We have regrettably decided to discontinue the firmness options of Super Soft and Soft Flexi Sleep mattresses to make room for some new exciting mattresses to be released in the new year.

We are however providing the Flexi Sleep in Regular, Firm or Super firm

Please ensure that trade partners remove these options from the inventory in standard and EU sizes.

Since 2010, we have been developing our own selection of UK made headboards that prove to be unique and hugely popular with customers.

New for 2014, we will be updating our selection to include more headboard designs, more fabric options and more colours variations giving customers the opportunity to tailor the headboard the way they want it for their bedroom.

We have over 800 new headboard variations and over 300 headboard variations to be added to existing range which are all still UK manufactured by our in house team. Check below for more information on these headboards!

New Style Headboards

Balmoral

The Balmoral Headboard is a contemporary headboard offset with stylish studding. The headboard is beautifully finished with Linoso fabric; a fine linen-look textured fabric that is available in a range of colours.

Berkeley Small and Berkeley Tall

The Berkeley Headboard (tall version) adds a touch of retro to your bedroom by bringing a smooth, classic style and reminding you of days gone by. This headboard is available in either Faux Suede or Linoso fabric in a range of colours.

Candelaria

The Candelaria headboard offers a classical and contemporary design to make the headboard an elegant choice for your bedroom. The Candelaria headboard is available in faux suede or smooth PU leather with a range colours to ensure there is a Candelaria to match your bedroom.

Concordia

The Concordia Headboard takes a simple approach to style and, frankly, makes it work. With a vast range of colour and fabrics, you will easily be able to find a Concordia headboard to suit your bedroom.

This product is available in smooth PU leather, Linoso linen-type fabric and faux suede.

Curve

This item is replacing the Lily, Jack and Sam headboard. The design is the same however we are adding new colours and giving it a new name to the range.

The Curve Headboard is an upholstered based headboard using a soft cotton fabric which is available in a range of colours. Made from chipboard, this headboard is sturdy but thanks to a layer of foam, it is comfortable to just lean against.

Diamante

The Diamante Headboard exudes glamour with a stylish and modern crystal-style buttons and sumptuous padding, this headboard will not only make you feel special but it’ll give you a superb night’s sleep too.

This headboard is available in our Maurice chenille-type fabric in a range of colours.

Knightsbridge

The Knightsbridge Headboard is a contemporary headboard offset with stylish studding around the edges. The headboard is beautifully finished with Linoso fabric; a fine linen-look textured fabric that is available in a range of colours.

Lisbon

The Lisbon headboard is beautifully upholstered in a fantastic variety of fabrics and colours. Its overall design emphasizes simplicity, subtlety and elegance. The Lisbon is made to last as it is crafted onto a sturdy frame by straight strong seams. The Lisbon headboard is strongly recommended for a contemporary bedroom.

This headboard is available in either cotton, linoso linen-type fabric or faux suede in a range of colours.

Richmond

The Richmond Headboard is a contemporary headboard offset with stylish studding around the edges. The headboard is beautifully finished with Linoso fabric; a fine linen-look textured fabric that is available in a range of colours.

Rosario

Bold and sleek, the Rosario is minimalistic headboard that is perfect for a modern bedroom interior. This high quality headboard is fully upholstered onto a durable frame and is available in faux suede and smooth PU leather in a range of colours to suit your bedroom.

Simoca

The Simoca headboard is proof that style and simplicity are not mutually exclusive; the headboard effortlessly adds contemporary style to your bedroom while allowing you to tailor the product in either faux suede or smooth PU leather in a choice of colours.

Valencia

The Valencia Headboard is great for those looking for simplicity and style as it combines a snake style PU leather layer offset in parchment colour with our luscious jumbo cord Ocean fabric. The Valencia Headboard boasts tall profile that is sure to make your bed, the focal point of your bedroom and the Ocean fabric is available in a range of colours.

Zapala

The Zapala headboard epitomises both style and simplicity, two things that customers love. The headboard is available in two distinct fabrics; faux suede and smooth PU leather, both which come in a selection of colours that allow you to tailor this product in a way that suits you.

Product Refresh On Selected Bean Bag Lines for January 2014 Now Live

Back in July 2012 we released our range of stylish bean bags to the UK market and since then we have expanded the Bonkers range and seen them to become hugely popular (increasingly so in the holiday periods as gifts!).

We pride our selves in providing a wide choice of different styles, fabrics and colours which customers seem to love, however, in an effort to fine tune our production lines and improve on our overal quality, we are refreshing 4 of our original bean bag lines for 2014.

The products are the Baby Bean Chair, Gamer Bean Bag, Kicky Bean Bag and the Round About Bean Chair.

These lines will still be sold however the design will be refreshed to exclude the white fabric, leaving the bean bag to be a solid colour of our original listed choices. This makes a much more practical style of bean bag.

This refresh is now live as of today (Monday 20th Jan 2014).

Following the recent documentary on BBC One called fake Britain aired on Monday 13th January we would like to reassure all of our customers that our mattresses are fully fire retardant and comply with UK laws.

All of our foam is sourced from reliable UK manufactures and we constantly test our products including our fabric on a regular basis to ensure that they comply with the fire safety regulations.

Reminder: Christmas Holiday Closures 2013-2014

Christmas is next week! Whoo! Our schedule for the season can be found below that lists when we are closed.

We urge all our Trade Partners to plan ahead and to provide us orders between Christmas Day and New Years Day so that our couriers can collect orders and deliver them in the new year. This way we won't be swamped on our first day back.

