We have been dealing with a number of pharmaceutical companies on the subject of pressure / hydrostatic level transmitter capability under hygienic conditions, and feed back is cleanliness and size is important! We have been able to help with a tri-clamp fitting, hydrostatic / pressure sensor with a 1″ flush hygienic connection fitting pressure transmitter using our very own Mini CERTEC ceramic cell, offering one of the smallest connections on the market. It has a surface finish less than 0.5 Ra, double elastomer sealing, FDA compatible good overload and pressure shock capability, even on the lowest range at 100mBar and a self monitoring cell and diaphragm system. When you combine that with 7 housing options, and 4 communication protocols its a great pressure measurement package, whether you are looking for level or pressure measurement.

Pressure measurement: Why versatility is critical to get the best performance and value. Its not all about Differential Pressure transmitters and retro fitting chemical seals, when you are seeking the best performance to suit your application, environment and budget.

On many typical pressure measurement applications, DP is a traditional solution, offering great accuracy and it is widely available. But, on hydrostatic level applications for example, where a flush diaphragm is a common need, the diaphragms tend to be large to accommodate the low pressure ranges and they involve using an oil filled chemical seal. Its a very reliable, and familiar technology, but there are additional costs for fitting of chemical seals, capillaries’ and/or back-pressure ‘bubbler’ systems if you want a top mounted system. VEGA offer a wide range of more versatile, modular pressure solutions, which are designed specifically for diverse applications. There are options for technologies - including differential pressure; along with fittings, diaphragm designs, robust flush measuring cells, top mounted level measurement, hygienic connections and a range of approvals inside a variety of housings, to ensure the user gets the right ‘tool’ for the job. Look at VEGA range here

Radars have been successfully applied and working on coal bunker, coal silo and coal hopper level measurement and indication for many years in power, mining and coal transportation applications. They measure level reliably, with coal dust in the air, build up, even during filling! And, when dust levels are really heavy, they can have an integrated air purge system for cleaning the sensor. Multiple units can be installed if the surface area is large, to provide surface profiling and more accurate level, useful especially when there can be multiple discharge points. VEGA level radars are also being used more and more as Biomass leve indicators at power stations and recycling plants.

We have a brochure all about our range of pressure measurement solutions called VEGA Yellow World of Pressure Measurement. VEGA have always been known primarily for level measurement… and the colour Yellow! But this level measurement has included the hydrostatic level principle for almost 50 years. This is the measurement of liquid level by means of the ‘hydrostatic head’ pressure on a sensor. This is one of the most demanding areas of pressure measurement in many ways, as the results and performance can be directly seen, measured and monitored, performance must be linear and drift easily identified. Whereas, for example, a gas pressure can mainly only inferred against another gauge it cant be seen or measured with a stick!. With this pedigree, VEGA have expanded their ‘level’ range to one of the widest pressure transmitter and sensor ranges in industry. Sensor technologies and measuring cells include smaller low cost pressure sensors, flush hygienic pressure transmitters, suspended hydrostatic sensors and a range of DP transmitters. The ranges covered are from a few millibar to 1000 bar. Our Yellow world of VEGA brochure is now available. Contact us for a copy!

This is instead of the standard mechanical version, which uses paddle sensors and linkages, designed to ‘ride’ on the mud surface and often sustain build up, drift, damage and wear.

VEGA have, for a number of years, been supplying solutions for measuring the density of drilling mud for the offshore industry. There are many solutions on offer using a range of highly robust, yet accurate pressure sensors to measure density through differential in hydrostatic pressure. This is acheived with their VEGABAR abd VEGAWELL series of hydrostatic level sensors, which utilise a highly abrasion and shock resistant ceramic measuring cell. Other options include combining a hydrostaic based level sensor with a time of flight based device to derive density as well as a level measurement unaffected by density change. VEGA do some really useful guidance notes on density measurments, how they can be made and calculations needed to make them with single or dual sensor systems, depending on your application. If you would like a lunch and learn session on this topic let us know!

Float switches are installed on various critical applications and there is always a concern regarding whether they will operate when needed. The possibility they may become stuck through corrosion or build up is a real one, and testing them in situ to prove they will operate when required, is difficult without raising the product or process level, which has its own hazards. A vibrating tuning fork liquid level switch provides a fail-safe design, and a reliable alternative to float switches. This is due to the way they operate they generate a fault condition should process build-up on the switch or there is a fault or failure of any kind.

The VEGASWING tuning fork has SIL 2 capabability and has one of the best PFDav reliability figures in the market for level switches, thus ensuring maximum reliability. Many sites have a significant installed base of old ‘Mobrey’ style float switches with the ‘A’ type flange fixing in these critical high level applications.

To make the upgrade of these devices as straight-forward as possible, the VEGASWING can be ordered with a ‘Mobrey A’ flange fitting as standard This will provide a direct replacement for this float switch, with a smaller element that is unnafected by changing density, pressure and temerature. VEGASWING also doesn’t require any set-up ur tuning to the product level. The VEGASWING fitted with an A type flange as a direct fitting to replace a mobrey level switch, it can also be supplied with a replacement chamber. For more information, email us for a brochure all about VEGASWING products and applications.

VEGA have added new designs and variants to their range of bypass level indicators which combine guided radar and magnetic level indicators into the same assembly. These system come ready assembled, commissioned and tested, fully documented, enabling the user to bolt the systems up, test and go. Minimising the need for downtime and working in hazardous areas. A magnetic level indicatorin a bypass tube is a very traditional idea, offering the user a local, mechanical level indication requiring no power supply. The guided radar VEGAFLEX offers a system with no moving parts which measures directly the liquid level, unaffected by density change and has no float to potentially clog or sink. The two systems combined offer safety through diversity and use an externally mounted bypass arrangement, for both local and remote level indication.
