Spring is here, well it is at Rupert Sanderson's new shop in
Bruton Place, Mayfair. Every shoe designed is named after a
daffodil and are both sexy and enchanting. Covering one wall, a
giant 'Elba', Rupert's signature stiletto, is made entirely from
fresh daffodils and is dramatic. If the weather insists on being
gloomy, a pair of spring shoes is the answer!

A Magazine, curated by Stephen Jones, is beyond, it is
so beautiful! Not really a magazine, more an art book that you keep
and look at forever. Full of fascinating intimate conversations and
illustrations, it is dedicated to the memory of Anna Piaggi. A real
treat too!

Elegant cups of coffee served in the ballroom at the Dorchester
preceded Temperley's Show. A bit of Sunday chic, instead of the
usual chores was a nice change and the collection was fitting for
the location. Reminiscent of Fifties movie stars, the models -
incognito behind their dark glasses - wore swing coats, neat frocks
and elegant eveningwear, teamed with sexy seamed stockings and
stilettos.

The crush to get into the Tate Britain for Paul Smith's show was
insane, but no one seemed to mind being pushed and shoved, it's all
part of Fashion Week and the wait to be enthralled. Fab drain-pipe
trousers, gorgeous tailored jackets and coats, great boots and
suede flats made it all worth while. We had our fashion hit, then
out into the cold night and onto the next. Leaving home, first
thing Monday morning, I did feel slightly overdressed for the
district line, but as we trundled along, half the carriage became a
dressing room as girls put on their make up and changed into heels
before getting off.

Being a west Londoner, I get a bit phased travelling east, so on
arriving at Liverpool Street and a trifle lost, I followed the
photographers with their trollies assuming they were going to
Antonio Berardi's show. Thankfully they were and we all shot up by
lift to the eleventh floor, where a wide space was given over to
the catwalk, using the city's skyline as backdrop. As the show
started, guys in the towering office block opposite, rushed to the
window to watch model after model wearing killer pieces -
beautiful, sophisticated and undeniably sexy. An evening dress
embellished with large crystals and a sweeping court train was
stunning. City boys: take note!

Held in another towering block, the windows covered with
different-coloured plastic, Christopher Kane's collection
captivated the audience, with luscious outfits in velvet, organza
,a fab combat-print and sparkle dresses reminiscent of Christmas.
The applause was deafening and fashionistas rushed to congratulate
him.

Erdem's invitation was a photograph of his beautiful late mother
and she would have been so proud. Held at the White Cube in
Bermondsey, the collection was absolutely breathtaking - graceful
and poetic but also very seductive. Printed silk dresses with
inserts of black lace teamed with matching shoes by Nicholas
Kirkwood were magic.

So far so good and I managed to stay upright during Fashion
Week, wearing "sensible" biker boots and being guided by loyal
friends. Coping with the cobbles at Somerset house was no problem,
not lugging heels around was bliss and I even managing a couple of
hours dancing at Christopher's party. Flats might have to be the
way forward!

LFW is here and the fashion crowd are more full on than ever.
The courtyard at Somerset House is packed with fashionistas being
photographed and photographing each other, clutching cartons of
coffee or plastic flutes of Champagne, which proves they've been
back stage!

At Jasper Conran, the orange perspex invitation matched
the runway, setting off the bubblegum palette. A vivid pink silk
organza dress, a red paillette flower dress and gold frayed layer
dress were mouthwatering. Each outfit accessorised with matching
patent flat shoes and fab Twenties style hats by Stephen Jones.

The chic mulberry coloured sheepskin coat, thrown over the
sequin dress would make me very happy next winter!

Took off to Ibiza with some of my gang for Christmas. A
composer, an artist, and a fashion designer guarantees non-stop
entertainment! To celebrate "the end of the world", we went to
party in Santa Gertrudis but were nearly arrested for driving
across the main piazza, having missed the 'No Entry' sign. A priest
finally sorted things out and after a tour of the beautiful church,
we danced on the square before ending up in one of the noisy
bars.

Well, the world didn't end, so Christmas day we picnic'd on the
rock and spent the rest of the holiday riding through vineyards and
jogging along deserted beaches.

