<h2 dir="auto">What is S.A.C.K.</h2>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Did you know that toiletry items, including soap, aren&#8217;t covered by SNAP (U.S. subsidies program), forcing people to have to choose between being clean and having food to eat? I didn&#8217;t until learning about an organization called S.A.C.K.</p>
<p>During years of volunteering, S.A.C.K. founder Stacy Wiener discovered the disparity and decided to help. Nearly 20 years and 1 million soap sack donations later, her crusade for dignity through cleanliness perseveres.</p>
<p>S.A.C.K. (an acronym for Supporting A Community with Kindness) is a 501(c)(3) charity encouraging volunteers around the country to crochet, knit, or sew cotton carrying sacks, collect or purchase bar soap, then donate the soap sacks to their local food pantries, homeless shelters, relief efforts, social service agencies, and veterans clinics. June is Crafting with Care month on <a href="http://www.stitchwellsocialclub.com"><strong>Stitchwell Social Club</strong></a>, so what better time to launch what will hopefully be a Summer of service, including knitting, crocheting, and donating sacks and soap through S.A.C.K.? As a club, members will have the option to attend a live session with Stacy, stitch soap sacks together during meet-ups, post photos, earn badges, join co-working sessions, and more as part of our commitment to this community service project and support system around it.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to be a SWSC member (although I&#8217;d love you to join us) to participate in our SoapSack Summer initiative, though! I was honored to design both knit and crochet sacks to add to the S.A.C.K. patterns library, and include here for you to download. Make one (or many) to encourage a neighborhood soap drive, so non-stitchers can also participate, and donate your soap-filled finished sacks to a local shelter, food pantry, or to anyone who may benefit from receiving it.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s to stitching for good!</p>
<p dir="auto">xx,<br />

<p>I&#8217;m so happy to share my latest design, and first garment pattern in a few years, the <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/tee-ser-chunky-crochet-tee/">Tee-ser Crochet Chunky Tee</a>.</p>
<p>This boxy, cropped, open-weave top is crocheted quickly with <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/pouf.html?a_aid=vh0529">Purl Soho Pouf</a>, a super-chunky, light and lofty yarn. It’s a great project for all levels of crocheters. The pattern is inclusively sized for bust/chest from 30″- over 64″/76-163cm, and can be lengthened or shortened for comfort.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="auto"><a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/tee-ser-chunky-crochet-tee/">Tee-ser Crochet Chunky Tee </a>looks cute over a 3/4-length sleeve top paired with a skirt, cozy over a long-sleeved thermal with jeans, and chic with a cami and wide-leg trousers.</p>
<p>This crochet top is great for beginners making their first garment, or for more seasoned crocheters who want to stitch up something stylish in a flash. Whatever your level, my step-by-step video tutorial is available to keep you company while you create.</p>
<h2 dir="auto"><strong>See the Tee-ser Video Tutorial → </strong><a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/tee-ser-chunky-crochet-tee/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><strong>HERE</strong></a></h2>
<p dir="auto">Tee-ser is meant to be boxy and is designed with 8″-12″ of ease. It’s designed for a cropped fit, but length can easily be added or removed. Both back and front are worked the same, with a simple, 2-row repeat, followed by a little shoulder shaping. To finish this top, front and back pieces are seamed at the shoulders and sides, then half-double-crochet arm bands are added.</p>

