From graduation day….

I knew you could do it Jessica! Congratulations!

For the first time on the blog- my brother, James and his wife, Romina.

We had a chunk of time to kill before the ceremony began so once Lisa was all ready we headed out to the balcony to get some fun shots. It really was a gorgeous day despite the torrential rain we had the day before.

While I was with the ladies, James and the guys were holed up across the hall with explicit instructions to not look out any windows…or else!

As the ceremony time approached it seemed the weather wasn’t going to cooperate. Fingers were crossed that the impending rain would hold off until after the ceremony and when the guests were safely inside the Artisan Ballroom.

Lisa made it down the aisle but not soon after the ceremony started so did the rain. In an organized rush all the guests and the Barr Mansion staff made a beeline for the Ballroom. Kudos to Abby and her team for their quick response and resetting the Ballroom to accommodate everyone. Once settled, the ceremony picked up where it left off.

Lisa and Jake were the best through the whole situation. A little rain wasn’t going to ruin their wedding day.

I really love the colors Lisa chose- the deep purple with the contrasting white and green were beautiful- especially against this backdrop.

The last time we did a group photo like this it was 1988 and believe me it looked quite different. A lot of the same people are here but older and a few are missing. Having the opportunity to do it again and making sure it happened was so important. A few weeks after this was taken one of my aunts passed away.

As a photographer I cannot stress how important family photos, events and memories are- whether you hire someone to take them for you or set up the camera on a tripod. You never know when your next opportunity will come along. Seize the memory.

I am so glad today is here and I can finally share these with you. Laura is a gorgeous bride!

This has to be one of my favorites from the day. The wind was against us for most of the session but not in this instance. It’s so Gone with the Wind. I’d love to see it on canvas really big.

These are my two favorite shots from inside the admin building. Love the windows and the light.

The wind was crazy strong during a couple shots we did on this landing. We both almost blew away. This one just says “Super Model” to me though.

We had a bit of ‘fun’ while at St. Ed’s. It seems we may have been reported and two APD officers approached us asking if we had permission to shoot there, were students, etc. Now we had shot at St. Ed’s before without issues so this was a bit of a surprise. We agreed to wait outside the admin building until their superior could be contacted to see if it was indeed ok for us to shoot there or not. At this point we had already been there a good while so I wasn’t too concerned if they kicked us out- we’d already gotten some good stuff. It didn’t come to that though- it was ok for us to be there so we did a few more shots then headed downtown.

The past couple times we’ve been out to her house for a session she’s been a bit wary of us – until it’s time for us to leave! For this session there was a lot of bribing with her favorite wagon wheels and cupcake icing.

These have to be my favorite from the session. The dress she is wearing was worn by her mom and her aunt when they had their 1 year photos taken. What a special heirloom.

Like I said Lori and Allan are a lot of fun so I was anticipating our session- no nerves at all even though I was flying solo on this one until James showed up (he was helping a friend move). We started out at the Riverside Park. It was a windy day, overcast and a bit humid.

They also brought along Lori’s dog, Sadie who adores Allan.

From Riverside Park we headed across the street to Auditorium Shores for some skyline and then onto some train tracks. I thought it would be great to incorporate the tracks since Allan is a model train enthusiast.

We finished up the morning at Roadside Relics on South First. James had joined us by this time and he took over after I did a few mural shots. So fun! Loved how they all came out.

We had a blast guys and can’t wait for November.

We didn’t know either one of them very well but in the short time we spent with them on  that Sunday we saw just how special they were and loved how sweet their relationship was. You could tell James adored Sima and loved to take care of her and Sima only had eyes for James.

I arrived just in time to get a few final shots of Sima as she finished getting ready. What a beautiful bride!

There were actually two parts to their ceremony- a traditional ceremony followed by a Persian ceremony to honor Sima’s heritage. There were so many different things going on during the second ceremony, James and I were never sure where to point our cameras! It was our first Persian ceremony so we were intrigued.

My favorite part was the butterfly release. No one knew what to expect so all the oohs and aahs were great. What a beautiful moment.

This was the start of the Persian ceremony. The table in front of them as well as the canopy held by friends and family held so much symbolism and meaning.

Sima and James, the love you have for each other shines in your eyes. May you have many happy years together. It was a pleasure spending the afternoon with you both. All the best!
