CHEVRON CAKE :: DESIGN UPDATE

Woww, it's been almost a month since my last post! Time flies and my lack of posts actually have an explanation. I'm on a moving process, kids are back to school, gymnastics and football practices 3 days a week, and I'm still taking orders (mostly custom), so the time I have left to post here it's been very short.
This past weekend I made this gougeous cake, that I'm in love with :) for a baby shower and I wanted to share with you all.

The inspiration I had to make it was this beautiful nursery

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over and the little ones have to go back to school and others go for the first time right?
I'm so excited for my little girl starting Kindergarten this year and also my boy will be a 3rd grader !!

LAMPSHADE RE-DO :: DIY

Do you have an old lamp shade home that needs a little revamp? Well, here is an idea, a simple and easy way do transform your old lamp shade, just using a thin rope, hot glue and a couple of hours.

On the beggining of July, Pipa, one of the contributors for the Buzzfeed contact me and asked if I wanted to do a lamp shade project for her, I didn't think twice and jumped on the opportunity. As a crafter and a chalenger lover I had to do it!

My plan for this little project is to add 2 more lamp shades with different shapes and instead of using the base I want to hang all together from the ceiling to decorate my new office. :)

Supplies needed

1. Rope

2. Old lamp shade, you can buy at goodwill or any thrift store

3. Hot glue and gun

Instructions

1. Clean the lampshade's surface;

2. Start gluing the rope around the lampshade until it's all covered;

3. Make some spirals with the rope, different sizes and at least 6 spirals;

4. Glue the spirals to the lampshade, making any design you want

5. attach a lamp to the lampshade and you're done!

MERMAID PARTY PRINTABLES :: NEW TO THE SHOP

Starting the series of "I love you more than" , today I'm adding to the shop 2 new designs which can be printed as a 8 x 10 art print or as a 5 x 7 card.

The inspiration for these designs came from my daughters, they always say to me and to their papa how much they love us, the first time when they said these words, my heart melted , the funny thing is that Maya my 3 years old loves and laugh so hard when we tell her that we love her more than chinese food. {smile}

CAKES AND INVITATIONS :: DESIGNS UPDATE

Hi there!
I know it's been a while since my last post, but this summer it's been crazy around here. I'm traveling a lot and also always when I get back I have a lot do home! Sometimes I feel like I live for cleaning, washing clothes and dishes (crazy how these things are endless), and no time to do what I had in my schedule.
Here is a little of what I have been up to these past days, I mean what I could do in my short days of design :)
I was up to design a mermaid collection, I still working on the printables but I came up with 2 beautiful double sided invitations, thank you note and envelope liner.

This is a Gi cake I made for one of my husband students, his mom wanted a small inspired Jiu Jitsu cake, most of the times it is hard to work on small cakes, but I think this one turned out great and the birthday boy was so pleased!

This is a 6+8+10 tiered cake for a sweet 3 years old girl, her mom was throwing a Strawberry Shortcake party but didn't want the character on the cake, we worked on the color scheme and the cake came out beautifully!

I still have some custom designs to reveal, but just after the clients approve the final file! Can't wait to show them. :)

COLOR CRUSH MONDAY :: BEACH COLOR PALETTES

Hello friends!
How are you enjoying the summer so far? Between a hot weather and even hotter wether I've been very busy, last week I tried to focus on my work, but unfortunately I couldn't!
My husband had his big fight Saturday at UFC 148 and thank God he won!!! Those were the longest 15 minutes of my life, oh gosh!!! I almost had a heart atack, my heart was pumping so fast that was about to come out of my mouth! {smile}
Now, getting back to work, here is the two color palettes I'll be working on this week. :)

Love these shades of blue with a pop of color!