Scrap Bin Heart</h2>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []">This cute, mitered heart plushie is a great way to use those the scraps in your yarn stash, then share a little love this Valentine&#8217;s Day. Keep your knit heart as a simple plushie, use them as pin cushions, add a loop to hang it as a V-day ornament, or fill them with dried lavender and chamomile for a sweet sachet. No matter what, who wouldn&#8217;t heart getting a handmade scrap bin heart?</p>
<p dir="auto">Play with color combinations or use a single shade for a minimalist look. Texture variations, like a blend of cottons and wools, can add extra charm and tactile appeal to each heart.</p>
<p dir="auto">Experiment with embroidery or tiny buttons to embellish your hearts. Stitching initials, little flowers, or sparkly beads will make each one unique and add a personal touch for your recipient.</p>
<p dir="auto">These hearts can be finished in an evening, making them perfect for last-minute gifts. Package a few together in a pretty bag, or tuck them into a Valentine’s card for a thoughtful surprise.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re watching the socials, the knitting and crochet community is embracing hats as a symbol for protest, yet again. Unlike 2016&#8217;s P*ssy Hats, though, these hats have historical significance. In the midst of World Ward II, Norwegian citizens took to the streets wearing pointy, red hats with tassels (<a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=nisseluer&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS932US933&amp;oq=red+protest+hads+norweigian+1940s&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIJCAEQIRgKGKABMgkIAhAhGAoYoAEyCQgDECEYChigATIJCAQQIRgKGKABMgkIBRAhGAoYoAEyBwgGECEYjwLSAQg4MDQxajBqN6gCALACAA&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiJhJ-Gn6-SAxXNwskDHY78Og0QgK4QegQIARAC" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><em>nisseluer</em></a>) as an act of silent protest. Eventually, the Nazis deemed them illegal and punishable by law to have on don or distribute.<br dir="auto" />Cut to today, in the midst of the public rise of neo-nazism, knitters are bringing the essence of them back.</p>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1063379 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-643x1024.png" alt="" width="643" height="1024" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-643x1024.png 643w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-600x956.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-768x1223.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-964x1536.png 964w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-1286x2048.png 1286w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-200x319.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM-395x630.png 395w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.11.55-PM.png 1290w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 643px) 100vw, 643px" /> <br dir="auto" /><br dir="auto" />I first came across this piece of our past through <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DT0hepJgORZ/?igsh=Y2EzdTl4Z2gzNW54" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">@maggietinks</a> on Instagram Reel, then more from an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DT_SBV7FTFT/?igsh=cWI2aHJxdXlvbDN4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">@goodgoodco carousel post.</a></p>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []"><br dir="auto" />As things (or algorithms, as it were), go though, I then started seeing much more. <strong>Most notable, is the awe-inspiring fundraiser by Yarn Cult through sales of their &#8220;</strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DT_SBV7FTFT/?igsh=cWI2aHJxdXlvbDN4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><strong>Melt the Ice&#8221;</strong></a><strong> hat. Last I checked, over 250,000 had been raised towards immigrant aid agencies! </strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DT_SBV7FTFT/?igsh=cWI2aHJxdXlvbDN4" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><strong>I encourage you to purchase the pattern</strong></a><strong>, even if the style isn&#8217;t one you&#8217;d wear yourself. This campaign, started by one person, is a prime example of the power of the yarn community.</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1063380 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-504x1024.png" alt="" width="504" height="1024" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-504x1024.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-768x1559.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-757x1536.png 757w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-1009x2048.png 1009w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-200x406.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-310x630.png 310w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-600x1218.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-28-at-4.23.37-PM-scaled.png 1261w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px" /></p>
<p dir="auto" data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Once you&#8217;ve done that, if you&#8217;re feeling inspired to make and wear a red hat yourself, but prefer a simpler, ribbed style, I&#8217;ve added a couple of my own beanie patterns to download for FREE (please, use the money you would&#8217;ve spent on my patterns on the fundraiser, instead.) Download the Knit Barge Beanie <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Barge-Beanie.pdf">HERE</a>, and the Crochet Ribbed Hat <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Crochet-Ribbed-Beanie-.pdf">HERE</a>.<br dir="auto" /><br dir="auto" />Please note that for the pointed effect to happen, you may need to add an inch or so worth of chain stitches at the beginning. <br dir="auto" /><br dir="auto" />For the knit version adding an inch in height will help, and if you&#8217;d like more of the look of the modeled shot in the top image, work additional length (so you&#8217;ll have 10 1/2&#8242;-11&#8243; from CO edge), then use <a href="https://youtu.be/0MggeY_UuqU" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">this seaming method</a> in lieu of crown-shaping.</p>
<p dir="auto">Be kind to one another, and stitch on! <br dir="auto" /><br dir="auto" />XX</p>

