Waterbeach Feast Meeting

Dear WASPS Parents/Carers,

The Waterbeach Community Association are holding a 'Feast Meeting' on Monday 3rd February at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Building (Library) on the school site. The Waterbeach Feast is a local event we all enjoy attending and taking part in each year, but without more volunteers to help with organisation of the event and on the day, the Feast will not go ahead. If you are interested and able to offer any help, please attend the meeting, all welcome.

Winter Holiday Club

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are excited to inform you that our WASPS Holiday Club is open on Friday 20th December 2019 and Monday 6th January 2020, 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Bookings can be made via your Libacura account online and are available for full day, half day, or hourly. Alternatively speak to a member of the team.

50% of all Holiday Club fees for bookings in this period, must be paid at the time of booking please.
The remainder of fees for this period, must be paid one week ahead of the start of holiday club (by 13th Dec) please, or 5% of the owed fees will be added to your account and your child's place may not be guaranteed.

Planned activities are as follows: -

Decorating Christmas and Hanukkah cookies and donuts

We are currently recruiting at WASPS, we have job opportunities at our Breakfast Club and After School Club for term time work and are also hoping to recruit more Bank Staff too, to help out as and when needed. There are also opportunities for more hours at our Holiday Club too! Do you know somebody who may be interested? Please help us to spread the word.

Dear WASPS Parents/Carers,

You are invited to attend WASPS Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday 3^rd of October 2019, 7pm to 9pm at Waterbeach Playhouse.

The following points will be discussed and agreed:

1. Budget for the next school year

2. Expenditure for the coming year

3. Appointment of a new committee

WASPS is a charity governed by a Management Committee of volunteers. It is a legal requirement to operate with at least 5 committee members, 3 of which are appointed as Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer.

All the current members of the committee will be stepping down and will not be putting their names up for re-election. Therefore, we are inviting all parents/carers to consider volunteering to join the committee so that we can keep the club open.

Alison Morris, Lead Early Years Business and Governance Advisor, will be attending to answer your questions about committee roles and responsibilities and to discuss support and training available from the Local Authority.

You will have received a nomination form via email already, please complete and submit to any member of the WASPS team prior to the AGM if you are interested in volunteering.

If you would like more information, please come and speak to a member of the team at the club.

Feast Day Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who helped us on Saturday with our efforts for the Feast... with preparations beforehand and on the day help and support with both our stall and the parade. It was a very wet and windy start for setting up the stall, but the weather improved a little into the afternoon ready for the parade, everyone looked great! We hope you all enjoyed taking part in such a fun community event, organised by Waterbeach Community Association. Our stall raised just under £100!

Final Reminders for Feast Day!

Dear All Parents/Carers,

We still require more helpers on our stall this coming Saturday. Please sign up to an hour slot at the WASPS desk if you haven't already done so. We reply on your help to be able to run the stall. Remember, all money raised will go to WASPS.

Thank you to everyone who has offered Feast Day help so far and for hamper and sweet donations (for prizes), it is very much appreciated! We still require a few more hamper items to make them full and appealing, please drop any further donations in to WASPS today (Thurs).

Feast - More help needed please!

Feast day is fast approaching, we have less than 2 weeks now until the big day... Saturday 8th June 2019.

Can you spare an hour? If so, please sign up on our stall rota for Feast Day found on the WASPS desk. There are lots of empty slots and your hands-on help will really be appreciated – you can bring your child/children with you to help too! We really can't do this without the help of parents/carers, remember all money raised on our stall goes directly to WASPS.

Donate to our hampers! We are raffling two hampers on our stall, whilst out and about over half term, please pick up an item to donate...
Ideas for the ‘Music Festival Hamper’: - Alcohol, picnic wear (please avoid single use plastic where possible and choose reusable), picnic blanket, toiletries, glow sticks, solar lights, face paint/decorations… get creative!
Ideas for the ‘Children’s Summer Hamper’: - Arts and craft items, gel pens, stickers, outdoor games, balls, skipping rope, water balloons, bubbles, activity books etc.

We ask that items are new and unused pleased.

Monetary donations towards the hampers are also welcome, if you do not have time to shop for items. All item and donations need to be given in by Tues 4th June please.

Can you provide a bag of ‘Haribo’ treats or lollipops to use as prizes?

Could you help marshal the parade? (You would walk alongside us in the parade wearing a hi-vis jacket and carrying a collection bucket). Please sign up on the stall rota if you can marshal, ideally we need at least one more person to do this.

We don’t expect you to do everything! If everyone could help by doing one of the above, we will have more than enough support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Feast Day, Saturday 8th June 2019, WASPS Stall - Please help!

Feast Day is fast approaching, you have already received a letter about our entry into the Feast Day Parade. Please remember to return your slips as soon as possible, if you and your child/children would like to dress up and join in the parade fun! For costume ideas and any help, please speak to Flor or a member of the team. It’s a great opportunity to take part in a community event and help to promote WASPS.

