On my last post about the Galaxy S3 I had discussed the setup I was using, software wise, on my new phone. I haven’t posted much since then, as I am using the same setup. The CarbonROM has really matured and I am completely problem free on it. I’ve been looking at various hardware upgrades lately and found the first product I’mn really digging – wireless charging!

Wireless charging never really got off the ground, I don’t think, with the launch of the phone. But the phone is ready for it, we just need a kit of some sort. I found one that works great, and that I am really happy with. A company I have never heard of, Vive Alive, is offering this kit here. I got mine for $44.99. That is the current price over there, but it looks like it  might jump up to $78 at some point.

The kit consists of the receiver, basically an adhesive coil that attaches to your battery with contacts that are designed to fit onto the port on your phone near the battery. Installation really just takes seconds. After I installed the coil, the back cover was slightly more difficult to get back on and I could feel a slight bulge in the cover. This is all very minor and it presented no real issues or bother to me. Also, after installing the coil and putting the cover back on, I had no problems putting my Otterbox back on.

With the coil in place, the second piece is the charging mat. Nothing to talk about here, plug it in and it works! Now I just drop my phone on the mat and it charges, end of story! The wireless charging setup doesn’t appear to be real picky – the phone could be crooked or off centre on the mat and it still charged just fine.

I looked aroun on Amazon and you can piece together your own kit. You can find the receiver here ($16) and a mat here ($35 and up). There are various mats you can buy - the important thing to remember is that the mat must be Qi technology compatible with the receiver I use.

I really like the wireless charging setup. I use my phone as my alarm clock, so I can just toss the phone on the mat when I go to bed and it is charged in the morning. No fuss, no cords.

It’s coming up on that time of the year again. Memorial Day weekend… DEMF, Movement. Whatever you call it, it’s days of the best electronic music around. I’ve been keeping my eye on each round of artists as they came out. Now here is the full lineup with the stages listed.  Are you coming out this year? Which day? All 3? Maybe hitting it up VIP style? I love knowing that I’m in my last year at school, that each season I go through is the last time I’ll miss it! Just signed up for my last Summer class – Human Factors in Security. Two more after that and grad school is over!

Now I was a bit torn on the best way to say Thank You to a certain list of people. After the dust has settled and the commotion has died down just a little, I wanted to take a moment to give a big giant shout out to a list of people.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to thank everyone by name – I’m just so afraid I’ll miss someone. So many people helped Ankhjii get to this first competition. First and foremost, it meant the world to us that you were so supportive, that you were so confident in her ability to do this. Obviously it wasn’t about winning. Winning is great, but this was about the journey just as much. Getting competition ready, overcoming whatever might go on in your head, taking the stage confidently. So many people helped the process, people donated money which helped us actually get to the competition properly equipped and helped minimize stress, people offered so many words of encouragement, people helped us, offered services, etc. Some of you even bought shirts that actually had Ankhjii on them, and people came out to support her. If you look at everything that went on, it was pretty amazing!!

I tried to keep a list of who did what and when so that I could thank everyone after the show went down. I hope I did a good job, but so much happens so quickly that I might have missed some stuff.

Joe & Charisse Traband, Ricky & Nina Rivera, Chris Jagodka, DJ & Kandace Pasko, Kelly & Jon Lammi, Kelly & Butch Laderach, C.J. Winkelman, Liz Shell, Ankhjii’s Parents, Karrie Ann Davis, and Lisa Smith — Your financial contributions were so very generous. You really helped us to ensure Ankhj had all the gear and supplies she needed. We didn’t have to cut any corners, and we didn’t have to stress about paying for everything that was needed. Thanks to you, she was able to focus on her actual fitness.

Christina Cross, Cindy Holloway, and Karrie Ann Davis — You guys bought the shirts!! How cool is that? Ankhj loves it every time I wear my shirt, and she was amazed that people would actually wear a shirt with her on it. Thank you so much for buying and wearing these!