Monday 23rd Dec - Last open day before XMAS; processing new orders for dispatch. Cut off point to all customers is 11:30am.
Tuesday 24th Dec - We are closed; couriers in many areas will be attempting deliveries.
Wednesday 25th to Sunday 29th Dec - We and our couriers are closed.
Monday 30th Dec - Sales Team open to accepting orders (orders must be provided before 11am; bean bag and headboard orders will be dispatched in the new year). Couriers are collecting goods and will attempt to deliver in the New Year (3rd Jan). Customer Service and Accounts are closed until New Year.

The New Year is nearly here! We hope everyone has had an enjoyable 2013. To start in the new year of 2014, we have prepared a few new product lines for our Humza Amani collection.

Bunk Beds

To expand on our range of bunk beds, we have the new Torquay Bunk Bed and the Palmdale Triple Sleeper Bunk bed.

The Torquay Bunk Bed Frame is a traditional styled bunk which comes in an attractive silver or white finish. It's a bunk that is ideal for growing families or as an extra bed for when friends come to stay.

The Palmdale Triple Sleeper Bunk Bed Frame on the other hand is a great space saving bed for both younger and older children comprising of a spacious UK Double sized bottom bunk and a standard UK Single sized top bunk.

We hope the Torquay and Palmdale bunk are as hugely popular as our Lynton bunk in our range.

Princess Children's Bed

The Princess Bed is a simple bed frame made to be durable is stable. With its simple sleek metal design, this frame offers a lot for its low price point. The Princess Bed is supported with a tubular slat design aimed to be as tough as possible.

The frame is available in either blue, pink or white and we are offering mattress combo deals to all customers.

Product Refresh On Selected Bean Bag Lines for January 2014

The products are the Baby Bean Chair, Gamer Bean Bag, Kicky Bean Bag and the Round About Bean Chair.

These lines will still be sold in the New Year however the design will be refreshed to exclude the white fabric, leaving the bean bag to be a solid colour of our original listed choices. This makes a much more practical style of bean bag.

We will be ensuring all Trade Partners will be provided all the updated images before the change occurs so that you will have enough time to update your listings if you sell online. This will be emailed privately to all Trade Partners as soon as the information is available.

We are aiming to complete this change and switch to our new lines on Monday 20th January 2014.

Available now is our all new Metro Futon Sofa Bed. It is built from UK sourced natural pine wood and assembled in our factory located in Bristol.

The Metro Futon is great for those who need a simple guest bed that feels warmer and stronger then our standard line of metal futon frames.

This sofa bed can be purchased with our new Metro Futon Mattress that is made from fibre fillings and is available in our standard range of futon colours however now includes red.

We have chosen to manufacturer this product inside our facilities to ensure quality is controlled so our Trade Partners can feel safe that their customers will have a reliable product that will last.

Mattress 5 Year Warranties To Be Registered Online Via Viscotherapy.co.uk

Many of our mattresses come with a Limited Warranty that help consumers with their item if it develops a fault after the 1 year mark.

Currently, all warranties for sold items were assigned to our resellers where they would make all warranty claims on behalf of the consumers who they sold the goods to.

Consumers will tell us this does pose some complication with such issues as the reseller is no longer in operation, difficulty with obtaining information on the warranty and more. To help remove this barrier, we will now be providing warranties and dealing with future claims (after the 1 year mark) directly with the consumer.

Starting from tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd October 2013), all mattresses will be supplied with a new warranty leaflet that will explain what Visco Therapy's Limited Warranty is about. All warranties must be registered online via ViscoTherapy.co.uk within 30 days of their purchase date (if a consumer does not have access to the internet, they can contact us via phone and we can fill in the required form on their behalf).

The customer is required to provide information on the reseller who supplied the mattress such as the reseller's name, contact information and their order number so that we can validate the purchase against our records. If the information provided does not match our records then we will be in contact with the reseller to validate the purchase.

We are responsible for ensuring that the goods we supply are of satisfactory quality, conform to the samples and are fit for the purpose for which they are sold. However, if a product has developed a fault within the first year of purchase, than the consumer will need request help from the reseller as per the Sales of Goods ACT 1979 who will then liaise with us directly.

Helpful information on how to care for a new mattresses among other things are included with all warranty leaflets however if any reseller or consumer require more help or information about this new procedure than please contact us.

Back in march we announced a truly unique mattress made with Cool Indigo Foam. This special foam was developed and engineered to offer the same feel and pressure relieving properties as the equivalent density (65-75kg/m) visco-elastic memory foam but without the associated heat discomfort.

These mattresses do come with a hefty price tag however so to help more consumers to try this wonderful material, we are releasing a smaller and mid-range version called the Impressions Memory 6000 CoolBlue Mattress.

This mattress comes with 5cm of Cool Indigo Foam at a 17cm total depth. We can also vacuum pack and roll this mattress too!

To expand our collection even more; we have developed our own range of luxury baby cot mattresses with a couple that come with a novelty design on the covers that we hope the little ones will like.

The Visco Therapy Impressions Memory Laytech combines our popular latex material 'Latechm' with a very high density memory foam upper layer at 70kg/m3.

The extraordinary features helps blood to flow and circulate freely, preventing the nerves and muscles from numbing. While the layer of LAYTECH MEDICA foam which is very durable and comfortable and also has unique qualities such as being effective against Dust-mite, MRSA, and Asthma. It also provides Edge to Edge support with no roll together at a total depth of 25cm.

The Visco Therapy Impression mattresses will be available within 2 weeks time. They are not vacuum packed and are always delivered unrolled (higher deliver charges will be applied per item and still can be drop shipped); this is to ensure the quality of these products are at its highest to earn the title of being prestigious.

As some may be aware, today our website has been slow or essentially unresponsive since around 8am today. This issue effected our emailing service for oneholdinglimited.co.uk and viscotherapy.co.uk and was caused by a security attack on our web hosting company itself and not directly to us.

Our email service did regain control partially around 10am today however our websites are still intermitted while our hosting provider still undertakes its investigation on this security issue.

