Yesterday marked the end of the school year for Wadsworth Schools and the start of a four month break for students. For Valley View, Overlook, Isham and Wadsworth High School it also marked the end of an era. These could very well be the last pictures taken of WHS before it is torn down.

Notice the barren walls on the stairwell where many Wadsworth athletes accomplishments once hung. Wadsworth alumni are mourning the loss of school memories that they shared with several generations of Wadsworthians. Beginning this week, all four schools will be torn down. The new schools will open in the Fall. Fortunately the Wadsworth School System did allow alumni to tour all of Wadsworth’s schools to capture pictures and video for posterity. If you’re like most of us who let life’s little moments creep up and pass us by, you’ll have to catch up on your memories about the old school in Wadsworth via Facebook or here.

Growing up in Wadsworth, I attended Valley View Elementary School from grades two through five and WHS all four years. I remember the traffic light system at Valley View that told students whether it was safe to go play on the playground or “red” which meant we played in the gym, (no idea what yellow was), but most of all I remember playing on the playground and the giant hill with the huge tree in the back… and of course no air conditioning.

Who doesn’t remember “The Commons” or the courtyard at the high school? Many a euchre game, first kiss, and countless other memories occured there.

Today, I went to Circle K on Broad St & Silvercreek only to find the air machine not working for the third week in a row. Off to Giant Eagle at 261 in Wadsworth I went only to hear from the attendant their that the company who provided them ripped them out because they heard Giant Eagle was going to start offering free air. Really? the air company didn’t want to get their 75 cents worth of what is freely available to the whole world to breath until Giant Eagle finally installs free air. Finally I found the Circle K on High Street by Great Oaks to still offer air at the incredible bargain of 75 cents! Get your air now while it only costs you $30,000 to breath for the rest of this week. At least you’ll be able to get FREE air from Giant Eagle next month which is pretty considerate of them considering they already probably get 75% of your gas and food money.
