qualquer material multifásico que exibe uma proporção significativa das
propriedades de ambas as fases”. Geralmente os compósitos apresentam duas
fases, uma fase matriz, que é contínua e envolve a outra fase, a fase dispersa
(carga).
A classificação dos compósitos se dá quanto ao material empregado na constituição
da matriz. Ela pode ser cerâmica, metálica ou polimérica (sendo esta ou
termoplástica ou termorrígida).&lt;br /&gt;
Uma outra forma de classificar os compósitos é quanto a sua carga inserida. Existem três tipos de cargas: as cargas de reforço, que promovem um aumento de tenacidade no
material; as cargas funcionais, que alteram propriedades específicas do
material, como condutividade elétrica; e, por fim, as cargas de enchimento ou
inertes, cuja função se resume em apenas reduzir o custo do material
(TECPOLIMEROS. 2009).&lt;br /&gt;
Na figura abaixo há uma proposta de Levy Neto e Pardini (2006)
das classificações de compósitos quanto à carga utilizada. A figura mostra
apenas cargas de reforço uma vez que a maioria dos trabalhos desenvolvidos
sobre compósitos visa a melhoria de propriedades mecânicas, como rigidez,
tenacidade e dureza (Callister. 2007).

Que papel é feito de celulose todo mundo sabe, correto? Mas lembrar que celulose é polímero já não é tão comum, até porque o papel não tem o aspecto esperado de um material polimérico. A celulose é uma fibra vegetal presente nas paredes das plantas, ela age como uma espécie de agente de reforço. Pra começar que existem vários tipos de plásticos diferentes e nem sempre eles podem se misturar. Outro equívoco são as pessoas acharem que reciclagem é só fusão e remoldagem das peças, o que não é bem assim.&amp;nbsp;A reciclagem de polímeros pode ser classificada em quatro categorias:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;i&gt;Reciclagem primária&lt;/i&gt;: consiste na conversão dos resíduos poliméricos industriais por
métodos de processamento padrão em produtos com características equivalentes
àquelas dos produtos originais produzidos com polímeros virgens.&lt;br /&gt;
Ex: Reutilização de rebarbas ou peças com defeitos, colocando-as no alimentador para reprocessamento.&amp;nbsp;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;i&gt;Reciclagem secundária&lt;/i&gt;: conversão dos resíduos poliméricos provenientes dos resíduos
sólidos urbanos por um processo ou uma combinação de processos em produtos que
tenham menor exigência do que o produto obtido com polímero virgem.&lt;br /&gt;
Ex: A reciclagem como conhecemos, onde a peça é fundida e remoldada.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;i&gt;Reciclagem terciária&lt;/i&gt;: processo tecnológico de produção de insumos químicos ou
combustíveis a partir de resíduos poliméricos.&lt;br /&gt;
Ex: Despolimerização para reutilização do monômero.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;i&gt;Reciclagem quaternária&lt;/i&gt;: processo tecnológico de recuperação de energia de resíduos

Elastômeros: São polímeros que apresentam propriedades elásticas. Possuem uma estrutura reticulada o que &amp;nbsp;fornece a eles uma alta deformação a uma baixa carga, sem destruição da estrutura. Quando essa carga é removida, ele recupera 100% da conformação original. Ex: borracha natural&lt;/div&gt;

Termoplástico: Materiais que, quando aquecidos adquirem mobilidade e fluidez. São de fácil moldagem e podem ser reprocessados inúmeras vezes sem que se perca suas propriedades mecânicas. Ex: polietileno&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;
Termofixo: Materiais que podem ser moldados uma vez e, quando resfriados formam ligações cruzadas ( as cadeias poliméricas adquirem ligações C-C entre elas, unindo-as). Isso faz com que esses materiais não possam ser re-moldados, tornam-se infusíveis e, quando aquecidos, degradam-se. Ao contrário dos elastômeros, que também são reticulados, os termofixos são rígidos e bem resistentes à deformações. Ex: epóxi&lt;/div&gt;

Pesquisadores do MIT esperam usar os movimentos contínuos do material para gerar eletricidade para dispositivos nanoeletrônicos, como sensores minúsculos, ou músculos em robôs.
O material é feito de dois polímeros entrelaçados. Um age como estrutura, enquanto o outro incha como uma esponja quando absorve água. Num ambiente úmido, gotículas d’água numa superfície debaixo do material fazem o filme começar a se curvar. Assim que ele se mexe, o ar seca o filme, fazendo-o se esticar e pular, o que expõe sua superfície úmida de novo.
Gerar energia usando umidade é vantajoso porque o vapor d’água é fácil de se encontrar e relativamente fácil de se controlar na maioria dos ambientes, pelo menos se comparado ao pH e temperatura que foram usados em outros experimentos similares.
Para gerar eletricidade, o filme teria que ser combinado a um material especial, para converter a energia mecânica do movimento em carga elétrica.
Não é por acaso que o filme foi desenvolvido pelo Instituto de Pesquisa Integrada do Câncer do MIT. O material, que ainda está em fase inicial de desenvolvimento, mostra possibilidades para trabalho biomédico, tal como administração de medicamentos ou monitoramento fisiológico.&lt;br /&gt;

E aqui tem a primeira postagem da Vitrine de Polímero, um blog voltado inteira e exclusivamente para essa sub área da química.&lt;br /&gt;

Sabe, desde que eu comecei a estudar eu nunca achava nada muito relevante sobre polímeros, salvo em livros, periódicos e em sites de fontes duvidosas. Penso que, como essa área vem crescendo e tomando seu devido lugar e reconhecimento, nada mais justo do que um blog que aborde esse terma, certo?&lt;br /&gt;
Não digo que o blog será a mais nova fonte de pesquisa, mas uma boa alternativa pra pesquisar sobre algo a fim de tirar dúvidas sobre determinado assunto ou, até, ler sobre algumas notícias e curiosidades interessantes. Por enquanto o blog ainda está em fase de desenvolvimento, então qualquer dica e crítica construtiva é super bem-vinda.&lt;br /&gt;
