We&#8217;ll hear from The Weird Circle and an episode titled The Wooden Ghost. This episode was based on the short story Strange Event In The Life Of Schalken The Painter, first published in Dublin University Magazine in 1839. The story would go on to be included in two short story collections beginning with a revised version printed in Ghost Stories And Tales Of Mystery from 1851, and an 1880 collection titled The Purcell Papers.</p>

You may remember this story from the 1963 movie Twice Told Tales, which featured three Hawthorne stories, all starring Vincent Price. This radio adaptation first aired May 15, 1948.</p>

Like with most of Poe&#8217;s stories on radio, it not only had been done many times but added to as well. I found four different versions, though more are probably out there, and chose one from <strong>The Weird Circle</strong>. This version first aired in January of 1944. Poe&#8217;s short story was first published in <em>The Pioneer</em> magazine in January of 1843.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On the show this week, we&#8217;ll hear an old time radio version of <strong>The Signal-Man</strong> by Charles Dickens.  This short story was originally published as part of the Mugby Junction collection in the 1866 edition of All The Year Round, a literary magazine owned and edited by Dickens.</p>
<p>The version of the story we&#8217;ll hear is from Suspense, and is the third of three produced for the show.  This one aired February 15, 1959.  As you&#8217;ll hear at the beginning Suspense tweaked the story a bit, but the end result is quite good I think!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I got an email from Dale the other day asking about a radio version of Edgar Allen Poe&#8217;s <em>The Masque Of The Red Death</em>.  The only version I was able to find was done by <strong>CBS Radio Mystery Theater</strong> in the early 1970&#8242;s.  This version is a variation on the original.  It takes place in the 1990&#8242;s and is more based on the original, than being a literal version of it.  I&#8217;m not crazy about updated versions, but I&#8217;ll let you decide on this one!</p>
