iPad jQuery restrictions on multiselect drop downs within the parent lable tag

When I feel everything works, there has to be some platform or gadget that has to act up. Today it was the iPad HTML5 rendering with jQuery. I have a five step registration form that was tested and over tested on Windows, Mac, Androids, Kindle Fire and iPad; and only now, it is found to be something that doesn't work. The bug turns out to be "label" tag that encapsulates the select tag's of organization list and on-change update of another select tag below the organization select tag which is address locations of the referring organization. It seems, because the label tag is the parent tag for both selects, it will only allow the drop down of organization list to be selected. The minute the address select is touched, the iPad closes the list of addresses and reopens the list of organization names. It is silly, yet, it may have it's reasons. I have to go back to wizard page and readjust many such label tags which have multiple select tags. I guess today's is one of those days, something you learn every day!

Update 1: I thought I resolved the issue with iPad but it seems the error has it ways of coming back again and again. First the issue was the LABEL tag, now it seems the first option of multi-select will not get selected in iPad. I do not understand why it is not selecting the first option, but it will work if it had more than one option. I wish there was some way to capture the issue.

What is SharePoint? Microsoft SharePoint 2010 makes it easier for people to work together. Using SharePoint 2010, organization staff or members can set up Web sites to share information with others, manage documents from start to finish, and publish reports to help everyone make better decisions. I have decided to take the SharePoint 2010 Exam, and for study purpose, signed up for MicrosoftELearning.com online course and TestKing.com selected preparation exam. After all the lets get started and moving along, strange and sad thing happen, the MicrosoftELearning First Virtual Machine Lab is broken, and I don't feel like moving forward, until I can complete the lab. At the same token, I can't take the TestKing exam until I actually understand what I will be tested on in the exam. Its a sad sad situation as I have a deadline to pass the class by Jan 15th. I don't have any client project waiting in line to meet that deadline, but it's just I have to finish it off by than. I have created a support ticket with eLearning yesterday and so far have not received any feedback. Good or bad, the full MSDN web site library is available free of cost obviously, but if I had the patience to read it all, than I would not have paid MicrosoftELearning for the online course. I am not sure when I may be getting a reply from the support team as it's close to the end of the business day in eastern timezone. Just like the song "Let's pretend" I will get a reply before I come back to work tomorrow.

Virtual PC: XP Mode: Windows 7 Password Issue

I had the XP Mode enabled on the pc with Windows 7 Ultimate and installed the additional virtual pc's of windows xp and windows 7 professional for testing. After using Win 7 VPC initially, I did not used it for months and today when I tried to use it again, I was prompted for log-in, after repeated tries with every combination again and again, I am unable to gain access to the virtual pc, even though I had a basic password with a hint. Nothing seems to be working. As it was a virtual pc on my laptop, no one else had access to it to update the password, so it's really annoying to run into this issue. Researching the issue online, seems many people on the XP mode, let it be Windows 7 or Windows XP, have the same issue. After trying few of the solutions, I am still out of luck and it seems like I am running out of options, as none of the forums gives a clear answer, and some have the solution for password recovery tools but that just not the method to solve this issue as the same can happen in the future. If the issue is not resolved, than only best option for me will be to re-install and lose all the software patches and what not installed on the pc. ASP.Net DotNetNuke Page Header Head/Meta Tags

Adding meta, css and script tag to the header proved to be too much trial and error. And searching online results in no clear solution either.

My custom requirement was for DotNetNuke Module to add css and script tag at page level head tag not inside the body tag.

Here is the simple solution:

Note:

I have added script later than style-sheets as its the recommended way for rendering the style-sheets and JavaScript.
Also note that if you need to use the double quotes within the "...", you just use two double quotes to avoid the compilation or error message.

DotNetNuke WebFormsMvp.IView error

I am not sure what this error is of DotNetNuke source for visual studio 2010.

Error 4 Class 'ModuleViewBase' must implement 'ReadOnly Property ThrowExceptionIfNoPresenterBound As Boolean' for interface 'WebFormsMvp.IView'. Implementing property must have matching 'ReadOnly' or 'WriteOnly' specifiers. C:\Users\general\svn\DotNetNuke\Build\Trunk\DotNetNuke.Web\Mvp\ModuleViewBase.vb 31 20 DotNetNuke.Web

I tried searching for this error but no solution. I am not sure how this error can be resolved.

Any one has any suggestions?

Update-5/9/2011: I am not sure if by mistake I mixed the source code with C# and VB. The svn is I think C# where as the codeplex source may still be VB and upgrading from one to the other may have resulted in the issue.