PHOTO FRAME BACKGROUND :: DIY SATURDAY

I feel it's time for some DIY, it's been 4 weeks since my last project, and by the way I'm impressed how much attention the lampshade project got! So many features and mentions on Blogs, Facebook and Pinterest. That makes me really happy, and amazes me to know that so many people like my projects and designs. A big thanks to all of you for the love and support!!! {smile}
And here I am sharing one more idea with you :)
The idea behind these photo frames was to bring some element of Skate Parks to my big boy's Skateboard party, the inspiration was the wired fences we see at Skate parks, so I designed the background thinking of that and use it to hang pictures of his past birthdays.
This photo frame {I don't know if we can call that} made the perfect background and it got lots of attention at the party!:)

MATERIAL NEEDED:

Foam board;
Gutter guard (Amerimax 20" roll vinyl) { I bought @Lowe's $ 3.72 }
Spray paint;
Fishing line;
Needle;
Spray adhesive;
Brown paper;
Clothespins;
Rule and pencil;

INSTRUCTIONS

Spray paint the foam board (2 coats);
With the foam completely dry, start shaping the gutter guard onto the foam {I made zig zags with waves} secure using the needle and fishing line, make a double knot on the back and cut the line;
When done shaping the gutter guard, cut it off what is left (probably half of the roll);
Spray adhesive the back of the foam, stick the brown paper, then trim;

5. Place the hanger on the middle top of the back side of the foam and you're done!
6. Use clothespin to hold the pictures.

Hi there! I hope you all had an amazing week full of fun and work. Yesterday was officially the 1st day of summer, but feels like we're on summer for a while :) The heat down here is already hitting the sky, and my days now are busier than ever! Kids out of school, Gymnastic practice twice a week, Football practice started on Monday, so practices are 3 times a week + ball games on Saturdays! Wowww I need a deep breath....
I made my schedule twice, yesterday I re-made and I hope I can follow now {praying for that} :)
Now, talking about designs, on July 1st the Canadians will celebrate their independence day and in contribuiton with the fun I designed some printables for our fellow friends to celebrate the big day in style!

{CHANEL} & {LOUIS VUITTON} INSPIRED PARTY PRINTABLES :: DESIGN REVEAL FRIDAY

This week my goal was to design party printables using two top brands as inspiration, and I picked CHANEL and LOUIS VUITTON. I was excited and curious at the same time to see how the designs was going to look like. Well, I love the way these printables turned out!

For the CHANEL inspired collection I designed two options of invitations, this first one is more classic, I used the all the colors on my palette, while the second one is very modern.

The gold frame makes this Invitation very chic.

The CHANEL Inspired collection includes: Drink wraps, party logos, mini party logos, return address labels, party flags, cupcake wraps, blank tent cards, banner, 2 options of invitation, thank you note and "Coco Chanel quote" art print.

Love this plain black invitation featuring the CHANEL Logo on top and the stripped back.

And here is the party printables inspired by LOUIS VUITTON Spring/Summer 2012 collection, this one was more chalenging since I want to work with monogramed pattern, but I kept simple and focused on the logos.

The invitation is very fresh and modern, I really like the striped detail on the side with LV monogram on the bottom.

This collection is also full of printables: Drink wraps, party logos, mini party logos, favor tags, party flags, return address labels, cupcake wraps, blank tent cards, thank you note, Invitation, banner and patterned papers.

Hey girls!

TOP BRANDS TRENDS - COLOR CRUSH MONDAY

I'm back!

I had a lot going on last week, couldn't post, couldn't work, so I decide to take the week completely "off", good thing about it is, I could organize things around the house and spend some time with the kiddos. :)

This week I'll be working with two top brands as inspiration to design some party printables, this first color pallete is inspired by " Coco Chanel" with the classic black and white, light pink and gold as accent colors. The second one is inspired by "Louis Vuitton" spring/summer collection, full of pastel colors.

I'm excited to see how both collecitons will turn out, since I never designed any printable inspired by these brands. I have a good feeling about those, we'll see :)

Past week was my little girl birthday, she turned 3 and things are so busy around here, we decide to make her party at the end of June.

"A PEA IN THE POD" BABY SHOWER - SHOW OFF THURSDAY

When the talented Erin Borges from Erin Borges Event Design contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I could design some party printables with "A Pea in the Pod" theme for a baby shower that she was planning, I didn't think twice and accepted the challenge.
With just two weeks to plan this baby shower, Erin thought about every little detail, from the menu to all the decorations. I love how she played with the "A Pea in the Pod" concept, and incorporated the "green" in the decor, making a beautiful tablescape and cupcake tree, followed by a very creative and delicious menu (all the food and drinks were green).