<p>As a professional knitter, crocheter, and hobbyist sewist, it&#8217;s always fun to look at and share some of my favorite completed projects from the past year. Each piece tells a story, reflecting my creative journey and the community I&#8217;m a part of because of craft. From cozy knits to delightful sewing collaborations, let’s dive into my 10 favorite finished projects of 2025!</p>
<p><a href="https://vickiehowell.com/books/no-needles-knitting/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1063344 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-819x1024.png" alt="Meta Plaid Scarf No Needles Knitting" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /></a><strong>1. The Meta Plaid Scarf</strong><br />
For a special class I&#8217;m teaching to a small group next month, I designed a unique, artistic version of the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/meta-tartan">Meta Plaid</a> scarf inspired by my new book, <em><a href="https://geni.us/nnkam"><strong>No Needles Knitting</strong></a></em>. I adore the graphic nature of both the <a href="https://knitcollage.com/vickiehowell">Knit Collage Wanderlust</a> rendition and the original (made is <a href="https://tidd.ly/4hhgb8e">Berroco Macro</a> yarn) —this project truly sparked my creativity.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://www.stcboosters.com/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1063345 " src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-819x1024.png" alt="Theater Banquet Outfit for 2025 Startlight Theatre Company" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /></a><strong>2. A Collaborative Theater Ensemble</strong><br />
This project was particularly special as it involved my teenager for their theater banquet with the theme, Garden Under the Stars. I made a bustle skirt from scratch, while we transformed a thrifted corset into a stunning piece with hand-sewn flowers, beads, and coordinating fabric panels.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063346 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/3-819x1024.png" alt="Knit ruffled and pearled bandit scarf. The Rococo Revival Bandit Scarf</strong><br />
Inspired by my presentation at the Stitchwell Social Club about the Rococo Revival trend, I designed this ultra-feminine scarf adorned with ruffles and pearls. Its lush texture and ornamental details make it a standout piece in my collection! The <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/rococo-bandit-scarf/">Rococo Bandit Scarf pattern</a> is available in my shop.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.vickiehowell.com/stitchwellsocialclub"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063347 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-819x1024.png" alt="Moodring Wrapghan Mental Health Temperature Blanket Make-Along" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/4.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /></a><strong>4. The Moodring Wrapghan</strong><br />
This crocheted wrap is more than just a cozy throw; it represents a summer of emotions through its beautiful shades of <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/cotton-chirp-dk.html?a_aid=vh0529">Purl Soho Cotton Chirp DK</a>. Hosting a mental health temperature project make-along on <a href="http://vickiehowell.com/stitchwellsocialclub">Stitchwell Social Club</a> with 500 fellow stitchers&nbsp; prioritizing self-care through crafting made this project unforgettable.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063348 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-819x1024.png" alt="Sewn Wide Legged Pants, pattern from Peppermint Magazine" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/5.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><strong>5. Wide-Legged Pants Adventure</strong><br />
Note to self: Always take still photos! Although this shot is blurry, the pair of Peppermint Magazine wide-legged pants I created is one of my favorite sewn projects. After taking a class on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ithacamaven/">body-neutral fitting</a> using the Top-down, Center-Out method, I felt empowered to tackle this design!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063349 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-819x1024.png" alt="Rodeo Vest from Knit Collage Fall KAL" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/6.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><strong>6. The Cozy Rodeo Vest</strong><br />
The Rodeo Vest from the <a href="https://knitcollage.com/vickiehowell">Knit Collage</a> Fall Knit-Along has earned the title of coziest knit of the year! I love how this piece made my olive &amp; aqua dreams come true—definitely a wardrobe staple I’ll cherish.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063350 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-819x1024.png" alt="Charlie Bucket knit scarf, hat and wrist warmer set, designed by Vickie Howell" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><br />
<strong>7. Designing for Charlie &amp; the Chocolate Factory</strong><br />
A highlight of my year was designing Charlie Bucket’s knitwear for the AISD Summer Theatre Series production of&nbsp;<em>Charlie &amp; the Chocolate Factory.</em> Collaborating creatively with the local youth, theater community made my drama-kid heart swoon!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Make your own Charlie&#8217;s Hat &amp; Scarf Set with<a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/charlies-set/"> my patterns</a> and Purl Soho <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/plein-air.html/?a_aid=vh0529">Plein Air</a> yarn.</p>

