Last week I spent some enjoyable time talking 70’s fashion with a customer. She brought several things in to sell and she could remember where and when she wore them.

I do believe that for most woman clothing represents the history of our lives. An article of clothing can take you right back so clearly you can hear the music and smell the smells you experienced when you wore it.

The pictures are of this customer wearing her red velvet long dress about 1971. The other photo is her in Germany wearing a pair of printed, high waisted pants in an overall style with straps. The print is classic 70’s. These 2 items are currently available in the shop.

She brought many other things such as tall suede boots, black, laced and embroidered boots, a fab pair of embroidered bell bottoms purchased in Gr. Britain on Carnaby St. She also brought some great authentic 70’s platform wedge shoes. The black pants and groovy fringed vest are already sold, as are the rust, suede shoes.

Oh yes, I forgot there is also a fab velvet and tapestry shoulder bag available. It’s always fun to talk vintage clothing with customers!

Pictures will be posted soon

Please check out all the girl’s pictures , as they all looked adorable!

It’s been a busy few weeks here at the shop as several local dances had retro or Hollywood themes and I had the pleasure of watching these young ladies discover all these beautiful vintage garments.

Check out Meredith’s 1940’s era red mink stole, which complimented her hair. These girls looked like they were ready for the red carpet and I know they had a wonderful time at the dance.

We are proud to announce that Vintage JoAnn is now home to a new cat. Her name is Ellie, we also call her Ellie Mae. She’s just a few years old and a lovely fluffy black and white. Gorgeous green eyes.

She is settling in very nicely but she doesn’t care for our little Bichon, Ziggy. Who could blame her as Ziggy has been rather rude. When she’s had enough of him she retreats to the basement. Ziggy is afraid to go down the basement steps for some reason!?

As soon as she gets her bearings and grows in confidence she will soon be hanging around the shop more. She really is quite affectionette and loves to be petted and brushed. Ellie is very feminine and has little dainty feet compared to our late departed, and greatly missed Ozzie.
Oz was so huge and galumphed around the place with those huge feet of his.

Anyhow, Ellie Mae is a lovely addition to Vintage JoAnn. Stop in and see her soon!

We have outfitted folks to look like Marilyn Monroe and other glam stars, cowboys, disco queens, flappers, 50’s housewives, hippies, goth princess, and many, many more. I am always amazed at how original and creative people can be!

Lots of autumn colors are in, gorgeous fall hats, wool, velvet, fur, and lots of cozy stuff now that the weather has turned cool. I think I am doing the 50’s thing this year as I have a black polka dot circle skirt and a full red criniline, and authentic saddle shoes. This time of year makes me feel like a kid again!!

See you at the hop!

Every day is an adventure at Vintage JoAnn as I never know who or what is going to come strolling through my door. Today a good friend stopped by and dropped off a load of the most bodacious men’s 1970’s shirts. Cotton and polyester, long pointy collars, tapered fit, from an era when some men’s clothing rivaled woman’s in outragousness.

Retro prints galore, takes you back to those disco nights. I grew to adulthood in the 70’s and remember when…

The guys in my high school and my boyfriend (future husband) sported these beauties worn tight with several upper buttons undone with their bell bottomed pants which were often cuffed and usually dragging on the ground over big chunky boots and shoes with platforms.

My hubby never sported the platforms but he did rock the rest. Also in his defence, he never sucumbed to the leisure suit fad, although my brother in law’s graduation picture shows him wearing a particularly fetching baby blue polyester one.

Oh, and of course don’t forget that the really cool guys had rather longish hair then, cut in feathered shags that went past their collars. Facial hair was big too, with big bushy mustaches and long sideburns,

I even remember some of the younger teachers in my high school looking like this. Oh My…..

Anyhow , all you groovey guys out there who need duds for your 70’s party or who just like to keep your friends on edge with your cool vintage clothing, We have quite a offering for you.

Oh great, now I have a bee gees song in my head that won’t GO AWAY!

Everyone has been hat crazy lately. I think a lot of folks long for that part of the fashion past as very romantic and stylish.

I’m seeing more and more ladies from all age groups buying and wearing these beautiful creations from the past as a way to show their individual style. I personally love hats from all eras and would wear more but I have a humongous head and few fit. I’ve met a few other people with this issue and find the headband types sometimes fit. I prefer the feathered ones myself.

I sometimes sport a rather audatious red feathered number that curves a spray of crimson feathers around my chubby cheek.
In the last week I have purchased around 52 hats from 2 different sellers. I had a ball going through them and displaying them! All price ranges are included, ranging from 90 dollars to 7 dollars. Shiapperelli, Dior, and other designers are included. Many of these beauties were purchased from famous
department stores in N.Y. during the 50’s and 60’s. There are also some 40’s ones. Wool. straw. and many materials and lovely trims, including flowers, cherries, and feathers.

I also recently put out some more men’s hats , fedora types, caps and others which will be fabulous for fall for men or you ladies.

I am actively buying for autumn now and have put out a extensive array of coats for your enjoyment.

Many of the hats I have for winter are various furs from the 50’s to the 70’s. Very glamorous and warm.

I don’t wear or sell new fur but don’t have a problem selling these that are 40, 50 yrs, old. I think it shows more respect for the animal then throwing it in a landfill, but we respect all viewpoints at Vintage JoAnn.

Come in soon and try on a hat! View more hats here: http://www.vintagejoann.com/photo-gallery/?lzkfile=Hats%2F

Wow. What a day.
We were packed!
I hope the street fair was as great for the other local bus. owners as it was here.

We set up a tent and display in front of the store which my sister in law Becky manned and had loads of clearance items as well as new inventory. I had the store packed with great vintage fashion.

I had sent out a coupon to all my regulars that entered their info in my guest book and advertised.

We sold from 8:30 in the am until almost 4:30.
