BSNL Slashed prepaid tariffs

BSNL the largest telecom operator in India has slashed local STD and Sms tariff for its prepaid mobile subscribers. The new 'All in 49' scheme in which prepaid subscriber can call local, STD and Sms at 49 paise per minute. BSNL has also reduced the price of this special tariff voucher. Rs. 29 tarriff voucher is valid for 180 days and Rs 49/- voucher is valid for 365 days. By this Special Tariff Voucher (STV) all local call, STD and Sms will be charged at 49 paise. BSNL has withdrawn 'Golden 50' plan and this new plan 'All in 49' plan will be effective from 1st November 2009.

Beware of Mobile hackers. They are trying new tricks to steal your Mobile SIM card details. Today i have received one forwarded email saying that if you recieve any call on mobile and asked to press any number then there is great possibility that the call is from mobile hackers. Here is the excerts of the email i received:

"If you receive a phone call on your Mobile from any person saying that
they are checking your mobile line or going to give you some
offer/prize, and ask you to press #90 or #09 or any other number.
End that call immediately without pressing any Number.
There is a company in Pakistan that is using a device that once you
press #90 or #09 they can access your SIM card and make calls at your
expense.
They are misusing it to make calls from Indian numbers.
Forward this message to as many friends as u can, to stop it.
This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.
There are over 3 million mobile phones affected by this. You can check
this news at CNN web site also

Significant total solar eclipse of century on July 22

According to astronomers and research scientist, the most significant total solar eclipse of the century is falling on Wednesday July 22, 2009. Scientists and astronomers around the world are preparing to study the solar eclipse specially the study of shadow bands.

Shadow bands are thin wavy lines of alternating light and dark that can be seen moving and undulating in parallel on plain-coloured surfaces immediately before and after a total solar eclipse. However, a new theory has been put forward by Dr. Stuart Eves, who works for Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), that shadow bands might actually be caused by infrasound, which involves the shadow of the moon travelling at supersonic speed which in turn produces high frequency sound that humans can't hear and because of this, creates a shockwave in front of the shadow, which causes shadow bands.

'Maitri' the Indian astronomy station at Antarctica got the first chance to study shadaow bands for the first time on November 23, 2003 for the stretch of 11 minutes (six minutes before and four minutes after the eclipse) which was exclusive and rare study which happens in 1000 years.

The solar eclipse of July 22 is very important because at this time the Sun and the Moon would be farthest from Earth. This solar eclipse will be the longest eclipse of twenty first century, and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132. The total eclipse will be of 6 minutes 39 seconds. The total solar eclipse will be visible from a narrow corridor through northern India, Eastern Nepal, Northern Bangladesh, Bhutan, The northern tip of Myanmar, Central China and the Pacific Ocean. Scientists are expecting to study larger shadow bands under this total solar eclipse.

Here is one motivational story which i received by email from one of my friend, sharing with you:-

The Chains of Belief

As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact
that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their
front leg.

No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime,
break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not. I saw a
trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just
stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same
size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are
conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can
still hold them, so they never try to break free."

I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds
but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they
were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief
that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

According to the news the inflation rate in India has come down to 0.13 % which is lowest in thirty years. As per economics Inflation means rise in general price level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. A chief measure of general price-level inflation is the general inflation rate, which is the percentage change in a general price index (Consumer Price Index). When prices rise the functional currency buys fewer goods and services means decline in real value of money or loss of purchasing power of currency. One year ago inflation rate in India reached near 11% and now it has come down to 30 year low at 0.13%. Since 13 weeks inflation rate in India is below 1%.

Inflation may have reached its lowest, but still today the prices of of general items like vegetable, oils, pulses, spices are becoming more expensive and going out of reach of common man. Government should not only take measures to check inflation but also try to keep check on price rise of essential items as most of the population is living below poverty line. Today even middle class people are having problems due to price rise of essential items.

RBI: Local Cheques to be cleared in One day

Reserve Bank Of India has directed all Scheduled Commercial Indian banks to clear all local cheques in one day or at the most next day and all outstation cheques within 14 days.

For local cheques credit and debit shall be given on the same day or at the most the next day of their presentation in clearing. Ideally, in respect of local clearing, banks shall permit usage of the shadow credit afforded to the customer accounts immediately after closure of relative return clearing and in any case withdrawal shall be allowed on the same day or maximum within an hour of commencement of business on the next working day, subject to usual safeguards.

Timeframe for collection of cheques drawn on state capitals / major cities / other locations to be 7/10/14 days respectively. If there is any delay in collection beyond this period, interest at the rate specified in the CCP of the bank, shall be paid. Types of Computer Viruses

In computing terminology, a ‘malicious code’ is a term used for computer viruses and programs designed to cause damage to computers. Other types of destructive PC worms are known as Internet virus including the examples like Worms and Trojans.

Program/File Infector

Falling under the category of parasitic viruses, a program or file infector attempts to infect the files with extension code like .exe, .com, .drv, .dil, .bin, .ovl, and .sys. Macro Computer Virus

It behaves in the same way as other computer viruses do. As the name signifies, they are sometimes more than one type. These are hybrids and are known as multi-partite virus.

Polymorphic Viruses

It is a kind of virus which produces different but operational copies for itself. Its attack is considered to be extremely dangerous as virus detectors will not be able to detect all instances of virus attacks simultaneously. And this is one of the reasons why it is known to be strategically designed.

