Not only does Stoney Park provide you with the perfect ski site, but we also give you with quality coaching to match. Here are our professional ski instructors:
Heading the coaching team is accomplished three-event skier and former Australian team representative, Jason Stone.
Jason, having spent many years coaching and competing internationally is ready to put his expertise and skills into place here at Stoney Park.
Having been coached by and trained with the best skiers in the world, Jason is up to date with all the latest coaching techniques.
Jason's easygoing nature and relaxed approach bring out the best in every student, from beginners through to the highest level of competitive skier.
Jason is not only is the head coach at Stoney Park, but has vast experience in coaching the Australian Under 21 Waterski team, Australian Junior team members as well as New Zealand Senior and Junior team members.
Jason's recent skiing achievements include scoring 1 buoy on the 10.75 metre line (skiing at 58kph) in the 2010 NSW state titles.

Al Vickers

Al Vickers has now made Stoney Park his permanent home, after many years of commuting between the Princes Club in London and Stoney Park in Australia. He now resides full time at Telegraph Point and will hopefully be with us for many more years to come. This will be Al's fourth year at Stoney Park.
Al is a slalom specialist coach/skier who originally hails from Hamilton, New Zealand. Al has been featured many times this year in the Australian Waterski magazine - even getting the prestigious front cover photo towards the end of last summer.

Bruce Cockburn

The summer of 10/11 will be the third "official" full summer for legendary skier - Bruce Cockburn. Bruce has been coming up on and off for the past few years to Stoney Park to participate in coaching clinics and tournaments, but now spends half his year coaching at Stoney Park , and the other half generally travelling the world, coaching and judging at World championships and elite tournaments.
Where do we start with Bruces skiing achievements and background? He started skiing competitively at the age of 12 years old . He won 7 uner 16 Australian titles and 26 Open mens titles! He has representated Australia 6 times and various world titles from 1967 - 1977. He won the world trick title in 1969 and came second in tricks in 1973. He came second in the world jump title in 1975. Bruce retired from elite competition in 1979 but since then has still remained very active in competition. He Has won numerous over 35 Australian titles and is stil the current holder of the over 35 mens slalom record (3.5 buoys on the 10.75 metre line).
Bruce's passion for many years has not only been the skiing itself, but also the coaching. He has coached many Australian skiers who have gone on to represent the country at world and regional championships. Some of the more recent skiers include: Mitchell Cockburn, Elise Cockburn, Chris Cockburn, Dane Puxty, Michale Briant, Karina Nowlan, Tim Bradstreet and Alyce Bradstreet. Bruce is also now an IWSF Hall of fame member.

Chris Wharton

Chris is an up and coming junior English skiier, who will be here for the 2nd time for the summer of 10/11. Chris has represented Great Britain in 4 European Junior Championships (2006-2009). Chris will be returning to Stoney Park after competing in the Junior World Championships, which are being held in Italy in 2010.

Jacinta Carroll

Australian Junior champion skier, Jacinta (rabbit or bunny as she is fondly known) Carroll is making Stoney Park her home for most of the 2010/2011 summer. Jacintas first year coaching at Stoney Park was last summer and she was a fantastic hit with skiers of all ages. Jacinta has trained at Stoney Park under the watchful eye of Jason Stone, since she was 10 years old. Jacintas skiing accomplisments are now greater than her height! She is the Australian open womens jump champion (2 years in a row), she was the silver jump meddalist at the 2009 Junior World championships (which were held in Mexico, january 2009) and more recently, was the winner of the jump division in the Junior US Masters. She is an accomplished 3 event skier and a future world champion. We are proud to have had so much to do with her skiing in the past 7 years and to now be able to bring her onboard as part of our team.

Australia’s finest Hayley Smith worked with wakeboard coach Mike Ferraro, who arguably knows more about fluid dynamics than anybody out on the dock. They worked on a new shape for varying abilities, and styles to determine the universal characteristics a rider needs and blended them into one shape. The result was this new Smooth Flex constructed shape, which is being referred to as the best board he has created to date. This board has a 3-stage lift in the center, with a continuous outer rail. A rider can still get that explosive more vertical lift, but the faster outer rails push the board into the rider. You feel the speed of continuous and the float of 3-stage. If a rider comes in with a lot of angle, the board is reacting more to the outer continuous profile - feeling the added speed, coming in and flatting the board out as they hit the wake - the 3-stage kicks in. This is a series you don’t have to really stand on to create a progressive cut from the sharp/hard edge on the tip/tail of the board, outside of the stance. The rounder radius bevel in the center of the board, inside of the stance, creates forgiveness. A legendary new all purpose shape from smooth/low maintenance carves, to wide open high speed cuts behind the boat, versatility on the cable for air tricks and our super wide stance option for extra board control at the cable.

