has created a Foursquare page with tips for shopping destinations that readers can access on-the-go from their smartphones. Spin Magazine created a musical scavenger hunt during last year’s SXSW festival, featuring band recommendations within the location-based application, for its most geeky followers.

By positioning themselves as the information destinations — with more than static articles — these magazines have become a part of their readers’ daily routines.

Knowing that friendships often evolve from similar interests, some magazines have taken to helping their community members meet and interact amongst themselves. Facebook and on-site communities are being optimized for conversation. Cosmopolitan Magazine, for example, promotes community member questions on their site via Facebook. This generates very personal comments and responses to and from Cosmo readers as members relate to each others’ experiences and offer advice.

Offline, Meetup.com offers the easiest and most relevant platform for forming connections around similar interests. Philosophy Now has built its own Meetup Everywhere page, encouraging readers to congregate across the U.S. and U.K. to discuss their favorite magazine-related topics.

The tactics adopted by these marketing-savvy publications generate relationships and conversations around their brand — on and offline.

While the average Twitter user has fewer than 350 followers, brands and well-known magazines spend time and money collecting large, relevant groups of thousands of followers. As a result, a tweet from a magazine such as Vogue has much larger amplification and will likely generate far more retweets and replies than that of an average user.

With the goal of adding value to their followers, some magazines are using their niche influence status to help users obtain the responses they need by retweeting questions.

Not only does this strengthen these magazines’ relationships with their readers, but it also positions them as the ultimate source for information — even when they merely act as conduits for that information.

With social media, magazines can add context and entertainment value to otherwise flat pieces of writing. Beyond text and images, stories may be enhanced with polls, videos, games, real-time chats, answers to tangential questions and a peek behind the scenes.

Cosmopolitan already has used Facebook games to entertain bored fans at work. Time allows its Facebook community members to create faux “Person of the Year” images to share with their friends.

Magazines have also begun to make use of the newest social media sweetheart, Instagram. National Geographic shares beautiful photos with the smartphone application, while Playboy uses it to share backstage moments.

Banner ads may still be the most common form of digital monetization for online magazines, but creative uses of social media profiles have increased opportunities for partners and advertisers. Sponsored Twitter backgrounds and tweets, as well as sponsored Facebook messages and landing tabs are a few ways in which magazines are taking advantage of their large social media audiences for direct revenue.

New startup SNAP starts Wednesday connect enterprise automatically points between your existing in-store loyalty programs and social media behavior of their customers to help. The SNAP-service is now to have more than a year of tasti D-Lite piloted became commercially available.

Checks after deployment “SNAP’s patented technology implicitly” the customer its configured are social networks, every time when a transaction takes place. The platform enables businesses, customers with points, badges, discounts and the like for social sharing the in-store activity to Facebook, to reward Twitter and foursquare automatically back.

SNAP exists as a business layer that sits on top social channels. The system integrates with foursquare, Twitter and Facebook APIs, but it has own that allow server level store integration not only fast, but enable also SNAP to receive and track transaction data in real-time APIs.

Organizations can configure badges – trophies, stamps, kudos or reward in this sense – and users for specific chain of transaction or social activities. The system is challenging enough current levels of activity to understand, i.e. a company could configure a kind of “gold status” that would be lost if the customer do not keep a certain threshold activity.

In the system that comes with a charge per month for the participating companies is detailed reports that contain “Checkins” per month, week, day or hour tracked, then be segmented by social network. A company might use this data to its most socially active or inactive hours, and then run then determine actions accordingly, says CEO David Gossman.

Customers can register for the physical to digital company loyalty programs through branded SNAP sites, and earned their social networks for automatic posting, configure checkout badge and can see how you stack up against other customer activity leaderboards.

Brands run the SNAP platform even hook up with each other can offer patrons extra rewards, points or badge based on their combined activities. A user could theoretically a special for dining out at healthy restaurant and working out three times in the same week, for example unlock. While yet futuristic is the only brand in nature – tasti D-Lite, with the system at startup – the technology can support these kinds of cross-branded incentives today.

“Companies are naturally hesitant to spend money, but you probably spend more money when you bring in money, are”, says Gossman. “We are incentivizing and right together with the existing behavior on transaction-level loyalty programmes play this companies already have in place.”

SNAP started life as an incubated product computerized point of sale software maker PcAmerica, an early in tasti D-Lite test partner found. SNAP was later as a separate entity spun and grown in a product sophisticated and flexible.