Ibiza is amazing at this time of year, empty, and the sun still
shines. One of the few restaurants open is Es Boldado at Cala
d'Hort with the best view of Vedra, the mystical rock bursting out
of the sea. Some sailors won't venture near fearing the curse that
Vedra bestows if she doesn't like you. Not my gang! After fish
ragout with king prawns and lobster they were swimming in the sea,
just as the sun came down.

Back in the real world, London Collections: Men, were three days
packed with exciting shows, presentations and parties. Richard
Nicoll's collection was inspired by post-punk and a mix of classic
essentials in denim blue, grey and bright orange. I loved the
matching coloured key chain.

The sweeping rubberised mac, the elaborate bomber jacket -
specially woven in chenille - and trousers cut like a track pant,
were winners at James Long's show. His signature knitwear taking
inspiration from marquetry techniques - classic pieces.

A fab movie and check out the costumes in Les Miserables. John
Galliano menswear meets Vivienne Westwood, the clothes are
fantastic!

Waddington Custot Galleries in Cork Street has a major
retrospective exhibition devoted to Peter Blake. The title Rock
Paper Scissors takes the idea from the children's game and
provides the framework for the sections: sculpture, paper and
collage. At the opening, devoted P.B fans ooh'ed and ah'ed at our
beloved's work.

Diana Hall and Julian Vogel gave a party to celebrate 25 years
of Modus. The London Museum is a brilliant space to party and
guests queued up to congratulate our hosts.

Prepping for Christmas, I hopped my way to Ibiza for the
weekend. Love flying from City Airport, although I quite miss the
hilarious entertainment from the hen parties on Ryanair. Slight
setback at the finca, due to adverse weather conditions - part of
the roof has caved in! I spent three days with buckets and mops,
keeping the stove going and trying to remember how baking hot it
was in August. Christmas could be a bit of an adventure,
fortunately the guests coming are pretty fit, and finally I've
dumped the crutches for an old fashioned mop!

Following the spectacular entrance of the Queen and 007 into the
Olympic Stadium, Skyfall - the latest Bond movie -
is almost as thrilling! Great performances, especially
from Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Judi Dench, and Javier
Bardem plays a superb camp villain. After the screening the
director Sam Mendes gave a Q&A, which was fascinating. On
the way home I passed Harrods - the best windows ever - the whole
building is covered with lights and is magical.

What a privilege to be invited to talk in the beautiful lecture
hall at the V & A. Obviously I wasn't going to make it simple,
and decided to transform the space into a decadent backstage
dressing room. I arrived with my props, which consisted of a
screen, a small sofa and a large theatrical skip containing
treasured costumes from the 1920's. No mean feat getting it all
into the building and quite hilarious getting it out, giving the
security guards a bit of a fright.

Still in the inevitable "moon boot" and on crutches may not be
the trendiest of looks for Kate Moss' party at 50 St James's.
However I did manage to negotiate the stairs to the disco, where
quickly my crutches became the hot dance accessory!

Hollywood Costume, featuring 130 costumes from the
greatest films of all time, is a must-see exhibition at the
V&A. Some Like it Hot, Saturday Night Fever,
Titantic, Star Wars, Gone with the Wind
and of course The Wizard of Oz are all featured. The stars
of the show are the designers, and this is a chance for their work
to be properly acknowledged.

I'm very excited to see that the book Daisy and I have
co-written, is out on display in the V&A shop. Whilst on the
subject, I'm giving a "talk" Friday, November 9th, in the Lecture
Hall, followed by a book signing!! It's a beautiful space and I
feel very honoured.

Dressed To Kill: Virginia's Jazz Age Fashion is
available at the V&A, all good bookshops and www.amazon.com.

After two weeks of keeping my busted foot elevated, it was such
a treat to hop off to Le Caprice. Alexandra Shulman hosted the
launch of Vogue On Designers, four books: McQueen by Chloe Fox,
Dior by Charlotte Sinclair, Coco by Bronwyn Cosgrave and
Schiaparelli by my mate Judith Watt. Antony Price paid homage to
Elsa creating a stunning suit which Judith wore and looked
sensational in.

