The Auto Show at the Imperial Palace
We had a chance to visit the auto show at the Imperial Palace and had quite a good time looking at all of the cars. There are a lot of cars, trust us. These are some of the best preserved and well maintained cars we have ever seen. They needed more BMW’s though. Every Classic make was represented, from original Mercedes to Johnny Carson’s car.

Do not be fooled this is located on the 5th floor of the Imperial Parking garage and it is located way to the back, but it well worth it. You have to snake around to the left of the Imperial Palace Casino and head towards the back, when you pass the gift shops and it opens up a bit there is an elevator to the right next to a ramp. The elevator ride could have been better, it was slow and we stopped at every floor. Our initial thoughts were it was going to be a joke and have about 5 cars and be located in an open parking garage, boy were we wrong!

The garage is setup just like a car show and it is walled in and air conditioned. It doesn’t feel like a garage when you are walking around. There is a lot to see here and it will take some time if you are a car enthusiast. They do have a pretty big gift shop and it is well stocked.

They literally have over $100mil worth of cars on display. If you have the cash they are all for sale. We counted at least 250 cars on display as we walked through.

Rockhouse Imperial Palace

Located in front of the Imperial palace hotel, with an open door policy.  The Rockhouse never closes or so it seems.  There is always a person out front pouring drinks and selling beers.  The Rockhouse always has the music going and the drinks are always cheap.  They boast that they have the best daiquiri in town.
We have walked past this place a million times and finally we made it inside.  The atmosphere on weekend nights was a lot of fun.  It caters to the more inexpensive crowd, which is usually younger.  There were people mostly milling about until it got later in the evening when the drinks started flowing.
All in all, it is not the nightclub you hear stories and see TV shows about in Vegas, but if you are on the cheap and looking for a good time, then this place will do.  I am not saying stories won’t be made here…

Party all night without going broke.

Nightclub action starts at 9 p.m. nightly with live DJs and dancing in the only Las Vegas bird cage.

Riviera Las Vegas

Riviera Holdings Corp., owner of casinos in Las Vegas and subsidiaries Riviera Operating Corp, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization Monday.

The Recession is putting a squeeze on the Riviera and its assets are worth less than its liability.

The Riviera will continue its operation uninterrupted.

Riviera attorneys wrote: “Debtors were faced with declining hotel and casino revenues based on reduced consumer spending, a tightening credit market, and an overall weakening economy.

Riviera Holdings said it lost $4.5 million in the first quarter, amounting to 36 cents per share, compared to a year-ago quarter of $1 million or 8 cents per share.

We hope the Riviera can hold on.  The Riviera is one of the original strip casinos.  We stayed their recently and it is need of a face lift inside the casino and in the rooms, but it does cater to the more frugal crowd.

They need to look at how Circus Circus is surviving through MGM Mirage across the street.

The Encore Theater at the Wynn has been mostly empty since the Death of Danny Gans in May.

Stupak was a Vegas icon who loved publicity. In 1989 he placed a $1 million Bet on the Super Bowl and won. Bob was also very charitable, when it came to the city of Las Vegas.

The Stratosphere will be one of Bob’s legacies. I remember when the news broke that the Stratosphere’s one leg was shorter than the other and it would cost millions to fix. Bob, was determined to see his dream of the Stratorsphere come true and leveraged some of the casino to have it fixed so progress could continue.
