Finally we start the 2013 season, and Andre Greipel is already winning races. I know, you expected me to say Mark Cavendish, but Mr. January is being … well … Mr. January. Taking a good bike length to the 2011 Milan san Remo winner Matthew Goss he easily overpowered the Australian rider to take his 3rd TDU Stage 0 win.

Greipel storms to the finish line for his first win of the season

Sure, I get it, who cares? It’s the first “stage” of the 2013 road cycling season. Well, fuck you, I care more about this than the damn confession that Lance Armstrong made. Fuck him. It also shows how well the Lotto-Belisol train is right now. They may be taking over the HTC control, especially with Greg Henderson leading the Gorilla out. Look for Greipel to add to his 11 stages at the Tour Down Under this year, and possibly the overall for the second time. Also Jürgen Roelandts tore that peloton apart at the end and deserves that credit. Suddenly there was a breakaway of seven rides within the last km of the stage. Roelandts just tore them from the front of the peloton and gave Greg the best platform possible to launch Greipel to the stage victory.

Not much else to report for the crit. Per usual for the TDU we will see plenty of sprinting action with the climb Old Willunga Hill on stage 5.

Let me start off with a huge disclaimer about a few things. I am not a writer. I am not an expert of any kind when it comes to cycling nor am I entirely researched on the subject. I just enjoy watching and discussing the tactics.

I’m mostly doing this for my own selfish needs to organize things into one place and have an outlet for my constant retweets. Might as well have it all organized in an easier to read format for myself and possibly help some others. Below are some ideas or goals, whatever you want to call them.

Twitter Team Pages – Big one for me, having an easy page to view or follow an entire team. This would include directors, soigneurs, mechanics, wives, doctors, etc. Probably to be done through lists on twitter to follow and a page dedicated to all of their recent tweets.

Comprehensive Race Pages – A consolidated page with the majority of the race information located on it. Starting times and lines, weather, elevation, time checks, intermediate sprints, KOMs, all the good stuff.

Further Reading – Would really like to have a full list of books about cycling and all the cogs involved. Could include other mediums, film or photography.

These are just some really basic ideas. I believe a lot of what is going to be posted here are the main stories of the day. I’m also looking to try and get to more local events (expect CX World Championships in Louisville 2013, USA Pro Cycling Challenge, things of that are close by).

Anyways, we shall see where this goes. Hopefully Vaughters doesn’t find this place, his argyle socks might explode off his feet.