At The Arts Club, Bronwyn Cosgrave chaired a lively discussion
on vintage fashion with Cameron Silver, Kerry Taylor and yours
truly. I managed to stay on the high-bar stool throughout the
evening, but failed on hopping up the stairs resorting to sliding
on my bum!

Vidal Sassoon was the hairdresser who made straight hair chic
and for me, meant that I could finally throw out the rollers and
let my hair swing! A service to celebrate his life was held at St
Paul's Cathedral. Tributes were given by Zaha Hadid, Jeremy Irons,
Lord Puttnam and Vidal's son Elan. We smiled and we wept as we
remembered a phenomenal man.

Still loved up after the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics, the
feel-good factor lived on all through L.F.W.

Maria Grachvogel - elegant as ever - featured hand-painted
prints, sensual evening dresses and jumpsuits. At Jasper Conran's
show, the models must have been relieved to walk bare foot on the
faux-grass runway. The theme - very nostalgic. Woodstock, Carole
King, Mapplethorpe, psychedelic colours, fun and as always
chic.

Baileys cocktails and popcorn kick-started the Felder Felder
show. A collection that was undeniably sexy and glamorous.

Sister by Sibling hosted a tea party at the W Hotel, serving my
favourite cucumber sandwiches and purple Battenberg cake. Guests
nipped into a screening room to see a film based on the new
collection.

I love John Rocha and his show was divine, romantic and wicked.
A structured silhouette with layers of silk-organza, chiffon with
brocade, and cobwebs of lace. Bliss!

James Long presented his fourth womenswear collection at the St
Martin's Lane Hotel. A Polly-Graphic Romance and that it was! Mixed
leather and cotton, textured monochrome and embroidered ribbons.
Great to see the collection close up, the detail is exquisite.

At Temperley, I just wanted to pack my bags and go on holiday!
Think 1950's French Riviera, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn , crisp
cotton classics and effortlessly beautiful.

For Matthew Williamson, this season marked his 15th anniversary.
The catwalk was festooned with Indian banners, and his collection
of colourful gowns - rich and bohemian - was magical.

Paul Smith had his show at Central Saint Martin's, the perfect
setting for his collection. On a runway of white velvet the models
wore brilliant silk-chiffon kaftan styled dresses, (a must for
Ibiza) great patchworks and fab stirrup trousers. Outside in the
courtyard the fountains were still clapping as everyone left.

A Soho carpark was the setting for an insanely chic collection
from Antonio Berardi. Jackets with flashes of rich embellishment,
panniers over skirts, and accessorised with matching fluorescent
clutch bags. Just all so beautiful!

Christopher Kane's show was also so beautiful. Each season
there's always something a bit quirky - this time it's Perspex nuts
and bolts, which all made sense when a Boris Karloff T-shirt dress
came on. I loved it, especially as a million years ago I did a film
with him.

At about this point my day started to go tragically wrong. When
leaving backstage I missed a step and went flying to the ground
twisting my ankle. Determined not to miss Erdem's show, Tim Blanks
(an absolute gent) got me to Manchester Square (the perfect setting
for Erdem). We sat under a translucent tent with the autumn leaves
falling almost in time to the music. The collection resembled a
Monet painting, quite breath taking.

By the end of the day my foot was looking pretty grim and for
ShowStudio I had it wrapped in bags of ice disguised by my hat.
However on the advice of fellow panellist Hilary Alexander, the
angel of the night Camilla Morton whisked me off to casualty where
we spent a grim four hours, and I left at one thirty in the morning
on crutches with my leg in plaster!

So with 1/3 broken bones in my foot, I guess that's Fashion Week
over! Twelve weeks in a caste will be an interesting
challenge - Rio? There's a thought!!

With 19 countries taking part, Vogue's Fashion's Night Out was a
huge success, this year supporting the charity Refuge. A beautiful
warm evening and London rocked!

Bond Street - closed to traffic - was rammed. Stores held their
own events with special offers and treats. Hermes had a mock-up
dance floor with dancers in Fifties dress, rocking and rolling on
the street.

Clutching Champagne flutes, cocktail glasses and the inevitable
shopping bag, everyone got into the spirit of the evening.