Because email providers would normally try to re-send emails which have not been delivered, we believe we have received all outstanding emails however if you do have some concerns, please contact us as soon as possible.

Service Disruption - Snow!

As most of you can tell by looking outside your window, it has been snowing and still is snowing! Due to this, the service provided by us and our couriers will be severely effected.

Shipments dispatched earlier this week may be delayed and we request all trade customers to inform their customers of delays of their deliveries.

Collections from Visco Therapy and Humza Amani by our couriers will be delayed until the snow is cleared (most likely on Monday) which means any new orders will be many not be delivered until late next week. All orders received will be processed, packaged and labelled ready for the couriers to collect when possible.

We will try our best to keep all trade customers updated as much as possible.

Just before Christmas, we introduced 3 gorgeous printed design children beds which have been a great hit with customers in design and build quality. We now have another 2 beds available for sale today; the F1 Car Bed and the Fire Engine Truck.

With similar quality in design and finish and amazing build quality, we are hoping these new beds will be loved as much as the others. The F1 Racing Car bed offers a low standing bed frame with a slim and sleek design while the Fire Engine offers that classic red fire truck with a high headboard to give a genuine look.

We are happy to announce that we are expanding our range of products and choice for 2013 which is a good way to start the year! We have new Children Beds, Children Mattresses, new Headboards, new mattresses, metal beds and much more throughout the year. Find our what is available for the start of the new year below.

Jazz Range

We have a new range of products called Jazz. The Jazz range brings colour and vibrant products aimed for kids from a new range of Children Divan Beds, to headboards and 4 different styled bean bags called Bench, Chino, Throne and Player.

The Jazz range of products are all available in huge selection of different colours with water resistant properties. Perfect for children.

New Mattresses

We are bringing for the new year 3 very affordable mattresses. Expanding our Special Offer section, we have the new Memory 5000 mattress.

In our spring mattress section, we have the Reflex Coil 1000 and the Reflex Pocket 1000 mattresses which offer great comfort and amazingly low prices.

Moo Moo and Choo Choo Range

The Moo Moo and Choo Choo Range have lovely products with simple graphics on the covers which is aimed at kids. The Moo Moo range has products which have cartoon images of hearts and a seemingly happy girl while the Choo Choo range has cartoon graphics of a smiling car. Simple yet kids will love them.

These cartoon graphics have been used on 3 different types of mattresses (Spring, Reflex and Memory foam) and on a headboard available in 2FT6 as well as 3FT. Pricing is not yet available for the mattresses but we will be back with these as soon as we can!

Bed Frames

Two new bed frames enter our collection in a silver metal finish. The Venus and the Bremington bed are a very sturdy and versatile bed frame at an affordable price. Complete with sprung based slates, these beds are built to be stable.

Updated Products

We have updated quite a few of our existing products most of which you can find out from our Stock Update posted earlier. The most notable changes are the Posh Headboard and our bean bags.

The Posh headboard has been an amazing and popular product for us. We love it and customers love it. We are now adding 5 additional colours to this headboard so customers have an even bigger choice.

We have also added several more colours to all our bean bags which use the water resistant Security fabric which means 12 colours in total.

Christmas is nearly here but we are not yet finished with unleashing new and amazing products for consumers! New to our Humza Amani collection is a range of furniture made for children in mind. This year, we are starting with 3 unique bed frames and we will be introducing new beds and other furniture items next year.

Each of these beds will be loved by children because of their unique and printed design upon a soft faux leather fabric. Our first three beds are designed to have a low centre of gravity making it easy for the young ones to hop into them. Each of these frames come with an option to include a Trundle bed which is a Guest Under Bed for those pesky sleepovers that children love to have.

So you have finally made the big decision to get a new mattress and now you are bombarded with a whole range of different mattress and different terms. How do you choose the right mattress for you with so much choice out there? This article is aimed to guide you to choosing that perfect mattress that’s right for you.

Material and Mattress Type

One of the first decisions you need to make is what material you want your mattress made out of. There are loads of choices so below we have constructed areas and why one may be better suited to a certain category of individuals.

Memory Foam

Memory foam does as it says and ‘remembers’ where you are sleeping, creating a mould to your body’s shape. Memory foam reacts to heat and as your body heats up it begins to mould to your shape. Because the mattress decreases the air circulation around your body the mattress becomes hot, great for the winter nights but not so much in the summer. Memory foam mattresses are excellent for providing orthopaedic support. Memory foam mattress can contain a chemical odour due to the chemicals which are used in producing the mattress but often are not a problem and goes after a short period of time. All of our memory foam mattresses fall into two different grades - firm or regular/medium comfort.

The general consensus is that memory foam offers the best comfort compared to other materials used. For more information on memory foam, we recommend that you take a look at our detailed view of memory foam.

Reflex Foam

Reflex foam mattresses are made with lots of small bubbles which take on the shape of your body when sleeping. Whereas memory foam gradually changes back, reflex quickly bounces back to its original shape when the pressure of your body is removed from the mattress. Reflex is also typically much firmer compared to memory foam. Like memory foam reflex is also great for orthopaedic support.

Our reflex foam mattress can come in 5 different comfort zones ranging from super soft to super firm. You would normally choose a reflex foam mattress is a solid firm mattress is required.

Latex Mattress

Latex mattresses come in either naturally made and synthetically made. Natural latex provides great added benefit of no chemicals and is eco-friendly making these mattresses great for those who suffer from allergies and asthma with its hypo-allergenic qualities. Latex mattresses are durable as well as offering anti-bacteria and anti-fungi features. Our latex mattress comes in regular or firm comfort.

Latex is great however consumers choose natural latex because it’s the closest you can get to an organic chemical free mattress as possible (other materials used in natural latex mattresses are not chemical free).

