This year marks the Fiftieth birthday of my beloved Sindy
doll, and I for one am campaigning for her revival and return.
Growing up, I was one of Sindy's biggest fans and I was always
loyal to her British roots and "girl next door" looks, never
swaying over to Barbie's Americanised features.

If you know me, you'll know I love to collect things and I
recently pulled out my collection of Sindy dolls. I still remember
the excitement of opening the gold lock on my post-box red mini
suitcase and getting Sindy out for an afternoon of dressing up.

I had forgotten how many outfits I'd collected! But they were
all in there, Work-Out Sindy, Wedding Sindy, Ballet Sindy, Holiday
Sindy - I still can't choose my favourites, but if push came to
shove it'd have to be either Disco Sindy, with her sparkly LBD, or
Daytime Sindy, on her day out and about in her favourite capital
city, with her red and blue striped knitted jumper, mini
across-body red messenger bag, red cowboy boots, big scrunchy in
her blonde hair and retro camera hanging around her neck. She was
always so flippin cool

We recently displayed our AW13 collection at the Zaha Hadid
Gallery Space opened by Architect herself!!!

For this special occasion we asked our super-talented
illustrator and friend Hattie Stewart to decorate our Hillier
display cases in her signature style - here is a very sneaky
peak at our AW13 collection.

Here's Hattie's website to view more of her wonderful

As you know, I love bags, and this season at MBMJ we were very
excited by the new bags!! Adorable shiny boxes in three different
sizes, that needed a lot of polishing - we wore white gloves
impregnated with mink oil... And I became obsessed with Esther's
outfit.

You heard it here first, next season, it's all about the bag
that matches your overcoat!!! We were also loving the oversized
giant shades perfect for hiding those tired winter eyes and our
gorgeous new MBMJ square super slim watch called the Truman in
shiny patents to match your shiny little box bag!!

It's freezing cold outside and we can barely remember what it's
like to feel sun on our faces or see a bright blue sky.

January for some can be quite a dull month, post party season,
wages spent on sale items that we will probably never wear and
countless nights that are a bit foggy to remember. So, feeling
down? Get yourself down to Marc by Marc Jacobs and get yourself a
dinky watch or two, we did!

Hillier HQ is fully kitted out with Henry Dinky watches in a
rainbow of colours that will cheer any dull January day up!!

J'adore Mr Marc Jacobs!!

To kick start 2013 I was casually looking for exciting places to
visit and very randomly stumbled across Lake Hillier.

The name initially caught my eye, but as I clicked on the link
to read further I couldn't help but let out a little squeal of
excitement….ITS PINK!

Yes, Lake Hillier - set in Western Australia as I went onto read
- is in fact a natural phenomenom as the water that fills it is
pink, even if you scoop out a glass full it still remains a
beautiful dusty glowing shade of pink.

Scientists aren't 100 per cent clear on what causes the rose
glow, they think it's to do with the growth of an algae and a
bacteria which is prevalent in the water.

All the same this is going straight to the top of my list of
places to visit this year!

This is the time of year we should see red squirrels hopping
around, running up trees and burying nutty treats to nibble on
during the coldest parts of winter. As I mentioned in my last post,
this is unlikely, mainly because there are not many of them and
more worryingly their numbers are dwindling at an alarming
rate.

This week the Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) are taking part
in the Big Give Christmas Challenge and are making a pledge to
raise £10,000 to help continue their work of protecting and
conserving the red squirrel. If you donate at 10am on either
Thursday 6, Friday 7, or Saturday 8 of December, the Big Give will
match what you donate making the £10,000 an achievable goal. But
this will only happen with your help so please do click the link
below and donate whatever you can - remember it will be doubled if
you donate at the specific times mentioned above.

Donate Here

Please read more on RSST here www.rsst.org.uk

As you may or may not know, recently I have become an ambassador
to the Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST). Their patron is actually
HRH Prince Charles who also is an avid campaigner for the
protection of red squirrels, and so I am truly honoured. But more
importantly I am committed to raising awareness of the plight of
this marvellous and rare little creature. The cold hard facts say
their numbers are depleting at an alarming rate and I was told that
within one decade they could be extinct. After hearing this I knew
I wanted to help in any way I could.