We will also be holding a stall on the village green, all profits from the stall will go to WASPS directly, we would appreciate help so we can raise as much money as possible to benefit the children at the club. We will be decorating the stall with art made by the children to tie in with the theme they chose, M is for… Music!

On our stall we will be raffling two hampers, a ‘Music Festival Hamper’ & a ‘Children’s Summer Hamper’. We will also have some table-top games, with a small prize every time and ‘hook a duck’.

Dear all WASPS Parents/Carers,

Please help us to spread the word... We are currently recruiting! Playworker and Bank Staff required.
We are looking for enthusiastic people to join our friendly, dedicated team at WASPS. WASPS is an out of school club providing childcare for children age 4-11 years.

WASPS operates a Breakfast Club (7:30-9:00 a.m.) and After School Club (3:00-6:00 p.m.) in term time. We also operate Holiday Club (7:50 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) during the majority of the school holidays.

We are looking for a 'Playworker' to work regular hours at the After School Club in term time and also 'Bank Playworkers' to work as and when needed (mostly p.m. sessions).

A recognised Playwork/Childcare qualification at Level 3 is desirable but not essential - training may be provided.

Free childcare place for their own child (4-11 years) whilst at work subject to availability.

Opportunity of working extra hours at the Holiday Club.

WASPS are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All positions are subject to references and enhanced DBS checks.

WASPS Closed Today

Dear parents and carers,
We have been informed by the School that they will be forced to close today, Monday 21st Jan, due to heating system failure and the need for emergency works to be carried out.
As a result, WASPS will be closed and we will not be able to run the breakfast club and after school club sessions.
We would like to inform parents that they will not be charged for these sessions as it is out of our control.
Please make sure you check your emails for updates. If you do not hear from us, we will open as usual on Tuesday.

We would like to thank you for the kind messages, cards and gifts we received at the end of last term, they were very much appreciated!

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will be fundraising money for WASPS from today until the 19th of December! We are aiming to purchase some new toys and equipment for outdoor use next year, so if you can contribute, it would be awesome!!

Children have been decorating some tiles and porcelain plant pots that we will be selling for £2.50 each. They really enjoyed doing it and are excited about selling them!

We have prepared a grid game with some prizes that include bags of sweets and a Christmas sticker book to keep children entertained during the holiday :)

We will also be selling some cake and cookies during the week!

Any contribution will be welcome!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to those of you that were able to attend our Annual General Meeting on 4th Oct. It was nice to see you! We are pleased to let you know that we have enough people joining the Management Committee to continue... but only just! We have 5 members. It's not too late, we can still co-opt on some more parents/carers to help. There are a number of roles and jobs to be carried out at WASPS throughout the year, from fundraising, to premises related tasks, community events and general decision making relating to personnel matters, activities for the children and how the sessions run. The larger the Management Committee, the smaller the workload for everyone. We ask that all parents/carers consider again whether they would be willing to be co-opted onto the Committee for this year (until next Oct). Please speak to a member of the WASPS Team if you are interested, or if you have any further questions.

AGM and Garden Working Party

Dear Parents/Carers,

** It’s the WASPS AGM this evening, we are looking forward to seeing you all there at 7 p.m. at the Playhouse! **

Garden Working Party This Saturday!

Just a reminder that we are also holding a garden working party session on Saturday morning (6^th Oct), between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Our garden areas are in desperate need of a tidy up after the summer months as we move into Autumn. We would be really grateful if you could spare an hour or two to help us.

Please bring along a broom and any gardening tools you have. If you have any heavier duty garden waste bags or strong bin bags or boxes that could be used to dispose of garden waste, please also bring them along too. In return we will supply hot drinks, biscuits and some fun and cheer!

We would really appreciate it if helpers could take a bag of rubbish home with them to dispose of after the clean up too.

We would prefer it, if this were an adult only tidy project on this occasion please, any children who do attend will need to be supervised by their parent/carer helper. Also, we ask helpers to refrain from parking on the school site where possible (apart from unloading/loading).

Remember, many hands make light work! We are keen to get our outdoor play space looking more attractive for the children of both groups to enjoy in the coming colder months.

Please let us know if you are able to help, so we have a rough idea of numbers.

Dear Parents/Carers

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE RUNNING OF WASPS

The current management committee, who are responsible for the running of WASPS will be standing down at the AGM this coming Thursday, 4^th October and a new committee needs to be elected. So far, three parents/carers have signed up on the nomination grid to join the committee, but we need more members.

We all use WASPS because we are busy working parents. Please do not assume that someone else will do these jobs in order to keep your child/children in childcare. As users of the Club we have a collective responsibility and without sufficient parental support the club will close, since it cannot legally operate without a management committee.

Committee members can be parents/carers or family members of children registered with WASPS, or any person interested in furthering the work of the Club.

The new committee will be elected at the AGM. Even if you don’t want to be elected to the committee, we look forward to sharing what the Club has been doing over the last year and welcoming you all to join us at the AGM on Thursday 4^th October, 7 p.m. in the Playhouse.