My VFNO ground to a halt when a tub of Missoni ice cream managed
to roll down my front landing on my foot! However, the culprit
dragged me to Belmacz where I was consoled with La Grotta Ice
embellished with 24 carat gold. Tres chic!!

either hammering the bar over at Julie's with excitement, or
beating the hell out of my sofa at home.

I cried when I saw the post box at Chiswick town hall, freshly
painted gold after Pete Reed won a medal for rowing with the Men's
fours.

On my way for lunch at the Delaunay on Sunday, I emerged from
Temple underground to a rapturous applause just as the Marathon
runners were making their way along the Embankment. I managed to
squeeze my way through the crowd just as Scott Overall passed - the
noise was deafening, and the tears flowed again!

Annoushka

Annoushka has opened a new jewellery store on South Molton
Street and to celebrate hosted a lunch at Claridge's. The store is
an Aladdin's cave of mouth-watering jewels and, in case anyone
wants to buy me a present, I'd be happy with the Fantasy Laguna
ring please.

Denise Lewis at Annoushka's

Had to make a quick exit from Claridge's missing the strawberry
cheesecake, as I wanted to catch Lakshmi Mittal carrying the torch
along Holland Park Avenue.

Lakshmi Mittal

In the evening, Warner Music held an amazing party to celebrate
the opening of the Olympics, at the new Tanks art space at
the Tate Modern. Katherine Jenkins and Prince Albert of Monaco
stayed in the VIP area, whilst the rest of us danced our socks off
to Paolo Nutini and Mark Ronson.

Lyall Hackariah and James Long at Warner

Roksanda Ilincic

The lighting was amazing, giving the space a "Close Encounters"

Valeria Napoleone hosted a magnificent dinner for Osman's
autumn/winter 2012-13 edition of The Collective. Guests made a dash
through the rain on arrival and were received by butlers wearing
white gloves who mopped us down - I could get used to this! The
magazine features Osman's collection and great photographs by Alex
Franco.

The following morning in my horror guise, I went to Leicester
for Hammer Has Risen From The Grave.

A tribute screening of Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde gave me a
chance to raise some money for The Ralph Bates Pancreatic Cancer
Research Fund. Thank you all for your generous donations.

Peter Blake - the king of pop art - celebrated his 80th birthday
by throwing the most sensational party at the Royal Albert
Hall.

Peter, Chrissy and Rose Blake outside the Swarovski
phone box Peter designed for Children in Need

With Peter Blake and James Long

With Dr John, James Long and Daisy Bates

Guests were greeted by the sound of an organ grinder playing,
and the touring art bus. The Albert Hall was decorated with his
iconic art, and cocktails, food and candy floss served in a very
Peter Blake style.

Ronnie Wood and Daisy Bates

With Mary McCartney

Meanwhile - straight from the rooftop of the palace - Madness
rocked the hall, and we danced the night away.

For a perfect day, what could be more fun than Ladies Day at
Royal Ascot? A fashion show featuring the master of hats Stephen
Jones was followed by a luncheon, and after watching the Royal
procession arrive, the serious business of placing bets.

With Christina Blahnik and Julia Muggenburg

Christina Blahnik, Stephen Jones and Julia
Muggenburg

The Summer Party at the Serpentine Gallery is another highlight
of the season. Guests admired the pavilion - this year designed by
architects Herzog & de Meuron and conceptual artist Ai Weiwei -
and then wondered into the gallery to view Yoko Ono's exhibition
To The Light.

With James Long at The Serpentine

Sara and Erdem Moralioglu at The Serpentine

At dusk DJ Mary Chateris played, and when the rain started we
danced under chic umbrellas provided by our hosts. At three am I
left the after party at the Groucho and returned to the park to
pick up my car, only to discover that the beetle was locked in. At
six am I fell out of bed, threw on a kimono and cabbed it back to
the park, where fortunately my car was waiting with a few other
revellers' abandoned vehicles.

Peter Blake at The Groucho

The English National Ballet gave their summer party at the
Orangery in Kensington Palace. I avoided taking my car back -
obviously. Guests watched extracts from Swan Lake in this
beautiful setting, and were given the chance to bid on a piece of
swan art donated by designers - the most beautiful created by
Beatrix Ong.