I am not 100% sure, but deleted the source and starting from scratch now; glad my custom modules source code is separate. Sad part I have to restart all over again.

Jquery Quick Tabs for DotNetNuke HTML Module

If you want to quickly add tabs solution to your HTML Module than follow the below methods to accomplish it.

I have used the Microsoft Ajax CDN file reference as the following link allows me to choose different color scheme with just changing the UI css file reference.

This will basically enable your page to have tab options. As the HTML module will have the user level permissions, this basically makes it a working solution, without spending money or installing tabs solutions which are too complex or bloated.

As the javascript and CSS are placed under the page meta tag settings, the content contributer or editors will not have to deal with the scripts and css, and if the contributer or the editor did messes up the text, it will not be some complex module vb or c# script but rather the html in the HTML module that you will need to fix to resolve any issues.

Hope it helps to anyone who is looking for a fast solution for dynamic tabs for the dnn solution.

WebRequests to the configured external xml source are not permitted (Medium trust)

I have setup a YouTube XML channel list on my DotNetNuke website and all was working good on the staging site as it was in full trust but production being a shared hosting has a medium trust and now the IFrame and XSL rewrite script and all are useless as the web service to pull the XML from YouTube itself is failing because of the medium trust issue.

Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

WebRequests to the configured external xml source are not permitted (Medium trust)

Anyone has any additional update on how to fix this? without the need of compiling the entire DotNetNuke source code?

Hi,

If you are also having issues with installing .Net Framework .35 SP1 even after enabling the features from "Turn On Windows Features" than you are in the right place.

Being a developer I installed the IE9 Beta and when windows update alerted me for updated final release browser I went for the upgrade without uninstalling the IE9 Beta.

Now I see a issues with installing plugins and softwares because they require .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and I can't seem to install it as each time it just fails to install.

The "c:\> sfc /scannow" did found the corrupt cab files under the Internet Explorer "manifest_A197AD26-372E-4d4f-AAB9-92B5CD6B2C3A_en-us.cab" and the file is corrupted in both Program Files folder and its size differs in few kb.

I tried running command "%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5\setup.exe /qb /norestart" but this alerts the folder "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5" does not exists and in the "v3.5" folder there is no "setup.exe" either so not sure from where I am suppose to run this command.

Looking at the log "c:\> findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > sfcdetails.txt" yeilded nothing much either.

I am feeling I am running out of options but one last try is to uninstall IE9 and go back on IE8 and then see if that solves anything.

I will update this blog after some information from these steps and others. Let me know if you have any suggestions or solutions.

Today I ran across the issue on blogger for setup of domain name with error message of "Another blog is already hosted at this address.".

This particular error seems to come from multiple scenarios:

Domain being used up by setting up as Google Apps domain and using the sites feature of google apps.
Or another administrator or the same person, long ago setup the domain on another login of the blogger/google account.
Domain name mapping changed after blogger publish setup; and it is not mapped correctly to ghs.google.com under the domain registrar after either moving the domain to new registrar or the zone file updated without reestablishing the old zone file settings.

IE 9: Slow Action of Tools Menu

I love the new IE 9 but it is very slow to load at times or the Tools Menu action is slow by almost a minute or even two minutes.

I don't know what is the problem with my installation on Windows 7 but I removed all add-on's and restart with and without software acceleration, checkbox check in advance options of internet options. Something is really strange. If the browser is opened and I can see the webpage, than why is the tools menu click action so slow to response?

I just might have to ask the question on IE 9 forum if this keeps continuing.

Configuring PHP on Windows Training Kit with SQL Server 2008 R2

There were lot of trial and errors; but I was finally able to setup "PHP on Windows Training Kit" on Windows 7 with SQL Server 2008 R2.

It was the dependencies check which through the curve balls in the check for all requirements installed or not.

I updated these PowerShell files to complete the setup:

Files in: \Labs\GettingStarted\Setup\scripts\Dependencies\Check

CheckAdventureWorks2008DB

For AdventureWorks I had to remove the "2008" as the database that is installed on my machine does not have the database name as "AdventureWorks2008"

CheckSQL2008

For SQL Server check I have to search for R2 as just 2008 will return as not found.

Same as SQL server search; this native client is also R2 and needs to be searched as such.

I had to download the php sql server dlls and stuff but that's easy to follow instructions. This PowerShell updates were the changes I have done for the first time. The setup for "PHP on Windows Training Kit" is straight forward but it should have a check for R2 but in case anyone else have similar issue; I hope this can help you.