Erin wrote:

" The food was indeed delicious! Chef Luis at Lalla Grill always impresses me with his skill.
Yes... I made the entire tree 100% myself! The actual tree is a metal rod structure that I rented and decked out into what you see. I created the cupcake "swings" from cuts of cardboard and then wrapped the fluted edge with yarn and suspended each from the branches. The tree was wrapped entirely in yarn as well. I only had 2 weeks notice for this event and a limited budget so I chose materials that would allow me more freedom. Thus, I asked my floral team- Pam Mielke to create several green button mum pomanders and I shrink wrapped them in green cellophane to create the "pea in the pod" on the tablescape. I also used a baby's crib bumper as my table runner which softened the glass tabletops. It was perfect for the theme and the dimensions were spot on! It was a subtle touch of "baby" while not being too cutesy. "

What a fabulous job, Erin. I really don't know which part is my favorite, the cupcake tree, the "peas" centerpieces, or the delicious menu you've created!

JELL-O CUSTARD WITH STRAWBERRIES - SWEET WEDNESDAY

Summer is definitely here and with the hot hot hot weather outside, nothing better than a chilled dessert right after lunch or dinner!
This recipe makes my mouth water just looking at it! It's so delicious and easy to make.
If you're planning a party, you can also make individual portions using small glasses and display on you dessert table, the presentation is beautiful and the guests will love!

My poor hubby couldn't try, he is in a severe diet right now, he got a fight coming up on July 7th (UFC 148) and needs to loose some pounds 'til there!

But I'm not too bad! I saved some Sugar-free Jell-o for him :)

INGREDIENTS

Can of Condensed Milk
Can of Nestle Media Crema Table cream
2 Tbs of Cornstarch;
1 2/3 C. Milk;
Strawberries;
2 packets of Jell-O (Strawberry flavor)

INSTRUCTIONS

Dissolve the gelatin according to package directions (set aside);
In a medium sauce pan mix together the cream, condensed milk, milk and cornstarch (cook in medium to low heat);
TIP - Mix the cornstarch with half of the milk before mixing all the ingredients;
Stir slowly all the time until the cream thickens (about 20 minutes);
Remove from heat and let it chill (you can put on the fridge);
Choose your dessert glass, make a 1st layer with the cream, a 2nd layer with strawberries, and for last, a 3rd layer with the gelatin (liquid);
Place in the fridge and wait the gelatin gets consistent.

FREE PRINTABLE QUOTE - INSPIREME TUESDAY

Two weeks ago, I watched a movie called "Gifted Hands" this movie is based on a true story about Ben Carson, a young boy that didn't have much chance in life, but faith, hope and his belief in himself not only changed his life, but changed the medicine's course forever. He became one of the world's best neurosurgeons because he had faith following his dream.
His mother used to tell him "You can do anything everyone else can do, but only you can do better", this was one of the ways she kept him motivated .
Isn't that true?
We all have the opportunity to do better, it is a hard work, but if we believe, have faith and patience we can make our dreams come true.
If you like motivational movies, you should watch this one, it is an amazing story!

LITTLE LAMB BABY SHOWER - DESIGN REVEAL FRIDAY

Busy week around here, I couldn't keep up with all the designs I wanted to do but at least I came with this cute theme for a Baby Shower. I don't know why but lately I have been designing a lot for Baby Showers!

When I started to design this Little Lamb package, I came with five different invitations, then I finally came up with this design and I absolutelly love it!

To make this collection versatile for boys and girls, I chose some neutral colors and added eggplant and leaf green on the color palette to make it pop.

Remember the Mother's Day collection? Well, today I want to show you what this talented and sweet girl from Brazil have done with it!
Before Mother's Day Margaret from Cookieria by Margaret found me on Etsy and contact me, she loved the collection and wanted to incorporate the patterns and roses from the printables on her cookies, I was thrilled to help somebody from my country for the first time with my designs.
