Bimhuis and Viral Radio present Hyperrhythm

After last weekend’s incredible Viral Radio Festival with Ras G, Knalpot and Pierre Bastien, on 21 October Bimhuis and Viral Radio will go at it again. During the Amsterdam Dance Event on 21 October, they will present the second edition of Hyperrhythm: new electronic music composed in realtime. This is the follow-up to the acclaimed Hyperrhythm programme at this year’s North Sea Jazz festival. Artists that performed there were Dimlite, Hudson Mohawke, Dorian Concept and Mike Slott.

In this edition of Hyperrhythm, Berlin’s visionary Oval (Thrilljockey), Tromsø’s imaginative Phonophani (Rune Grammofon) and New York’s herald of change Mike Slott (Lucky Me) will present new work.

Oval is one of the seminal figures of turn of the century electronic music. He has recently released his first material since 2001, where he has upgraded his signature compositional apparatus of software and sound manipulation by adding acoustic drums and guitar. His return to the stage is highly anticipated.

Phonophani is the solo project of Espen Sommer Eide of Alog. This Norwegian band of DIY craftsmanship and musical ingenuity has played at the Bimhuis and Lantaren/Venster in 2007. Phonophani has released albums on Rune Grammofon, and has collaborated with Biosphere and Pierre Bastien amongst others. We are very proud that his Bimhuis performance is his solo debut in the Netherlands.

Mike Slott made his debut at the Bimhuis alongside Dimlite and Take during Beat Dimensions at the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2008. He is the son of a jazz promoter and the musical sibling of Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and American Men. His set was one of the highlights of North Sea Jazz.

Viral Radio agent Juha will set up the perimeter with echoes from our sonic future. This will be a night for those who enjoy listening to David Sylvian, Hudson Mohawke and Christian Fennesz driving at 100 MPH with the windows down.

Thanks everyone for making this the most memorable festival of this year for us – we didn’t think it was possible after Exit, North Sea Jazz and Appelsap. We are incredibly happy to have had two successful nights, with over 1.500 passionate listeners and 11 artists with different musical identities in two of Amsterdam’s most incredible music venues.

Viral Radio wants to tie together different threads of electronic music that might not be heard in the same place or event otherwise. Thank you all making this happen, and thanks to all the artists for their incredible performances. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The Viral Radio Festival 2010 consists of two days. Last night Viral Radio presented Gonjasufi & Gaslamp Killer with Aardvarck & Juha at Trouw, and Lockdown in De Verdieping with Ikonika, LD, Cinnaman and Plus. The night sold out with 1.200 visitors. Tonight is the second and final day of the festival, with ghetto sci-fi by Ras G (Brainfeeder, Los Angeles), Knalpot’s improvised rock that is floating somewhere in between Fennesz, Jonny Greenwood and Dimlite, and an army of music machines directed by French composer Pierre Bastien. Tickets can be bought at the door for 14 euros. We look forward to seeing you here tonight.

Day 2 of the Viral Radio Festival takes place at the Bimhuis, one of the world’s most renowned spaces for jazz and improvised music. In recent years Viral Radio presented Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept and Kode9 & the Spaceape in this beautiful spaceship, with a transparent backdrop with a view over the city. Saturday’s programme consists of Ras G, Knalpot and Pierre Bastien.
