Warnings how many does it take to get you to get somewhere and sit down and smell the roses?

Because Lupus is so hard to diagnose, I am sure I was experiencing symptoms long before I received my official diagnoses. It seem as a though I learned early on to hide my pain and to keep on pushing on. Being a strong and reliable person was and is an important part of who I am. Taking care of others gave and gives me the strength and will to continue my fight with Lupus.

First warning was when my youngest son was in the 3^rd or 4^thgrade he was receiving the Terrific Kid Award this particular day. When I woke up that morning it was hard to move, even my hair hurt. My husband had to dress me and it took what seemed like hour to accomplish this task. My body was swollen and walking felt like I was walking on water balloons. I made to the program and tried not to show any discomfort but I was glad to get back home. It took me about 3 weeks to tolerate my pain then it was back to work determined to make up for lost time.

Second warning still working hard at my job and at home, pull into work parking lot (abdominal pain) oh I just need to grab a little breakfast. NOT!! Make it back home (by the way at the time I worked right next door to a hospital) then to the ER where I was admitted, CT, Scan show mass you have got to go right in the operating room. The mass turned out to me a large amount of blood which they (OB GYN, PCP, and Surgeon) could not find or agree on where the blood came from. Recover and back to work.

Third warning came about two years later. Once again heading to work with the headache from hell. Once at work one of my colleagues took my blood pressure 190/85 one of the doctors that I worked for sent me home with instruction to go to the ER if the headache got worse. (I am hard headed) I got worse but I did not go to the ER until that night, again I was admitted this time it turns out I had a TIA (stroke) Recover and back to work. Okay I get it I have a disease that I need to acknowledge.

Forth warning? What? This time Mr. Lupus was affecting my central nervous system. I could not process words I was stuttering this was the warning that my Rheumatologist “said you are at the point with your Lupus that you cannot work anymore”. What? What about my Kids (grown men)? What about my job?

As I stated earlier making people happy is a wonderful blessing. While I now know that I will continue to receive warnings every day. I am blessed to wake up to see another day and the opportunity to make someone happy.

I know that there are many diseases in the world, but what I want is to raise awareness about Lupus. Most people don’t even know what it is or how it affects those affected by it. So I am asking for your help in raising awareness
