Freshen Up Your Louisville Apartment with this Homemade Mixture

You can make your living space smell like a field of lavender for much less!

Bad odors got you down, but the rising costs of air fresheners are a little too much to bear, especially in these tough economic times? One smart mom over at Fake-It-Frugal has just the cure for you: homemade Febreze, made from ingredients you already have at home! And yes, it really does work!To “freshen up” your apartment living in Louisville, KY, all you’ll need are:

1/8 cup of fabric softener (make sure to pick one that smells great to you!)
2 tablespoons of baking soda
A spray bottle filled with warm tap water

Combine all of these ingredients into the spray bottle…and that’s it! You’re done! Even if you don’t have the ingredients readily available, the grand total cost of this delightful little concoction is a whopping fifteen cents—for a total saving of $5.29 over a 32 ounce bottle of Febreze. (Can you believe they get away with charging that much?)

So spray away, and send those bad odors packing—preferably to somewhere that isn’t our great city of Louisville, KY.

Once the weather heats up, everyone everywhere looks for ideas on how to stay cool. If you’re looking for ways to stay cool, we’ve got some suggestions that you can put to use in your Louisville, KY apartment.

Of course, you can run air conditioners if it gets unbearably hot, but this could cost you a pretty penny in electric bills. Those of you who want to save some cash, could fill a spray water bottle and spritz yourself when you start to feel hot. You could also purchase some room darkening shades which you can close when the sun is too bright. Or better yet, purchase some thermal window drapes as these will keep the sun and heat out in the summer and keep the warm air inside when the place gets cool.

People often purchase table top portable fans and turn them on when the need arises. Making sure your ceiling fan blades are spinning counter clockwise to promote the proper circulation for summer.

Cook meals late at night for the next day, when the air is cooler. In other words, minimize the use of the oven, deep fryer or any other heat-inducing appliance. This will help to keep your apartment in Louisville, KY cool and comfortable.

Louisville to Host National Memorial Day Flags4Vets Vigil

These kinds of flags will be used to create the USA formation.

Now that spring is officially here, it means that there are many great holidays and events right around the corner. Memorial Day is not just about having the day off and spending time at the barbecue, it’s about taking the time to honor our servicemen and women who have fallen while performing their duties to keep the United States the home of the free.

This May, Louisville will be holding a National Memorial Day Vigil in which the Flags4Vets volunteers alongside Louisville residents will form the letters “USA” with 25,000 flags from veterans’ graves. The letters will be 150 feet high and all three letters will be 450 feet wide. These flags honor all of the country’s fallen heroes including heroes from every state of the union, including military, law enforcement and fire fighters.

This vigil will take place at the North Great Lawn at Louisville’s Waterfront Park on Saturday, May 28 starting at 10am. If you’re interested in joining this event, visit theusflag.com.

Are You Ready for the 138th Annual Kentucky Derby?

One of Kentucky’s signature events is less than a month away and we want to know: do you have your tickets? We’re talking, or course, about the 138th Annual Kentucky Derby which is taking place on Saturday, May 5 at Louisville’s own Churchill Downs. We’ve already covered the mint julep tradition at the Derby, and now we want to delve a little further into the events and ticket information.

Taste of the Derby — This event takes place on Thursday, May 3 and is a bona fide classy affair. There will be dishes created by top chefs from across the country, cocktails, and a chance to mix and mingle with fellow derby lovers. The $300 tickets include Red Carpet Entry, Food & Wine Tastings, Premium Open Bar, Complimentary Valet Service, Live Entertainment by Nashville-based Burning Las Vegas, and benefit the Churchill Downs hunger relief foundation.

Dawn at the Downs — Tuesday, May 1 through Thursday, May 3, fans have the opportunity to watch the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby contenders go through their morning workouts while enjoying a Kentucky-style breakfast buffet. Tickets are between $22 and $32 for this event.

General Admission — These tickets ($25-40) include access to the Paddock area, the Gate 10 corridor and the world famous infield. These tickets do not give you a seat or a view of the track but they’re a great (and cheap!) way to experience the derby.

This is Jake( #1105). His examination report says he is 6 years and 7 months old, born 7/1/2005, He is a purebred pug but he has an extra long, furry tail. His tongue hangs out most of the time which is oh so cute! He gets along well with other dogs. He is a great watch dog, but he does NOT bark excessively. He loves to snuggle – very loving dog. Sleeps in the bed with us and our other pug. He is 90% housebroken but needs to be let out frequently while the housebreaking is getting to 100% He loves to go for walks. He does really well with a harness and leash. He can walk at least a mile and then comes in and takes a long nap.He is learning how to sit. Loves a belly rub. Not sure how he would do in a crate as he doesnt use one now but He has not chewed up any furniture, shoes, etc. He has not been around small children here so I cannot say how he would react to them but he has had no behavior problems since coming to his foster home Jake would make a great pet for someone who can spend quality time . Hi, I’m Petey (# 879). The vet estimates me to be around seven to eight years of age, but I’m young at heart! The funny thing about me is that I am blind, but most people wouldn’t know that upon meeting me. I get along great at my foster parents’ house. I know where everything is and I rarely run into anything. My sight gets the best of me when there are loud noises that surprise me and stairs (my foster parents are helping me with this). I get along pretty good with my foster brothers and sisters. Would you believe that I try and rule the roost even though I can’t see? Well, it’s true I do! I haven’t been around cats or kids in a while, so we’re not sure how I’d do with them. My foster mommy seems to think I’d be just fine. I am a cuddler, and love to lick people. I get eye drops twice daily for my dry eye (the cause of my blindness), and the drops are helping my eyes to produce tears again. Now that I am getting the drops, I can actually close my eyes all the way and they feel so much better. I am house trained, but if you don’t let me out when I need to go out…well you know what that means. I can eat dry dog food, in fact I really like it! I sleep really well at night too. Won’t you consider adopting me so that I can cuddle with you at night?