Springs or No Springs?

After reviewing what type of material type the next big question is whether you want springs or not and what type. Combining memory foam, reflex and/or latex with springs provides consumers with a superior mattress compared to the traditional ‘spring only’ type. Below are the two different types of spring mattresses we offer:

Pocket Springs

As the name suggests pocket springs are small individual springs in its own pocket. This is considered far better than the bonnell spring method because the individual springs mould to your body in a superior way. These type of springs are suited for those looking for a less firm mattress but offering high support.

Because the springs are individually laid out, you are less likely to have a ‘roll together’ issue when sleeping with a partner.

Open Coil Bonnell Springs

Open Coil Bonnell Springs is the most common type of springs used in a typical cheaper mattress and is the type that springs to mind (no pun intended) when people say ‘spring mattress’ Unlike the pocket springs mattress the Bonnell open coil springs have fewer but larger springs and are typically a cheaper production. Open Coil Bonnell springs provide firmer support and is better suited to children’s beds or beds used for a short period of time.

What Firmness Should I Choose?

The final decision is how firm you should go. Can be very difficult decision especially when purchasing online and with up to 5 different comfort zones.

If a mattress is too soft then there will be no support for your body which will result in a uncomfortable night sleep but on the other hand if a mattress is too firm then this also will create a uncomfortable night sleep causing problems.

Statistics show that the larger bodied you are, the firmer your mattress should be. So a person over the weight of 12 stone (76 kg) is more suited to a firm mattress compared to someone under that weight barrier and is suited for a medium mattress.

It is also worth noticing, that memory foam is naturally soft so for example if you are using a firm spring mattress then a memory foam mattress will seem much softer. Its always recommended to try and stick with a similar type of mattress to what you are used to, so not to provide such a level of extreme comfort difference. There is always an adjustment period when changing over to mattresses especially memory foam so its best to stick with it for a while.

If you are unsure of which mattress to choose ensure that you leave the plastic bag on when trying the mattress so returning is easier. A staff/company holiday is planned for the second half of the day on Friday 26th October and due to this our staff and services will be very limited. Memory Foam Topper Vs Memory Foam Mattress. Should You Buy a Memory Foam Topper Over a New Mattress?

When people are looking for a memory foam product they are often wondering at some point in the buying experience if a topper will suffice? Will a topper give me the support that I need which my old current mattress will not? This is a yes and no question which depends on the individual but equally important, the current state of the existing mattress.

Memory Foam Toppers are memory foam at its basic form. A sheet of memory foam, nothing more, nothing less. Toppers are used on top of existing mattresses to give extra support but mainly to provide more comfort. A topper can be an excellent way to try a memory foam mattresses instead of investing into a dedicated mattress.

Memory foam products are only as good as the base on which it is upon. On a memory foam mattress, you will find that underneath the comfort layer of which is the memory foam, you will find the supporting layer which is made from Reflex Foam. Without this layer, the memory foam will fail to give you the results you require which is the support for your body. If a topper is used ontop of a mattress that has problems then as above, it will not give the results that are desired.

Don't Buy a Topper if Your Mattress is Dipping?

With a topper, you do not have this supporting layer of reflex foam as it is replaced with your existing mattress instead. If this mattress is failing to give you support in such ways as dipping in certain areas (creating a hammock effect from foam or spring failure), then the use of a topper would not fix this issue and a new mattress is in required.

A dipping mattress usually occurs due to break down of materials inside the product which is a sign of over use, mattresss not cared for, an old mattress or a poor quality mattress.To check if you bed is dipping then you will need to place it on a flat surface such as the floor and you will be able to notice it clearly if it is dipping. The use of a long object or a ball would aid you in identifying a dip. It is also wise to check to see if the bed is actually dipping and not the mattress as any sagging in the structure of the bed will make the mattress appear to have dips in it.

Mattress too Soft?

Memory is naturally a soft material, so to get a good effect when using a memory foam topper, the under lying mattress is required to be a medium and above firmness. If you use it upon a soft mattress, you will find that it may be uncomfortable and unable to get to sleep adequately.

A memory foam topper is ideal if your mattress is uncomfortable for you such as being too firm so if your mattress is too soft then it may be wise to purchase a new mattress.

Choice is Yours!

A memory foam topper is a cheep and cheerful way to prolong the life of your existing mattress and get a better nights sleep. But as mentioned, the properties of the memory foam is reflected on the standard of your existing mattress. So before buying, check if the mattress is giving the support needed, is not dipping and check if the mattress is firm enough for a topper to be used upon it.

Bed Bugs Can Affect Your Sleep. Learn How to Get Rid of Them!

Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite can literally be more than just an expression. If you’ve ever suffered from bed bug bites then you can understand what a nuisance and how cunning they can be.

Bed bugs are a reddish brown colour and have a flat overall shaped body and are usually 5mm long. After feeding their colour changes where they will appear to be a dark red to black colour. Females lay between 200 and 500 eggs which very difficult to spot as they are white and stick to the surfaces.

With so many eggs being so difficult to spot, getting infected with bed bugs is easy but getting rid of them can be quite difficult but thankfully treatable.

My house/flat is very clean! How did I get the bed bugs?

Any bugs like bed bugs are automatically associated in society with being dirty and unclean. This is not the case, bed bugs are not prejudiced and will attach themselves to any soft furnishing item in the home especially bed linen and mattresses.

Bed bugs are relatively easy to obtain, one of the most common ways is by staying overnight at accommodation such as hotel, B&B or hostel. If they have an infestation then the bed bugs will attach themselves to your clothing and luggage and then when you return home, infest your furnishings.

Another way of how you can obtain bed bugs is from second hand furniture particularly bedding and mattresses or from pets.

How do I know if I have bugs in my beds?

