The developers behind the Worms series, Team 17, are working on reviving the classic PC series Alien Breed.

Entitled Alien Breed Evolution, the new game is an isometric shooter that is created using Unreal Engine 3. The game will be distributed via digital download although how exactly or what platforms has yet to be announced.

The game was originally a PC series so I’d say that Steam is a given, but hopefully the game will also arrive on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network or WiiWare.

Previously the series, which is heavily inspired by the Alien movies, almost got a new installment with a PS2 version called Alien Breed 2K4. That game was eventually cancelled however and never released after Team 17 failed to secure a publisher. But thanks to the wide world of digital download, things are a lot easier than they once were.

Good for us indeed.

Western-RPG DS owners are about to get some love with Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain thanks to publisher Aspyr Media.

The game is based on a popular British Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book series of the same title although the game has an all-new storyline co-created by series writers Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson.

The game is a linear adventure however, unlike a lot of recent Western RPGs, which flies in the face of the novel’s style. The story tells of a lone adventurer on his travels through the old Dwarven keep within Firetop Mountain. And like most other Western RPGs the focus will be on exploring fantasy dungeons and collecting loot.

However the game looks quite gorgeous on the tiny DS screens and runs at a solid 60 frames-per-second, which is impressive for the handheld. The game will be released here in the U.S. some time this holiday.

This was revealed in an announcement by developer Blueside.

Blueside also confirmed that the game will be coming to the Xbox 360. Apparently PS3 gamers won’t be getting the title though which was previously known to be coming to “consoles” but which systems weren’t specified.

Details on the sequel are hard to come by, but in addition to having a single player campaign it will also include a multiplayer RTS MMO-style mode which should definitely have fans excited, as the developers promise it is a one-of-a-kind mode on a gargantuan scale.

Storyline
Kingdom Under Fire 2 is set approximately 150 years after the events depicted in Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders. The game marks the return of The Human Alliance and Dark Legion with an added faction called the Encablossians - whose aim is to reassert the cycle of light and dark ages by destroying the current Age of Light, which has already run far beyond its natural course.

This faction is led by Regnier (from previous Kingdom Under Fire titles) who allied himself with Encablossa during the time he was stranded in the Dark Dimension (as depicted in Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom). Whilst other heroes from previous titles may return, including Kendal who in the Dark Dimension underwent a mutation, but is able to control himself still. He is now out to stop Regneir being the only person powerful enough to stop him due to his mutation. The game will also feature a brand new cast of playable characters.

But the biggest news for LittleBigPlanet fans will be the upcoming new features that are coming to the game.

To quote the interview from GamesIndustry.biz:

Question: You’ve already got 2 million levels that people have created, so maybe that’s the answer to this question - but would you like to see even more accessible tools for people in the game?

Alex Evans: Yeah, I would have liked to have made it better. We originally started with a shotgun and a hair dryer, and it mutated a lot… One of the things we’re focusing on next is looking at stuff that insane - generally French and Japanese - people have built, and then making that more accessible, just making some of the ideas that are possible, easier.

The second side of it is that at the moment you can exchange objects via PSN messages. One of the original ideas that was axed from the original game was that you could publish objects from the game online, not just levels, and you’d be credited with the use of those objects.

I think something like that will really boost it - if you’re just a beginner user, you can go and browse not just for levels, but for cars, let’s say. Take that, sticker it up, and you’re done - and that will change the barriers to entry.

So both of those things - changing the tools themselves, and changing how you share - are coming.

Electronic Arts Mobile are bringing a brand new Command & Conquer: Red Alert RTS game to the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s not a remake of the original Red Alert, but rather a completely unique game that seems to mix Red Alert 2 and 3.

First shown at E3 2009 where it was said to launch in late summer, but the latest episode of BattleCast Prime gives a demo of the game in action and states an expected Fall 2009 release window.

Here’s a list of notable facts:
* There will be both Allied and Soviet campaigns.
* The game features Construction Yard gameplay mechanics.
* It has 3D graphics, similar to Red Alert 3 and reminiscent of C&C N64. Everything is detailed and well animated.
* It’s not a straight port of any single Red Alert game. It appears to be a cross between Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3.
* The Unit grouping, Zooming in & out, Mini-map, and Sidebar combinations are working well.
* The Soviet architecture resembles RA2, with Tesla Reactors and RA2 Barracks shown, yet War Bears from RA3 appear as well.

A new exclusive look at Red Alert for iPhone, 3:27 minutes into BattleCast Prime Episode 20:

All I have to say is “Finally!” I’ve been waiting since the 2004 release of the Nintendo DS for EA to release a touch screen-enabled C&C game. It’s even better on iPhone with a bigger screen and multi-touch interface.

