My Christmas Tree

Tah, Dah! We're done. After an hour of sorting through boxes and putting on the lights [thanks Dad] and decoarting. We're done. I think it looks pretty good. But please excuse all the boxes. We haven't gotten to putting them all away.

Quick update. I left Seattle behind on Wednesday and I'm back home with my family. I cannot tell you how excited I am to here and how NERVOUS I am about recieving my grades. It's not that I don't think that I did well but I'm still nervous. Ugh. I don't like being out of control. I'm going to sign off now. I have a bagillion presents I have to wrap and being a procrastinator never helped anyone. Bye!

Am I the only one who finds it difficult to shop for their parents? I'm not? Okay, good. *sigh of relief* And a long time ago I remember learning that parents love anything their child makes...right? Hopefully that's true because my sister and I drove to Seattl to go to a store called Paint the Town in U Village.When we got there they were really, really busy. Some people had to join a wait list. It was a little insane.

And because I'm not terribly original or artistic, I saw one of the sample plates with a recreation of Van Gogh's Starry Night...and I fell in love. It was so pretty. I know. I know. I'm so not original. I can't think of my own designs but I thought it ended up pretty well. My sister had finished long before me and I didn't have time to go into detail with the village that was supposed to be painted in the bottom right. But, oh well. I hope my parents like it.

I love shopping at U Village [although I must say that whoever thought it would be a good idea to build an outdoor shopping center in Seattle should be shot]. And not only because I'm addicted to Menchie's. Okay, maybe it has a lot to do with my frozen yogurt addiction...

Before we left we also stopped by Barnes & Noble and I took pictures of the Christmas light. So pretty. <3

Blue Christmas Sweater

A quick trip to Target for festive Sally Hansen nail art strips calls for a comfy sweater and jeggings! This has been my favorite sweater since I found it in early September. It is so warm and the price was fantastic. Five dollars and it was all mine. A little pricey but it was money well worth.

I've never used the Sally Hansen strips before. So it should be interesting. My little sister is addicted. Personally, I think they are WAY too expensive. $8.50 for two manicures? I could buy an entire bottle of OPI nail polish. But I guess it is fun for a splurge every now and then.

In other news. It's my last week of college before the holidays. YEEESS! I cannot wait. I'm so ready to spend time with my family, eat great food, play videogames, and invest more time into my blog. The only things standing in my way of two weeks of relaxation are two finals and two papers. *sigh* Wish me luck!

Nicole by OPI "Orna-Ment For Each Other" Swatch + Review

*sigh* I probably sound like a broken record at this point but I feel like I have to say it again. Nicole by OPI did an outstanding job with their Holiday Glitter Collection. All four of the polish are fantastic quality and the colors are drool worthy.

This particular shade, is a red polish with medium sized gold and red glitter. Out of all the polishes, I think the color is the most Christmas-y. I'm pretty sure this color is my favorite but I'm sure that will change. I can't seem to make up my mind.

Here is a closer picture. It is a better view of the gold and red glitter. As much as I love OPI, I have to admit that this holiday--with the glitter and Kardashian collections--Nicole by OPI is easily outshining its older sister company. A swatch for the final polish in this collection, "Glitter in My Stocking" will be up soon.

Another color from Nicole by OPI's Holiday Glitter Collection. I am officially obsessed with these colors. Each time I apply a polish, I think that I've found a favorite. That is, until I apply another one and my opinion shifts. This color doesn't really scream Christmas but there is no denying that its a beautiful color. Most of the purple polishes I own are much darker or lighter and I find this middle ground polish extremely refreshing. The Holiday Glitter Collection continues to impress me and I've only gotten through two shades. I can't wait to try the other two colors on! I guarantee more swatches will be coming soon. This color applies smoother than Snow-Man of My Dreams. A topcoat isn't completely necessary. *sigh* I know I keep saying this but Nicole by OPI really hit it out of the park with this collection. Simply marvelous.

Cutting Down a Christmas Tree

Hello everyone! I'm back with an outfit post. Lately I haven't been posting as often as I normally do and expect this trend to continue in the coming weeks. But this past weekend I did take some pictures when my family went Christmas tree shopping! It's tradition that every year all four of us go to pick out the Christmas tree and then we [or rather my dad] chops it down. For the last five years or so we've always gone to the Double 4 Tree Farm. They have a cute little ornament store and serve free apple cider and they come around with tractors to bring your tree to the front. What's not to love? I highly recommend it if you live in Washington state near the Tacoma/Fife/Puyallup area.

And tree hunting makes for hungry people, so we had to stop and eat before heading home to set up our tree. And then go thrifting at Goodwill. One of my favorite things to do, especially if they're having a 50% off all donated goods like they were having this past weekend. I got quite a lot of stuff. Two blazers. Two cardigans. One jacket. One button-up top. I think that's it. Oh, no! I also got two Christmas sweaters because I NEED to look good on December 24th and 25th.