<p><strong>8. The Must-Make Smock Top</strong><br />
After seeing my friend Twinkie Chan’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DKfdIl5T9Du/">adorable version</a> of the <a href="https://matchymatchysewingclub.com/products/open-back-smock-top-pdf-sewing-pattern">Open Back Smock Top</a> from the Matchy Matchy Sewing Club, I couldn&#8217;t resist creating one myself! It was the perfect antidote to my FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), turning inspiration into a FO (finished object.)</p>
<p><a href="https://tidd.ly/3Y6y94V"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1063352 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-819x1024.png" alt="Quick Gift Cowl for CreativeBug, by Vickie Howell" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/9.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /></a></p>
<p><strong>9. The Under 3-Hour Cowl</strong><br />
Designed for a CreativeBug Live Workshop, this cowl became my most gifted handmade item during the holiday season! Its quick and satisfying pattern made it a joy to create, and sharing it with friends and family made it even more special. Bonus: the pattern and workshop are available for <a href="https://tidd.ly/3Y6y94V">free on CreativeBug!</a></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063353 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-819x1024.png" alt="Crocheted Tee by Vickie Howell in Purl Soho Pouf Yarn" width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/10.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><strong>10. A Cropped Tee from Purl Soho Pouf</strong><br />
While working on the Under 3-Hour Cowl (see above) samples, I was inspired to design a cropped tee using the same, <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/pouf.html?a_aid=vh0529">Purl Soho Pouf Yarn</a> — I love crocheting with it.</p>
<p>I can’t wait to publish this pattern in 2026, but for now, I’m brainstorming the perfect name for it!</p>
<blockquote><p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1063354 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-819x1024.png" alt="Knit and crocheted squares for the Season's Feelings Scarf." width="801" height="1001" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11-504x630.png 504w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/11.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><strong>Honorable Mention: Season&#8217;s Feelings Holiday Mood Scarf</strong><br />
While still a work in progress, I’m loving the process of working with Berroco <a href="https://tidd.ly/4nkqcDS">Ultra Alpaca</a> and <a href="https://tidd.ly/3Kkq4pt">Vintage</a> yarns for the <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/self-care-season-scarf-the-next-mental-health-make-along-starts-soon/">Season’s Feelings, Holiday Mood Scarf Make-Along</a>. Sharing this experience with over 1,000 stitchers on <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/stitchwellsocialclub/">Stitchwell Social Club</a> has been incredibly fulfilling, and I look forward to finishing this project by the end of January!</p>
<p>Speaking of Stitchwell Social Club, I would love to have you come join me there in 2026. The community is kind, supportive, and creative; there are loads of patterns and tutorials, and monthly guest-expert instructed workshops. <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/stitchwellsocialclub/">Learn more HERE</a>.</p>
<p>Twenty Twenty-Five was a rough one, but making cozy and beautiful things made it tolerable. Here&#8217;s to self-care through stitching and positivity through projects in 2026, and beyond!</p>

<p>Happy Monday, everyone! As we get closer to our official launch of the <a href="https://stitchwell-social-club.mn.co/"><strong>Season&#8217;s Greetings Holiday Scarf Mood Make-Along</strong></a>, I thought I&#8217;d start the week off with something pretty to gaze at. Here&#8217;s a peek at stitch patterns for the knit and crochet scarves.&nbsp; For this mental-health temperature project, we&#8217;ll be creating a patchwork of our &#8220;feels&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tidd.ly/4hhgb8e "><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1062978 size-large" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-768x1024.jpg" alt="Season's Greetings Scarf Swatches" width="768" height="1024" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-600x800.jpg 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-640x853.jpg 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-200x266.jpg 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-225x300.jpg 225w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-473x630.jpg 473w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ACS_0960-scaled.jpg 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></p>
<p>Before I break this down for you, two things:</p>

Joining is free, and although the <strong>official launch event is on November 1st</strong>, stitchers should feel free to sign on throughout the coming weeks. I know holiday months are busy, so I&#8217;ve built in A LOT of scheduling wiggle room. Do what you can, when you can!</p>
<p>2. If you&#8217;re shopping through my affiliate links with our partners (optional), there are three different yarns (Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Berroco Vintage, and Knit Picks Wool of Andes) and nine (also optional) palettes. You can get a quick look at them in <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/self-care-season-scarf-the-next-mental-health-make-along-starts-soon/">this blog post</a>. For a &#8220;yarn tour&#8221; and a more in-depth look at the yarns (including comparisons), please see the featured articles in the Make-Along space on my Stitchwell Social Club platform.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Season&#8217;s Feelings Holiday Mood Make-Along<br />
</span></h2>
<p>Over the Summer, I had the pleasure of hosting 500+ knitters and crocheters for the first mental-health make-along. Over a 3-month period, using the same technique used for temperature blankets, we knit or crocheted a Wrapghan using colors to log out emotions. The experience was so impactful that I&#8217;ve decided that this practice will be a series of make-alongs. I&#8217;m happy to announce the next one, The <a href="https://stitchwell-social-club.mn.co/"><strong>Season&#8217;s Feelings Mood Scarf-Make Along</strong></a>. This is a <strong>FREE to join event hosted on my community platform, Stitch<em>well</em> Social Club</strong>.</p>

