Jan. 5, 2011—It’s a sad day here at Inside Track HQ. We must regretfully tell you that, effective immediately, Track is going on hiatus indefinitely.

It may seem crazy to shut down a blog just as it’s gaining popularity and building a loyal audience, but there’s a method behind our madness.

Jan. 3, 2011—Welcome back, UW Tacoma!

It's a new quarter. And a new year. And a new decade, sort of, depending on how you count it. We hope everyone enjoyed the break (if you got one). Here are a couple of things you may have missed in the last few weeks:

Parking changes due to Tioga construction

UPDATE 1/4/2011: All Diamond lots, except the Court 17 garage, are now permit-only Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Learn more on the parking page.

If you park in Lot 431 next to the Tioga Building, expect big changes to the parking lot and streets around it next month. Construction on the new Tioga Library Building (TLB) begins Jan. 4, and the operation will close a portion of the parking lot and change the way traffic is routed in and out.

Party with Nursing tomorrow

Dec. 13 2010—We may have missed Pie Day, but we won't be cheated out of the other great UW Tacoma holiday tradition: The Nursing Program's annual holiday party is tomorrow, Dec. 14, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Nursing (CP 326). Expect music, games and delectable treats.

Dec. 13, 2010— Yesterday's News Tribune featured an op-ed by UW Interim President Phyllis Wise. Two UW Tacoma graduates, Christopher Thomas '10 and Meghan Howey '10, are mentioned.

Here's an excerpt:

"For almost 150 years, the University of Washington has helped to shape the lives of Washingtonians like Christopher and Meghan. We’re a public university and deeply proud of it."

Center for Urban Waters makes magazine cover

Dec. 8, 2010—Check out the cover of the October 2010 issue of Architectural Projects magazine for a beautiful photo of the Center for Urban Waters (select "October 2010" in the drop-down menu and go to page 37 for the full article).

This is the second national magazine story about Urban Waters in a month. They're really putting Tacoma on the map.

Preview Pacific Avenue's new look

Dec. 6, 2010—Big changes are coming to Pacific Avenue. See conceptual designs for the makeover this Thursday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tacoma Art Museum.

The first phase of the project will deal with the right-of-way itself; the second phase will look at improvements to the Hood Street Corridor and Tollefson Plaza in preparation for the Prairie Line Trail that is slated to run through the UW Tacoma campus. Admission to the meeting is free.

Now, we all know Inside Track isn't a sports blog. But we heard there was some kind of football game on Saturday? And it was like a big deal or something? We wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so we sent Marisa Petrich (IAS '10) to the UW Tacoma Apple Cup viewing party at the Harmon for the scoop.

Dec. 6, 2010—Some watched this year’s Apple Cup huddled together with other fans in Martin Stadium. Others kicked back in the warmth of their own living rooms.

Those who watched at UW Tacoma’s annual viewing party at The Harmon got the best of both worlds: fellow fans, all the comforts of home, and the chance to bond with Huskies from across campuses and graduating years.