Free World of Warcarft? WoW for no money a day? Believe.

In a recent interview, Tom Chilton of Blizzard stated that the “free-to-play” model is a definite possibility for the worlds biggest MMORPG. Currently the game is pay-to-play and has millions of subscribers.

To quote from the interview:

VideoGamer.com: Will WoW always be subscription based? Could it ever have a micro-transaction/free-to-play model?

Tom Chilton: I certainly think it’s possible that we could do some kind of micro-transaction stuff. Whether or not World of Warcraft ever goes the direction of, I guess like Anarchy Online has gone the direction of going free-to-play with micro-transactions. Whether we ever shift to a free-to-play model is really too hard to say at this point. Anything I say now could easily five years from now end up seeming like, oh my gosh, that was an incredibly dumb thing to say, how naive!

The first footage of Halo Reach has been revealed in very early form via a demo reel that was posted online.

The web-site claims that the reel is 100% legitimate, although the video has since been taken down.

In the 14 seconds of animation by Bungie employee Will Christiansen, you can see an interesting animation that shows a soldier sneaking up on a Jackal, then smashing him with the end of his battle rifle. He then shoots him before following up with a punch. The next clip showed a dying scene of a soldier who has been injured in the midst of combat.

Sadly you can no longer see the video of the demo real. But you can check out some Halo Reach demo reel screenshots.

Quan Chi and Harley Quinn character DLC was planned for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe according to series creator Ed Boon, but will most likely never be released.

Above you can see a very nice render of Quan Chi in MK vs DC:U. He is looking quite good. Sadly even though the characters were finished and originally were planned for release as downloadable content, Midway’s complicated legal life has pretty much scrapped those plans. Unless new Midway owner Warner Bros. Interactive chooses to release them.

That isn’t likely though as the MK team is currently focused on the next big title in the series, Mortal Kombat 9.

Too bad. The character looks good. Hopefully he’ll also release images of Harley Quinn.

Game revealed via teaser video" title=Mechwarrior 5 screenshot. Game revealed via teaser video" class="float-left" style="margin:0px" />
MechWarrior 5 has been officially revealed!!!!!!!!

This is thanks to all-new teaser trailers that were posted on youtube from Piranha Games. This will be the first all-new installment in the mech combat series since the last game, Mechwarrior 4, was released way back in 2000!

No other information was released on the game including platforms or an “official” announcement. Update: Series co-creator Jordan Weisman has confirmed the game for both PC and Xbox 360. Simply titled MechWarrior, it’s in development at Piranha Games (of Transformers 2 game fame) and Smith & Tinker. The game is being developed using the Unreal Engine 3, but still maintains the “action sim” style of past games.

The game is to feature a cooperative mode with up to four players, multiplayer modes with ranks comparible to Call of Duty. They’re aiming for cross-platform play between all modes.

Here are the three teaser trailers for MechWarrior 5!

Echoshift has been trademarked as a possible sequel to Echochrome.

The trademark is by Sony Computer Entertainment America. Although we don’t know exactly what it is, it could possibly be Echochrome 2 given the prefix assigned to the name.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced and absolutely no details were revealed. Still it wouldn’t be surprising as the game was kind of a PlayStation Network cult-hit.

Echochrome, if you haven’t heard of it, is an interesting puzzle game whose gameplay involves a mannequin figure that must traverse a rotatable world where physics and reality depend on perspective. For example, by shifting the landscape left or right, lines may align that create a platform, or a hole, that wasn’t there originally. This is used to solve the puzzles in the game and to reach the exit of the stage. The game was developed by Sony’s Japan Studio and is inspired by M. C. Escher’s artwork.

The announcement from developer Deep Silver and Ascaron’s Studio II will include “new features and lots of extra gaming hours”. It will also introduce players to a new character called the “Dragonmage”.

And of course, like any good expansion, it will also include new quests, two new areas, new enemies and new items for each of the game’s characters.

No word on whether this is a PC-only expansion, but I’ll bet that it will also be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Cause releasing it only on the PC simply wouldn’t make much sense.

FIFA 10 is the next installment in EA Sports’ popular football franchise. It will be released on October 20th in the US (Oct. 2nd in Europe) for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, DS, Wii, PSP and PS2.

On the pitch, critical gameplay fundamentals have been enhanced, providing more sophisticated ball control, and physical interaction between players. In addition, players now move, behave and position themselves more realistically.

On attack, players analyze space more effectively, curve their runs in an attempt to stay onside, create passing lanes naturally, and drive for more variety in attacking options. On defense, new concepts like position priority enable defenders to multitask so dangerous spaces left open by teammates out of position are covered.