Earlier this year I was invited to visit a very secret spot in
Cumbria with the RSST's Janet Wicken. Here I was able to witness a
special and very rare moment that took months of preparation. Sarah
McNeil, who is an amazing wildlife photographer, her partner Jerry
Moss, Cumbria's first Red Squirrel Ranger, and members of the
Penrith Red Squirrel Group were our hosts for the day. After an
early start we made our way through the woods to our viewing spot.
A magical nook, in a very secret location. As these little
creatures are wild, you cannot just expect them to appear - we had
to wait, and wait but we were prepared with midgy nets and full
camo gear. And finally they arrived, and one after the other the
place came alive with red squirrels. It was amazing and something I
may never see again so I am incredibly lucky to have witnessed it
at all.

For a few hours we watched as the squirrels fed and chased each
other around the trees. After a while, they disappeared into the
woods and that was our day done, but only after we had done some
very important work. We attached nesting boxes ready for the
breeding season, we put up signs telling the general public what to
do if they see grey squirrels, and we put up a flip feeder which
will help when the squirrels cannot find enough food in their
natural habitat.

We had an unforgettable day - you can see from our pictures we
were privileged to encounter these charming and shy creatures in
their own natural environment and at such close proximity. Soon
however, this may not be possible. If you feel strongly about
helping the 'reds' then please click below to find out what you can
do to help. We all have a chance to save them, let's do it now
before it's too late.

www.rsst.org.uk

Photography by Sarah McNeil

<a href="/blogs/katie-hillier/2012/11/red-squirrels-must-survive" title="As you may or may not know, recently I have become an ambassador to the Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST).

For the second year running I have been asked to cast our
creative eye over the iconic Pudsey Bear and contribute a design to
the BBC Children in Need Designer Pudsey Collection - alongside a
remarkable list of other creative brands. The Hillier Pudsey Bear
has had his final touches and starting tomorrow, running through to
November 14, he will be proudly exhibited in the London and
Manchester Selfridges stores, before being auctioned at the
prestigious Christies Auction House to raise funds for BBC Children
in Need.

This year, I started with a clean fresh canvas of luxurious soft
white nappa leather - white being something I'm fond of and that
dominates my studio space. On top of this I asked our incredibly
talented friend Salma Kadir, a textiles and print designer to
embellish Pudsey's body and generously cover it with blown-up polka
dots, huge drops of acid green, fuscia pink, crayon blue and lego
yellow. Special attention was paid to each polka dot, which we
trimmed with pink and yellow fluro silk cording to create giant
blanket stitches. I also added some juicy ceramic gems for a last
touch of colour!!!

Our unique dotty and slightly bonkers Pudsey Bear is being
auctioned on November 15 along with all the other designer Pudseys,
with all the proceeds going directly to Children in Need who
continually support the most vulnerable children. We're thrilled to
have been involved for yet another year and hope you bid on all the
designer Pudsey's showing your support for children all over the
UK.

www.designerpudsey.co.uk

Of all the Disney characters, Minnie Mouse was and has always
been my favourite mouse ever!!! Her super cute, almost shy
personality and cheeky sense of style made up of the polka dot -
which I'm obsessed with - bows in her hair, and of course those
bonkers yellow shoes, she's just too cool in my book and a total
style icon!

It's no surprise that I jumped at the opportunity to create a
one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery for Disney in partnership with the
BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation who are dedicated to nurturing
relationships between the creative industries and maintaining the
reputation of fashion innovation.

A Minnie Mouse paperclip made the most sense to me, my signature
paperclip necklace transformed into the iconic head shape of Minnie
Mouse, with big playful ears and a pretty little bow perched on
top. To be honest as a young girl I dreamed of Minnie in gold and
diamonds, and here I am years later actually having the chance to
do it! Amazing.

At the launch of the initiative I actually got to meet Minnie
herself, it was pretty cool I have to say, I think Brix and I were
pretty star struck!! I now have a new girl crush on Minnie
Mouse!

Palladium, were so kind to support us again this season at the
second Rock Vault event, and it's been so much Fun!!!

We also got to use the amazing material palladium to make a
one-off special bunny ring, it's very special as it's the only one
that exists and we used a very special glow-in-the-dark ceramic
enamel...

For spring/ summer 13 we are mostly let's say...INTO RAVE!
COLOUR! And all things jolly. You can see more of the Hillier

Today was a big day in NYC , Victoria kicked off the day with
another AMAZING show, the weather was scorching, and I was feeling
like I needed a bit of excitement.

