Programme funding for 2015 to 2020

We understand that the Central and South Warwickshire submission for LEADER funding has been unsuccessful and that this decision not to award DEFRA funds to these parts of the County has been upheld at appeal.

The Central and South Warwickshire LAG working with Warwickshire County Council developed a detailed and robust application that built upon the incredibly successful previous delivery programme of Central Villages Warwickshire LEADER.

The evidence base we believe was strong and we are bitterly disappointed at this outcome, both for the communities where clear evidenced need through strong local engagement was developed and for those who dedicated their time and energies, often in a volunteer capacity, to deliver LEADER and develop the Local Development Strategy which formed the basis of the submission for funding from 2015 - 2018.

The allocation of European Structural Investment Funds for Coventry and Warwickshire will provide an alternative route for investment for some areas across Central and South Warwickshire and we hope that the legacy of LEADER in these parts of the County will enable rural communities to develop locally driven solutions which create stronger and more vibrant rural communities.

Families Connect 4 Movement
Families Connect 4 Movement is a 10 week creative dance and movement project taking place in the village of Dunchurch and designed to bring together people who live in Warwickshire villages in the Rugby Borough. The 10 week project is aimed at parents/carers and toddlers (age 2 and upwards) who are interested in dancing and moving together as well as meeting like minded people.

If you would like to attend the 10 week project please email kath@wriggledancetheatre.co.uk confirming that you are able to take part in all 10 sessions (ideally but please talk to us if you can't make all the sessions) and the sharing with your name and child/childrens names who will be taking part and your contact details.

Warwickshire Community Resource

There is a fantastic new resource database available in the Warwickshire area. It is open to supporting organisations from the voluntary and community sector, statutory sector, private sector and social enterprises whose aim it is to help benefit the community of Warwickshire.

The creation of this exciting new database, is free to register with and was developed using feedback from organisations and community groups within the Warwickshire area that wanted a community database that would be a way of sharing and exchanging resources in the county.

Pupils bring local food to the playground - School Farmers Market

Binley Woods Primary School, Coombe Drive, Binley Woods, Warwickshire.

Wednesday 20 March, 3.30pm

The school is holding their second farmer's market as part of Central Warwickshire LEADER programme, the Soil Association and Mid Wales Food and Land Trust. Working with 10 schools across Warwickshire, farmers’ markets are set up in the school hall or playground – organised entirely by pupils. There are more farmers' markets in the pipeline at Bishops Tachbrook, All Saints, Clifton on Dunsmore, Dunchurch or Barford St Peter’s Primary schools in the forthcoming months.

Monthly Sewing Workshops in Rugby - on Tuesday 2 April and 1st Tuesday of every month.

These workshops take place at the Quaker House Regent Place Rugby, between 6.30pm - 9.00pm. All are welcome to attend, help is available for dressmaking, repairs, alterations and most crafting needs. Sewing machines are available as well as help and tuition. Tea and cake available for a small fee.

First Aid Training – Sunday 14 April

WDC: FREE ring binders available to a good home

Warwick District Council Finance team is offering for free a job-lot of used A4 lever arch ring binders, mostly black in colour, to any voluntary sector group that can make use of them. There are in the region of 150 binders available, preferably to one organisation. The organisation will need to collect the binders from Riverside House in Leamington.

Art in the Gardens at Ryton Gardens – artists wanted

The Gardener team are looking for sculptors and artists to display their work outdoors, at Garden Organic’s Ryton Gardens site, over the spring and summer periods. Part of the 'Art in the Gardens' display, it will provide an ideal way for artists to showcase their work to the 30 000+ visitors that Ryton welcomes every year. Art work is currently being displayed by willow sculptor Tom Hare, as well as other artists ranging from wood sculptures, ceramics to fabrics and metalwork.

The Edible Garden Show

The Queen’s Award

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is an annual award made to recognise and reward excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community.

The award was announced in 2002 as part of celebrations for The Queen's Golden Jubilee, and was first known as The Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.