Introducing the X7 Pearl a brand new D3 ski for 2011. The X5 Rose was such a huge success we decided to give female skiers looking for the “X5 Rose feel” a new ride to take their skiing to the next level. If you have tried the new breed of faster skis and just cant find the stability and predictability you are seeking the new X7 Pearl is the “answer”.

We started by recreating the deep riding, larger, bevels from the X5 Rose. These bevels were then married with the rocker pattern of the Z7 ST Diamond. The X7 Pearl is a bit wider than it’s predecessor the X5 Rose. This gives the X7 Pearl improved speed and glide out to the turns. The additional width has resulted in a very level ride. The added width in the tail supports the skier and keeps the ski from riding tip high. The additional width in the fore-body keeps the tip supported during the turn thus allowing the skier to maximize the load to the front of the ski generating more angle as the ski approaches the wake. Women skiers tend to carry their center of gravity lower and further back when compared to their male counterparts. With this difference in mind we also adjusted the flat spot of the X7 Pearl to allow female/lightweight skiers to naturally stand directly over the skis fulcrum point.

With a softer flex than the X7 the X7 Pearl is designed for the lighter weight skier looking for the ultimate in stability and performance without sacrificing control.

2011 HO Coefficient X SL Slalom skis

Coefficient X -- eXperimentation with reducing skis’ Coefficient of Drag

The single largest difference between the skis of the future and the skis of ten years ago is the amount of physical effort required by the skier to ride them. As water skiing evolves from a fight between boat and equipment to an efficient harmony between man and machine, so must the equipment. The Coefficient X introduces the first major departure from the traditional concave bottom ski of the last 70 years; Step Concave Technology. When a traditional ski moves through the water it drags along with it a layer of water molecules that stick to the bottom of the ski. In the science world, it is known as boundary layer theory. The Step Concave introduces a very small amount of turbulence into the concave, which interrupts the boundary layer, freeing the water molecules and thereby allowing the ski to move through the water with a decreased Coefficient of Drag. The result is a more efficient ski shape that minimizes the amount of physical effort required by the skier so he or she can enjoy longer more efficient ski rides.

The Coefficient X also employs a 7% smaller bevel than the Syndicate A1. This helps to lift the ski out of the water for reduced drag and permits the proper amount of on water slide skiers need to dictate when, where and how aggressively they turn.

The Coefficient X achieves its unparallel stability by utilizing a significantly deeper concave, pintail geometry and 5-Stage rocker line. Each of these design elements holds the ski to the water surface, so the step concave and smaller bevel design can dictate the line between carve and slide for the ultimate slalom course of free skiing line.

The Syndicate Team was so intrigued by the Coefficient X design, HO decided to offer it in two different constructions. The SuperLite (SL) utilizes the polyvinylchloride foam core technology of the Syndicate Program skis and 90/10 Carbon/Fiberglass construction for the most advanced core technology available with just a touch of dampening. The standard Coefficient X is built out of the exact same molds as the SL, but has a more traditional 50/50 carbon/fiberglass construction and a polyurethane core. Each ski is handmade in the HO Factory, Redmond, WA.

The brand new HO Syndicate A2 slalom ski is an evolution of HO Sports’ highly successful A1, which was one of the best selling skis at Performance Ski and Surf this past season! The biggest difference between the two slalom skis is the A2’s new variable concave bottom. At the bindings, the concave of the A2 is the same as that of the A1, so the A2 has all the grip and edge power of the A1. But the A2 features a shallower concave at the tip and tail, giving it additional lift and speed. Designer Bob LaPoint also added more rocker in the tail, giving the A2 a quicker onside turn. The Syndicate A2 features HO Sports’ premier construction, including an incredibly lightweight PVC core and 100-percent carbon fiber reinforcements.