Bonni Bellner and Nick Osberger had offered up some contact information for resources. I think some other folks did too…. Unfortunately I might not have all the info here. Whether I listed you here or not, if you offered up any sort of resource, it is very much appreciated. There is so much conflicting info out there that sometimes it can be hard to sort the fact and fiction. Speaking with people who actually have experience can be a huge help.

Along with Ricky we had her parents, her cousin Carrie, DJ Pasko, Karrie Ann, and Christina Cross (and little Devon) who attended the show to see all the action.

There were countless others who continually provided words of encouragement to her in person, on Facebook, etc. That encouragement meant the world to us.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some people. Others I might not have known about (I only know about the stuff I was directly involved with). But please be assured that you all had some part in helping us reach the goal! In the very first post I made about this event, I quoted her announcement in which she said she wanted to step onstage and make herself an athlete. I’d say she has excelled at that and not only attained, but exceeded the goals she set for herself.

Thank you to each and every person who helped my wife reach her goal!

I’m sure most of you are already aware, but the Toledo Glass Scepter bodybuilding and figure competition was this past Saturday. Ankhjii put in a tonne of hard work, and many of you helped support her on her journey to this point. This year was the biggest year they have had at the Scepter in terms of number of women competing. Here’s how the categories worked, in case you were wondering exactly what she won. The competitors get divided up by age, height, and experience. There is novice, for girls who have not won a competition previously, and open which is for any experience level. There is short, medium, and tall for height, and there is also sub-masters, and masters for age. Ankhjii signed up for novice, as she has never competed at all before. She also competed in the open competition.

She first won the Figure Women’s Short Novice trophy. There was a winner for each height class within each age group in the novice division. Each of the winners of their class competed for the overall figure novice award. Ankhjii was the winner of that competition taking the title for Women’s Figure Novice Overall.

The open division was broken up similarly by height and age. The difference here was that women with any amount of experience were allowed to compete. Once again Ankhjii won her class taking the Women’s Figure Short Open trophy. Again, all of the winners for the height and age classes took the stage for the overall competition and Ankhjii won the Women’s Figure Open Overall award, which is the essentially winning the entire competition – the culmination of the entire event. She was presented with the glass scepter for which the competition is named.

She worked so very hard in the months leading up to this moment that I was quite certain she would be coming home with some awards. All of the women train very hard for this so there was no way to know that Ankhjii was going to win it all. There were a lot of winners up on that stage and you could definitely see the hard work and dedication. I’m very proud of my wife for everything she put into this. She set out to be the best she could be and poured everything she had into it. The result of that hard work is that we have to figure out where to put all of her trophies now!! I have a set of pictures here on my Flickr. I’ll have a bunch more up there as soon as we get them.

I just wanted to make one more post before the big day! We really appreciate all of the support we’ve gotten: help, resources, contacts, money, thoughts, positive energy, anything! You’ve all helped Ankhjii by showing support, minimizing stress, etc. This has allowed her to really focus on what she needed to focus on. You’ve all made this day possible, and you are all amazing friends!

I wanted to take one more opportunity to post the details for anyone needing them.

Prejudging – This is the first part of the competition at 11:30am. The cost for anyone wanting to watch this potion is $10.

Finals – The final posing in which winners get picked and the awards presented is at 5:00pm. The cost to watch the finals is $20.

The flyer mentions that advance tickets are $25 for both. I do not know if that deal is available at the door or not, I’m anticipating spending the full $30. If you can only attend one part, the finals are probably where the action is at. We also don’t know exactly what happens when, so I cannot venture a guess as to when Ankhjii will be on stage – for eaither portion it would be best to be there right at the start time. Remember, this is also a bodybuilding show. There could potentially be many groups of men and women posing so we also don’t know exactly how long any portion will last.

We will be in and out of the theatre – could be there, could be home, could be running emergency errands. I can’t guarantee where we will be at any given time. One thing for certain, Ankhjii will not be available at all and won’t have her phone on her (no pockets in them tiny suits). If anyone needs anything, you will have to contact me. I will have my phone on me.