The most common signs are blood spots on the sheets and mattress from where the bugs have been feeding or have been squashed. If you see brown spots particularly on your bedding from there faeces, then this is another indication of bed bug infestation. Also if you are itching and scratching and can see many raised red bumps then this is a typical sign of a bed bug bite.

Unlike flea bites, bed bug bites don’t usually contain a red dot in the centre and can take up to nine days to become visible. If bitten more then once, bed bugs tend to be in more of a straight line as opposed to other bites. Bed bugs feed by injecting a small amount of saliva into the persons (or animals) skin and in most cases isn’t serious and do not hurt, however they obviously become an annoyance due to irritation.

How can I prevent from catching bed bugs in the first place?

When staying away from home, check to make sure that there are no signs of bed bug infestation. Check the bedding, mattress and bed stead. If there is an infestation, there will be tiny dark brown spots. Keep your clothes in your suit case and keep this away from the bed preferably on a luggage rack if there is one available as the bed bugs are usually found around the bed area.

To keep bed bugs away from your house, keep your home clutter free and inspect regularly especially after guests visiting or returning from an overnight stay. Wash your bedding at the hottest temperature possible for the fabric type. If you purchase second hand furniture, check closely for any signs which are outlined above and avoid second hand mattresses at all cost.

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

For a small infestation of bed bugs it is possible to treat this yourself. Start by giving the room a good clean and ensure that you vacuum your mattress and the edge of the skirting boards. Dismantle your bed frame, vacuum and wash this down with warm soapy water if possible. When you have finished vacuuming, dispose of your vacuum bag immediately, ideally outside. This prevents the cunning little critters from escaping.

Check out your local stores for special bed bug sprays but be careful not to spray directly onto linen, clothing or the mattress. Bug bombs are available and work for large infestations. Not all sprays will work due to the bed bugs being quite smart, they can sense the threat and will quickly scurry away into hiding.

If the infestation is very large and clothes and bedding has become effected, place these items in a big bag and either dispose or take the bag to the washing machine as quickly as possible putting the bedding into wash at 60 degrees or in a dryer on a hot setting for 30 minutes to ensure that the bugs are killed.

If all else fails and you have a serious infestation of bed bugs, contact your local council or local pest control company. Some council areas will charge for this service while others provide this for free depending on where you live. Whether you contact your local council or hire a pest control company the inspection will usually take a few hours. The treatment can vary but usually a steamer or rapid freeze machine will be used which is specifically designed to get rid of the bugs.

Our bread and butter for Visco Therapy are memory foam mattresses and with our experience we thought it would be best to provide consumers about this subject in detail. Competition is high in this market and when looking for a memory foam product everyone is jumping in because of its many benefits and high recommendations from healthcare professionals. However this does not mean memory foam doesn't have any disadvantages and it is not suited for everyone.

A mattress purchase should be a careful purchase as you as the consumer will be using a mattress every night while you sleep and it is extremely important that you get the right mattress and do not make a mistake and waste your hard earned cash.

Little Bit of History

Originally designed for NASA missions back in 1966-1970s for safety enhancements and other tasks in space launches, memory foam is a soft and pliable material that follows the outline of pressure points such as your body. Since then, memory foam was developed further where it is now being used in Mattresses, Toppers and even other products such as shoe insoles and even bras. It has truly come a long way from just being safely equipment for NASA.

Why is Memory Foam Good For You

Why Memory Foam May Not Be Good For You

As temperature of the body is vital for memory foam to perform, it may lead to problems where the user may experience too much heat for their comfort through normal use and the hot summer months. However many mattresses like ours come with special cooling fabrics such as Coolmax which is meant to help keep the user cool and dry throughout the night.

Because it is synthetically made with chemicals, all foam products including memory foam may produce an odour that is non toxic but may put off a few buyers. This odour will disperse throughout the life of any foam product however the amount will decrease over its lifespan. The smell will only affect those with a sensitive nose but using methods such as airing the product or using odour neutralisers will aid in bearing with this minor annoyance. Visco Therapy tries to combat this issue by freshly vacuum packing mattresses only when needed.

Though the above reasons to not buy memory foam are fixable/bearable, the final reason why memory foam may not be good for you is it may simply not be for everyone. Comfort is a personal matter and there are many who do not get along with memory foam because they do not find the sinking feeling comfortable. A few reasons why consumers might find this is because it may be to soft or the moulding that occurs when in use does not allow them to move freely to their liking. If you find you require a very very firm mattress, memory foam may potentionally be out of the question.

Boring Bits: What You Need To Know Before Buying A Memory Foam Mattress

If you are in the market looking for a memory foam mattress, you need to choose wisely so that you get a product that is a good quality but also one that will not break the bank.

Brand and place of manufacturer are very important things to look for because many of our competitors import products from abroad such as China and with many of the import's quality and safety is a major concern.

Core specifications such as IFD and density rating shows us the quality of the item as well as the durability but most of this information is often hidden and can only be requested. Contrary to popular belief foam density has nothing to do with the feel or firmness of the mattress. The density is directly linked to how long it will last (its durability). Density is measured in Kilograms per Cubic Metre here in the UK. The higher this value is, the longer the foam will last. So a 60Kg/m3 may last several years longer then a 30Kg/m3. In a memory foam mattress, the layers will have a different ratings which is normal.

Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) is the means of telling us how firm the foam is in Newtons. This rating system is governed by the British standard BS EN ISO 2439. However, this rating does not tell us how firm the other layers of the products are at first glance. IFD measures the force of pressure in Newtons on the materials using an object at various of loads (20%, 40% & 80%). Because of its properties Memory foam is often rated between 30-85. The lower this number, the softer the foam is; the higher the number, the firmer it is. As memory foam is naturally soft, a sign of a quality product is that it has layers & base/core which for the best support, it will have layers with different firmnesses.