Beatrix Ong

The Clarendon Cross Diamond Jubilee street party was a huge
success. Cath Kidston generously donated trestle tables and benches
and Penguin Café played outside the shop, which was transformed
into a village church hall - tea urn and all. Jubilee revellers
precariously danced on the tables until midnight and wanted the
party to go on forever.

The following day I was slightly overwhelmed by the chaos in the
shop and lived with the remnants of margarita and cake for a couple
of days, but when I found a plate of jelly hanging off the ironing
board, it was time to roll up my sleeves and muck out!

To be quite honest I haven't been to House of Fraser in a few
years and had no idea how cool it is - even the lift is sexy. Mary
Portas hosted the launch of Ari Seth Cohen's book Advanced
Style in her shop. The book is beautifully crafted, featuring
amazing women.

Mary Portas and Ari Seth Cohen

Virginia Bates, Ari Seth Cohen, Zandra Rhodes, Jibby Beane
and Duggie Fields

I've seen all James Long's shows and this seasons menswear, was
his best to date. Elegant with his signature twists, the
cutting-edge pleated shorts and chic hand knits are to die for.
What a triumph for men's fashion Week and what a success it's
been.

Rose Blake and James Long

Whilst changing my shoes in the Beetle around the corner from the
preview party, I was besieged by demonstrators waving anti-Jubilee
placards. Not brilliant timing in my case as I had spent the day
doing my Jubilee window and putting up bunting.

The exhibition has been inspired by gold, with the Olympics and
the Queen's Jubilee placing London in the spotlight. As usual
sumptuous food and cocktails. The exhibition is exciting and good
to see red stickers going up so fast. My favourite was the Peg
painting by Annie Morris.

textiles and games all defining their Britishness. From the
Festival of Britain, Swinging London in the Sixties to the present
day. Olive Sullivan's cabbage roses fabric and wallpaper took me
back to my Mother's house which was covered in it. There's Allen
Jones infamous chair, and for fashion, Ossie, Mary Quant, Tuffin
and Foale and the outrageous Terry de Havilland shoes. Alexander
McQueen and John Galliano's deconstructed corsets from the Beggar's
Rags show, are on display. It's a very evocative exhibition and
well worth the visit.

Congratulations to Anya Hindmarch who won the Verve Cliquot

There was a magical moment during James Long's menswear show,

Antonio Berardi

Great idea Richard Nicholl having his show constantly running
between 1pm and 3pm, no pressure. Models toured the space at the
ICA showing his brilliant collection featuring fab burnt orange and
white outfits, with some pieces hung on display for a closer look.
Loved the white bag that recharges your phone as you go, essential
during Fashion Week.

breathtaking outfit after another, his evening dresses are so red
carpet.

is just the best vibe.

James Long and Will Bates

Lime and fuchsia on black hand loomed brocades and luxurious
leather lined evening dresses accessorised with matching boots made
Osman's collection a very sophisticated and glamorous event.

After a well earned cocktail in the Fumoir Bar at Claridge's
(nearly ruined by six businessmen totally out of context with their
laptops), it was time to join the fashion crowd letting off steam
at Le Baron. If you can get through the crowd, there's some
interesting art on display and Mickey Mouse was certainly having a
good time!

When I got home I realised I was a goody bag down. I'd stuffed a

The Elisa Palomino show

Maybe wearing a lamé coat with plimsols is slightly weird
to the uninitiated, but on my way to my first show of London
Fashion Week, I was approached by six Jehovah's Witnesses overly
keen to save my soul. I persuaded them that I was probably a bit of
a lost cause and we all went our merry way.

Bliss to be at Elisa Palomino's show where we were instantly
transported into the inspirational Florrie Skettheimer's book of
poems, Crystal Flowers. The collection pays homage to
the three sisters' fashionable lifestyle, eccentric and individual.
Exotic flowers, elaborate embroideries, vibrant colours and chic
black, so stylish and if anyone is going to save me, it's
Elisa!

Elisa Palomino

SEE THE ELISA PALOMINO SHOW

Running through Covent Garden to Somerset House, just made it to
Jasper's show - hence the plimsols - but into heels after
negotiating the wet cobbles in the courtyard. Well worth it, the
superb tailoring, pleating, the cocktail dresses, coats and a black
organza pom-pom dress is not to be missed.

creation I may have to kill for!

