If you have plans to head to the Happiest Place on Earth this Memorial Day Weekend, you are in for a Monstrous-ly big surprise! To Kick Start the fun summertime line-up at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Parks will be open for a 24-hour period beginning Friday, May 24th at 6am, and will close on Saturday, May 25th at 6am. This awesome event is open to all annual pass holders as well!*

Once the party is started, the entire summer will be loaded with amazing new attractions and fun surprises at Disneyland. Be sure to plan your vacation now to take part in all the fun! There is something for all ages to create the most magical summer memories ever!

New ‘Mickey and the Magical Map’
“Mickey and the Magical Map” is a spectacular, live stage show presented at the Fantasyland Theatre, beginning May 25 in Disneyland Park. It takes guests on a musical adventure with a mischievous Mickey Mouse and the biggest character on stage, the Map. It spans the entire stage and has magical powers that come to life through amazing theatrical wizardry, colorful visuals and wonderful music. The journey includes encounters with such classic Disney characters as Pocahontas, Mulan, King Louie from “The Jungle Book,” Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” and others. “Mickey and the Magical Map” is designed for Disneyland guests of all ages and represents Disney storytelling at its most thrilling.

New Fantasy Faire
Fantasy Faire, a new storybook village near Sleeping Beauty Castle, immerses guests in timeless Disney tales. They can meet several Disney Princesses as they stroll through the beautiful Royal Hall, and then enjoy two Princess-themed shows at the Royal Theatre. The musical shows tell the tales of Rapunzel (“Tangled”) and Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”) as presented by Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, a pair of vaudeville-style Renaissance storytellers full of good humor. The princess heroine, Rapunzel or Belle, joins in the fun and remains with the audience to greet guests following the story.

At Disney California Adventure Park

Cars Land and Buena Vista Street
The newly expanded Disney California Adventure continues to be a popular vacation destination, with guests enjoying Cars Land, based on the popular Disney•Pixar animated feature “Cars,” and Buena Vista Street, an area themed to 1920s-1930s Los Angeles that adds more stories and entertainment experiences. Cars Land re-creates the town of Radiator Springs, along Route 66, and the highlight of the fuel-driven fun is Radiator Springs Racers. Racers never know which car will win as they go for the Piston Cup. On Buena Vista Street, entertainers such as “Five and Dime” and the Carthay Circle Theatre Restaurant offer guests more to do, day and night.

“Disney Junior – Live on Stage!”
Fans of the Disney Junior television hits “Sofia the First” and “Doc McStuffins” will enjoy interacting with these characters at “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” They join the gang from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” in a show that invites preschoolers to sing, dance and play with enchanting puppets, fanciful scenery and lively music. Sofia the First, Disney’s first little girl princess, and other characters in the show share ideas with guests, encouraging them to become part of the stories. Doc McStuffins consults her Big Book of Boo Boos to help diagnose and mend her toy friends.

There’s no doubt that Las Vegas Residents are anticipating Memorial Day weekend a bit more this year than normal. On this weekend Residents of Las Vegas will be a bit cooler, families happier and a wee bit farther away from the strip but enjoying the sun and fun too. With the grand opening of Wet ‘n’ Wild opening in the Southwest corner of Las Vegas many are buying up the season pass offers like hot cakes. Promises of long cool days, fun water drenched birthday parties and many new memories,

If you can remember the original Wet ‘n’ Wild on the Las Vegas Strip, we all loved it but secretly wished it was in our neighborhoods. Finally our wish has been granted. The amazing list of rides will clearly identify you are in Las Vegas. Wish such names as:

The Desert Racers

Hoover Half Pipe and Royal Flush Extreme

Rattler and Constrictor

Splash Island

Wave Pool

Zip Zapp Zoom

Image provided by Wet ‘n’ Wild

For those who reside here in Las Vegas, this is more than just another waterpark. This is a promise to our community. A promise of more jobs, more family activities, more community and something we can be proud of in our neighborhoods to call our own. What’s amazing to see is the progress as it happens. I live very close so popping by and viewing it’s progression has been exciting. Here’s the latest pics of the park progress that just happened last week:

I had the privelage of meeting James when I was running the community program for lululemon athletica here in Las Vegas. My goal was to meet fitness instructors, attend classes and become apart of the health and fitness community in Las Vegas. At the time, James had opened one of the first environmentally friendly boutique style gyms in the Summerlin area, Studio 222 Personal Training Centers Las Vegas. He was constantly introducing new concepts and ideas all the time- listening to his clients, listening to the community, getting a feel for what they wanted, so he could understand what would work. I always enjoyed spending time around James and his staff as they all seemed well-versed in their areas of expertise. I also loved how his desire to elevate the Las Vegas community came through in his work and in his projects.

It was no surprise to me when I discovered his latest crusade to create a more neighborly environment throughout the city of Las Vegas, encouraging positive actions for yourself and others, and a need to give-back, and take-away something powerful every time. How was James going to do this? One event at a time. Each event resetting the way we choose to live our lives.

RSMLV: James, you are such an inspiration to so many in the health and fitness community here. Tell us about yourself, who you are and how you got here.

JW: A native of San Francisco, I am a Hotel & Restaurant Management graduate and worked for 25yrs in some of the world’s finest 5 star hotels in SF. Ten years ago, my wife and I moved here to start our own businesses. My business collapsed before it launched and left me depressed for about a month. Worked at Starbucks for 4yrs and started teaching people Muay Thai (kickboxing) in my garage and got my personal trainer’s certification. Lucky to have found an investor who believed in me, and opened my own training studio 5yrs ago. I’ve always wanted to do something where I could give people a relaxed and fun forum for health, fitness and togetherness. The Reset Project was born from this passion.