The bottom/base layer is often referred to the high density reflex foam and with all these extra layers, the memory foam mattress will feel comfortable yet very supportive. Our memory foam is rated with a newton force between 40-100.

Depending on the product in question, firmness will vary from product to product but also from layer to layer within a product. We offer choice by having options for a firm mattress which will have a higher newton rating and medium mattresses which will have a lower newton rating.

Last thing to know when buying a memory foam mattress is the amount of memory foam you actually need. A common thing we see and hear from memory foam mattress retailers across the country is how they advertise to their customers in order to get them to buy a product with more memory foam than they actually need. They often state that the more memory foam there is, the better and that small amounts of memory foam will not give you the support you require. This is false as memory foam is only used as the comfort layer on mattresses, it is the added layers underneath that tells us how supportive a mattress will be for this type of product.

We get various amounts of feedback and statistics from consumers about our products and when it comes down to it, it is personal preference in how the individual defines comfort. A consumer does not need to pay 3 times as much for a mattress that may have 3 inches of memory foam on the top layer when they could potentially be happier with a mattress that has a 1 inch memory foam top which gives them the support and comfort they desire (with the added bonus of saving a lot of money). What needs to be remembered is that the less memory foam there is, the firmer the mattress would be (you need to also take into account the IFD rating as well).

That does not mean to say that less is better, because as mentioned, it is a personal preference and if you are looking for a more softer and comfortable sleep, more memory foam is ideal.

Bottom Line

When it comes down to it, memory foam does offer a superior sleeping system compared to the traditional spring system but as everyone have their own needs, you should take the praise given to memory foam lightly and research what you find comfortable and research the products you potentially buy so you can make the best choice.

And unlike Britain, these locations are not heavily regulated by law in producing products and nor can the quality be monitored from the importing company. We have done tests from several memory foam mattress brands (who will remain nameless) using our foam block manufacturers help and we were shocked with many of the results. Though it was clear that there was some quality concerns, the biggest shock was that many of the products did not conform to British Fire Regulations and were a genuine fire hazard making them not only illegal products but potentially life threatening. It may be cheap but it is simply not worth it. If you see a mattress for an extremely low price but has a very good specification, we strongly advise you to do more research into the product before purchasing.

Can't Sleep? Tips on How to Get a Good Nights Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things that we need in order to function properly for the day ahead. Too little of it can leave us feeling very groggy or cranky during the day and make the night very difficult and stressful for yourself and the other around you.

Many of us either are not getting enough rest due to not being able to get to sleep on time or waking during the night and unable to get back to sleep.

There are many ways to help to get the best possible sleep so continue reading if you are struggling. If this article helps (or does not help) let us know in the comments below. If you have your own tips, share with us as they may help others :).

Your Sleeping Patterns

Finding a sleeping pattern is a great way for allowing your body to adjust its body clock to ensure that you are getting the correct amount of sleep daily.

Most healthy adults need approximately 6 to 8 hours sleep a night which you need to aim for every night. These sleeping schedules need to be kept so prevent yourself from staying up late one night thinking to catch up on it the next as this will affect the sleeping pattern that your body has. Only when you are regularly getting a good night sleep can you then stay up late once in a while and not have it affect your sleep a great deal.

An example to get into a sleeping pattern is to make sure that you go to bed each night at similar time and wake up at similar time (i.e, go to bed 11pm every night and way up at 7am every morning). This will help your body generate a rhythm enabling better sleeping patterns. You must stick to this every night of the week including weekends because by not doing so will make your body get out of the rhythm of the sleep pattern creating a restless night. A good time when to go to bed and when to wake up is very dependent on the individual so go to bed when you are tired but not too early or too late that you do not get an average of 6 to 8 hours of sleep.

If you are tired during the day a power nap is recommended for 15 - 30 minutes mid afternoon, this is particular useful if you have the habit of falling asleep in the evenings and then finding you cannot sleep when its actually time to go to sleep. Powernaps of a specific amount of time help to refresh your body and state of mind which is perfect if you are up late at night cramming for exams!

Your Daily Routine

It’s not all about what happens during the night that affects your sleep but also what you do during the day that has a massive impact on your sleep and how well or bad you sleep.

Taking in as much natural day light as possible as melatonin is a hormone that is produced naturally in the brain which tells us to be awake during the day and to go to sleep when its dark. If you are spending a lot of time indoors and not benefiting from natural day light then this will not stimulate the hormone having an effect on your sleep rhythm. If you are at work ensure that you get out of the office and into natural day light as much as possible by spending your breaks outside. Open blinds to let in natural daylight (unless you have an office like ours with no windows!). Likewise if you are at home open curtains and ensure that you get out of the house even if it’s just spending an hour or so in the garden.

Ensure that you get plenty of exercise as not only is it good for you as a whole but it will stimulate your body by using energy and improving stamina, it will later on making your body require more sleep when it is time for bed. On average you should be getting between 20 and 30 minutes a day but avoid doing this before bed as this will stimulate the body and make sleeping more difficult. It is recommended to try yoga as it’s a beneficial way to relax and exercise at the same time.

Drinking and Midnight Snacking

If your stomach or bladder is full and unhappy it will affect your brain making you restless and disturbing your sleep. If you’re feeling peckish in the evening, opt for a light snack rather than a heavy meal as anything too heavy can cause indigestion or provide too much energy and anything too spicy or acidy can cause heart burn if you are prone to this. Something low on sugar or low in fat is ideal such as Low fat cereal, a banana or low fat yoghurt.

Common sense in this next bit, but avoid caffeine and alcohol and try to hold off drinking large amount of any fluid before bed times as this will cause more bathroom visits during the night. Opt for a milky drink or herbal tea such as chamomile as these are proven to be successful.