<h2>Merry or Meh?</h2>
<p><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">The holidays can bring with them a range of emotions. From nostalgia over childhood favorites and the joy of making new memories with loved ones, to event-related social anxiety and grief from a loss that seems magnified during times of cultural togetherness.</span></p>
<p><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">The Season&#8217;s Feelings Mood Scarf MAL is a stitcher’s conduit for processing, remembering, and recording those feelings with a low-demand project to suit the busy season and a community to support us.</span></p>
<p class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body"><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">In a world where everything is seemingly focused on the “outer us,” the goal for the second mental health make-along in this series is to encourage stitchers to take some time for ourselves and focus on what’s going on inside during a season that can be jam-packed with emotions. My hope is that it will also help to normalize conversations among fiber crafters to include mental health challenges, which can sometimes be amplified between the fall holidays and New Year’s.</span></p>
<p class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body"><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">‘Tis the season for some self-care.</span><span class="a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none"> I’m here for it, and for you!</span></p>

<h2>Five Fall 2025 Fashion Trends For Knitters &amp; Crocheters</h2>
<p>For me, tracking trends is just another inspirational jumping-off point and a potential conversation starter. The really fun part, though, is finding connections in the maker world that bridge the gap between fashion and craft.</p>
<p>Recently, Cosmopolitan Magazine published an article on <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/fashion/a65783064/fall-fashion-trend-report-2025/?src=dashhudson">Fall 2025’s Biggest Fashion Trends</a> that’s jam-packed with crossover trends that work for us knitters and crocheters. Here are a handful of my design ideas for projects you can hand-knit (no needles), traditionally knit (with needles), and crochet along with Fall 2025 trends<br />
!</p>
<h2><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1062904 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1.jpg" alt="Faux Fur Trend for Knitters" width="800" height="1000" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1.jpg 1080w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-600x750.jpg 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-768x960.jpg 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-640x800.jpg 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-200x250.jpg 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2-1-504x630.jpg 504w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><br />
Faux-sure Fur</h2>
<p>•<strong>Fur-bag Cross-body Purse<br />
</strong>Knit without needles in a double strand of <strong>KnitPicks Fairy Tale Fur</strong>, lined, zipped, and topped off with faux-leather handles, you&#8217;ve met your new favorite, Fur-bag! Get the pattern in my forthcoming book, <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/books/no-needles-knitting/"><strong>No Needles Knitting</strong></a> (Quarry Books, Nov. &#8217;25).&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>•So Fluffy Throw<br />
</strong>Never knit before? No problem! Knitting with your hands is easy, and when you do it using super soft, KnitPicks Fairy Tale fur, it&#8217;s also a sensorial delight. <p>•<strong>Layered Lines Cowl<br />
</strong>Plaid is rad. Full stop. Your knitting can be too, when you make this graphic cowl. Knit in Garter stitch stripes with a mosaic knit edging, the plaid makes its mark woven in by hand. Get the pattern in my shop <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/product/layered-lines-cowl/">HERE</a>, or for free with an accompanying e-Course with a membership to my community, <a href="https://stitchwell-social-club.mn.co/spaces/18075923/content">Stitchwell Social Club</a>.</p>
<p>•<strong>Snow Leopard Bonnet<br />
</strong>The cutest little kitty cat will be your kiddo in the Snow Leopard, knit bonnet. This pattern is from my baby knitwear book, <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/books/wee-garter-stitch/">Wee Garter Stitch</a>, which is out of print, but available online.</p>
<p>•<strong>Striped Infinity Scarf<br />
</strong>I wouldn&#8217;t want to live in a world where black and white stripes ever went out of style. Fortunately, thus far, that hasn&#8217;t happened. The Striped Infinity Scarf is part of the curriculum of my <a href="https://learn.brit.co/courses/intro-to-knitting">Intro to Knitting Class</a> for Brit+Co. It&#8217;s knit in simple, 1&#215;1 rib stitch with <a href="https://www.yarn.com/products/valley-yarns-valley-superwash-super-bulky">Valley Yarns Superwash Super Bulky </a>yarn.&nbsp;The splash of color comes courtesy of one of my shade collaborations, Aqua Oasis.&nbsp;</p>
<p>•<strong>Sunburst Summer Scarf<br />
</strong>A crocheted granny square makes me happy. Add a sunburst motif to it, and it becomes downright delightful. The Sunburst Summer Scarf is crocheted in Mad Tosh Merino Light, making it the perfect weight for the warmer months. Get the pattern on my blog <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/sunburst-summer-scarf/">HERE</a>.</p>