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, it will soon be the most wonderful time of the year. What does that mean? Glitter nail polish, of course. And Nicole by OPI's newest Glitter Holiday Collection is the perfect remedy for anyone suffering from glitter withdrawal. Swatches of all four colors will be coming soon but as soon as I tried on this shimmery, cool blue I knew that it deserved it's own post.

The glitter in this polish is chunky and gritty. A top coat is needed for a glossy, smooth finish. But as much as I love this color, I have a strong feeling that it won't just chip but remove entire patches of polish with little effort. Quick last minutes warning: I've used this color twice and the polish in the bottle is already starting to get goopy and hard to apply--clumping on the brush. It isn't a huge deal now but it will only get worse as time goes on. Just something to be aware of before buying. *sigh* But I really, really love the color.

P.S. Sorry for the depressing state of my cuticles. With finals week approaching, my nerves are fried.

How To Make Pumpkin Spice Cake Pops

1. Mix together 1/2 cup of unsalter butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 large eggs, and 3/4 cup of pumpkin puree

2. Mix together 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of backing soda, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, and 1/2 teaspoon salt

3. And then mix it all together

5. Put batter in a pie pan

5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (177 degrees C) and cook for 18-20 minutes

6. Take the cake and mix it in with frosting until it easy to mold (similar to the consistency of cookie-dough)

7. Using an ice cream scooper, form the dough into balls

8. Dip the lollipop sticks into melted chocolate and push the stick into the balls. The chocolate will harden and prevent the cake from falling off the stick.

9. Dip the ball into the melted chocolate until the entire surface is covered

10. Optional: We made these cake pops around Halloween and so we used black food dye to make faces and a green tictac to act as the stem. But be as creative as you want at this step.

If you try to make your own cake pops I hope they turn out as delicious and beautiful as ours. It was really fun to get into the kitchen. Even though I don't like pumpkin, I loved eating these. Anyway. I hope you liked this post and I might be doing more baking posts in the future.

Lipstick, Books, & Towels at Wal-Mart

Last week I ran to Wal-Mart to pick up a few essentials and I decided to take a few pictures. I hope you like them! I'm sorry that I haven't been as consistant as I have in the past. My First Trip to Kohl's

Last Thursday I went to Kohl's for the FIRST TIME!! I only bought a few things but I also had my first photoshoot in Kohl's. Well, if you can consider the pictures above [taken by my sister] a photoshoot. My first impression was that that store was so big. And I thought that they were having a really good Veteran's Day sale...but then my sister told me that most of the stuff was always on sale.

The prices were reasonable. A little pricer than Forever 21. Around the American Eagle price range. But I was very impressed in the quality of the clothes and the celebrity collections that Kohl's carried. Simply Vera. Lc Lauren Conrad. Jennifer Lopez Collection. They had really cute pieces but they were more expensive than the "no-name" brands that were also carried. Being totally broke and cheap, I bought from the "no-name" category.

Last weekend we experienced out first big rainstorm. Sigh. It will only get wetter and colder from here on out. Question. Do you like outfit posts inside the store? Or should I save myself [and my sister, who took these pictures] from a little big of embarrassment and strange looks from people and take them at home? I thought a change of scenery would be nice now and then. But what do you think?

Aerie Holiday Trunk Show 2011

Last Thursday I had the amazing opportunity to attend Aerie's Holiday Trunk Show at my local mall with a couple of my friends. I first heard about the show through Aerie's twitter and then I went to their Facebook page to learn more about the details. Essentially it was an event open to anyone who wanted a glimpse at their new holiday collection before anyone else.

I will admit, it being my first trunk show, I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very low-key and all the girl's were extremely friendly. When I first arrived, not much of the new collection was out but the girls working were doing their best to get everything on display for shoppers. I checked out the Slim Gyms [also known as yoga pants], the hats [do you like my picture above], and then the bras [all of them were 40% off]. But my favorite pieces weren't actually clothing items but the slippers. Perfect for the holiday season. I couldn't decided which ones I like best. Heck, I couldn't even decide which color I wanted. But in the end I decided on blue. I felt they were more festive. I'm also kind of regretting not getting this super cute deer top. But I don't really need it. Do I?

We finally left the store but I'm sad to say minus the puff-ball hat. But I enjoyed my experience--even if my wallet wouldn't agree--and I'm officially in the mood for Christmas even though it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Before I went to college I never lived near an Aerie store and I wasn't really familiar with the merchandise. It shouldn't be surprising that I like the stuff so much considering what an American Eagle junkie I am. For those who don't know, Aerie is more laid back style of clothes. Comparable to the things at VS PINK--but for the American Eagle girl. That means less branding and more affordable.

Celebrating Veteran's Day!

Hello, all! I hope everyone is having a FANTASTIC Veteran's Day. I'm at home with my family to celebrate the three day weekend, all the veterans [past and present] that have served our country, and finishing my last mid-term. But it will only be a couple of weeks before I start stressing out about finals. Yeah...?