Prepare Yourself for Sleeping

Like many things sleeping is all about preparation, if you are unprepared and not relaxed then your body and mind will naturally want to carry on with day time activities.

Avoid bright lights and use dim light bulbs or lamps as well as avoiding well lit screens such as TV or computers as much as possible before going to sleep. Watching TV or using your phone while in bed may cause problems when you attempt to sleep as your mind may still be focused on those devices and the things you look at on those devices. Listening to music or reading an interesting book may help your mind to relax compared to watching TV.

If these things do not help you relax, you can try taking a hot bath. There are special aromatherapy bubble baths on the market that are especially designed to help people get to sleep and this will help your body relax and unwind and also help with stress.

Stress can be a huge sleep killer for a lot of people so avoid it! If you suffer from stress, find ways to de-stress yourself before sleep; One method is to write in a journal at the end of the day. If work is prone to giving you stress, avoid looking and thinking about work related things. This will not only create stress but will keep your mind active for longer and the chances are you will get further stressed because you cannot sleep.

Your Room and the Bed

Making sure that the bed is comfortable and that the room atmosphere is correct for your liking. Your body needs somewhere suitable to sleep and in a suitable environment.

Ensure that your mattress is comfortable for you so that is it supportive enough for your body but comfortable as well. Studies have shown that a firm mattress is good for the spine and memory foam is good for preventing tossing and turning in the night therefore providing a less restless night’s sleep. We have a wide range of mattresses in various choices to suit everyone’s needs so take a look and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

It is important to keep the room cool to ensure that you do not get too hot during the night. After all nobody likes an overly hot room when sleeping. The recommended temperature is between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius. In the summer a light weight duvet is recommended at about 3.0 - 4.5 tog whereas in the winter something warmer is required so a duvet with tog rating of 12.0 - 13.5 would be better suited. If you are the type of person who is affected by heat while sleeping, we advise to avoid memory foam mattresses as memory foam performs under the warmth of your body and it will become hotter during use. If you wish to use memory foam you will benefit greatly from mattresses which come with special cooling covers such as Coolmax which we provide on our HL2000 Coolmax mattress.

Ensure that lights are switched off in the room during the night when you are trying to sleep. If street lighting is seeping through the windows or you sleep during the days then invest in some black out curtains and turn off any lights which shine through the door. If you are a light sleeper you will need to avoid sudden noises such as dogs barking, heavy vehicles or snoring partners by using ear plugs. Sudden noises will disturb your sleep and make your brain concentrate more on when you will hear the next loud noise rather than drifting off to sleep. Some people find it calming to listen to gentle music while sleeping while others would find this more of a disturbance. Try things as you never know if it will work.

Getting Back to Sleep

Waking in the night can be very stressful especially if you struggle to get back to sleep.

Move all clocks away from your bed or turn them around as it is too tempting to keep looking at the time when trying to get back to sleep which creates stress which will make it harder to drift off back to sleep.

Worrying or thinking of stressful situations as mentioned is a huge sleep killer. Think of relaxing thoughts such as being on a quiet beach on a warm summers day with a nice cool breeze drinking your favourite drink can help calm you down. If you do start thinking of ideas, stressful or worrying situations that stimulate the brain, get up and write them down or other ways to de-stress yourself or changing your thinking pattern.

If all else fails, don’t stay in bed tossing and turning, get up and have a small drink such as herbal tea or milky drink. Move around and pull the covers back cooling the bed down while you are up.

Sleep is vital for everyone to ensure their state of mind and body is at their peak performance. Ensuring you get the right amount of sleep and the best sleep is even more important. Not everyone is the same though and several of the tips we provided may not help everyone.

Shredded Foam Crumbs Offer

We are offering high quality shredded foam filling also known as foam crumbs or foam bits at low cost. This can be used for filling new cushions or prolonging the life of existing cushions. It can also be used in seating furniture, as packaging, futon mattresses (just like we do) and more.

This is the same foam that we use in nearly all our mattresses in such as our reflex foam mattresses and in our memory foam mattresses acting as the support base.

The reflex foam is unwanted materials from post production of our products which means it is all sourced from our British foam supplier and meets all Fire rating standard regulations.

This is on offer to all our trade customers for whatever their needs, it comes shredded into small bits as you see on the product image and either bagged or boxed for transport in 1Kg batches.

We offer a tiered discount system for this product (price per 1 Kg unit):

1-9Kg: £2.50
10-19Kg: £2.00
20-39Kg: £1.75
40-79Kg: £1.50
80-99Kg: £1.25
100+: £1.00

To all trade customers, we have upgraded our website which has allowed us to move the task of providing daily order notifications from our accounts package in our offices to our website.

One of the most requested changes in our daily routine is for our dispatch emails (which contained a file for order and courier information which helped you track your orders for consumers) to be sent to a different email address then your main customer service or accounts email address. Because our website will deal with emailing all our customers with dispatch notifications, it has allowed to us include another email field dedicated to this task.

If you have a dedicated email address for stock, dispatch notifications, etc, we advise you to log into your online account and updated your information.

We will be looking to get our invoices emailed through the same system in the near future so that all informations get sent to the correct departments of your businesses.

Our website will now email invoices to all trade customers and with this, we can now send invoices to a seperate email address. If you have a seperate email account for your invoicing and accounts team, please log into your online account and update your email contact information.

Invoices will be emailed weekly as per normal but you will now have access to a CSV file type as well as a HTML file type.

Please note that this email and download service for dispatched orders and invoicing is still in testing phase for which we ask that if you encounter any bugs or problems to call us or email us as soon as possible so that we can investigate and improve on our services. Thanks!

New Product Range: Bonkers Bean Bags

We are proud to announce a new product range called Bonkers Bean Bags which is both designed and manufactured by our company Humza Amani!

