I am currently gazing out of my studio window and wishing for
sun - as I'm sure most of you are. Whilst researching colour for my
summer collection, I stumbled across these stunning paintings by
the incredible Diana Delgado. I hope they light up your day as much
as they have mine.

Ahhhh summer lovin... on a freezing cold January day we shot our
spring/summer 2013 lookbook on the undeniably cool and gorgeous
Irina Lazareanu. She bounded around the set like a puppy so excited
about it all, even though she was FREEZING! You would never know it
- these clothes are begging for a sunset in some chic faraway
place.

BRING ON SUMMER!!! I can't wait x

Last week we had a gorgeous little tea party at Mari Vanna, the
bonkers Russian tea rooms in Knightsbridge, to celebrate the launch
of our spring/summer 2013 collection. Cake was eaten, laughs were
had and generally it was a huge success. The collection goes live
on www.nelly.com in a few days and when it does you will be the
first to know!

So, I have had a minor revolution. My friend Jenny McVeigh
(super-talented, extrodinarily bright Oxford graduate and magic
person) has written a book. It is called The Fever Tree -
the publishers can explain it better:

"A poignant and powerful love story set in the diamond
mining capital of 1870s South Africa. When her father dies
suddenly in financial ruin, young Frances Irvine is left destitute
and alone. She must choose between a life of servitude playing
nursemaid to her aunt's children in Manchester or marry a man she
barely knows. Abandoning her privileged life in London society she
chooses marriage and emigrates to South Africa, to marry penniless
Dr Edwin Matthews.

On the voyage out Frances is recklessly swept up in a
passionate and illicit love affair and she dreams that she has
found an alternative to her loveless future with Edwin. Instead she
is forced to travel deep into the desert to meet her fiancé, who is
fighting to contain a smallpox epidemic. Frances finds it difficult
to adjust to life in the arid but beautiful Karoo and she yearns
for a life of ease. A burgeoning closeness between her and Edwin is
disrupted when news arrives that they must move to the diamond
mining heartland of The Cape to fight the epidemic.

Now she must choose - between this strange but brave man who
is her husband or the lure of passion and the promise of an easier
life...

The Fever Tree is a powerful and moving novel set
against the raw backdrop of nineteenth-century colonial South
Africa and an achingly poignant love story about a young woman
learning to finally take responsibility for her own life."

But that isn't the revolution I have had. It inspired the
revolution because as strange as it may sound, I had forgotten what
it feels like to get completely drawn in to a book so deeply that
it takes you to another world so far that you can forget, just for
a moment, about the one you are really in. I love the feeling of
paper in my hands and turning the page. I spend far to much time
looking at a screen and waste too much time worrying about stupid
apps on my phone that are supposed to be entertaining me. If I want
to "draw something" from now on I'm going to do it on paper and I'm
going to read. Whenever I can.

If you haven't read a good book in a while, get The Fever
Tree. It's a genuine page-turner and I promise you won't
regret it.

xx

My right hand just walked in with one of these...

...a Fashionary. As usual, I'm probably being very slow on the
uptake but this is a useful bit of kit for all you fashion
designers out there.

The front is like a fashion dictionary with all sorts of random
information - from button sizing to different collar shapes, and
the back is filled with blank pages with very faint outlines of
bodies, great for ideas on the move. I'm gonna get one.

This is my gorgeous friend Joey Wolffer and her amazing bus, The
StyleLiner. I love off-the-wall things like this, or anything
actually that is a bit different. It's quite rare in this
overexposed world we live in. Here's what she has to say about
it:

"The StyleLiner, the world's first treasure chest on wheels, is
a mobile style gallery offering limited numbers of extraordinary
pieces hand-picked by The StyleLiner's creator Joey Wolffer.