Stephen Webster & I

Aptly timed as this week marks the beginning of the Diamond
Jubilee, a rare collection of photographs by Cecil Beaton are on
display at the Victorian & Albert museum.

Manolo Blahnik

The photographs are enchanting and very moving. I particularly
liked the set of contacts shot against a backdrop painted in
Fragonard style.

Exhibition Road is paved over and a free-for-all, where
pedestrians and traffic dance with death - so be warned!

READ MORE ABOUT THE JUBILEE HERE

Erdem & Sara Moralioglu with Craig West

Conveniently situated opposite the Claridge's bar, Julia Belmacz
Gallery in Davies Street is an interesting mix of art and her
jewellery. Guests at the inauguration drank champagne and ate Choc
Ices whilst taking in all the fascinating pieces on view.

Julie Belmacz

Bronwyn Cosgrave hosted an intimate evening at the Arts Club
with "a conversation" between Erdem, Gianluca Longo, Stephen Jones
and Thomas Tait. The audience sat on low velvet chairs in an
exquisite salon and sipped cocktails. To be entertained by such
iconic masters of fashion was a privilege and made for a memorable
evening.

Me with Plum Sykes

After a rural weekend in Ibiza, I had an hour delay in Madrid
airport due to a technical failure on the aircraft. We finally
boarded and annoyingly I was in the exit row. Rather unnervingly
the stewardess singled me out to tell me that in case of an
emergency landing, I was in charge of opening the door. Even more
alarmingly, if there were people outside, I was to keep it shut! In
fairness to my fellow passengers, I thought it best to let them
know that I'd be fine dealing with the people, but hopeless with
anything mechanical.

Sydney Ingle-Finch

So, in need of a glamour hit and where better than at Dior.
Sydney Ingle-Finch hosted a tea party to launch the artist Anselm
Reyle's collection of bags for Dior. Lucky charms were hidden in
pastries, I guzzled 3, not a charm in sight, unless I swallowed it,
but I did witness a fortunate fashionista win a crown. I'm thinking
of consoling myself with the fabulous travel bag.

Angela Dunn and Laura Ingham

Me with Anastasia Webster at the Krug Party

Krug's exhibition to raise funds for the Royal Academy Schools,
consisted of artworks donated by celebrities, the theme being
Happiness. Curated and hosted by Lady Amanda Harlech & Edith
Devaney, guests sipped Krug Champagne, getting happier by the
glass!

In search of the sun, I flew to Florida for Christmas with a
quick stop over in New York. The shops, windows, decorations and
Christmas spirit doesn't get better than the Big Apple. The
following afternoon lying on a white sandy beach, sipping
margaritas and watching dolphins play was pretty perfect.

Palm trees wrapped in fairy lights lined the roads, replacing
Christmas trees and I love the look. A drive through the Panther
Nature Preserve followed by a 2 mile walk through Corkscrew
Sanctuary and watching alligators was quite scary. A seat dedicated
to Rose Sandwich I found a bit alarming!

Corkscrew Sanctuary

Another night in New York and a chance to wander round
Williamsburg. The opening of Brian Balderston Gallery Preset Co in
a converted warehouse showed video installations and attracted a
great crowd. Now back in the real world, recharged and ready for
2012. Happy New Year.

Virginia's Christmas windows

The Garden Room at Julie's was the perfect venue for Cyd Hutton
and Debs Tong to have a special pop-up boutique for Joy Jewellery.
The pieces are beautiful, seductive and stylish - just like
Julie's!

Tom Harper, Julie Mills and Johnny Ekperigin

Still in Clarendon Cross, our fabulous Mayor of Kensington and
Chelsea Julie Mills opened the Late Night Christmas Fair on the
square. Lots of shmoozing, mulled wine and shopping.

Christmas Fair

Off to Ibiza at the crack of dawn. I gather there's no
electricity at the Finca and the stable door won't open, due to
torrential rain there. Hoping the Bates boot will sort it,
otherwise I shall be joining my Mother in her Residential Care Home
- she calls it Claridge's.