Variable Concave Design: 3 Concave Radii in 1 ski; Larger concave radius in the tail of the ski results in the fastest tail section of any on the market. Traditional A1 concave radius under the feet produces the unmatched stability and the high edge angle the A1 is famous for. Larger concave radius fore of the ski's wide point creates the safest tip in the industry. The A2 won't stop moving as the skier moves forward through the turn into the wakes.
5-Stage Rocker Line: Dual flat spots and extremely progressive tip rocker stage. Flat spot #1 equals speed off the buoy. Flat spot #2 equals the stable platform the skier balances on back to the wakes. The progressive top rocker mimics an extra long flat spot for stability, but a continuous rocker for pre-turn rotation.
Fat Tail Geometry: By reducing the overall taper in the ski, HO created a wider tail profile than traditional design.

Bob LaPoint and the Syndicate Team have refined the very successful Syndicate A1 shape specifically for speed. The result is the Syndicate S1. Designed specifically for the speed, turn support and line you’ve been dreaming of.

Analysis of the tournament market has determined two unique skier styles and resulting skier tastes in slalom skis. Some skiers prefer skis that ride deeper in the water, have a tip down attitude and more of a “carving” turn shape. While other skiers choose skis the that ride higher in the water, require less physical exertion and have quicker more “skidded” turn shapes.

The S1 design produces its specific type of on-water attitude by employing a 32mph to 34mph specific hybrid concave design. By utilizing a 5.75% smaller bevel, narrower traction rail width and a 17% shallower concave depth, the S1 delivers a faster, lower drag, quicker, more “skidded” turn shape, all without sacrificing the stability and predictability the A1 has become famous for.

The S1 also introduces a completely new speed shape profile. Unlike competitor’s skis which radically increase the surface area of the ski under the boots, the S1 incorporates a traditional A1 width profile under the boot region. This allows the ski to stay down and cut through the boat wakes as opposed to bouncing or drastically jumping onto the turning edge through the edge change. Fore and aft of the boot region, the S1 maintains more of its maximum width. This concentrate of additional surface area fore and aft of the boot region not only provides the lift needed for increased speed and reduced drag, but also provides a balanced amount of additional support to the skier at the finish of the turn.

The final component is the speed specific 5-stage rocker line. Building upon the strength of the A1’s industry first 5-stage rocker line, employing dual flat spot technology for increased speed and stability, the S1 rocker line is faster and smoother, providing the most efficient ride in the industry.

Hybrid Concave Design: Small rails to each side of the concave from the heel of the front foot forward. This allows the S1 to progressively build, and most importantly, maintain incredible angle off the 2nd wake propelling the skier onto a wide and early line. Behind the skier's front foot heel the S1 transforms into edge to edge concave design. Allows the ski to roll up on a higher edge angle and pulls the forebody of the ski into the water for maximum angle creation and maintenance.

Introducing the X7, a brand new D3 ski for 2011. The X5 was such a huge success we decided to give skiers looking for the “X5 feel” a new ride to take their skiing to the next level. If you have tried the new breed of faster skis and just cant find the stability and predictability you are seeking the new X7 is the “answer”.

We started by recreating the deep riding, larger, bevels from the X5. These bevels were then married with the rocker pattern of the Z7 ST. The X7 is a bit wider than it’s predecessor the X5. This gives the X7 improved speed and glide out to the turns. The additional width has resulted in a very level ride. The added width in the tail supports the skier and keeps the ski from riding tip high. The additional width in the fore-body keeps the tip supported during the turn thus allowing the skier to maximize the load to the front of the ski generating more angle as the ski approaches the wake. The X7 is designed for the skier looking for the ultimate in stability and performance without sacrificing control.

JB: Pretty simple: This ski turns really well on my offside. Most people can kill their onside turns, and with the Connelly Prophecy you can have your offside on lock as well. Also, it holds angle off the wake better than anything I’ve ever skied on.

WS: How does the Connelly Prophecy slalom water ski accommodate your particular style/method ?

TW: Total symmetry. My DS Z7st feels exactly the same across both sides of the course. It eliminates the stress of onside versus offside; and a balanced, symmetrical line on both sides of the course is every skier’s goal.