DotNetNuke: Customized Events Module Upgrade to Standard

Today I was able to upgrade a customized Events module of the DNN (DotNetNuke) at the request of the client. After my suggestion the client wanted to have the latest updates and also gave an okay to drop the customization and use the standard events module.

What should have been an easy upgrade quickly turned into a nightmare; a nightmare which took all evening yesterday and the early morning today.

It turns out that the install wizard does not rollbacks all the things as is; especially the ones which were checked with IF Exists or IF NOT Exists SQL.

I believe the IF (NOT) Exists scenarios should actually turn on and off boolean values so that they can be passed on as parameters to the other SQL scripts and all the way to the rollback scenario.

It was really painful to redo all things at least ten times as the error was triggering the rollback and retry will fail at missing columns or columns already exists; which were added or deleted by the previous try and were not undone by the rollback.

Facebook CurlException SSL connection timeout

My first Facebook application has been giving me this SSL connection timeout error and it seems that it happens once in a while. To resolve this I searched and browsed many sites and finally able to find one which gives some solution.

My solution is different than this website. For mine I thought about increasing the timeout and rather than increase it for each call, I just updated the code that it only increases the timeout for SSL call; that way the server wait time does not gets increased on every call.

Here is my code.

MS SQL: How to change the table schema

Honestly I am not a DBA and it scares me to dead, when I have to write or run MS SQL administrative level scripts. I was having too much issue with a production backup and restore because some tables were user schema based and each time on staging; I had to delete and recreate tables with right schema. Today, I finally decided to change the schema of three tables which were giving me headaches on the live site. As the tables were created with a user name schema; I couldn't delete the tables as they have live data nor I knew how to change the schema.

After finding a solution on MSDN, I decided to modify and run it on the production server after some testing and review on staging. Below is the script that I have used. It is just a one-liner but it removes the hassle that was giving me too much grief over permissions and ownership.

ALTER SCHEMA MyNewSchema TRANSFER oldSchema.TheTableName

Did Amazon survival vindicated cloud hosting?

With the recent failure of big name brands websites in the face of DDoS attacks kind of brought to the attention the vulnerability of hosted solutions but the survival of the Amazon.com in the face of calamity does shed a light to the Cloud Hosting. It boost the flexibility of cloud hosting not just of the Amazon cloud hosting solution but the cloud hosting in general. When a vast distributed system is setup mainly to deal with this kind of situation and it lives up to it; it speaks volumes.

It seems that in the face of calamity Amazon survival just might have given the boost to cloud hosting. Some might argue it's not a big deal or the attack didn't really take place but what ever the case might have been but to an IT administrator this example could be used as "what happened" rather than saying "what if" such and such or x, y, z scenario.

I don't have nor suggested so far to my clients any hosting at Amazon cloud, Microsoft Azure or Google App Engine; well at least not yet :-)

Connecting/Linking Social Media Networks with each other

I had some pretty damn hard time, connecting the most used social media networks. I wanted to connect all the below networks without making a duplicate entry and I guess little review solved it but the result is that now I can't have My Notes published on Facebook.

I think removing notes from Facebook will simplify my blog entires; Previously I had to monitor not just the comments on my blog but also replies or likes on Facebook, even though I like the Facebook comments feature and the like feature; it is not connected to my blog. If there are 10 or more replies on My notes on Facebook, the visitors on my blog will see none as my blog is hosted on Google's Blogger platform. I hope that Blogger platform will somehow support Facebook Connect with it's platform and other platforms as well but for now it's not doing that and for that reason I chosen the below linking method to connect to the most used social media networks.

Here is the solution I am using, from my blog I first subscribed to the Feedburner and from that I connected the socialize API of Feedburner for twitter and on Facebook I allowed the Twitter api to update my status on Facebook.

This way all my networks gets updated when I blog.

Facebook: Welcome App + Contact Form in PHP

Good feeling! I just implemented a welcome app and it's contact form submission in Facebook Apps. The implementation of the contact form is simple but it seems so complex when the regular post method does not work and I had to change the post method to get in php.

Wish these details were posted before somewhere, but it's not easy to find a solution when I was searching for a specific text.

The form actually resides on my server, but the URL is of apps.facebook.com, so the formmail.php script that, I used because of php, runs into problem, as somehow it's trying to process the form through apps.facebook.com domain rather than that of the domain inside the iframe of my server.

Facebook Ads Purchase/Implementation

Recently I have purchased a pay-per-click ad on Facebook.

It just happen two weeks ago that I wanted to showcase one of my personal domain MiMuslims.com as a portal for friends and people to share information online regarding Ramadan and Islam within Michigan and so began the process of launching the web site, blog, twitter account and Facebook page before Ramadan starts.

