Try and control your steam

A good advise to always remember when you are on a losing streak is to just stand up and walk away. There will be no point in losing more money during a down swing. Diamond Club will now be holding its 25,000 Guaranteed Texas-Hold'em Poker Tournament every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with 500 pesos buy-in, 500 pesos rebuy limited to 1 per player till the 3rd level of play, no entry fee but with 10% service charge. Let us have a little break from our daily poker discussions, and reflect on what happened yesterday?

Halalan 2010, just ended on May 11,2010. A day after the elections, we now are glued on what are the results of the elections. May 10, 2010 was seriously a hot and humid day to start with. Most of us, woke up early and hurried to our respective precints to cast a vote, that would help our country in so many ways. But, sadly upon arriving we were greeted with dismay. Why? It seemed that the so called Electronic or Automated polling system makes voting a hassle, instead of making it quick and easy. I think most of us will strongly agree on this.

It is quiet disheartening to see this happen, with most of us having high hopes in the new system that they have introduced. All in all it was slow and tiring, because most of us did wait for hours just to cast our votes. Hopefully, we also voted right. The next we do is wait for the results. Wishfully, this election will result to a good road for your country's future.

As it was announced earlier by PokerCebu.co.nr, Cebu would be having one big poker tournament this May – The 1Million Sharpe Classic Tournament. But, ALAS! After some searching, it has been discovered that Cebu will be having not just one but two – ONE MILLION PESOS GUARANTEED POKER TOURNAMENT! YES that is TWO (2) Poker tournaments happening in Cebu this May. WOW! That makes poker in Cebu even hotter this summer!!

All-in Poker Sport Club just announced that the poker club will be having a one-day 1 Million Pesos Guaranteed Poker tournament that is scheduled on May 29, 2010. Registrations are currently on going for the said event with a buy-in of 5,000Php + 500Php this includes (1) re-buy option at 5,000Php and (1) Add-on at 5,000Php. As we all know poker is a game that involves money. The amount of money you have to play poker is called a bankroll. As a poker player, your bankroll is therefore, the soul of your poker career. So, it is safe to say that without you protecting your bankroll, you risk your career in poker. But, the good news is with proper discipline and dedication you can in fact get a good bankroll going. How? The answer to this question is proper poker bankroll management.

What is Bankroll management?

Bankroll management is an exercise or a practice that will allow you to make money while playing poker last. Some people consider bankroll management as an art rather than a science. But sadly, some poker players tend to forget and see bankroll management as an important skill in becoming a winning poker player. In reality, solid and proper bankroll management is the first and most important skill to have when playing poker.

So, if you want to become a winning poker player. Here are some tips on how to practice solid bankroll management.

Determine how much money you are able to dedicate for playing poker. It is recommended you have 25-50 buy-ins to start with.
Determine the limit you can play in, this is dictated by your initial bankroll. More or less it is ideal to have 25-50 buy-ins when you start. So, if you are playing with an initial bankroll of 50$, you might want to consider playing at blinds of 0.05$/0.10$.
Know when to go up a limit it is ideal that you have around 25+ buy-ins for the limit you are planning to play in.
When do you go down a limit? You will need to go down a limit when you only have 15 buy-ins left for that limit you are currently playing in.
Never be too proud to go down a limit. You might think you are good and well skilled for that limit you are currently playing in. But, as your bankroll dictates you are endangering it. Remember use your brains, and not your ego!
Make it a habit to use your bankroll ONLY for poker! Never use your bankroll for anything else.

Poker has always been about money. And your bankroll is what drives you to earn money in poker. Instil good bankroll management, and you will succeed in your poker career. Good Luck and may your poker career be long.

Poker Basics – 10 Tournament Lingos You Should Need To Know

With the increasing popularity of Poker worldwide, Poker tournaments are gaining popularity as well. Worldwide there are hundreds or even thousands of poker tournaments held daily. Hundreds of newbies and pros enter poker tournaments to try out their skills and luck, in the hopes of bagging the top money prizes in a poker tournament. If you are one of those players who are starting out in poker, it is ideal to learn the poker tournament lingos. It allows you to avoid looking like a total fish at the tables. So, here are basic tournament lingos you should know:

Tournament Buy in – It is a fixed amount of cash that you need to pay to enter the tournament. Most tournament buy-ins comes with a registration fee which is around 10% of the buy-in amount.
Starting Chips – It is the fixed amount of chips that you will get upon entering the tournament, depending on the tournament structure and rules starting chips range from 5,000 chips to 20,000. So, it is ideal to know how much chips you will prior to entering a tournament.
Re-buy – Some poker tournaments offer re-buys which is mostly equal to the amount of cash you initially buy-in for. Most tournaments allow re-buys only before the first tournament break.
Freeze Out – Some poker tournaments employ a freeze-out structure. This type of poker tournament DO NOT allow any re-buys.
Tournament Prize Pool – A prize pool is the amount of cash prize in total in relation to the buy-ins. This prize pool is divided by percentage (%) among the players which finish in the money.
In the Money – this is the place which is high enough to get a percentage of the prize pool.
Ante – an ante is pre-determined amount of chips that you will have to put in to pot before cards are dealt. This amount is excluding the amount which blinds need to bet before the flop.
Tournament Break – It is practically a time given to the players to relax and take a small break from tournament play. Most tournaments give players a break of 20 minutes to an hour.
Final Table – this is the last table remaining in a poker tournament which consists of 9 players to that competes for the top cash prizes in a tournament.
Bubble – the ever hurting bubble is the place where a player busts out of the tournament before getting into the money.

These terms are the most basic tournament lingos you will need to understand and play effectively in any poker tournament, you might play in.

Poker Terms - Basics You Should Know

Poker is both a game of skill and luck. And most people love to play the game because it is in fact an enjoyable past time that can be enjoyed by everyone. While most of us dream of hitting it big playing poker, we must never forget the basics. So, we must know what the basics are, let us start with some poker terms or lingo that are commonly used at the tables.

1.Board - In Texas-Hold'em the board is where you base your hole cards + board to make the best hand you can make. The board consists of 5 cards where the first 3 cards are opened first after the first betting round, and so on and so forth

2.Pre-flop - The pre-flop is the betting round before the first 3 cards of the board is shown.

3.Flop - it is after the first 3 cards are shown and it the 2nd betting round. At this point in time you will need make what hand you can have with only 3 cards.

4. Turn - the turn is the 3rd betting around where 4 cards are now shown on the board. At this point, you will have to make the best card combination with the 4 cards that are opened.

5. River - The river is when all 5 cards are opened. It is here that all final bets are made or the 5th betting round.

6.Call - A call is when you only call the bet of the player which made the bet.

7. Raise - A raise is when a player ups the bet the first player makes, a raise but be 2 times as much as the initial bet.

8. Reraise - A reraise is a when a player decides to raise the raise of the players who made it. I must be 1 bet bigger compared to the raise.
