I Spy – Big Walk

Tonight, while on Facebook (imagine that), I saw a photo of a friend and had a moment of “Oh hey, that’s our shirt!”… followed by the feeling of overwhelming gratitude. My friend Matt, who’s wearing our Big Walk tee in the photo below, is the drummer for August Burns Red, a very successful and talented metalcore band. Matt’s comment on the photo said this, “Make A Wish Foundation’s Zach Neill getting ready to soundcheck with us in Anaheim.”

And that’s when I had that moment of overwhelming gratitude. And tears. It’s amazing enough to know that people all over the world have our shirts, but to know – to see – someone like Matt living it out everyday is powerful. And inspiring. I pray that Zach’s time with Matt + August Burns Red was all he wished it would be – and that Matt’s t-shirt was exactly what our mission statement says: that it was “a reminder to love others every chance we get – no strings attached.”

Amen and amen.

NYIGF 2012

Last weekend, T.J, Mike, Jeff and I went to New York to place orders at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF). We left at 5:30 in the morning (ugh) and made it to the Javits Center just in time for the opening of the show. I can’t fully explain how giant the gift show is. With over 2,500 vendors, the NYIGF attracts 35,000+ buyers (hey, that’s us!) each year. If you’re not mentally prepared for it, it’s quite overwhelming. But we love it! We placed orders with some awesome companies and I can not wait to get all the new products into our store… headphones, wallets, home decor, bags, iPad cases, sunglasses and more!

After we were finished at the show, we headed into the city to grab some pizza (supposedly the “best pizza on the planet”, but I wasn’t convinced), then got stuck in traffic forever, and eventually made it back to good ‘ol Manheim.

Meet Gio

My first memory of Gio was when she was probably like 6 years old. I was at my brother’s swim meet and was of the timers (which made me feel super cool, by the way) and Gio was in “my lane”. I remember cheering her on, watching her swim summer after summer. She was a talented and beautiful little girl. And she’s nothing short of those two things today, talented and beautiful that is! I love having Gio be part of our shoots – her smile is just gorgeous! And don’t forget about that hair!
