Waking Up started as a screenplay—a vision for a hopeful future beyond money and scarcity. After years of development, a stroke and life changes forced me to rethink my approach. The story wouldn’t let go, and in 2024, I transformed it into a novel. With AI’s help, what once seemed impossible became reality.

Why a utopian future instead of dystopia?
Dystopian futures dominate science fiction, often reflecting our fears rather than our hopes. Waking Up takes another path—not to prescribe a perfect world, but to explore what life could look like beyond scarcity and conflict. It’s an invitation to question our assumptions about society, technology, and human nature, imagining a future shaped by cooperation rather than competition.

• • Will there be a sequel or film adaptation?
A sequel—or even a prequel—is definitely a possibility. While Waking Up stands on its own, there is room to explore what happens beyond Benjamin’s awakening or even to dive deeper into the events that led to the world he wakes up in. If the book gains traction, expanding the story in either direction could be an exciting next step.
As for a film adaptation, the idea has been there from the very beginning. Waking Up actually started as a screenplay before becoming a novel, and the vision of bringing it to the screen is still alive. If the right opportunities arise, this story could very well make its way into film or TV format.