I heard a commotion outside the studio and there it was, a ROAD

It's started!!!! And it's exciting! To keep ourselves in high
spirits we have been mostly juicing, and eating KALE!! All my
friends in NYC are obsessed with kale. They eat it raw, steamed,
dressed, they eat kale chips, some people even make their own kale
chips.

On my first day in NYC nine days ago, Katie Grand told me I have
to get a Volcano. It's not a crazy cocktail of the night-time kind,
but more a crazy daytime pick you up!!

So, off I went to Juice Press, and now the entire office is
hooked on VOLCANO. I've had two Volcanos a day, chia puddings and
Kale salads, and I have to say, I feel good. I have even gone as
far as making a very good suggestion to Freddy at Juice Press about
where he should open up his London branch of Juice press -
Shoreditch obvz!!

Whenever you are in NYC, go pay a visit to Juice Press on Mott
Street, between Houston and Prince - IT'S AMAZING.

I do love a personalised gift... this year for my birthday I
received a very cool little sketch of a sweater with the letter K
on it from Patrick my boyfriend. A little note accompanying it
said, "Coming Soon!" This week I got my hands on my very own E
TAUTZ letter sweater... just for little old me! OBSESSED. There
must be something in the air - at Hillier HQ we have been enjoying
the marvels of a paperclip letter which we are looking forward to
showing you all in September.

Bespoke letter sweater available from E TAUTZ.

xx

teen years of never getting out of the things, I'm now obsessed
with designing my own - why wouldn't you? Fortunately the good
folks at Nike have made it really easy. This weekend whilst on a
short trip to Dallas, Texas, I declined the offer of a rodeo in

pre-collections - Paris, Venice - and finally stopped off to see
the gang at Loewe....in Madrid.

Obviously I popped into the store to have a little look and I
found this little beauty. It's my new Flamenco bag. I love it -
buttery soft with some tassels and a two length strap... it's just
perfect.

I love Loewe x

As you might know, this weekend was the BBC Radio 1 Hackney
Weekend, and what an amazing time we had!! Apart from the most
insane line up I've seen at a two-day festival, staging this kind
of event meant a lot to east London.

As we know it's an exciting place to be right now... bring on

A few weeks ago I took a very long-awaited holiday...

The plan was hatched by my good pals who know where to go a few
months back, and ever since we've been counting the days. It got us
through fashion month, we all said. That lingering bright light at
the end of a blurry fashion tunnel!

Paris Fashion Week ended for me with a quick dash off after the
Loewe show to the Eurostar and back home to pack, I needed a few
days to find said holiday clothing - it's been that long. Blimey,
trying on the bikini in pasty white skin, not so attractive, so I
tried with sunglasses on to ease the glare - really, this is
true!

Finally the day arrived, off to the airport with a quick stop
off in NYC for a meeting, I was then on my way to Mexico. Not to
the side that has become popular with my other fashion chums but to
the Pacific side. I had a short stop in Atlanta then onto Puerto
Vallarta with an entire plane of Spring Break 21 year olds, looking
hot and full of the joys of life. A three-and-a-half-hour drive
later along the Pacific coast, I arrived in Mexican paradise.
Cuixmala is where we stayed for the next 10 days. We saw
crocodiles, zebras, baby turtles and an osolot. Pretty good going
for a nature lover. Cuixmala is one of those fairytale places that
you dream of as a young adult, one day I will take a holiday like
that, you say. And then, as if by magic, you are there.

We watched sunsets from rooftops over the Pacific, had dinner on
a moon-lit beach in front of a, what I can only refer to as, Wicker
Man-type fire. Shoes were very important for dinner to make sure
you weren't nipped by the scorpions. We took a sail boat out on the
Pacific and saw manta rays, and giant turtles. I wasn't that good
on the boat, a little queasy for the first half, and too chicken to
get in the sea, probably didn't help that the captain declined the
offer of a quick splash around.

All wildlife seemed to have a larger-than-life appearance. One
day, what I thought was some sort of exotic giant beetle came to
see us at the pool, we all really liked him and let him walk over
our hands, only to find out in fact he was a giant cockroach, wont
be doing that at home.