Over the last few months we have been researching and building new infrastructure so we could enter the bean bag market with a unique vision of products. We have 15 different Bonkers Bean Bag products with over 200 variations made using different fabrics and in different sizes, consumers will be spoilt for choice. And yet, there is still more to come in the coming months with more designs and sizes within our Bonkers range.

We have bean bags which are made for kids, teenagers, adults and even for a group of adults! They are available in water resistant fabric, smooth or snake like faux leather, corded and a corded plush fabric. We also have a few bean bags which take advantage for a combination of fabrics to give that unique and stylish look and feel. We have really gone all out!

Every part of these products are sourced and manufactured in the United Kingdom so not only do we still support our economy by being a sole British company, but we can ensure that a high standard is met in all finished products just like our Humza Amani Headboards and Visco Therapy Mattresses.

Our website has been updated here or can be available at www.bonkersbeanbag.co.uk, we made sure that we did this right and went all out in photography and have provided as many photographs as possible with and without models to show our products in action. Remember if you are a trade customer with an online account, you can log into our website and download the entire batch of images in one go.

All Bonkers Bean Bags are available from 1st August 2012 for drop shipping. For large orders, please contact us before hand so we can provide estimates on delivery dates. Our range of products is open to all trade customers.

As of now, everything is up and running smoothly. We have taken this as a warning and hopefully we will be more prepared in the future. Apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused to all our trade customers and their clients.

The sofa bed uses a simple click clack system to convert into a 4FT bed suitable for 1 or 2 people.

New Headboards for 2012

We strive to always keep ahead of the curve by updating and realising new products onto the market. We like to announce that we have 3 unique headboards to add to on going collection of Humza Amani branded products.

Neelam Crystal Headboard

Neelam uses a similar design of our hugely popular Crystal X Headboard by using a velvet fabric with faux crystals with a grey damask border on the left and right of the velvet design.

Layla Headboard

Similar to the Neelam, the Layla Headboard uses the same soft velvet fabric but as the border on the left and right of the grey damask fabric.

Heaven Headboard

The Heaven Headboard is made using a Double Jersey fabric in an off white colour. It comes in 3 very unique designs called Ripple, Quatro and Flora.

All these headboards are available to order now. Please take into account a 2-3 Business Day lead time for the next 30 days as we manufacture new stock.

Headboards Data Specification Sheets and Bar Codes

Two weeks ago we reported that we aim to provide as much information as possible to our retail partners so they in turn can offer transparent information to their customers and stay relevant in the online space.

We initially updated our mattress stock with barcode numbers and put all this data along with product codes, weights, etc into a Data Specification file which is available through our website.

On each of our product pages, you will find a link to download a datasheet (PDF) which contains:

Product specifications
Product Codes
Estimated Sizes and packaged sizes
Estimated weights
Bar codes (GTIN-13/EAN)

So far this has only reflected our mattresses however we have added these datasheets to all our headboards. Please view www.oneholdinglimited.co.uk to take a look.

We aim to bring these data sheets to our other ranges very soon.

Data Specification Sheets and Bar Codes

We are always trying our best to aid our retail partners by providing them with quality products and services with as much information as possible to give them an edge over the competition.

With the convergence of technology shaping our futures in the retail market and the dominance of giants such as Google shaping shopping trends, we need to make an effort to ensure we provide you with the latest information to continue to make yourself relevant each year.

The biggest platform for the online world is Google, the worlds number 1 search engine. They continue to make efforts that your websites are properly indexed and searchable, with your aid to ensure quality information of course.

Information we have yet to provide to our customers though are specific brand, weight, product codes and bar codes information. Bar codes which being the most important along with Brand names. Google requires you to list each product and variation of a product with its brand name and unique bar code number (EAN, UPC etc etc). If you leave this information out, it greatly effects your results when consumers search for products.

On each of our product pages, you will find a link to download a datasheet (PDF) which contains:

Product specifications
Product Codes
Estimated Sizes and packaged sizes
Estimated weights
Bar codes (GTIN-13/EAN)

We urge all of our retail partners to update their websites to include at least the Brand name of the product (usually either Humza Amani or Visco Therapy) and the bar code number in order for you to stay relevant in the online space.

Creating barcode numbers for our 1000s of products (we have lots of variations!) and datasheets is very time consuming. Currently, we only have this information available for the Mattresses, Toppers and Pillows. We will update our other products with this information as soon as possible.

Keep up to Date with Product Information

We urge all trade customers to ensure that they are up to date with all our product information and images. Many of our products change over time in an effort to improve on quality and price.

It is best to check back on our website every 2 weeks to check for any updates on descriptions or product images which may prompt you to change the information that you provide to your customers such as your website.

Downloadable versions of our latest images for our products are available for 95% of our products. Simply log into your online account and visit a product page to see a link to the images. Further information is provided via links on each product such as vacuum packing and memory foam which is benificial to you and your customers.

Our base warranty information is available online for those that include one such as our memory foam mattresses (links available on product page). We urge you to keep up to date with this information as well as our Terms of Sales which is included with our price list (if you require a new price list, please contact us).

I would also like to inform you that Customer statements are now available online through our website. The are updated every Friday and you will receive an email to inform you of this update.

We will soon be giving all customers bar code numbers for all our main products very soon so that you can use them to be more recognised by shopping sites such as Google Shopping, we will email all customers once this information is live.

We would like to remind all customers that we and our couriers do not operate on UK Bank Holidays, upcoming we have 2 standard Bank Holidays but with the Queens Diamond Jubliee being declared as a Bank Holiday, our couriers will not be operating on that given day, thus no orders can be dispatched.

Monday 4th June 2012 (also the Queens Birthday apparently!)
Tuesday 5th June 2012 (Diamond Jubilee)
