The one thing I’ve learned when it comes to looking for software to edit video and stuff is that for the most part, you have to try a few programs in order to find one that works best for you.

Video editing software performs very differently from machine to machine, depending on the computer configuration you have at home. Your processor, memory and graphics card (among other things) all play a major role in the entire editing experience.

Don’t be surprised to read all kinds of conflicting reviews online and ratings that don’t match up. For every 10 positive reviews, you’ll encounter 10 horror stories for the same video editing software. That’s just the way it goes with software to edit video.

I’ve had programs work perfectly on one PC, then have them crash on another for similar editing tasks.

All that aside, I’m not going to leave you dry with this article.

I do have some recommendations for ya. I’m by no means a super editing pro but I’ve edited hundreds of different productions over the years. I’ve got a little more than two cents to share when it comes to this stuff.

Software to Edit Video

My favorite has got to be PowerDirector by Cyberlink. I absolutely love it.

When it comes to affordable video editing suites – this one rules.

It’s not as powerful and super-pro as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas – which is a good thing cause PD doesn’t come with the hefty price tag or gut-wrenching learning curve either.

Besides, you wouldn’t be reading this if you were looking for powerhouse options. That is, unless you actually are looking for powerhouse software, in which case, Premiere and Vegas all the way! They’re Glorious Industry Standards! Be prepared to spend hours learning how to use them though, because they’re not for the impatient type.

My personal favorite (the one I use daily) is PowerDirector. I suggest if you’re looking for software to edit video clips or create quality productions, with HD in mind, you have to try it.

Other noteworthy contenders that fall into the affordable consumer category are VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio, Roxio and Adobe Premiere Elements.

I had used VideoStudio for a couple of years for some video capture but then I switched to PD when VS started to become unstable on my new PC. Pinnacle always crashed. The others – I haven’t played around with enough to give you input. What can I say – PD has been good to us!

Again – try out as many of them as you like. Find one that fits your system requirements. Install the trial, open up some video clips and play around. That’s the best way you get a feel for which best does the trick.

I know it’s a headache but give yourself a few hours to test drive some of the options I mentioned above and I can assure you that you’ll find the right software to edit video for you.

If you’re starting out with video editing and you need it for video marketing or whipping up quality videos for YouTube and stuff, stick to a budget of under $100 and you’ll be good to go.

Free Software to Edit Video

With free – you get what you pay for.

I don’t use free software to edit video because it usually just won’t cut it for what I need. Nowadays every camcorder or computer you buy comes bundled with free software to edit video. You can get real crafty if you’re patient and have modest requirements for your project.

If I had to recommend any pre-installed programs, it would have to be MovieMaker for Windows and iMovie for MAC.

Looking for something that didn’t come bundled with your machine?

I’ve heard quite a few things about WAX and Jahshaka, which are both Free.

I can’t personally vouch for any of these because, as I mentioned, I don’t use them.

If you have or can – please do leave a message below. These programs are good options worth exploring if you don’t want to shell out any money. Be prepared to fiddle around.

If you haven’t tried PowerDirector from Cyberlink – give it a go. Test the trial and see how it fairs.

PD is very affordable and has been a consistent performer for us. It’s our official software to edit video and has been for many years – since version 5 or so. It’s NOT perfect. No software to edit videos is. PD is easy to use, robust, relatively stable, supports HD and is very well priced.

To be honest, if PD runs smooth on your machine, you’ll very happy with it. It’s very solid in terms of editing tools and video producing options.

The downside to option two is that you don’t actually own or have full control of your blog because it’s hosted by a third-party. Your website address will also be a sub-domain of WordPress, i.e. “yoursite.wordpress.com”. Sure, you can still buy your own domain and redirect it but that’s not ideal for many reasons.

Option one isn’t free but is definitely the way to go in most cases. There’s no excuse not to opt for a self-hosted WordPress considering hosting plans (like HostGator) only cost a few dollars. Not to mention a setup process that consists of only 2 or 3 clicks. Easy as pie.

WordPress Hosted vs. Self-Hosted – Not a Fair Fight!

You might agonize about the decision but the answer is simple.

If you’re at a blog crossroads and see two signs that read: self-hosted WordPress or WordPress-hosted… go with self-hosted. You cannot go wrong.

The only time I would consider a WordPress-hosted or Blogger option is for buffer sites or quick mini-sites built for marketing purposes and backlinking to our self-hosted WordPress Blogs. I would use them like we use most 2.0 properties like Tumblr, Zanga and Company.

How to Do Mindfulness Meditation

My solution for you is to schedule the mindfulness meditation techniques right into your daily to-dos. Think of it this way. You’re always scheduling biz-related stuff into your dailies right? Do the same for this. Block out a 10-to-15 minute period a couple of times a week. Call it your “Me Time” and book it. Eventually, you can practice on a daily basis but for now, take baby steps to get comfy and familiarize yourself with the process.

Here are 2 mindful meditation exercises. They’re super easy and will get you going instantly. Remember to use your breath as a guide…

1. In Your Office

Turn off all distractions. I’m talking about all the electronic beeping stuff, whistles and ringtones. Mute everything just for a few minutes. Turn off the lights, lower the blinds and just relax. Sit in your most comfortable position, it doesn’t matter if it’s on the sofa, the chair or even the floor.

Follow your breath.

2. Enjoy Some Fresh Air

Nature is powerful. Being outdoors grounds you. Use your beautiful natural environment to help release tension and bring you back into the present moment. The best and easiest way to enjoy the outdoors is to go for a walk. You don’t have to pack a lunch and walk for hours. A nice calm walk around the block will do the trick. Or my favorite, a walk right after a heavy rain fall. The energy outside is so energizing and inspiring. Remember, it’s all about the breathing.