<h2>Hi-Lo Loungewear</h2>
<p>All the cool kids are comfy with this chic, loungewear trend!</p>
<p>•<strong>Greensleeves Jacket<br />
</strong>This zippered piece is inspired by a tracksuit jacket, but with a knitter&#8217;s spin. Greensleeves is one of my designs from <a href="https://vickiehowell.com/books/awareknits/">AwareKnits</a>, the book I co-wrote with Adrienne Armstrong.</p>
<p>•<strong>Starburst Cloud Poncho<br />
</strong>Embrace the coming cold weather and crochet yourself something truly stunning this winter! The Starburst Cloud Poncho is loose and oversized in fit and can be worn as a sweater or layered as a jacket. The pattern and the Spun Cloud yarn it&#8217;s crocheted with can be on the <a href="https://knitcollage.com/vickiehowell">Knit Collage site</a>.&nbsp;<br />

</strong>Here&#8217;s another <a href="https://knitcollage.com/vickiehowell">Knit Collage</a> collab stunner! <h2>Crochet Curlicue Wreath</h2>
<p>Nostalgia gets a new life on a larger scale and with lush, jumbo yarn. This wintery wreath is crocheted using layered, half-double crocheted spirals (you know, those same ones used for clown doll legs in the 70&#8217;s &amp; 80&#8217;s) for a vintage vibe that brings a little kitsch for any holiday sitch.<br />
Have fun and don&#8217;t forget to tag @vickiehowell with #curlicuewreath with your finished wreath!</p>

<p>SMALL VERSION</p>
<p>Scraps of any weight yarn and corresponding size hook</p>
<p>Narrow ribbon</p>
<p>Tapestry needle</p>
<h4>GAUGE</h4>
<p>LARGE: 2 hdc clusters x 4 rows = 4&#8243; / 10 cm</p>
<p>SMALL: Will vary based on yarn and hook choice.</p>
<h4>FINISHED MEASUREMENTS</h4>
<p>LARGE: Approx. 12&#8243; / 30 cm diameter</p>
<p>SMALL: Will vary based on yarn and hook choice.</p>
<h4>NOTE:</h4>
<p>The pattern is written for the LARGE version. To make smaller versions, simply crochet a chain that&#8217;s 2&#8243;-3&#8243; longer than you&#8217;d like the circumference of your wreath to be, PLUS 2 stitches.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1062824 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.png" alt="Crochet Curlicue Wreath" width="600" height="750" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.png 1080w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4-504x630.png 504w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h4>DIRECTIONS (Make 2)</h4>
<p>Crochet a 40&#8243; chain.</p>
<p>Row 1: 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (with chains you&#8217;ll now have 3 hdc in the same space), 3 hdc in every st to end.</p>
<p>Fasten off, leaving a long tail on one of your pieces for seaming.</p>
<p>Curlicues complete!</p>
<p>ASSEMBLY:</p>
<p>Fit both curlicues together so they become one, thicker spiral. Take care to ensure that the individual coils are relatively uniform in size.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Not ready for this project, yet? Bookmark it for when you are!</strong></p>
</blockquote>
<h4>&nbsp;</h4>
<h4>FINISHING</h4>
<p>LARGE</p>
<p>• Cut a piece of wire at least 4&#8243; longer than your piece.</p>
<p>• Insert wire through the center of the entire curlicue; bend piece into a circle; wrap wire ends around itself to secure. Trim wire, if necessary.</p>
<p>• Using fingers and the yarn tail, whipstitch the two curlicue ends together.</p>
<p>• RIBBON BOW: Tie a bow around the sewn portion.</p>
<p>• If hanging, attach a piece of ribbon or twine for a hanger.</p>
<p>OPTIONAL: Sew a Fabric Bow</p>
<p>If you choose to make a fabric bow, I recommend using&nbsp;<a href="https://youtu.be/fynryKHBLCc?si=Dej7dQrM7x4R-lo1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>this tutoria</strong></a>l and template by Rosery Apparel.</p>
<p>Using either a needle and thread or hot glue gun, attach bow over the sewn portion.</p>
<p>SMALL &nbsp;</p>
<p>Work same as for LARGE, excluding wire and fabric bow. Use a tapestry needle instead of fingers, for all yarn weights below bulky.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-1062822 aligncenter" src="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2.png" alt="" width="601" height="751" srcset="https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2.png 1080w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-600x750.png 600w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-819x1024.png 819w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-768x960.png 768w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-640x800.png 640w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-200x250.png 200w, https://vickiehowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/curlicue2-504x630.png 504w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px" /></p>