Forgetting about work whilst away on holiday is not easy, but we
actually did pretty well by all accounts, apart from one day when
we decided to do a few shoots, we had some product of course, and
we had the very snazzy amazingly stylish Katie Grand, super
photographer Liz Collins and agent provocateur Camilla Lowther. I
was the prop assistant. As you can see the bunnies had some
fun!

When it was time to leave, us girls were very sad. We've made a
vow to return all together as many times as possible. I can't wait
for October to come around! Thanks to Alix and Goffredo for making
us so relaxed and remembering how good life can be after a few days
off in paradise.

X

Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International
Women's Day (IWD).

IWD provides a common day for globally recognising and
applauding women's achievements as well as for observing and
highlighting gender inequalities and issues.

But not just on IWD, all year round, many organisations and
individuals work tirelessly to support gender equality through a
multitude of initiatives.

Oxfam have done a brilliant job of raising awareness and really
encourage women to get together on this day to celebrate and raise
money to enable women around the world to build a better future for
themselves and their families.

My friend Roxy Walton did exactly that! And to mark this very
important day she organised a fund-raising event. Rallying together
lots of women under one roof for a brilliantly fun evening to
celebrate everything that is great about women.

We all gathered in her beautifully dressed home, decorated with
Spring flowers, fairy lights and her fantastic shimmering IWD
banner. There was a feast of international delights including some
wonderful British classics, the cucumber sandwiches went down very
well, each of them lovingly decorated with cocktail stick flags
from across the globe. Fun!

The main event of the evening was Roxy's IWD charity raffle. We
all donated (our hard earned) cash in exchange for a strip of pink
raffle tickets. Everyone was giddy with excitement by this stage as
many of the prizes were donated by our good friends at Marc by Marc
Jacobs, and of course there were some wonderful Hillier Bunny
goodies in there too!

There were sqeals of excitement and applause as girls won
prizes, it was verging on hysteria!

The evening was rounded off perfectly with a girly disco in the
basement tiki bar (leopard-print bar included, obvs). The speakers
were cranked up while Mariah and Whitney bellowed out - what a
perfect end to a really wonderful celebration.

Fun was had and funds were raised. A brilliant job done by
all.

Go girls!!

xxx

The winner

And so to the judging of the BUNNY DOODLE COMPETITION! Last
Friday afternoon we all stopped work in the studio to judge the
competition. It was not an easy task, so many amazing heartfelt and
creative doodles. Hillier HQ all joined in and we narrowed down the
many entries to our team favourites, although we have to say we
loved them all, but it was a competition and we have to follow the
rules. After almost 2 hours of deliberating, we found our winner
and 2 runners up!

January is a strange month, the excitement of the coming
season's Fashion Weeks should be making us feel jolly and alive,
instead the gloomy weather and dark nights are keeping us in a
state or constant tiredness here at Hillier HQ. In an effort to
bring some fun and light, I thought I would share an oldy but goody
picture of young Hillier with her favourite ducky necklace. This
was the inspiration for our new Hillier paperclip friend, Ducky.
Oh, and the print on my very snazzy sun lounger might inspire some
for a jolly print this spring!

Don't let the weather bring you down, think of all the nice
things that spring will bring! It's just around the corner xxx

with male-ness! Luckily for us, we happened to be tagging
along.

We were also in Paris selling our Hillier jewellery and trinkets
to adorn your hair. We popped along to our lovely showroom, Touba,
to see the gang and found some marvellous stuff which we will

Happy New Year gang!

After a lovely Christmas break the thought of going back to work
sometimes fills one with dread! I, on the other hand, had such a
wonderful break - lots of tv, chocolate and slee - that when
tuesday morning came around I was super-excited to get back to the
office, see the girls and catch up with what's going on! It's going
to be a very exciting year here at Hillier and the shows are just
around the corner so we haven't got much time to thin about the
dreary weather outside. We've been listening to Club
Tropicana to shake away the gloom. Something that really
brightened up our day was a visit from the one and only Mr Will
Broome, the man of the doodle! Apart from Will's ravishing good
looks and utter charm, he's also a very snappy dresser, he had the
most amazing bobble hat I have ever seen. As you know we love a bit
of knit at Hillier but this is up there in our top 5! The creator
of this hat was the lovely Carolyn Pearce. Long live the bobble
hat!