If you just don’t know how to get started and need a little extra motivation or instruction – I highly recommend this DVD with Rodney Yee, which has some wonderful easy meditation sessions that anyone can do. It’s been a life saver in this household for many, many years.

There’s absolutely no doubt about it. Mindfulness meditation techniques can positively inspire your business in many ways. All you have to do is just close your eyes, relax, take a few deep breaths and let yourself go into the present moment.

It sounds easy and simple – well it’s not. It takes practice.

But the good news is that you’ll get better at it every day! The more you practice, the more you master the present moment, the more you’ll absorb the phenomenal benefits of meditation. The more you and your online business profit.

As a blogger in Web 2.0, you’ve got options. You can flex your creative muscle and make a blog header on your own or you can have a nice looking one custom-made for a reasonable commission.

2. The Name of Your Blog. Easy on the eyes so it’s easy to read.

3. Your Tagline or Slogan. Add some descriptive text. Nothing too long – just enough to convey what your blog has to offer.

Don’t Rush to Hook Up a Custom Blog Header

Whatever you do, exploring your options on how to make a blog header is a great idea. A good header can work wonders for your blog design. It’s probably the main thing you should do to kick up your web aesthetic.

Just remember, there’s no rush.

When I think of solid manual directory submission services, just a couple come to mind while only one really stands out. Those two would be Directory Maximizer and Submit Edge.

We haven’t used SE so, nothing against them, but our fave would be DM.

Mind you, even manual directory submission isn’t completely 100% manual. They use scripts and sticky keys and all that magic stuff to speed up the process. If I opened my own submission firm – I would do everything possible to facilitate serving our customers and increase profits. Custom scripts and all. It’s all good.

The important thing is that it’s done RIGHT and done in manner that is perfectly white hat and search engine friendly. A nice steady flow of quality links.

We’ve been using Directory Maximizer for some time and we gotta tell ya – we don’t plan on using any other manual directory submission service any time soon.

They’re just a great company that does what it promises to do, at a very good cost to boot!

Don’t waste your time typing “directory maximize scam” into Google, because you’re quickly bound to fit this service into your Internet marketing arsenal.

Directory Maximizer – The Good Stuff!

Here’s what I personally appreciate about their service:

1. Some of the best pricing around at a sweet $0.14 per submission. That’s $14 for 100 manual directory submissions. Hard to find better from a solid reputable company. Minimum order is only $5 – take that Fiverr! Ha ha!

2. Versatile submitting options. You can submit one shot or have them submit 100 a month for you. We mix it up depending on the site we’re promoting. I think, right now, we have it set for 100/month on 3 sites with some one-shot orders for several mini-niche sites.

3. Up to 20 Titles/Descriptions per Site. You heard correct. You can input different titles and descriptions to vary your anchors. I usually start by putting in 5 to 10, then adding if needed. I highly recommend using all your available slots. So easy and invaluable!

4. My all time favorite DM feature, they keep track of everything! Whether you do a one-time order based on PageRank or do monthly orders, they keep track of which directories you’ve submitted to so you never submit twice. You never have to worry about a thing and with 1000+ directories (which are continually updated) you’ve got lots to play with.

5. No Hype! They’re just a straight-up manual directory submission service. No extra sales hype or up-selling or pointless emails. They even refund submissions that didn’t work for whatever reason. The refund is credited to your account as MX dollars that you can use later.

Directory Maximizer – The Bad!

- One bad thing that I can think of is their reporting. They do offer reports on which directories they’ve submitted to but don’t really have a nice clean list of URLs that contain your link. They need to fix this. I’ve spoken to them a few times and the option they DO offer is to email them and ask for a sample list of URLs with your link. They will be more than happy to send you a sample report. I’ve done this a few times and they always oblige.

I would rather have all my URLs/reports in my account area for review and this is probably the only thing that bugs me about DM. That’s it.

- Okay. I also wish they would ping or offer an option to help index backlinks. This is not really a negative as they don’t advertise this. It’s just something I would like to see built into Directory Maximizer.

- Also, each submission doesn’t guarantee a listing. That’s not REALLY a bad thing because that’s what manual directory submission is all about.

The important thing is they do submit your site to directories and you do get real listings and those equal great backlinks. Some directories take weeks to list you, which is all good – we’re all for a trickle of backlinks spread over time.

You can ask Directory Maximizer to take care of them for you, which is nice if you want a turnkey experience. We actually handle it ourselves because it only takes a few seconds and they tend to stand out like a sore thumb in your inbox.

Many of the directories use similar scripts so you get used to their email formatting and confirmation procedures.

Will Directory Maximizer Help My Rankings?

Short answer is YES. DM has actually helped us maintain and slowly increase our rankings for SOME real authority keywords and that’s with extreme competition. You have to be patient though and make sure you vary your title and description text for maximum results.

They submit to a nice variety of directories with a sweet range of pagerank. You can even select which PageRank range of directories you would like to submit to.

With our big blogs, we don’t discriminate with PageRank because every link counts when you’re playing to win those big-time keyword rankings.

However for smaller niche sites, we only need a handful of quality links to get on the map. In this instance, we’ll filter it down to only PR2+ or PR1+ directories and hit them with a 50-to-100 directory submission order.

We also make double-sure to ping and/or energize any of our approved DM submission links.

Just like any service or marketing tool, you have to vary it up for real results. Make sure you incorporate some article marketing, social bookmarking and blog commenting into the mix and the rankings will come.
