First things first. I absolutely hate this "sequel" fever in Bollywood right now. Does anyone even know the meaning of "sequel"? An entirely different movie with no connection with the original movie doesn't become a sequel just 'coz it has same cast as the original. Sometimes even the cast is not same. What's common in Raaz series and Murder series of movies?? These are just ploy to ride on the success of the original. (There might be exceptions where a sequel movie is really a sequel. Example - Dabanng2). Hence, I don't look forward to any 'sequel' movie in Bollywood. Every movie is a new movie.

That said, I had high expectations from the soundtrack of Aashiqui 2. First because of the name (I guess this is why movie makers reuse the name of hit movies and add 2, 3, 4 to those names. 'Coz people expect them to be good). And secondly, songs of Vishesh films' movies are more or less always good. And I'm glad it doesn't disappoint this time too. The songs are good and have beautiful lyrics. The song in the first teaser - "Tum hi ho" was my instant favorite. Then T-Series released this "Love anthem of the year" song - "Sunn raha hai na". I won't go as far as calling it a love anthem; but there's certainly something about this song that feels powerful. I cried couple of times while singing along. There's another song in this album that makes me sob - "Bhula dena mujhe.... Tujhe jina hai mere bina". Guess I'm a sucker for pain.

Back after a long break; to share this beautiful song with you all. Ayushman Khurana's second movie - Nautanki Saala. He's got two songs in it. Loved the first time he sang - Pani Da Rang in Vicky Donor. So, had big expectations from these two songs. "Saddi Gali aaja" and "Tu hi tu" both are nice songs. But better than them is the first song in the album - Mera Mann Kehne Laga, sung by Falak Shabir. The music is so natural (for lack of better word to describe it), you instantly feel like "this is my song".

And now it’s time for the 2nd song of the album “Ekk Deewana Tha”, and the one I like the most (in this album, that is) – Dost Hai Hum Toh (Girl I Loved You). It’s really an English song, with only 2 Hindi lines thrown in between; just like A R Rahman's song Mahiya from SuperHeavy. I like this song mostly 'coz of the groovy music and the lyrics is cool; totally fits someone I knew.

Though very difficult to understand at one or two points. I did a google and was baffled to find that every single lyrics site has got most of the lines wrong. Everyone is hearing "pain i've got" as "made of god"...!! Com'on, that line was pretty clear. At least use some common sense. Nonethless, I too have some confusions in other few lines. (It's in italics in the lyrics box).

When I had first listened to the songs of “Ek Deewana Tha”, I was largely disappointed. Javed Akhtar and A R Rahman came together and this is what they create..!! Any movie that stars Imran Khan is bound to have some nice songs. And if that movie is made by Dharma Productions, rest assured that you are gonna get some peppy music. The soundtrack of “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu” doesn’t disappoint. But there aren’t any awesome tracks either. The only track that I found worth putting up here is the “Aahatein” track.

There are two versions of the song - original and remix. Original is sung by Karthik & Shilpa Rao while the remix version is sung by Shekhar Ravjiani & Shilpa Rao. Oh, and I also tried my voice on both of them. Tried to do a karaoke, with the songs playing in background. All the four tracks are present in the player below. Update: - First posted on 6th July, 2010. Pulling it up, on relevance. Have always loved this song and now that this song defines the stage I am at, it's more meaningful than ever. It's like someone gave words to the pain inside. Singing this song soothes me a little bit, while a silent lonely tear drop finds its way from corner of the eye to the tip of chin.

When you are talking about the music of a Dharma production movie, you can be rest assured that it is going to be great. The first song that started airing for the latest movie from their stable - “I hate LUV storys”, starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor – ‘Jab mila tu’ was instant hit. And then ‘Bin Tere’ was shown. This is indeed a good song. But you ain’t heard nothing if you haven’t heard the Reprise version of the same. Shekhar Ravijiani sung it superbly and not once do you feel any disconnect. And the only instrument used in this whole song is an acoustic guitar. Last song where just an acoustic guitar created such a magic was ‘Dard-e-Tanhai’ of Jashnn.

I listened to this song on my laptop on repeat mode for an hour or so yesterday. And then transferred it to my cell and listened to it while I drifted into sleep. It’s just a magical number. Wanna give a big hug to every one associated with the making of this piece. @kjohar25, @1mrankhan, @sonamakapoor.. and the whole team. A big Thumbs Up to you all.