Start interest from a number of parties have money but has warhead and seeks to increase an undisclosed amount of venture capital in the coming months.

Earlier this month, Mozilla announced “do not track” to implement in Firefox 4. Raised in August 2010 lists “Do not track” in the main lets users opt out of tracking by advertisers through cookies and other browser based methods, the FTC behavior.

“If the feature is enabled and users turn it on, websites tells Firefox a user wants, OBA, deselect” Mozilla privacy lead Alex Fowler said in a current blog post. “We believe the header approach on the potential for the Web to be better long term because it a clearer and more universal opt-Out mechanism as cookies or blacklists.”

Mozilla argues that the HTTP header approach to websites sends a universal opt-Out signal. You can check out the technical details, if for you interesting, but the same goal: allow users to tell advertisers that you don’t want, for the purposes of targeted advertising are tracked.

The development of Firefox 4 is nearing the finish line. Firefox 4 beta 10 release was two weeks ago, and it should not be long until a release candidate makes his debut.

Reddit has some small but significant personnel today changes announced, us the big picture for the little link-sharing app thinking that could cause.

As longtime rival Digg takes a titanic like nosedive in the icy waters of the Internet, bleeding staff along the way, goes swimmingly reddit claims.

Today is the small team which was acquired in 2006 by publishing behemoth Condé Nast, has just announced a few new hires and says it is more engineers rent soon. The enterprise back end engineer and a new sales rep, and a few Redditors who work part-time agents now include a new.

But perhaps you remember things were not so rosy for reddit in the very recent past. Only six months ago the site was forced to keep freemium model in the business. At that time wrote reddit member Mike Schiraldi

“If this topic on the site, a comment about how reddit is someone always posts owned by Conde Nast, a billion dollar Corporation… and engineers and buy a million dollar heavy iron as if you wanted a thousand could set.” But here’s the thing: companies are run like charities. You keep separate budgets for each business line and usually allocate resources proportionally to sales. And Reddit’s revenue is not high.

Clearly, times have changed since these words were written in the past year. For one thing, the freemium features German reddit were gold, a great success.

Since then the site also grew by more than a billion page views per month. This figure represented a 300% Year-Over year rise.

This type of traffic growth has helped the site “Big-ticket” attracting advertisers, according to site Admins; an another growing source of revenue is the site sponsored link system that is used by small and medium enterprises to promote startups, blog posts, YouTube videos and other types of content. And Reddit still gold to be success.

It is interesting to note, this company – which no doubt was the same level of lemming-like traffic to publisher sites like Digg – successfully also like Digg stalled device less than Digg, where was the staff concerned and which never went. Perhaps this is a real-life example of a slower, steadier Web app, to win the race.

Apple’s manufacturing partners are already hard at work on the new model of the iPad, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The fact that Apple iPad to one 2 works, of course is general knowledge. The famous buttoned-down rarely discusses company upcoming product launches and is not now speak. But Apple has never denied that it intends, follow up on one of the most successful products.

Almost 5 billion dollar value were sold by iPads in the three quarters since its launch. And a quick look at the story of the iPhone which each year starts a new model, proposes, should we expect the iPad 2 right to the first anniversary of his predecessor’s launch: 3 April 2011.

A prototype of the iPad 2 reporter was sighted apparently from a Reuters started News Corp’s iPad publication, the daily last week. And an unconfirmed report from DigiTimes in December, said the iPad 2 in marketable quantities to make Foxconn, which had ordered Chinese manufacturers of iPhone and iPad, end of February.

The journal report carries three name lines and detail cited “Trusted people with matter”, offers a few more nuggets. It confirmed the widespread believe that iPad 2 a front-facing camera making video conferencing app will have the use of FaceTime. It says that 3 g again, the version on AT & T with Sprint and Verizon and still locked out T-Mobile. But it is contrary to earlier reports that Apple iPad that will equip 2 higher-resolution display, like the iPhone had 4 significantly higher resolution than the iPhone 3GS. Apple is probably still working on iPad display quality – it is not just for the iPad 2 be prepared.

So a slightly improved Apple tablet with camera will update millions of iPad users enough to persuade? There are other bells and whistles, which we don’t know yet? We have previously reported on rumors that the new device is an SD card slot and, that it rear-facing and front-facing camera will feature. (Click 2 rumors, iPad for our comprehensive roundup). We know when Apple action CEO Tim Cook takes the stage when this timeline product correctly, in a few months.

Layers.com officially launches its chrome Web application in the chrome Web store on Tuesday.