What started as a twenty-foot potato chip truck has been
completely revamped to feel as though you have just stepped into a
chic boutique. However, what you will find is not your typical shop
- instead you will find a stylish yet inviting retreat in which you
will surely want to take everything you find home with you. The
accessories aboard The StyleLiner are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces
that Joey has traveled the world for. They are the type of
accessories that will have people stopping you on the street asking
where you got it.

In addition to small and large scale events and specializing in
private home visits, The StyleLiner, which also includes some of
Joey's own designs, is becoming a mainstay in New York City and the
Hamptons during the summer and Palm Beach, Florida during the
winter."

It may look very bohemian but step inside and you will find
gorgeous and luxurious one-of a-kind pieces that you definitely
won't find here. Apart from that, Joey is one of the coolest and
nicest people you will ever meet, so next time you are in New York,
keep your eyes peeled for Joey's potato truck on a very chic corner
somewhere.

Find out more here.

'til next time,

xx

Waiting for a baby to arrive has never been my strong point.
Mine are always, always late and the most annoying thing about that
is not the fact that you desperately want to meet the little one
and the waiting is torture, but the endless text messages that
stream in from well-meaning friends from the due date onwards to
the tune of, "have you had the baby yet?" Oh yeah sorry did I
forget to tell you?!

Anyway, I have thankfully got a gorgeous bunch of friends down
in Stroud - where I live - and we have been passing the time of a
winter's evening stitching and bitching (although there doesn't
seem to be much bitching going on - YET). Each week one of us has
everyone else round to their house and the husband, lover, friend
has to play butler and cook for the ladies. It has been a real
life line for me away from the hustle and bustle of my normal city
life and I've made loads of things that have been staring at me for
years begging to be done.

Here's a changing mat I've made for the babe:

And a lampshade that is still in progress:

I bought these stamps in a charity shop six years ago with the
intention of doing this and have finally got it happening! And I
found this stamp in the box which must be worth a fair bit - guess
who?

And at the top of the blog you can see a teeny-tiny waistcoat I
knitted for the autumn baby that is now clearly not coming til
winter!

I'll keep you posted with news of the babe.

Until next time,

xx

Last week was Mum's birthday which coincided nicely with Harry
Becher throwing a beautiful autumn party at Petersham Nurseries in
aid of his charity, Too Many Women. He founded the charity after he
lost his mother to cancer and has, after last week, raised over a
million pounds towards cancer research. Now that is one way to deal
with such devastating grief.

We ate beautiful food, laughed our heads off and Ronnie Wood
sang Mum Happy Birthday, which was the highlight of her year! My
fellow gorgeous blogger Liberty Ross was there with her other half,
and here is Lucy Yeomans looking fabulous in the ferns.

READ

Earlier this month, Sienna visited Ethiopia to see what the
International Medical Corps were doing about the famine in
Ethiopia. As their global ambassador, she is often off to far away
dangerous places trying to raise awareness about all the horrors of
the world that we all seem oblivious to as we go about our lives. I
was so swept up in the beauty and wonder of the London shows, and
when I saw these pictures it did sharpen my outlook somewhat. Not
to say that fashion isn't important, because we all get a lot of
pleasure from it, but I think it is important to put everything
into perspective now and again.

Sien says, "Without immediate humanitarian intervention, more
than 390,000 children are at risk of starvation. IMC is on the
ground providing emergency nutrition services and health care to
vulnerable populations in Ethiopia as well as in Kenya and Somalia,
but they need ongoing support to meet the massive needs, which are
only expected to expand in the coming months. Ongoing support will
literally make the difference between life and death for thousands
of children."