The family and I are having a pretty low-profile day, staying at home and eating. So I didn't actually where this today. This was one of the outfits I wore to class last week--while I was still at school. Really simple. But I love the infinity scarf that I got from Romy and it was a really, really good deal. Only seven dollars, I think. Romy is a smaller boutique that is becoming popular here in the Northwest but I believe that they have stores in Arizona and Montana as well.

But enough about my scarves. I would like to take the time to say thank you. To my dad, to my grandpa, to my aunt, and to everyone reading who is or has a family in the military. My dad's side of the family is very involved in the military and although most of them don't actually read my blog, I would still like to say thank you. Today is the day that we get to show our appreciation to our soldiers. And whether you agree with the war in Iraq or Afghanistan is a moot subject because these men and women deserve our respect despite our political opinions. They are very brave. I don't think I would be able to do what they do.

Bath & Body Works Haul!

Candle haul! Not exactly the most...common thing on my blog. But lately I've been really, really into candles. Especially the ones from Bath and Body Works. I got all of these during their 2 for $20 sale. But please don't think that I went out and just dropped $50 on candles. I bought these during two separate trips separated by at least a month. And as you can see I've already started using them.

I love burning them before I go to bed. They make my room smell SO good! And I love all my candles but I do have a few favorites. S'MORES, Leaves, and Autumn Apples are probably my favorites. I also really like Spiced Cider but they were all gone when I went to the store. Guh. So frustrating.

Do you guys like Slatkin & Co. candles? If you've tried them, what are you favorite scents. I'd love to hear your recommendations for the next time I go--which won't be for a very long time. I promise! My wallet can't handle this much shopping.

My mid-terms are over! I had my last one on Monday for my Women Studies class. I hope that I did well. But with these things, sometimes, it's hard to tell. I don't know. We should get out results back soon-ish. So here's hoping I won't be crying when I get the news. Moving on from school related news, this is the debut of my X-Men tee that I picked up from the Men's section in Target a few weekends ago.

I swear that the men's section has the best tees. The designs are really cool and the fit is great. I can wear it to sleep, to work out in, or under a cardigan [or in this case a plaid shirt] on a day when I want to appear more casual. I wore this on Wednesday. I find that Wednesdays and Thursdays more than any day of the week are the ones where I consciously strive for comfort.

I think that it is so cool when a woman dresses uber masculine but still manages to look effortless and feminine. I'm not quite sure if I am able to exude that kind of vibe but I like to think that I do. Just in case you were wondering, I'm a huge X-Men fan and I didn't just buy the T-shirt because I thought I would be cool. I've seen all the movies--except for the First Class one that was just released this summer. I used to watch X-Men: Evolutions as a kid and I thought it was brilliant. And as the sign of a total nerd, I did read the comic books growing up. Sigh. I was such a nerd. Well, I still am--actually--because they're still chilling in a pile in my room back home and I do occasionally browse through them.

Here are some photos that I took in my dorm while I should have been studying. Walter, my penguin pillow pet is saying hello, and this is what I see when I'm studying on my bed. Super fancy. I know.

"A Girl With Kaleidoscope Eyes."

Hello! New outfit post today featuring pictures from...June. I don't know how all these great photos got lost in my files. My dad was kind enough to take them for me. Thank you! And they look really, really good. I believe we were going to dinner to celebrate my graduation from high school but I can't be sure.

The fall TV line-up is killing me. There are so many good shows and I find it terribly hard to focus when I should be doing my homework. Vampire Diaries. NCIS. Project Runway. How I Met Your Mother. CSI. Law & Order: UK. Big Bang Theory. Desperate Housewives. Psych. And so many others.

I have a bit of a confession to make. In case you couldn't tell from the long, long list above--I'm a bit of a TV junkie. And the only things saving my GPA is the fact that we don't have room in our dorm room for a TV. After writing this post I plan to paint my nails. NOTD post should be up soon-ish.

My New Vera Bradley Bag!

Hello! What do you think of my new Vera Bradley bag? Pretty, huh? Okay. I know that it is not everyone's cup of tea. To be honest, I feel that a lot of Vera Bradley products can look a bit...matronly. It isn't normally my style. But I will bite my tongue when it comes to this particular Vera Bradley bag.

I think it's really cute. Very easy and beachy. Not that I've been going to the beach that often due to the decline in the temperature. But I still love this one. I use it as my library bag, mostly. Since I am horrible at keeping track of anything that isn't permanently attached to my person, it should come as no surprise that I cannot keep track of library books to save my life. I keep everything that I check out--books, movies, magazines--in this bag and I haven't had to pay a late fine since.

The fresh and vibrant colors and the youthful pattern keep the bag from looking too granny-ish. But there is still that underlying tone of homemade goods that is very identifiable with older woman.