The domain was purchased long ago so I didn't have to do much but just to point the domain to Facebook page, then setup the blog site on Google's blogger and then setup the twitter account, after which I wrote few blog entries and started posting on the Facebook page. It wasn't long before all things looked atleast as it the page has content and not like a site under construction.

After all the setup, I thought about advertisements, should I run a ad on Google's ad-works or something else? Then as I was hearing so much about Facebook it just felt like I should run a ad on it.

On Facebook I wasn't sure how much money I should spend and also I wasn't sure where to begin or what to display, but as I started signing up for the Facebook ad, it started to look somewhat easier and at the end of all the information filled out I waited in anticipation of the ad being approved, well lets just leave the financial and technical details out lol.

I waited for the response to the ad being approved or is it rejected, for which I repeatedly clicked on refresh for 5 or 10 mins before realizing it may take longer time to get the ad approved.

So I logged off and after a while when I checked my phone and saw a message from Facebook and the subject line "Ad Approved" i was way happy and at the same time nervous, what if I racked up 100's of dollars of bill already? Thank goodness nothing like that happen and I was able to see the approved ad and new ad management related pages which were not visible or available before under pages.

I appreciated the detail impressions of the ads, clicks and actions, as well as how much money I spend in total and per click. It was very easy to understand and appreciate.

As the ad timeline ended this week, I am happy to say that I learned enough about the Facebook Ad management and how to market a web site online. Now I feel like I have an idea about online marketing not just for Facebook but for other platforms as well as I am starting to research them.

Rosetta Stone: 2125 Error Message

Update 2:
It seems if you have an external sync hard drive or storage, setup to keep two computers in sync with each other, the tracking.db3 file will get corrupted. Even if the sync feature is only used on a single computer as a backup method and not connected to second computer.

Make sure to exclude the Rosetta Stone folder in case you have any sync features from external hard drives, or service from dropbox, jungle disk, cloud storage or other file sharing application setup on your system.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then most likely the issue is with the permissions of the Rosetta Stone Software.

Try running the program as Administrator.

Right click on the "Rosetta Stone Version _" and if available select "Run as administrator".
If the above option is not available than click on
Windows Start Menu
Programs
Rosetta Stone Version _ and right click and select properties
Select the tab for compatibility and select the check box for "Run as administrator.
The above solution solved the issue for me and hope it does the same for others who are looking for a similar issue.

If you are upgrading to dotnetnuke - Release: 05.04.04 and using the "upgrade" zip file than make sure to get the latest 2010 "Telerik.Web.UI".

If you are not sure from where than just download the zip of "Install".

Yes, it's a one extra step to download the "Install" zip file, but it will save you lot of grief as there aren't many post that helps you, in understanding that the dll version and the web.config version do not match.

This same issue happens on other dlls when you are upgrading by skipping two or more minor levels.

Just keep an eye out for dll version numbers and dates.

Completed the implementation of clients "Contact Form" translation given to me, to Spanish and German Languague

Last week on Thursday I naively assumed in a client meeting that, a single page translation of a "Contact Form" to Spanish and German, will not be a big deal and I promised a deadline of next Friday, only to realize now that I should have evaluate the entire contact form and the requirements more.

What I didn't pictured into the quote and the time it will take to finish the job was, that the bottlenecks that I will face could resulted into more research and required more time, but thankfully the geekhood (a.k.a brotherhood) of programmer's who share and post there questions and solutions on forums and blogs, gave me enough bits and pieces to resolve the issues again and again until I was able to deliver on my promise of implementing the translations given to me by the client.

The wrong assumption happened when I was told, here is the English text and here are two Microsoft word files having translation of each text in Spanish and German and all I have to do is display the text based on users choice of language. It was simple or suppose to be :(

I feel good that I was able to accomplish the requirements as they were implemented for the first time by me. Hopefully in the future I will give myself more time to review/think on the task's that I will be quoting the time for the first-time.

The solution was implemented as independent Asp.Net page within the CMS solution of DotNetNuke without changing any of the web.config or globalization file settings.

Today I was able to resolve a issue regarding localization that I had to figure out because of client requirements.

The issue was conflict between DotNetNuke Localization and ASP.Net localization. The requirement was for just one page content localization and one page alone for which I didn't wanted to create a entire module in dotnetnuke or mess up the web.config file's localization settings.

After hard battle with countless tries and retries of examples by many dev's, I finally able to crack it.

The solution came to just using the ResolveURL function and placing the localized files in App_LocalResources. It was so simple but it gave me so much headache.