Here is a list of the new features in FIFA 10:

* Manager Mode has had many issues addressed. Building a team to 5 stars will be much harder. The experience points system has been improved, pre-season friendlies are now organised by your assistant manager, a HUB screen has replaced the message system, you can now edit kit numbers, and the staff upgrades have been tweaked, you can get updates from other teams around the world (Total Football Experience), the player growth is revamped, the atmosphere is different with rival teams.

* Ball physics have again been refined and improved from FIFA 09.

* To extend the realism of the gameplay, the defensive line in matches will generally be positioned deeper, to prevent attacks having an unfair edge.

* General gameplay has been improved as it has been every year. This year, A.I., goalkeeping, positioning, defending, physical play, and set pieces have been improved from last year’s game.

* “360° Dribbling System”: The first-ever true 360° dribbling system in a football game gives you precise control to skillfully play spaces between defenders that previously were not possible.

* “Improved Urgency AI Logic”: With over 50 new movement cycles, improved urgency AI logic delivers more responsive positioning so the players stay focused on the ball and move at a speed appropriate to the action.

* “Improved Trapping Intelligence”: Players now have a better awareness of where the easiest, most natural trapping position is so they can get the ball on the ground and under control easier and earlier.

Among lots of other new features like cold days (including snow), new crowd effects, a new training mode, 23 new celebrations, and a new four-player arena mode called “Anything Goes”. There will also be additional downloadable content for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2010 is the next installment in Konami’s popular soccer simulation series. It will release on October 23rd for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP and PC. Although some retailers have it listed as October 2nd, which would put it day and date with PES’ biggest rival, EA Sports FIFA 10. A Wii version is also coming.

Konami promises that “every element” of the game is being improved in this new version as they strive to create “the most realistic football simulation available.”

PES 2010’s new visual realism brings the beautiful game to vivid life, with unique skin textures for individual players, and a level of detail that allows users to see the different weaves used in the various kits, their animated faces, and even the hairs on their arms! The game also boasts an all-new dynamic lighting system, wherein shadows are cast in real-time, creating a photo-realistic look to the new game.

At the center of PES 2010, however, is an amazingly close representation of the pace and skill of top-level football. The PES Productions team has worked to recreate the pace and tactical approach of a top-flight game, with mature skill and vision needed to create space and scoring opportunities. No longer can users score soft goals via overly-familiar means, instead PES 2010 counters such play and constantly forces the user to spread the ball around as they would in a real match.

To this end, an all-new tactical system has been implemented. A new ‘Power Gauge’ system features an easy-to-use sliding bar system with several categories; half for defence, and the others for attacking play. These allow users to change their overall style of play with ease, and adopt strategies related to support for the player in possession, the space players leave each other, how often players change position, and the pressure put on the opposition when they have the ball.

It’s also interesting to note that this will be the first Konami game that supports online play without using the Konami ID system. So just connect and play. The servers this time around will also be maintained by Microsoft and Sony respectively (and I assume Nintendo for the Wii version if that version includes online play) instead of by Konami themselves.

Here is the debut trailer for the new footy game.

Martial Arts: Capoeira is the newest title from “award-winning motion capture company” Animazoo and developer Twelve Interactive. The game will be released in Q4 2009 for Wii, PS2, PSP, DS and PC from publisher Graffiti Entertainment.

The low-budget (judging by the video below) fighting game is based entirely on the martial arts style of Capoeira and features motion capture by Capoeira champions Soluna, Rome’s foremost Capoeira group.

“This is the first time the inertial gyroscopic system has been used to capture data from capoeira,” said Ali Kord, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Animazoo. “It is notoriously difficult to capture capoeira due to the fast-paced twisting, turning and regular movement off the ground. Yet we managed to achieve this accurately, without occlusion.”

Much of the animation in the day was taken via a two-day motion-capture shoot took place in Rome. Over 200 shots were captured, which will generate over 1,500 in-game shots. The scenes included challenging jumps from standing - showing no effort from the legs – as well as leaps and high kicks. The three actors were of varying body sizes from light to heavy weight and included two men and one woman. The latest Animazoo IGS-190 H, a 32 sensor hybrid system, was used to capture the data.

“It has been very intensive but what this session will contribute to the game in terms of range of movement and realism is invaluable,” comments Giuseppe Crugliano, Managing Director of Twelve Interactive. “Martial Arts: Capoeira is a unique game drawing on a very original fighting form, with the help of Animazoo’s award winning technology and the expertise of Soluna it is totally living up to our expectations.”

Here is a video of the game in action. Impressed?