It is given for outstanding achievement by groups of volunteers who regularly devote their time to helping others in the community, improving the quality of life and opportunity for others and providing an outstanding service.

Groups must be nominated: for example, by beneficiaries of their work, members of the public, representatives of public bodies, or other voluntary groups. Nominations are assessed by a regional committee before being passed to a national committee for final selection and recommendation to The Queen.

New Ideas Fundraising Event - Traditional Skittles Night

New Ideas are holding a traditional skittles evening to raise funds for their young people’s projects. Stoneleigh Park Farm Walk

Saturday 16 March 2013, 10am - 12.30pm

As part of the Friendly Farmer project to help inform local communities about farming, food production and rural management in their immediate vicinity Warwickshire Rural Hub has organised a farm walk around parts of the Stoneleigh Park estate for people living in Stoneleigh, Ashow, Stareton and surrounding villages.

The free of charge walk will include talks about and the opportunity to see examples of grassland, woodland and shoot/game management on the estate. There will also be visits to the Livestock Market and the sites for the Grasslands and Muck event and the planned Equine Centre. The walk should be of interest to all ages, including children and will be led by Alan Hunt, Stoneleigh Park Farm Manager and Colin Hooper, Estates Director.

Farmer & Community Visits Seminar - 30 April 2013

This seminar is for farmers who want to learn about and enhance community or educational visits on their farms. The aim is to help farmers engage and inform about the work they undertake on a daily basis.

Delivered by Farming And Countryside Education (FACE), seminars will be farm based and will introduce a wide range of simple hands on activities suitable for families and ways to enhance community visits to the farm.

Treasure hunts

WRCC: What’s Your View of Warwickshire?

WRCC is looking for people with a love of photography to share their work with a wider audience. Members of the public are being invited to submit original photographs which depict both rural Warwickshire and its communities to brighten and illustrate their website, which is currently undergoing a makeover.

Warwickshire Community Recycling: Repaint Project

WCR has been collecting reusable paint at its Stockton and Wellesbourne recycling facilities. If you would like to make a donation of paint the staff there have received training and will be able to advise on its suitability for donation.

If you are an organisation that could make use of reusable paint, from village halls requiring a makeover to housing associations that have tenants that could make use of this resource, WCR currently has an offer of a year's free subscription to the Repaint scheme. If you join before the 31 March 2013 you will get access to free paint, a range of volunteering opportunities and the chance to get involved in determining the future of this project within Warwickshire.

Prince’s Trust Team Programme - opportunities for young people

If you're unemployed, seeking direction and ideas for your future, we have something to get you going…

Long Lawford Skatepark

Long Lawford Parish will be holding a special version of their youth club on Wednesday 20 March, 5pm to 7pm at King George’s Field in relation to their planned skatepark.

The three companies who attended the earlier meeting have now drawn up their designs based on the ideas and wishes given to them, and will now take it in turn to present their designs in a maximum 30 minute slot each. Anyone with an interest in skate/scooters/BMX will be encouraged to attend, and will be given the opportunity to give feedback on each of the designs in case of any desired ‘tweaks’, and then will vote to decide the winning design.

Willow Basketry for Beginners

The timeless craft of basketry can seem complicated and fiddly to the
untrained eyes and hands. This course has been designed to guide total beginners, step by step through each stage of the basket-making process,making it easy to understand. Participants can expect to leave with their own round multipurpose / vegetable basket, complete with handle.

Peoples Health Trust: Active Communities Funding Programme

The Peoples Health Trust has opened its ‘Active Communities Funding Programme: HealthThrive, which covers Coventry, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire.

The Active Communities Funding Programme aims to close the health gap between those communities that experience the worst health in Britain and the majority of the population - by supporting local people to use their skills and knowledge to make their communities better places in which to grow, live, work and age.

The programme awards grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 to local community and voluntary organisations.

Application deadline - Thursday 11 April 2013.

We have been invited to submit a full application to the LAG for installing community orchards in the area over the next two years so if you want to install an orchard in your village or parish please get in touch with us through the LEADER team and we can arrange to develop your ideas and include them in the business plan for the project.