Stealth Viruses

A stealth virus uses different mechanisms to prevent recognition by antivirus software. It tries to escape detection either by redirecting the disk head to head to read another sector or modifying the file size shown in the Directory listing.

Classification of some viruses is not possible as they are the file type viruses which start behaving as computer worms with an activation code.

Computer Runs Slowly--7 Easy Ways to Speed It Up

By John Mowatt: A new computer will perform at its best speed. How fast it runs is of course a function of it's components. The fastest computers have a high end processor and a lot of RAM memory.

Then again your speed for surfing the internet depends entirely on your internet connection speed. Obviously a high speed cable connection is much faster than a dial up.

When your computer seems to gradually run slower over a period of time there can be a number of reasons for this and you can correct the problems fairly easily in most cases.

1. Do you have enough memory in your machine? Anything less than 1 gigabyte of RAM is barely enough these days. If you have less you should upgrade to at least 1 Gigabyte of RAM and 2 or more gigabytes would be better. Same applies to your hard drive. If you download a lot of stuff you should have a big hard drive. A minimum of 100 gigabytes is needed these days.

2. Have you got a lot of programs you never use on your hard drive? Uninstall as many as possible. The extra hard drive space will speed things up especially if you have a small hard drive. Aim to have no more than 50 to 60 percent of your hard drive space in use.

3. You should defragment your hard drive regularly to keep things running fast and smoothly. When pieces of programs are scattered throughout the hard drive the computer is slowed down as it attempts to find the many pieces of a program. All the pieces of a program should be together on the hard drive and defragmenting accomplishes this.

4. Regular use of an antispyware program will eliminate spyware which has been installed on your machine by someone unknown. Adaware and Spybot are free programs which you can download. Your computer resources are used up by spyware as it goes about its dirty business. Take it out and speed up your machine.

5. Many people will have months or even years of old emails taking up hard drive space. Remove all deleted items, sent items and old inbox items regularly and you will free up a surprising amount of hard drive room. This will enable your machine to run faster.

6. Your startup menu may be clutterd with all kinds of material which need not be there. You can access any of these programs quite easily if you need them. No need to have them slow down the booting of the machine. Edit them out of the startup menu. No need to delete them,just remove them from startup and booting will become faster.

7. All Windows PCs will slow down over a period of time. The computer registry gradually becomes choked with excess material. This greatly slows down the operating system as it tries to locate the data it needs to run your computer. The solution is to remove all the unwanted data from the registry and clean it up.

If you have the necessary computer knowledge you can do this manually using the Regedit function which is installed in all Windows computers for this purpose. Regedit will give you access to the registry files and you can then delete any material you don't want in there.

A serious caution is in order at this point however. If you do not know exactly what you are doing you should not remove any data from the registry. Many entries are there for the purpose of running the computer and if you should delete any of these important files your computer could be disabled. It might become necessary to reinstall the operating system to get the machine back in working order. Needless to say you want to avoid this at all costs.

Fortunately there is a safe and easy way to remove the unecessary material from the registry. You simply need to download a registry repair application from the internet and this will take care of the problem for you quickly and easily.

A number of these programs are available to download and they vary considerably in ease of use and in performance. We purchased and tested several of them and found that some were superior to others.

The first necessity is to get a free scan of your computer which most of these applications offer. This will determine whether or not you do have a registry problem and will report to you what the problems are.

You can look at this report and decide what you would like to do. It is well worthwhile to pay the reasonable charge to have the registry repaired and this is what we recommend.

The registry cleaner will quickly do it's work and your computer will be returned to full operating speed. Your computer will run like a new machine again.

Free cash withdrawal from any bank

From 1st April 2009 you don't need to search ATM of your own bank. Now you can withdraw cash from any bank ATM of your choice. Last year Reserve Bank of India had issued directives to limit withdrawal charges from other bank ATM to 20/- Rs. Now from 1st April there will be no charges for withdrawal of cash from any bank ATM. There is also no charges for checking account balance from any bank. However bank can charge extra fees if withdrawal is made from a Credit Card.

Google Adsense Showing Wrong Reports

I was surprised to see Google Adsense report today. It is showing wrong reports. In Adsense for search it is showing one search and one click with eCPM of $4.44 but in earnings column it is zero. I got one click for adsense for content with earning of $ 0.35 The total earning however shows $ 0.36. I am unable to understand why it is so. Either it is a bug or something which is showing incorrect information or may be some other fault. Here is the screenshot of the same-

IPL- DLF Indian Premier League Cricket Competition

Indian Premier League is also known as DLF Indian Premier League. In short it is called IPL. Since PAN card has been made mandatory for Indians and it is mandatory to furnish PAN details for opening a bank account, Investment in Mutual Funds, Opening D'Mat account and several other activities, due to which more individuals from all over India are applying for PAN card. But which state is no. 1 in PAN card allotment ? An official data published by Income Tax department shows that Maharashtra State was No. 1 in terms of allotment of PAN card to individuals in 2008 calander year. In Maharashtra Total 32,49,467 PAN card was allotted to individuals in 2008 and 6,58,878 PAN card was alloted in just around two months in 2009. Uttar Pradesh holds the second position by total 17,30,798 PAN card allottment to individuals.