Chrome app offers the layers to visualize a way users what friends share on Twitter and while also allows users you subscribe Facebook RSS of your favorite websites feeds.

Many companies work towards better serving shared content to end users. Paper.Li and postal mail are two companies that are focused on the browser while pulse and Flipboard focused on mobile and tablet devices.

The layers chrome app approach is a little different. Content appears and is searchable via a bar at the bottom of the window. This bar previews of links, Facebook status messages, Twitter updates RSS feed descriptions and related content like YouTube links, TwitPics and more.

Check out this video to get a feel for which layers is all about:

The beauty of the system is that the layers makes it easy to browse it, what other users have – disclosed and can share, comment or response to this content in the Web application – but it is the user way if needed.

The toolbar can automatically hide content when not in use and a simple MouseHover bring it back up. The app could use some keyboard shortcut love – especially for those of us, the life and die by our keybindings.

Click one of the three things a link from Facebook, Twitter or an RSS channel possible. If the content is strictly a link to an external site, this site in the “Layers” loads. If the link to the content as a video from YouTube or another supported media type is, that display the contents of the tab next to the original message. For status updates that contain no links or media, nothing happens. Also here we want the ability to visit the Twitter or Facebook status message in the main layers tab for this article – especially with Twitter, where display the tweet often provide context (if Tweet in reply to another).

Overall the system works pretty well. Links to external pages in the layers tab will open in a new tab or window. We come back to layers only requires switching tabs, but again, we wish there was a kind of keyboard shortcut that could call this tab or window if necessary.

If a user a different address or search term in the Omnibox chrome, the layers will disappear until the app is called again.

We like the way layers manages and displays content, and we appreciate that many social features are built into the approx. layers says it has plans for Google Reader integration with the app. We would gladly find you see support for Tumblr and photo feeds Mobile applications such as Instagram and PicPlz.

If you want to give a try layers, you can it in Google chrome 9 or higher to install at this link.

It is a matter for the homeless feel bad; It is different in your shoes be forced. Advertising agency McKinney, urban has partnered with ministries of Durham (UMD), a non-profit based in North Carolina, consumed, an online game to create leading users through how it feels homeless be.

Here’s how it works: If you play the challenge, give a simple click game, navigate multiple choice questions about your living. The site says your savings have been stripped and are currently unemployed to questions, “You can make it through the month?”

You are given simple choices with different consequences. Want to try to work in a restaurant? A factory? If you live far from the city you will pay your rent cheap, but, as you are informed by pop-ups, need more for gas or transport.

The game is integration with Facebook is its best feature. With some decisions faced, (like your landlord raise your rent) asks the game you decide whether to ignore the claim to pay for it or ask a friend. The last option opens a pre-defined statement in Facebook, where you “can help, e-Mail by one of your actual friends” bridging the gap between virtual reality and the real unease having to ask a friend for help. This simple act helps the awareness of the game by adding to spread a logo and small description of your enquiry.

The game walks a fine line with sound. Non-profits have constantly scrounge out your audience with important facts and statistics and motivate, that same audience then donate or get involved. CONSUMED connects seamlessly, that information in the game. That had their opportunities with great insights about how many people out health insurance due to the high premiums opt as 44% of public libraries, use people living below the poverty line Internet access are met or lived in 2009, 50 million Americans in households, eating a hard time, to get. These facts are made all the more after had to weigh the options for you.

After trying to shop for digital food, however, this fact is punctuated by comments like this food will you a hard time [have]. If you eat a cheap Burger instead of a salad, tells us, “perhaps this is why low-income are rather like you to be overweight.” If consumed out from the city to live, send away with a missive: “Let’s hope not break your car!” For some extra cash is one of their options broken piggy bank of your child for an additional $15.

CONSUMED subscribes to the “tough love” mentality definitely, try to give a realistic idea of how it is with homelessness and poverty deal. With its Snipes the game gives you a good impression of what it’s like be leered.

Jenny Nicholson, copywriter at McKinney, is simulated from circumstances such as the used one of a handful of people who created the game and came. The game is not about absch?tzig user, but empathy to create, then says: “you have to make the best decisions, you can.” “People in these situations are not this because you are stupid, but because between a rock and a hard place be pierced.”

Tough love is a tough sell for someone, who stumbles on the game which simply know more or want to give money. There is a donate button at the bottom of the page and once you run out of money, you are prompted to join or donate to UMD. Currently based in the region of Durham, North Carolina, hoping Nicholson to release spent nationwide, if it proves effective.