For more detailed information about International Medical Corps
drought and famine response throughout east Africa, please visit:

I was recently approached by Survival International to design a
T-shirt for them and here it is. Their mission is to protect and
preserve tribal people across the globe and their
environments. There are so few people still living true to
their cultures and traditions, so for me this charity is really
important. Go and check out their website, it's really
fascinating and incredibly beautiful to see: SURVIVALINTERNATIONAL.ORG

The painting on the T-shirt I designed is by my good friend,

I want to talk all about how happy I am that my sister is home;
and show you gorgeous pictures of her on set dolled up like a belly
dancer; and tell you all about how I took my kids to the Giffords
Circus again and what an awe-inspiring, mind-blowing riot it was -
but all I can think about is what a terribly sad state the world is
in. Have we really come this far to be hiding in our homes
terrified of what these young kids might do next? My friends who
live in Hackney are terrified to leave their homes... it's like
living in a war zone. I for one really hope that somebody gets on
top of this situation - and fast. If the infrastructure we
rely on to keep us and our children safe is powerless to do
anything we are living in anarchy and who can predict what happens

I'm in sporadically sunny north Devon for my summer holidays
with my family. There's nowhere in the world I would rather be when
the sun shines. It's perfect paradise.

Clovelly - the beautiful fishing village where my son was born.
First baby to be born there in 30 years!

I've Got Your Number designed by Joshua and Millie Mercer,
aged 12 and made using only recycled yellow pages.

On Sunday, my good friend, Plum Sykes, asked me to be on the
judging panel for the wearable art festival in our local village,
Painswick. Obviously with Plum being involved this was one
fashion fabulous event! Keith Allen was our compere, and other
judges include the incredible milliner Stephen Jones, Detmar Blow,
Beatrix Ong, Daniel Chadwick and Lulu Guinness. The festival
was set up by local fabric hero Tim Davies, as a way to get the
community to come together and be creative. And crikey what a
turnout! I was so impressed with the effort that everyone had made,
particularly the little children who showed some amazing
imagination with very limited resources (a lot of the garments were
made from recycled materials). Here are some of my favourites
from the day.

Tie Warp designed by Jessica Fowler, aged 12.

Yesterday's news designed by the Croft School Art Club, aged
7-11.

Watch this space, I predict this lot will go far.

Chickpea burger.

My clever little step sister, Natasha Corrett, and a great
family friend of ours, Vicki Edgson have hit the nail on the head.
From next week, they will be stocking their Honestly Healthy food
friend in the hallowed Selfridges food hall. I for one am
super excited about this, as its right around the corner from my
office. The only down side is I will have no more excuses to eat
garbage falafels on the Edgware Road. This is what they say...

Food with your body in mind.

Finally, an antidote to the glut of so-called health foods that
are actually anything but. The brainchild of organic chef Natasha
Corrett and leading nutritional therapist Vicki Edgson, Honestly
Healthy is new, fresh, balanced and alkaline range of vegetarian
foods created to work in harmony with your body.

Honestly Healthy's delicious, nourishing meals come fresh from
the kitchen every day and are brimming in alkalising ingredients
that help balance the typically acidic Western diet. Honestly
Healthy provides food to support the body's natural function,
sustaining energy and providing a nutritious alternative to
mass-produced, factory-based food. With one of these dishes on your
plate, you can be sure that you are eating food as nature intended,
whilst supporting local farmers and safeguarding the fertility of
our land.

I say bring it on.

Red rice with chickpea and tahini salad.

Portobello and Quinoa

Pearl barley and tofu.

This Graduate Fashion Week marked the end of an era for my old
college, Central St Martins. This is the last year that the
students were based at the famous hallowed halls of Charing Cross
Road, where I witnessed many a miracle (most of them performed by
Chris Kane incidentally). Last Tuesday night was the students'
final collections show and it was outstanding. These are my
favourite designers of the bunch. I have picked these guys
particularly because I feel like they really show what it means to
be a Saint Martins graduate. The collections are mostly
uncommercial and totally brilliantly imaginative. It is through
allowing and pushing people to go as far as they possibly can and
beyond that amazing talent seems to emerge from this magical place.
And of course, the special tutors who I hope aren't going anywhere
- apart from to their new swanky building down the road. Annabel
Luton did gorgeous elegant prints. Crimson Rose O'Shea did a
fabulously colourful collection and played with proportions really
successfully.

