Affrontperson: /af front per son/ Venoma had found the perfect job. She worked as an affrontperson for the telephone company at their fancy head office. It was jokingly called the Customer Service Dept; but employees there were encouraged to trade insults
with patrons, both in person and over the phone. She worked with 2 others, Rudy & Curt and she always won the insult competitions the department had each week. Her family motto was, “The best defence is a good offense” and she strived to live up to that motto. Imagine her surprise when they were all told that the company was closing shop locally and farming it’s business overseas…globalization it was called. But Venoma landed on her feet by being sent overseas to train the new employees on how to insult the customers, even with a strong foreign accent. Etymology: Afront (a deliberately offensive act or something producing the effect of an affront;treat, mention, or speak to rudely) & Person (a human being)

Knackurate: /nak kyur at/ Know one knew how she did it, but Knancy had the ability to be knackurate about everything. She was Queen of the Knewniverse and knot a day went by by where she was knot knaive about knowing everything. We would knever play Moknowpoly with her, as she knew when the dice would land on Knorth Carolina and give her the game. She was knotty and knice and knever dull.
Knowcation: /no – ka – shun/ Travis felt that he had reached the knowcation he had been looking for. It was in this place of peace where the northern boundary of the forest preserve met the wheatfield he had his moments of revelation. He sat under the trees watching the grain wave in the breeze and it all began to come together….. Etymology: know, location Created by: mweinmann.

Polly found a kinship of people there through threads of common interest. She had 25 friends in FarmerTown that she really didn’t even know, except that they all liked to plant crops and harvest them. Etymology: connect, network Created by: mweinmann.

Textualattension: /tekst tuall at ten shun/ Mimi’s main social interactivity was that which she played out everyday by texting, e-mailing and on-line networking with her friends, family and people from long ago and far away who looked her up. She spent so much energy and time doing this, that she failed to allot enough to meet suitable young men. As a result she was lonely and suffered from textualattension. If she lost her communication tools, she would be lost in learning how to connect with real humans. Maybe it was time to contact e-Harmony and let them find her a mate. How the heck did her parents ever meet and marry in the Dark Ages, she wondered… Etymology: Textual (of or relating to or based on a text…written word used on cell phones, blackberries to communicate and network electronically) & Attention (the work of caring for or attending to someone or something) & Tension (a state of mental or emotional strain or suspense) & Play on Sexual Tension (wink, wink, nod, nod) Created by: Nosila.

Thumbunicate: /θəmyoōnÉ™kāshÉ™n/ Joyce*s friends are worried. Ever since she acquired her Blackberry she has stopped talking. Many of her friends haven*t seen her in months. She thumbunicates with them on a regular basis, sometimes dozens of times a day but can*t seem to manage a real world interaction. For all they know she is squirreled up in her mother*s basement with a case of Cheetos and several six packs of Rockstar. An intervention may be in order. Etymology: thumb (the short, thick first digit of the human hand, set lower and apart from the other four and opposable to them – the primary tool of text messaging) communicate (share or exchange information, news, or ideas) Created by: artr.

Socirtuality: /so-sir-tchu-al-i-ty/ Jenna networked with her friends so much that she developed her very own socirtuality where everthing revolved around her and what she thought and felt. She communicated constantly with her bffs and developed a relationship with a really cute boyfriend — at least his avatar was cute and he sounded really cute in his texts. She was so busy with her MySpace page, her Facebook page, her tweets and her second life that she forgot about her first life and real relationships. It got so bad that her family had to text her when her grandmother died. Etymology: society: totality of social relationships among humans + virtual: existing in essence, but not in it’s actual form + reality: the quality or state of be actual or true Created by: mrskellyscl.

DEFINITION: n. A person who, using an example from their own life, steers people away from a line of speculation by reducing it to an absurdity. v. To dismantle a logical argument with piles of passionate incoherence.

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Colorpoohpoohle: /kol or poo pool/ When Lavender asked her Daddy to buy her a computer, he was mauved to colorpoohpoohle her request. He entered a Purple Haze and told her a plum crazy story of how he had to lilac a sidewalk when he was young, just to get his Daddy to give him a magenta crayon to finish his homework. His Daddy thought just heliotropes used that color and it spurred him to almost violet behaviour towards his son. Luckily his mother had grape expectations of her only son and his father’s amethyst-icuffs did not scare her or his son. Poor Lavender, she had long ago drifted into a deep purple haze when listening to this periwinkle of a tale, because she was mauved to boredom. Etymology: Color (an outward or token appearance or form that is deliberately misleading)& Pooh-Pooh (express contempt about;reject with contempt) & Play on Color Purple (Alice Walker Book and 1985 Steven Spielberg film) Created by: Nosila.