Frankly, I didn't have much expectations from this album - Players, an Abbas-Mustan movie. And I was kinda surprised to find its songs aren't that bad. In fact, couple of them are good. The first 4 tracks are just alright. But track 5 & 6 are the stars of this album. Track 5 is "Dil Ye Bekarar Kyun Hai" which has 3 versions and track 6 is "Kyun Dooriyan (Jhoom Jhoom Ta Hun Main)", which has another 'film version'. This is the one I like most in this album. Listen to it and you'll find your feet tapping.

Now that you’ve checked out I’m dog gone crazy from “Action replayy”, time to check out “Don’t worry about me” from Imran Khan [@1mrankhan], Deepika Padukone [@deepikapadukone] starer “Break Ke Baad”.

To begin with, this song deals with situation after a break-up. But surprisingly and refreshingly, there’s no sadness in it. No rona-dhona, no drama. Yea, the guy is hurt that it is over but he’s looking forward to the future. Unconventional way of dealing with such a situation in a Bollywood song. Like it. Vishal Dadlani rocks this one.

Poem: Phir Ek Cigarette Jala Raha Hu

When a heart breaks, the pain it causes can't be described in words. And no one can soothe the ache. Different people deal with it in different ways. Some take up drinking, some smoke, some cut themselves and some do something extreme; all in the hope that the resulting damage/suffering will numb the pain in their heart. But - it's like lighting a match to outshine a midday sun.

Disclaimer first off - this is not an entirely original poem. Saw a poem on the facebook page of Mera beta engineer banega. Yea, funny name. This page mostly posts jokes. But once in a while, there are meaningful and heart touching stuff there. Like that poem.

Anyway, I changed the lines here and there. And when I was translating the finished poem, as I post English translation of all the stuff I post on this blog, the literal translation was lacking the feel of the original. Hence instead of translating, created English version of the poem. Compare the Hindi and English versions and let me know which one you like better.

फिर एक सिगरेट जला रहा हु,

Poem: Dil Aakhir Tu Kyu Rota Hai

This weekend has been particularly tough on me. But in retrospect, guess whatever happened, happened for the best. Learnt a valuable lesson. Some pent up emotions got a release and now am all better. Probably will take some more time to totally 'get back on my feet' but that is to be expected after being invested in someone so deeply.

There's this short poem of Javed Akhtar from "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which I listen to quite often. There are lot of 'Inspirational Quotes' floating around in the cyberspace. I don't pay much attention to them. But this one poem, it is like my life mantra. Life is explained so beautifully in it. You simply can't not love it. If you are heartbroken, if you are feeling blue and want someone to hold you or tell you that "it's gonna be alright", just listen to this. Works better than a charm. Every time.

Poem: In Your Arms Tonight

Alright, so after Wo kehte hai, here's my second poem. A thought/sentence* was circling in my mind for a few days. Thought of turning it into a short, 4 line poem yesterday. But on way to reach this line, previous lines kept coming up and by dawn today, it was a full-blown ballad. :P

There's a dialogue in Ranbir Kapoor's next movie "Rockstar" -

Tuute huwe dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai

meaning "Music is born in a broken heart only". Well, I had my share of heartbreaks in the past. But never did I belch poems and shayaris in the past... But this time, just a little wound, and I'm spilling my heart & guts in them. Wonder what will happen if this one ends up in a heartbreak. Hope not. I want this to work.

Anyway, here's the poem -

I look back at the day I confessed

and I wonder whether I did right.

I was all alone, living a lonely life.

You brought colors, you brought light.

Talking to you made my days,

making you laugh made me smile.

Months passed like minutes,

before I knew, it's been a while.



Said I can't be just friends, I wanted more.

Said how much I like you, said how I adore.

When you said you too like me, 

   I couldn't believe my ears.

I was happy beyond all means, 

   but I also had my fears.

Did you like me the way I did or were you just playing?

Turned out I was more of an imposition,

I was the fool who thought relationship is about 

   good times or bad, always sharing.



We fight, we don't talk; still I think of you 24x7

I wonder what you are doing, if you are missing me, 

or thinking of me even.

I try to hold myself, console myself -

   "maybe it wasn't meant to be".

But when you make that call to patch things up, 

   I believe you are the one, you are "she".



Last we said we'll give it one more try;

I wanna make this work at any cost.

'Coz you are a part of me now, meaning of my life.

Without you, I'm nothing, everything is lost.