Flaminia Saccucci's printed latex was stunning. Ivan Curia Nunes
did gorgeous menswear, and I loved the accessories. Katie Jones
incredible crochet blew me away. I loved Lucie Sutton's collection,
it felt contemporary, relevant and commercial. I thought Manami
Sakurai's giant quilting was adorable and classic CSM off-its-head.
Momo Wang's collection was bananas with amazing colours and
multitudes of different prints all layered up together - this one
really stood out. I loved Sheg Wei Wang's amazing knits and Steven
Tai had amazing texture in his collection I look forward to many
more amazingly inspiring young designers emerging from SaintMartins
when it moves home.

For more coverage of graduate fashion week go to

Last Friday was possibly the most exciting day of the year for a
lot of Brits and people around the world, as we all turned totally
royalist to celebrate the magical union of Prince William to his
long term love, Catherine Middleton. I must admit, I wasn't so sure
what all the hype was about but as the day crept closer I realised
that thanks to these two folks I was going to be getting a double
Easter weekend off in succession! I also have a two-year-old
daughter who is obsessed with everything princess, so as soon as
she cottoned on to the fact that there was going to be a REAL
princess getting married - the household turned into a hysterical
frenzy of excitement.

In the week leading up to the ceremony I had dinner with the
gorgeous Bay Garnett and after dinner we drove along Pall Mall as
her partner Tom Craig was shooting a short film about it. It was
amazing to see the devoted fans these guys had! People were
sleeping on the streets just to catch a glimpse of them. On the
wedding day I was at home in the Cotswolds and we went to watch the
whole thing from early in the morning with our friends Dan and
Juliet Chadwick. We had the most delicious full English royal
brunch, fit for a king with delicious sausages and bacon supplied
by Diana Guinness which she home reared and butchered herself. They
were the best sausages I have ever eaten. That woman is a
genius.

And then, there was the dress... And I caught a peek of Sarah
Burton helping Kate in the car and jumped ten foot in the air with
excitement that, indeed, it was going to be a McQueen dress. The
relief I felt was enormous! I knew Sarah would not disappoint and I
have to admit, I shed a small tear because I know Lee would have
been so proud of her and all she has achieved for the brand after
his sad departure.

The star of the show was undoubtedly, Kate Middleton. I cannot
imagine the pressure she must have been under with two billion
people watching her every move and she didn't falter one bit. She
was so utterly poised and graceful and looked absolutely fit to be
a queen. I genuinely believe that these two people love each other
and I wish them all the love and luck in the world for a very happy
and long life together.

Above is a picture of the first wedding dress I designed last
September for my friend Jane Treay's wedding to her gorgeous
husband, Charles Montenaro at Claridge's.

My very old friend, Philippa Holland, has just launched her
amazing jewellery online with Net-A-Porter. Her work is heavily
nature-inspired, with most of it being cast from real-life animal
skulls and wings she finds on her daily ramblings through the
enchanted Savernake Forest.

For her Œnature's Tricks collection, inspired by Darwin's
specimens and intricate studies of nature, various insects and
animal skeletons were gathered by Philippa. These were then
electro-formed and cast in gold and silver to create an exact
replica, a process inspired by Renaissance ceramicists. Selected
pieces undergo further treatments of plating, oxidising and
enamelling. Black diamonds and black pearls are prominent
throughout the collection, highlighting particular features and
bringing the forms to life.

She says Œnature's Tricks represents the darker side of nature,
the predatory world of the insect and animal kingdom. Some of these
creatures are deadly, yet masked by their delicate, seductive
beauty. Other pieces from the collection are harmless, yet
collectively feared. Creatures from the natural world have been
used as adornment since the tribal world began and were believed to
carry unique powers. These specific qualities were believed to be
passed on to the wearer, offering protection on a spiritual level.
All of the jewellery is manufactured in England, using a number of
specialist craftsmen.

