SmartLedger 3.3 - Tracks income & expense simply.

Tracks income & expense simply.

SmartLedger's mission in life is to help you track income and expense without having to type numbers, dates, and names. SmartLedger makes use of pop-down lists that automatically grow as you use the program, so that you can click, rather than type, most of your information after your first few entries.

SmartLedger is ideal for adding up randomly all those receipts you've stuffed into a grocery sack, awaiting your accountant's attention. Don't sort them out by hand -- just start with the first one and continue till you reach the bottom of the bag. Leave sorting and subtotaling to the program. Other uses: quick expense reports for your employer, monitoring a chancy budget. This simple program is flexible and won't lock you into account reconciliations. Enter only the transactions that are meaningful to you or your accountant. Reconcile when you want to, using the checkboxes and Accounts button.

SmartLedger comes with sample entries. Play with the buttons to see what the program does. Then, when you're ready to start your own ledger, click "Remove Sample Entries" to get rid of the make-believe entries.

Do you have a PayPal account? SmartLedger can import your PayPal account history automatically and give you the big picture on income/expense, subtotaled by category.

For on-line vendors, an eBay fee and consignment calculator is included. To incorporate account history from other banks, use the Import Manually command under the SmartLedger Menu.

Built with FileMaker Developer as a standalone application, SmartLedger looks and behaves the same on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Three versions are available: Windows, Mac OS X, and Mac "Classic" OS 8/9.x.

Helix RADE, the development tool, gives the user complete capability to develop applications that can range from a simple, single user, to a complex, multi-user. Applications developed with Helix RADE can be executed in single user mode without any additional software, and can be deployed in client/server mode without modification. Since Helix single user system contains the complete development environment, the initial cost for production software can be very low. Should the business or application requirement grow, the application can be deployed into the client/server environment by merely purchasing the server and appropriate number of client licenses.

Common text & DNA/protein sequence transformations.

I find Excel to be brilliant for making pretty sequences and sequence alignments - however each character needs to be in a separate cell.
So I wrote a little utility to do often used text / sequence transformations:

Insert Tab before / after each character

Insert Return after each character

Keep only letters a-Z

Format in blocks of 3, 10, 50, 100

Remove leading / trailing / multiple spaces

Reverse / complement/ invert DNA sequence

Translate DNA sequence in frame 1 / 2 / 3

Backtranslate protein into human / E. coli DNA (using the most frequently used codon)

Convert 3-Letter AminoAcid code into 1-Letter code

Convert 1-Letter AminoAcid code into 3-Letter code (spaced / tabbed)

Get protein sequence info

... and much more (just ignore the bits you don't need)

If there are other transformations you'd like just drop me a line via the contact form on my website

Please note that this program will run as it is - there is no installation, no files will be put anywhere (registry, system, etc in the Windows version) so it should even run if you are on "managed computers" like we are in our lab.

If you find it useful then a donation is appreciated

app switcher/launcher a bit like OS X's dock

A-Dock is a bit like Mac OS X's dock. It acts as an application switcher and an application launcher It's separated in 3 zones

your favorite applications you've added by drag&drop (left part)
the other applications running on your computer (middle part)
the trash (right part)
You can minimized A-Dock to just a small bar to save space on your screen. This bar auto-pops out when you move the mouse inside and minimizes again when you move the mouse outside. But of course if you have a big screen, you can leave it opened. A-Dock is stuck to the screen edges. Switching your monitor resolution will not move the dock to a place you don't want like the App Switcher does everytime I play Quake 2. The dock can be positionned everywhere on the sceen edges. Just grab it and drag it !!