RSMLV: What was The Reset Project meant to achieve? What would it provide?

JW: There was a need for a way to make health, wellness and conscious living simple and easy for people. All you need is education in small doses and an environment where you supported and safe. I developed our signature event the Sunday Reset Project to do this. If the community supports its members the results can be amazing.

RSMLV: What about The Reset Project inspires you? What makes you so passionate to be there?

JW: Making so many positive things at one time for our members and creating “neighborliness”. If we can help give you a push to do something positive for yourself and/or your neighbor that is great.

RSMLV: What do you want people to know about The Rest Project? How can they get involved?

JW: We are focused on creating vibrant connected communities that are immersed in health, wellness and conscious living. We are always looking for volunteers to help with events. Website and FB are ways to stay in contact but take the time to come to one of our events and experience it for yourself. We felt that in this rough economic and emotionally draining time people just wanted something simple, trustworthy and had some type of personal take away instead of something being taken from them. The Reset Project’s Sunday Reset Project and our other events aim to do this.

RSMLV: What is the overall goal you are looking to accomplish with The Rest Project?

JW: Create more and more events that connect people and communities.

RSMLV: All of that sounds amazing. I feel fortunate to be living in a city where so many people are starting to really invest and participate in making our community great. You mentioned events. I know you have one coming up pretty soon. Let’s chat about the Sunday Reset Project. What is the goal of these events?

JW: The Sunday Reset Project encapsulates what we feel is the 5 top components of living a healthy, fit and conscious lifestyle. This and all Reset Project events are about 3 main things:

Easy/Simple

Education/Application

Be more neighborly

RSMLV: What are you hoping to gain?

JW: If we can help bring forward a little more positive socially and personally conscious behavior and thoughts that’s all we want. If we have consistent events that keep increasing their social reach our goal should grow at the same rate.

RSMLV: How can people attend or get involved?

JW: Currently at The Amanda Harris Gallery for Contemporary Art we can fit 35 people. We have drawn up to 80 people at larger spaces but we make a conscious choice to support Amanda because she has supported us for the last 8 months. We hosted a spring brunch on, March 25, 2013, that had 45 people. Our next big event will be a summer BBQ on, June 28, 2013, at the DT3rd Farmer’s Market for about 100 people. You can stay connected with our events through our website.

RSMLV: What kind of food will be served?
JW: The Sunday Reset is a vegan based event so Vegan Chef Donald Lemperle caters every one. You could say all other events will be an eclectic mix of cuisines.

RSMLV: Are all the menu items from local farmers/resources?
JW: We try to source all vendors and materials locally. Often we have donations from local farms like Cowboy Trails, Bloomin’ Desert Herbs, Crossfire Ranch and the DT3rd Farmer’s Market
Affiliation with Earth Day- beyond the local suppliers, maybe the types of products being used, etc.
The goal is to have all our events be zero waste. We are currently working Heather Abel of Green Scene Productions to implement an efficient and inventive model.

RSMLV: Anything else you would like my readers to know about the event?

JW: We have a lot more stuff coming this year- stay connected to keep up!

How to Use Vine in this 8 Easy Steps Vine Tutorial

One of the latest new apps to hit the social media scene is Vine. An innovative app that allows 6 seconds of recording time with a continuous loop. The Vine app is currently only available for the iPhone 3GS and higher, but here’s hoping it will soon make its debut for other smart phones.

For me, Vine took a bit of time getting used to and remembering to actually use it. I love to social share in real time and I like the idea of video, so Vine is actually a great resource. Often, I find myself not recording moments because the idea of going back to edit or upload seems intimidating and daunting. I am very much a product of my era…I want instant gratification and perfection. Vine gives that to me.

Though there are things Vine still needs to work out, and I imagine after a few months or so the app will be golden. For now, there’s some really great attributes that makes Vine easy enough to add to your social media regimin.

Instantly share your Vine videos on your Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Embed your Vine videos in your blog or other websites.

Quick upload from Google+ to YouTube.

Yes, that’s right. There is a super easy way to upload your Vine videos from Google+ to YouTube. It is no secret that I am a huge Google+ fan. For many reasons, but the main one being the instant benefits for SEO. Now that Google+ and YouTube are in cahoots, what better way to keep your ranking up there than by utlizing all your resources to keep things quick and simple.

How Do you Do It?

First- make sure your Google+ account is connected with the photos and videos you take on your iPhone. (We are talking iPhone right now because it is the only smartphone Vine is available on.) Do this by downloading the Google+ app to your iPhone.

Second- shoot a video on your iPhone using the Vine app and publish it on Vine.

Third- once published, log into your Google+ account (not the app), find your new Vine video, and click on it.

Fourth- your video should be on your screen, and at the bottom left, in teeny tiny print, there is an Options button. Click on it.

Fifth- Select “Download Video”. Once the video has downloaded, open it onto your screen, and click the square button with the arrow in it (Upload button). A pop-up menu will appear with different places to upload to. For the sake of this post, choose YouTube.

Sixth- Enter the title of the video, categories and tags. IMPORTANT: If you want to share this video with the world, be sure to click on “Public” before uploading. Otherwise, it will automatically go to “Private”. You can change that in the settings on YouTube, but it is much easier to do it before you upload. Click through all the fine print stuff. Your video will start uploading.

Seventh- Once completed, there will be a link for your video. Click on that. You will be directed to your YouTube site. (If not, change your account to the one you want the video posted to.)

Eighth- Voila! Share away! Super simple, right? You can also upload the Vine video onto your Google+ albums and share there as well.