Visit www.philippaholland.co.uk or shop online at

For our autumn/winter 2011 collection we looked at an old Peter
Lindberg shoot in Italia Vogue where the girls had been
styled as boys in a Nineties rockabilly tribute. It was beautiful
and very inspiring. Whilst delving through the British
Vogue archive library, I stumbled across this shoot also
in Italia Vogue which was shot at my boarding school in
the Nineties. I remember the casting director wandering around the
school picking the strangest looking girls and all the pretty girls
complaining because they wanted to be in the photo shoot. We all
thought the hair, make-up and styling was really weird but
looking back on it now I see how directional and visionary they
were. These pictures totally led our delivery and mood - as we paid
tribute to the restrictedness of school uniform and the magic of
rebellious school girls, somehow managing to break the confines and
make it their own.

This one is going in a frame for the grand kids.

Last week, Sienna and I were invited to Downing Street as Anna
Wintour and Samantha Cameron were hosting an evening in honour of
British fashion. They invited lots of British designers and
international buyers to help shake British fashion's image of being
all about creativity and not all about business. Anna is really
championing British fashion at the moment it seems, and Downing
Street was heaving with all the greats. Phoebe Philo, Christopher
Kane, Charlotte Olympia, Erdem, Danielle Scutt, Christopher Bailey
and, my favourite, Manolo Blahnik - who remembered me and Sienna
visiting his shop as tiny people at sale time with our mum so she
could get her seasonal Manolo fix. Being sample size, she had a
ball.

The Camerons' kids were running around in their pyjamas looking
adorable and I compared notes with Sam Cam on being a working mum.
Very surreal but a totally amazing evening.

And then, on leaving, it was raining and I slipped and fell flat
on my face.

Sienna laughed harder than I have seen her laugh in a long time.
It was, without a doubt, my finest hour. Luckily the snappers
didn't see!

Till next time, have a great week

Xx

S

Me in the booth.

Last week was mental at t8tHQ. We had our line launch and all of
our sales agents came from all over the world to review the
fall/winter 2011 collection. They loved it which was fantastic
news! Then I had to go on Radio 2 to talk to Simon Mayo about small
business and what you can do to be innovative. Terrifying!!! But
actually it was a real buzz and I loved sitting in the little booth
with the headphones.

I have been supporting a great campaign over here called www.ministry-of-found.com
which is all about helping people to set up pop-up shops and online
enterprises. I love a pop-up shop. We are going to be popping up
here in Selfridges at the end of Feb so watch this space for more
info soon!

On Thursday we shot our fall/winter look book on beautiful
Sienna and amazing new face called Molly Smith, who I am obsessed
with.

Molly.

The day would not have been complete without our furry friends
Sienna's dog Porgy and Chris' dog Henry.

Sienna kissing Henry.

Hynam holding Porgy.

We had our old faithful team on the case - Angelo Penetta
photographing, Chris Simmonds art directing and Francesca Burns
styling and I was super happy with the results.

Angelo photographing Molly.

It's gonna be gorgeous!! Ill post a sneaky preview during
Fashion Week for you. When we were done we went to karaoke at Lucky
Voice in Soho with the delightful and HILARIOUS Matthew Williamson,
Sienna and Keira K for a very interesting night on the town.

We sang (screeched) a lot of Rihanna.

Those pictures need censoring I'm afraid but here's a funny one
of me and Matthew hitting up the dressing up box!

Me and Matthew.

Then it was home time and I arrived to find my little rugrats
self styled, they are best friends, double trouble and two of the
funniest people I know.

The kids playing dress up.

The cat had run away so we spent the entire weekend crawling
through the undergrowth to find her and she turned up MILES away,
eventually having jumped in someone's van. Hallelujah. Life returns
to normal. At least for a while...

See you next week!
