Feats Of Faith

There is no getting at our God sometimes because of the multitude of our friends, but when a man is so poor, so friendless, so helpless that he has nowhere else to turn, he flies into his Father’s arms, and is blessedly clasped in them! When he is burdened with troubles so pressing and so peculiar, that he cannot tell them to anyone but his God, he may be thankful for them, for he will learn more of his Lord then than at any other time. Oh, tempest-tossed believer, it is a happy trouble that drives you to your Father! Now that you have only your God to trust in, see that you put your full confidence in him.

Do not dishonor your Lord and Master by unworthy doubts and fears, but be strong in faith, giving glory to God. Show the world that your God is worth ten thousand worlds to you. Show rich men how rich you are in poverty when the Lord God is your helper. Show the strongman how strong you are in your weakness when underneath you are the everlasting arms.

Now is the time for feats of faith and valiant exploits. Be strong and very courageous, and the Lord your God shall certainly, as surely as he built the heavens and the earth, glorify himself in your weakness and magnify his might in the midst of your distress. The grandeur of the arch of heaven would be spoiled if the sky were supported by a single visible column, and your faith would lose its glory if it rested on anything discernible by the carnal eye.

8 Aspects of Prayer

5. Praying Scriptures - This is really important and powerful! The next page has some Scriptures to get you started. In prayer, just read back the Scriptures or recite them to the Lord. Personalize them using I or me. These are God’s truths and promises for our life. When we pray them, we start seeing God’s truths and promises become reality in our lives! ***Lord, it says in Phil. 4:13 that “I can do ALL things through Him who gives me strength.” So no matter what comes my way, through You, Jesus I can do it.
6. Listening - This is when you get quiet and allow the Lord to speak some thoughts into your mind. There are two good ways to do this. One way to listen is to FOCUS mentally on Jesus in worship and prayer or to just be silent and ask the Lord to speak to your heart and mind as you wait in His presence. The other way to listen is by reading a few Scriptures and meditating (thinking over) what you just read. ***Lord, it says in Psalm 91 that I need to “dwell in the secret place of the most high.” Help me, as I wait in Your presence to understand what that means. (Remember that the enemy will try to make your mind wander quickly, so fight to keep FOCUSED on Jesus.)
7. Singing - Singing is a great way to pray. Even if your voice stinks! It’s powerful to sing worship songs to the Lord, or even to make up new ones from your heart. If you eventually choose to pursue your “Prayer Language,” you’ll also find it exciting to sing to the Lord in your “Prayer Language.”
8. Praise - Praise is a great way to conclude your prayer time. When you worship, you magnify God for who He is. When you praise, you are magnifying God for what He does. It is basically saying “thank you” for all that He is doing in you and in the lives of others. ***Thanks Lord for helping me grow in character. I couldn’t do it without You!

Servants of Christ

Passages like, Philippians 1:6 - being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ, and Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. And of course, Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Paul had given it all, he had been poured out, and he was chained to a wall in one of the worst jails in Rome and was still able to write, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

He identified himself with Christ as a Bondservant, not as an apostle, a preacher, or a saint, but as one who was permanently attached or bonded to Christ. “A bondservant’s master would pierce his earlobe with an awl against the door of the house. That’s a very clear statement that you’re going nowhere—that you’re permanently fixed to this house and this master. It became traditional to put in a gold earring after the awl was removed. And that slave could never go free again. He could never be sold, either. He became more than just a slave; he became a servant who was permanently attached—bonded—to his master, a bondservant. Such bondservants were usually trusted with more of their master’s affairs than a normal slave would be. Although still servants, they often were considered part of the family.”*

Paul had everything taken away from him, all the creature comforts, all his possessions, everything we consider essential for fulfillment, purpose, and happiness. Yet, he wrote this, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” - Phl 4:11-13

As I look around my heated office, sitting in my cushioned chair, typing on a nice desk, I ask myself, “Have I learned to be content?” “Have I learned to be happy whether full or hungry, with much or little?”

Have I truly placed my ear against the Master’s door and said please Lord, may I stay and serve in Your House?

We must allow God’s goodness to awaken our heart to the way of thankfulness (Colossians 3:15-17). Share your hope in Christ, no matter your situation. Like Anna, fight for your joy by worshiping from a heart filled with a desire to serve. And Like David, show others how to worship from a heart filled with thankfulness for God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness. When we worship – we witness! People around you need your hope and joy this Thanksgiving season. Remember, God has called us to show others the way be serving and be showing them the way.
