<itunes:summary>Hosted by POCO contributor Zari Sundiata, Watershed highlights past and present resistance movements, issues affecting women of color, and a host of other radical left topics. A watershed event is an event marking a unique or important historical change of course or one on which important developments depend. This podcast was named as such because we are living in serious times that require hundreds of watershed events to bring self-determination to people of color. Making a space so that the masses know about past and present movements for social change will capture peoples’ imagination and aid in the development of new movements for change.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>On this episode Zari interviews Mr. Kambale Musavuli with Friends of the Congo (FOTC).  The FOTC was established at the behest of Congolese human rights and grassroots institutions in 2004, to work together to bring about peaceful and lasting change in the Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly Zaire.  They have an annual Congo week the third week in October and a Breaking the Silence Tour to educate people about the history and present situation in the Congo.

Kambale is a Congolese activist, student coordinator and spokesperson of Friends of the Congo. He produces weekly podcasts on the situation in the Congo. He has written for the Washington Post, Pambazuka News, The Root and numerous other online publications. He has been interviewed on National Public Radio, Democracy Now, ABC, Al Jazeera, Radio France International and myriad radio and television programs around the world. He has toured the United States speaking to university students, religious groups, community organizers and many others in an effort to mobilize support for the people of the Congo. Musavuli’s ultimate aim is to mobilize the global community to help bring an end to the conflict in the Congo and provide support to the people of the Congo as they strive to control their enormous natural wealth and build lasting peace and stability in the heart of Africa.