Babblogic: /babel – ojik/ Cecil’s usual babblogic behavior befuddled even the most intelligent person. He was a babblegic in the truest sense in that he could expound a subject for hours and you came away not understanding the point of anything he had said. Etymology: babble (say or speak incoherently), logic Created by: mweinmann.

Ergocentrist: /er go SEN trist/ He is such an ergocentrist. Basically, his attitude is, “This is how I did it thirty years ago and it worked for me; therefore, this is how it should continue to work.” He says he never gets vaccinations because when he was 17, he got one, and the next day, he broke his ankle. Therefore, he would never get a vaccination again because he is sure it makes people’s bones turn brittle. Since then, he has never broken a bone, which just “proves” his theory. But he does get the flu almost every year. (Which he blames on computer viruses, because he never got the flu until he was 18, and hey, that was RIGHT AROUND the time that computers really hit the popular market, so therefore,….) Etymology: ergo (therefore) + egocentric Created by: karenanne.

DEFINITION: v. To steal a look at your reflection in a window, mirror or other reflective surface; often done furtively so not to be seen as vain. n. A reflected image which is distorted by vanity.

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Likenessmonsters: /lyke ness mon stirs/ Young Bonnie was a canny lass. She was gorgeous and knew it. She threw it in the faces of all her suitors, playing one against another….Angus, Jock, Duncan and Alistair. When the lads met for a pint in their local and started comparing notes, as only lads do, they discovered she had fooled them all with her beauty and need for acknowledgement of her famed vanity. She had left no mirror ungazed upon, no window unlooked at and no other shiny surfaces unobserved. That is when they decided that Bonnie, not Nessie, became all the Likenessmonsters of their lonely lives. Etymology: Likeness (picture consisting of a graphic image of a person or thing;similarity in appearance or character or nature between persons or things); Loch Ness Monsters (large aquatic animal supposed to resemble a serpent or plesiosaur of Loch Ness in Scotland, plural: more than one)

Windowcopping: /winn doh kop ping/ She frequently went windowcopping on the High street. People wondered why someone with the vital statistics of a famished greyhound would spend so much time checking out the cream buns every lunchtime. Etymology: window shopping, copping a glance Created by: galwaywegian.

Imagic: /imaj – ik/ Penelope was mesmerized. She kept sneaking peeks at herself and she looked better than she thought. It was imagic. Her vanity skewed her reflection so much that she did not even know how she really looked —and perhaps that was a blessing. Etymology: image, magic Created by: mweinmann.

Stealthcheckout: /stellth-check-out/ Jill enjoyed working the stealthcheckout line at the FoodMart. She could see her reflection on the register screen and knew at all times just how perfect her hair looked and whether or not her lipstick needed refreshed. Best of all, no one really knew that she was checking herself out because it appeared as though she was working hard. Etymology: wordplay on self-checkout: an alleged way to avoid long lines at the grocery store (not true), which is really an excuse for not hiring enough people to assist customers — stealth: being furtive or covert + checkout: to look at or inspect thoroughly Created by: mrskellyscl.

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Ahhhshoot: /ah-shoot/ Melody was deep in conversation with Cliff when she saw his expression change. Nose crinkling up. Brows furrowed. Upper lip in a sneer. When Cliff began the rapid intake of breath, Melody braced herself for a killer sneeze, all the while wondering why he didn’t have the decency to bury his shnoz in his elbow. After the most protracted build-up she could remember, Cliff threw his head back and….and…and…nothing. With a big “ahhshoot” Cliff returned to a conversation that Melody had long since checked out of. Etymology: Achoo modified to include “shoot” as in expressing frustration. Created by: Nuwanda.

Gesundhalt: /geh-zund-halt/ Sue abruptly stopped her performance and stood perfectly still, staring straight ahead with a contorted look on her face. Her breathing became labored and everyone in the audience thought she may be having a seizure. After several anxious seconds she regained her composure and said, “Excuse me, I must have had a sneeze freeze.” Someone in the crowd yelled, “Gesundhalt!” and the whole place erupted with laughter. Etymology: gesundheit: an expression to wish someone good health who has just sneezed arising from an ancient belief that your heart stopped while you sneezed and at that moment the devil could come and take over your soul + halt: stop or interrupt progress Created by: mrskellyscl.
